New RONNIE JAMES DIO Covers Album “This Is Your Life” Celebrates the Life and Legacy of a Legend

Available April 1, 2014 via Rhino

This Is Your Life Pays Tribute To The Late Singer With Covers Of

His Greatest Songs From Rainbow, Black Sabbath, And Dio

Features Newly Recorded Tracks From Anthrax, Halestorm, Rob Halford, Metallica, Motörhead, Scorpions, Corey Taylor, And Tenacious D, Among Others

To Benefit The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund

Ronnie James Dio is one of the most beloved figures in rock history. His gifts, both as a singer and songwriter, are instantly recognizable, whether he was with RainbowBlack SabbathHeaven & Hell, or leading Dio. Sadly, Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer in 2010, but his towering voice and legacy live on.

To celebrate one of rock’s most powerful voices, an all-star group of his friends and fans recorded 13 of their favorite tracks for a tribute album that will raise funds for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund (diocancerfund.org). Produced by his longtime manager and wife Wendy Dio, the album includes contributions by such metal heavyweights as MetallicaMotörheadScorpionsAnthrax, andRob Halford, as well as appearances by many of the musicians who performed with Dio over the years.

This Is Your Life will be available from Rhino on April 1, 2014 for a suggested list price of $18.98. A digital version will also be available.

Although the songs featured on the album touch on the different eras of Dio’s career, several spotlight his time with Rainbow, including Metallica’s epic, nine-minute “Ronnie Rising Medley,” which combines theRainbow songs “A Light In The Black,” “Tarot Woman,” “Stargazer,” and “Kill The King.” Scorpions add a scorching take on “The Temple Of The King” while Motörhead is joined by Biff Byford from Saxon on “Starstruck.” Rob Halford teams with frequent Dio collaborators Vinny Appice, Doug Aldrich, Jeff Pilson, and Scott Warren for “The Man On The Silver Mountain.” The final line-up of Dio’s solo band – Simon Wright, Craig Goldy, Rudy Sarzo and Scott Warren – are joined by Glenn Hughes (Deep PurpleBlack Sabbath) for “Catch The Rainbow,” a track from Rainbow’s 1975 debut.

Anthrax and Adrenaline Mob honor Dio’s memorable stint with Black Sabbath with their takes on “Neon Knights” and “The Mob Rules” respectively, as does a group, led by Oni Logan on vocals along with Jimmy Bain, Rowan Robertson, and Brian Tichy, which performs “I” from Dehumanizer.

This Is Your Life also includes songs from Dio’s back-to-back platinum albums Holy Diver (1983) and The Last In Line (1984), with Doro’s take on “Egypt (The Chains Are On)”, Halestorm tackling “Straight Through The Heart,” Corey Taylor (Stone SourSlipknot) covering the classic “Rainbow In The Dark” andTenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Glass) putting their signature spin on “The Last In Line.” Killswitch Engage’s cover of “Holy Diver,” a hit in its own right when released in 2006, is also included here.

Fittingly, Ronnie James Dio provides the finale (and the album’s title) with his moving performance of “This Is Your Life.” Originally released on Angry Machines (1996), the song’s lyrics explore mortality and are backed by a stark and beautiful arrangement that features Dio accompanied only by his longtime keyboardist Scott Warren on piano. The song serves as a poignant reminder that we will never hear a voice like Dio’s again.

The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, co-founded by Wendy Dio, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable fund dedicated to supporting cancer-prevention research, raising awareness and educating the public about the vital importance of early detection and prevention when dealing with this deadly disease.

Motorhead Cancel European Tour/Another Setback for Lemmy

Looks like Lemmy’s health (diabetes related issues) has unfortunately gotten the best of him again, forcing the band to cancel their scheduled European Tour for 2014.  According to their  official website:

“It is with great regret that Motörhead has to announce the cancellation of their European tour, scheduled to start February, 2014.

Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon, Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel.

No-one is hurting more over this than Lemmy, and he feels the aggravation and inconvenience of every ticket, and every method of transportation, already paid for by loyal fans in anticipation of the tour. Being a road warrior of over 50 dedicated, non-stop years, it is equally distressing for him to be unable to occupy the top lounge of the trusty tour bus (his spiritual home) but Lemmy recognizes that his long-term health must win. It goes without saying that Lemmy profusely apologizes for inconveniences caused, but he does want everyone to know that he is continuing on the road to a full recovery, and that the prognosis long-term is very good.

