INDIAN: Chicago Blackened Doom Bringers Unleash Scathing New Video For “Rhetoric Of No”

Today Metal Injection, in cooperation with blackened doom bringers, INDIAN, premiere a brand new visual atrocity in the form of “Rhetoric Of No.”

The menacing six-plus-minute demonstration of deviance comes courtesy of INDIAN‘s newly-releasedFrom All Purity full-length. A corrosive audio collage where tar-black doom unites with expansive waves of noise to create a near smothering sensation of revulsion, suffering, and imminent degeneration, the six-track From All Purity, which debuted at #24 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, is the true sound of the earth dying.

Recorded at Electrical Audio and Soma Studios in Chicago with engineer/co-producer Sanford Parker (Minsk, Yob, Samothrace), From All Purity has reaped the love of fans and media globally. In an 8.2/10 score, Pitchfork calls the record, “commanding and well-crafted,” adding that “this is the strongest they’ve ever sounded,” Hit The Floor names it, “the most vicious and scathing pieces of bleak recorded hatred you will hear all year,” Metal Insider points out that, “it’s almost as if INDIAN aren’t playing their instruments so much as abusing them and we are allowed to witness this display of musical debauchery like some sickening peep show,” while MetalSucks commends the record’s “gnarled brilliance” furthering that, “it’s just so fucking ugly and unpleasant that, unless you’re in the mood to go looking for diamonds in the vomit-encrusted rough, it can sound like an endless, sickly death march….INDIAN know that doom’s slowness can be used to stretch out one’s concept of time to submerge whoever’s listening into something truly vicious.” Lambgoat agrees, “With their fifth full-length, INDIANbuilds upon a key fact that should define their music: beauty through dissonance… It’s noisy, unpleasant, and vicious in its sludge/doom attack; all qualities that make From All Purity a strong release.” Adds Metal Injection, “Far from a mere Eyehategod or Neurosis clone, INDIAN are a well-rounded quintet capable of appealing to fans of groups as disparate as Batillus, Pelican or High On Fire.”

Widen your eye holes and check out “Rhetoric Of No” at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, the Chicagoan misanthropes will head overseas this Spring for a short bout of onstage rituals alongside labelmates Inter Arma and Windhand on select dates. The international excursion includes a performance at this year’s Roadburn gala. North American dates will be revealed in the coming weeks.

KALMAH: Finnish Death Metallers Post New Track Via Decibel Magazine

As the release of KALMAH’s Seventh Swamphony full-length draws near, today Decibel Magazine hurls forth a stream of second track “Deadfall” from the Finnish death metal miscreants!

rotate_swamphony

Recorded at Tico-Tico Studios in Kemi, Finland, the follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed 12 Gauge release was mixed and mastered at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Paradise Lost, et al) and showcases the Oulu outfit’s signature brand of frantic, yet melodic death metal tempered here by a new-found epic mournfulness. Notes New Noise Magazine in an early review of the offering: “Seventh Swamphony features quality over quantity and you will be aware of that on the first listen. Never have I heard the band so supercharged and ready to slaughter as they are featured here. Even the slower paced ‘Windlake Tale’  correctly utilizes a death growl vocal approach to its melodic folk and works well as a blueprint to show Amorphis what they’ve been doing wrong all of these years. Quite simply put, Seventh Swamphony might very well be one of the heaviest folk metal albums that I’ve heard in years and should go down in the band’s history as one of their most memorable releases. Chalk another one up for victory, KALMAH. How much better can these gentlemen get?”

Witness “Deadfall” courtesy of Decibel Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

Seventh Swamphony will be released in North America via Spinefarm Records digitally on June 18, 2013 and on CD June 25, 2013. For preorders, point your browser HERE. Additionally, if you missed it, check out the heroic devastation of the band’s “Seventh Swamphony” video courtesy of Metal Injection HERE.