Fans have shown tremendous support for Lemmy, and it has meant so much to him. As he told Rolling Stone, “Oh, man, the fans were unbelievable when I got sick,” he says. “No bitching. It was all ‘Take your time, get better. Don’t worry, we’ll wait for you. Get well.’”

Rome was not built in a day…like Lemmy’s health. But there is some strong light at the end of the tunnel here…we thank you so very much for your continued love, support and understanding.”

We here at Pittsburgh Music Magazine can only say get well Lemmy, take your time and get yourself better.  We love you man!!!

Motorhead’s “Aftershock” Is Not So Shockingly Amazing

It’s hard to believe that this is MOTÖRHEAD‘s 21st album in some ways and in other ways in seems just right.  Just when people thought Lemmy Kilmister might be down for the count due to illness, he and Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee come out with an effort that will blow your socks off and meet your every expectation.  That is high praise in this day and age for a band that has been around through it all, but fresh blood seems to have been flushed through the veins of Lemmy and company..

“Heartbreaker” starts off with typical MOTÖRHEAD sound, hard and heavy with crushing forward rhythms.  “Monsters at the edge of time
Waiting ‘til we cross the line, All the find is black despair, Heartbreaker,” the lyrics are reminiscent of AC/DC in their prime but cranked up to eleven a la Spinal Tap.  This just bleeds directly into “Coup De Grace” which sounds like a Coda of sorts and blisters on, but the pace slows slightly as they pull into “Lost Woman Blues”.  This is Lemmy playing homage to classic blues and it works beautifully,”I gotta shut the door behind me, Go out n’ buy some highway shoes, ‘Cus I swear I’m sick and tired, Singing the easiest going blues,” he works it only as Lemmy can.

From their the boys smack you hard by picking up the rock with “End of Time” which is a pretty faced pace roller with some awesome riffs, “Do You Believe” which once again relies on classic rock n roll chord progressions, “Death Machine” that retains a true MOTÖRHEAD fuzz tone that will have your head banging quick and will more than likely end up on a movie soundtrack.  “Dust and Glass” once again slows the pace down where we gain the philosophical truths of Kilmister, “Hard times, dirt and lies, Born in pain, End in grief, Remember this and die” that ends rather abruptly but to a rather poignant effect.

“Going to Mexico” is great fun in pace and chorus, “Silence When You Speak to Me” and “Crying Shame” are fair tunes, but “Queen of the Damned” definitely stands out more of the last half of the album as a true MOTÖRHEAD rocker with that signature sound attached to it…the awesome bass chords only Lemmy can produce and chopping guitar.  “Knife”, “Keep Your Powder Dry” and “Paralyzed” round out the new release and have some very strong influences that can be heard and felt from top to bottom, but come out only the way that MOTÖRHEAD makes them sound and feel.

Overall this is an A+ effort for the band and an outstanding collection of new songs that they should be beaming about.  “It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong MOTÖRHEADalbum, one that really does define everything this band stands for.” True that Mikkey Dee.

MOTÖRHEAD to Release New Album “Aftershock” in North America on October 22, 2013

Silence, silence
Silence when you speak to me!

-Lemmy Kilmister

Like the juggernaut you prayed would keep on crushing you, like the friend that still royally pisses off your parents and like a loyal standard of crunchy, greasy, punky, bluesy, gutsy screw-you rock’n’roll, MOTÖRHEAD stride out through their 38th year brandishing more swagger and attitude then your ears could begin to comprehend.

On October 22, 2013, MOTÖRHEAD will deliver their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything MOTÖRHEAD stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see MOTÖRHEAD in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that MOTÖRHEAD is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

That genre, more than ever, resonates with hearty independence and swashbuckle. “Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, who’s pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”
“It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong MOTÖRHEAD album, one that really does define everything this band stands for.”
He’s not wrong. Because MOTÖRHEAD are MOTÖRHEAD are MOTÖRHEAD…and their Aftershock will be felt worldwide…

MICHAEL MONROE: Iconic Rock ‘N’ Roll Frontman Releases New Studio Album, ‘Horns and Halos’

image001 (2)

In 2010, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and uber-energetic front-man and all-round rock ‘n’ roll legend MICHAEL MONROE unveiled his new side project in grand style via an exclusive press conference. Flash forward six months to a full UK tour with Motörhead, and another few months to the release of Another Night in the Sun, a globally-anticipated live album that teased fans clamoring for a final, polished taste of the new project. Finally, roughly a year after MICHAEL MONROE ’s original public reveal, the band released their first critically-acclaimed full-length release, Sensory Overdrive, produced by Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon). The album went on to win Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Album Of The Year’ award and landed at #1 on the charts in MM’s Finnish homeland.

In 2012, after touring throughout the UK in support of Sensory Overdrive, Monroe announced that he would go back into seclusion to prepare for the band’s next offering. Monroe’s touring and recording outfit, comprised of bassist Sami Yaffa (ex-Hanoi Rocks/New York Dolls), guitarist Steve Conte (ex-New York Dolls/Company Of Wolves), guitarist Dregen (Backyard Babies, formerly ofHellacopters fame) and drummer Karl ‘Rockfist’ Rosqvist (ex-Chelsea Smiles/Danzig), worked tirelessly in the studio, providing creative support for a frontman whose reputation is genuinely global and whose influence continues to be felt, with musicians of all ages (from Dave Grohl to the original Gun n’ Roses members) citing Michael’s ground-breaking career as a source of inspiration.

Now after several months, the wait is over.  MICHAEL MONROE can finally reveal that the band’supcoming studio album, Horns and Halos, will hit stores everywhere on August 27, 2013 via Spinefarm Records. The band offers a taste of the new album in the form of a new single and videofor the track ‘Ballad Of The Lower East Side’, which can be watched now via YouTube at this location.

The track includes a nod to Michael’s early days in New York, a city he moved to for a decade following the mid-’80s break up of glam punk pioneers, Hanoi Rocks. The clip – directed by celebrated videographer/photographer Ville Juurikkala, who has photographed Michael for the past 10 years as well as working with Linkin ParkGood Charlotte and HIM, amongst others – features archive footage and photos of Michael in prime Big Apple mode, interlaced with current live and backstage scenes.

“The song ‘Ballad Of The Lower East Side’ is about New York and especially The Lower East Side – what it was way back in the days when I lived  there, how times have changed and how it is nowadays.,” states MICHAEL MONROE. “New York has always been an important city to me since I lived there for 10 years. Two members of our band still live there.  It’s the City of all Cities.”

Stay tuned for more information coming soon about Horns and Halos. To stay up to date on all things MICHAEL MONROE, visit www.michaelmonroe.com or www.facebook.com/michaelmonroeofficial.

BOMBUS signs with Century Media Records

Century Media Records is very pleased to welcome Sweden-based metal outfit BOMBUS to the family.
337

BOMBUS was started in late 2008 in Gothenburg by axe men Feffe and Matte as a two-piece, but then they quickly emerged to a full band with Ulf (bass) and Peter (drums) joining the party.  Heavily influenced by the greats of MOTORHEAD, THE MELVINS, METALLICA and POISON IDEA, the newly arisen four-piece started to play their first live shows and evolve their own unique sound.  After releasing three 7″ singles and their praised self-titled debut album in 2010, the band matured greatly by performing many live shows throughout Europe, which earned them a massive die-hard fan base. Recently, a new bassist, Jonas, joined the band, which allowed Ulf to step back from his duties onstage to focus on the band’s artwork and video clips. In the summer of 2011, Century Media Records discovered BOMBUS, and a deal was quickly signed. To start off this new relationship, BOMBUS will release a special single, as well as a full-length album, later this year via Century Media Records.

The band comments on the new partnership: “BOMBUS are proud to announce that we are teaming up with Century Media Records for the release of our upcoming album ‘The Poet And The Parrot’. Century Media has always been a prominent label with a high quality roster, and we are happy as pigs in shit to now be a part of it.”

BOMBUS recently finished work on their new album, The Poet And The Parrot, which is tentatively set for an August 2013 release. The incredible new album track, “Apparatus,” will be released earlier on a limited 7″ single and as a digital download. This single will be available from May 2nd on, right at the start of the band’s European DANKO JONES tour. See below for all upcoming dates.

Swedish Rockers MUSTACH to Release Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven February 26th

It’s quite impressive what MUSTACH has achieved: seven albums, a huge hit with “Double Nature”, sold-out tours of Scandinavia, opening- and headline tours with Motörhead, Gluecifer and cult-band Rose Tattoo in Europe as well as three Swedish Grammy Nominations and a Grammy Award for “Metal Album of the Year” in 2008.

After all this, the band reached a turning point. It would be full speed ahead focusing on the band or nothing at all. No half-hearted solutions, no compromises. All or nothing!

“That’s the way I work as a person, Ralf Gyllenhammar (guitarist/vocalist) explains over a cup of coffee a Tuesday morning in Stockholm. Drunk or sober, angry or happy, all or nothing, there are no in-betweens in my world.”

This time Ralf Gyllenhammar sat firmly in the producer´s chair, Martin Westerstrand did the artwork and Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein, Paradise Lost, Within Temptation) mixed the tracks.

Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven already has gold achieved gold status in Sweden. With the new drummer, Jejo Perkovid, MUSTACH bring their straight forward Heavy Rock to the rest of the world! In addition the 2011 10th anniversary album The New Sound of the True Best is released by Metalville Records at the same time.

Look for our review coming shortly!

New MELDRUM Single ”Paid” Available on iTunes Now

MELDRUM’S latest single, ”PAID” is available now on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/paid-single/id564528537). ”PAID” is the third single to be released from MELDRUM’s long awaited third album ”LIFER” due out this fall via REVERSED RECORDS. ”PAID” is a tongue in cheek poke at the music industry and the one hit wonders that think they have it made. MELDRUM vocalist Michele Madden has this to say about the single ”A warning to the wanna be’s not to mix their ambition with their blinding lack of ability…just sayin”.

MELDRUM’s first two singles ”A TOAST TO ROMANCE” and ”BLACKENED BLUE” are out now on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/a-toast-to-romance-single/id549289572). The album was produced by producer/engineer ROB SHALLCROSS (Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Zimmers Hole, West of Hell) and GENE HOGLAN (Testament, Dethklok, Death, Dark Angel). Check out MELDRUM online at http://www.facebook.com/MeldrumOfficial

”PAID” is streaming now at: http://soundcloud.com/meldrummusic/03-paid MICHELLE MELDRUM passed away at the age of 39 in May 2008. “LIFER” stands as a proud tribute to MICHELLE and her lifetime commitment to creating and performing music. MICHELLE wrote the material for the album with drummer GENE HOGLAN (Testament, Death, Dark Angel, Dethklok), along with new members bassist/guitarist LAURA CHRISTINE (Warface) and vocalist MICHELE MADDEN (Tourette’s).

MICHELLE’S untimely demise before any of her guitar tracks for “Lifer” were able to be laid down led the three remaining members to come together in tribute to her, to honour Michelle’s vision of the album, with Laura Christine playing the majority of the rhythm and bass guitars, as well as all the leads. Partial proceeds from the album will go to MICHELLE’S son Jake Thomas who she left behind when she passed.

MELDRUM has toured worldwide with Lemmy Kilmister’s Motorhead, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, Sepultura, Danzig, Nashville Pussy, as well as sharing the stage with many more. Touting a combination of mammoth vocal styles along with aggressively melodic vocals, mind bending guitar riffs and a rhythm section that creates fiercely bombastic grooves, this is what gives MELDRUM their unique, cutting edge sound.

SCELERATA to Release The Sniper November 6th

The Sniper the new release from SCELERATA will undoubtedly turn heads, forcing metal icons to watch their rearview mirrors as these guys pull up fast with the nitrous afterburners firing! Testosterone infused, melodic power metal best describes their music, though there are also many moments showing a progressive edge and showcasing immense vocal talent.

The Sniper presents a stunning vocal performance from Fabio Juan, showing a much more matured band that delivers a heavier more aggressive sound, beautifully mixing power metal and melodic progressive elements ranging from angst ridden lyrics of corruption to sorrowful love lost. The huge and intricate production makes this album a must hear for any true metal fan.

The Sniper was produced, mixed and mastered by Charlie Bauerfeind with guitarist Renato Osorio. The album also features Andi Deris (Helloween) and Paul Di’Anno (ex-Iron Maiden) as very special guests, who not only sing but helped compose and co-write the songs.

SCELERATA got their start with their debut Darkness & Light which was released in 2006. It was mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward and featured guest appearances by Renato Borghetti (Accordeon), Edu Falaschi (Angra) and Thiago Bianchi (Shaman).

The band followed up with their sophomore release Skeletons Domination in 2008. This effort was mixed and mastered by Charlie Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind Guardian, Rage, Saxon, Halford, Hammerfall, Motorhead).

Performing with giant names in rock and metal over the last decade, the band is looking forward to hitting the road soon on their own headlining tours.

The Treatment’s This Might Hurt Proves You Will Enjoy A Little Pain

When your head starts bobbing up and down and your arms are air drumming from the very first notes, that is always a good sign. That is how it was when PMM played The Treatment‘s opening track “The Departed” from their debut This Might Hurt. For fans of heavy rock with all the beautiful basics harkening back to when bands let the music do the talking; this band is for you. The Treatment is tight, fast, and unforgiving in their pursuit to “simply rock”.
The Treatment is a five-year old outfit out of Cambridge UK. Sighting early influences of UFO, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses Aerosmith, and Thin Lizzy they certainly stay true to their roots. The Treatment are “unashamedly inspired by an era when rock bands looked like rock bands and were generally intent on causing a stir (both onstage and off); an era when the lifestyle was important, when music was everything and vinyl was king”.
This Might Hurt was produced by Laurie Mansworth (guitarist/songwriter with UK melodic rockers Airrace) and mixed by Tony Newton at Iron Maiden guitarist Steve Harris’ Barnyard Studios, and the their fine tuned choices show with the material that has that perfect mix of raw with some polish added in for good measure. Check out highlight tunes, The Departed, Shake The Mountain, Drink, F**k, Fight, Road Rocket, and Just Tell Me Why (acoustic). This Might Hurt is a well crafted record with all the trappings of good time arena rock that has a place in all of our hearts and it showcases an extremely talented group of musicians. Fortunately for the band and audiences, apparently Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx got a good taste of what The Treatment had to offer when he saw the video for the sure to be concert anthem ‘Drink, F**k, Fight’ single. Thus The Treatment has been on the road opening for Motley Crue and Kiss keeping up with the tradition of Nikki being on the forefront of up and coming bands and bringing them out on tour.

Since 2008, when 15-‐year-‐old schoolboy drummer Dhani Mansworth (son of Laurie) decided to put a band together, inspired by the all-‐time greats of the genre (AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and working under the wing of his father and manager Laurie (More, Airrace, Roadstar), the search was on to find fellow rock-‐headed, leather-‐ wrapped musicians old an’ wise beyond their years. Unable to source players of the required standard, however, this search was soon extended to more far-‐flung parts of the country, and bit by bit the line-‐up began to take shape. First to join was lead guitarist Ben Brookland, then bassist Rick Newman (aka Swoggle), then rhythm guitarist Tagore Grey… but it was the crucial position of front-‐man that proved the hardest to fill, and it was a full six months before vocalist Matt Jones was (finally) discovered in Norwich (UK).

The Treatment now formed they focused on intense practise and writing sessions, but rather than go the conventional route of booking rehearsal studios then travelling back and forth, the five decided that to get the very best out of themselves they would need to focus 100 per cent on the mighty task at hand; with school days now behind them (but only just), they opted to move into the Mansworth family home in Cambridge, where they could eat, sleep and breathe the music they loved around the clock, without distractions, without compromise.
12 months later, The Treatment – a fully-‐rounded, finely-‐honed rock‘n’roll machine with a battery of great songs at its fingertips – emerged blinking into the sunlight, guitars at the ready, sights set on the stars.
With a run of European special guest appearances now complete (playing with the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, Steel Panther, Motorhead and more) and European festival performances being ticked off at a rapid rate (Sonisphere, High Voltage, Hard Rock Hell, Download, etc.), the band are now ready to take things to the next level, setting their sights on the American market.
Lucky for Pittsburgh on September 2 (and all the dates with Crue and Kiss) we will be able to witness them first hand as they give us the treatment it might hurt but we’re pretty sure you’ll like it.

Rockstar Mayhem Festival Teaser…A Cleveland Pictorial! Coming to Pittsburgh 7/28!

Get ready for “The Hardest Tour On Earth” and to be blown away. The amount of talent at this year’s Mayhem is unprecedented. The ear crushing and body bruising of hearing Motorhead, Slayer, and Slipknot back to back to back is so intense that it will leave your metal soul not only elated but drained from the sheer experience of it all. Pittsburgh Music Magazine had a chance to speak with many of the performers; Mayhem has great access for all fans including many signings from the likes of Kerry King and Slipknot. Check out the merchandise booths too. Metal Blade Records has some great stuff along with a free sampler CD, Sumerian Records as well. Also some great deals at many of the bands booths on autographed items (We thought the new Anthrax CD signed by the entire band for $10 a steal!). We have some interviews, that will be posted shortly, with Whitechapel, The Devil Wears Prada, and As I Lay Dying. Get ready to rock out with your black and gold out Saturday Pittsburgh! So, to whet your appetites we have included some pix from the Cleveland show to get your metal hearts pumped

Megadeth and Zombie Will Continue Co-Headlining Tour

Megadeth and Rob Zombie rocked Stage AE in Pittsburgh last week and will continue to do so throughout the U.S. and Europe. MPAPPHOTO was there to capture the pure energy of the show and has joined Pittsburgh Music Magazine as a collaborator.

Metal icons MEGADETH are delivering volcanic performances and earning rave reviews on their co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie, which marks the first time the two bands have toured together. The trek kicked off Friday, May 11 in Holmdel, NJ and will include two high-profile rock festival appearances including Rock On The Range and Rocklahoma, where the tour wraps on Saturday, May 26. A list of confirmed dates is below. For additional information on purchasing tickets, visit www.megadeth.com.

Prior to the show, the New York Times proclaimed that “the speed pioneers Megadeth have the decibels to fill the grandiose PNC” and the New York Daily News said, “At last year’s faceoff with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, the band led by Dave Mustaine offered a set that did both their sub-genre and legacy proud (5/10/12).”

In a review of the first show, Tris McCall of the Newark, NJ Star-Ledger said, “While most of the band’s peers have either slowed down, broken up or switched to a more profitable style, Megadeth presses on, hard and fast as ever. Mustaine is a study in perseverance–and professionalism, too: He recently had to re-learn how to play guitar after suffering nerve damage in his arm. That trauma has left no mark on him–his solos, sometimes taken in harmony with sideman Chris Broderick, are as dextrous, and rapid-fire, as ever (5/13/12).” Theexaminer.com added, “The musicians ripped and shredded their way through riffs and solos with machine-like precision, yet somehow projecting an earnest passion through the notes that speaks to the raw emotion of Mustaine’s songwriting (5/13/12).”

After their tour with ROB ZOMBIE wraps at Rocklahoma, MEGADETH–singer/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE, bassist DAVID ELLEFSON, drummer SHAWN DROVER and guitarist CHRIS BRODERICK–will head to Europe for shows in Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, England, Luxembourg, Netherlands, France, Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium, Russia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland, then in September will head to South America for concerts in Chile, Argentina and Mexico.

A newly released video for the group’s next single “Whose Life (Is It Anyway?)” can be seen now.. The video is a heavy metal tour de force, depicting youth angst turned violent, resulting in an apocalyptic finale.

The current tour comes on the heels of MEGADETH’s critically acclaimed return of the traveling festival GIGANTOUR, created and curated by frontman DAVE MUSTAINE. Rave reviews poured in for the festival, which also featured MOTÖRHEAD, VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL. “The return of Gigantour, a nicely curated package tour of heavy metal bands, is just one more step in a great run underway by Megadeth,” wrote the Boston Globe. “It was a smart and well-paced show, one that illuminated metal’s various angles (1/31/12).”

2011 marked the release of MEGADETH’s 13th album, the appropriately titled Th1rt3en. Released November 1 on Roadrunner Records, the album debuted at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. The album also landed on international charts including Top 10 placements in Argentina, Finland, Korea and Japan. MEGADETH also received their tenth Grammy nomination for this project, earning a “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” nomination for their single “Public Enemy #1.” The “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” category was, eerily, category #13.