VICIOUS RUMORS Debut New Video on Metal Injection

Available May 7th on Steamhammer/SPV

When Vicious Rumors returned from a long, strenuous and immensely successful world tour in autumn 2011, the musicians – least of all band mastermind and main songwriter Geoff Thorpe – couldn’t really see themselves mustering the energy to release a new studio album in the foreseeable future. “2011 was a monster year for Vicious Rumors in the most positive sense of the word,” he says, looking back at that time with surprise and some satisfaction. “We were on the road non-stop for more or less eight months, played countless club shows and performed at some of the most important festivals worldwide. The last show of the tour took place as part of the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise – what a finale! Then everything was over very suddenly and we started to work on our new album without so much as a break. Perhaps you can imagine how difficult that was and how much concentration we needed to do that kind of work without any loss of friction.” Now the doubtlessly successful result of that big challenge is scheduled for release: Vicious Rumors are set to unleash Electric Punishment sounding more multi-faceted and creative than they have done in a long time.

Today the band is pleased to debut the first video from Electric PunishmentThe video for the song “I am the Gun” is being premiered exclusively by Metal Injection. Check it out HERE.

There definitely is no discernible loss of friction on Electric Punishment, which is again ruled by what Thorpe refers to as an “impressive double bass thunder, double guitar attacks and haunting vocals the way you only get them with this band”. At the same time, the ten new songs are clearly more multi-layered and diverse than the material on its 2011 predecessor Razorback Killers. “While Razorback Killers was heavy all the way through from start to finish, the new material is more in the vein of Word Of Mouth,” Thorpe explains. At the same time, the uncompromising toughness that their fans have come to expect of Vicious Rumors is present onElectric Punishment as well: the two openers ‘I Am The Gun’ and ‘Black X List’ are typical as can be of Vicious Rumors. Thorpe refers to those numbers as “classic power metal tracks which would have fitted on every one of our albums. But there’s also an unusually atmospheric song called ‘Eternally’, an anthem to our audience entitled ‘Together We Unite’ and a deeply black ballad named ‘Escape (From Hell)’. I’m sure that our fans will be just as surprised of the whole album as they will be of the final Kiss cover ‘Strange Ways’.”

Surprised and most likely thrilled, because once again the band has brought all its skills to bear and come up with a real highlight. Thorpe, vocalist Brian Allen, bassist Stephen Goodwin and drummer Larry Howe were supported by guitarist Thean Rasmussen, who returned to the Vicious Rumors fold after Razorback Killers. In addition, Thorpe & Co. invited a number of former allies to the studio as guest musicians: Brad Gillis features on ‘D-Block’, ‘Together We Unite’ and ‘Eternally’, Marc McGhee on ‘Escape (From Hell)’, and last but not least tour guitarist Bob Capka helped out at the studio with a number of rhythm guitars and a haunting solo on ‘D-Block’. Thorpe: “I had a few problems with my fingers, that’s why I was glad that Bob was there to help. Otherwise it probably wouldn’t have been possible to stick to our tight production schedule.”

So it’s done: Electric Punishment is Vicious Rumors’ eleventh studio album and proves just how much of a force to be reckoned with this band continues to be. “We have permanently grown, there have been no two identical albums in our career because each album has a new, fresh approach,” comments Thorpe, not without pride. “Still we’ve never strayed from our course – perhaps precisely for this reason. We’ve remained faithful to our ideals and have always been honest with our fans. I think our loyal followers value that Vicious Rumors have never jumped on any kind of bandwagon. Everything we do comes from the heart, and Electric Punishment documents that no other band on this planet sounds like Vicious Rumors. To us, that’s an incentive, a challenge and a quality feature all in one. And it’s something our fans can rely on when we set off on our next monster tour in spring 2013.” Vicious Rumors have been scheduled to headline countless clubs and play important festivals (the Headbangers Open Air  in Germany and the Alcatraz festival in Belgium having been confirmed already) before going on to Japan and the USA. Thorpe: “We’re facing big challenges again – but that sort of thing has always helped Vicious Rumors to grow!”

Evocation Guitarist Vesa Kenttäkumpu Answers PMM’s Burning Questions

One of the criticisms of Illusions of Grandeur among metal critics seems to be that your sound has changed on this effort and has been described as some to be “Amon Amarth meets Dark Tranquility”. How would you respond to these critics?

I´m honored because I love those bands. I think it is a natural way for Evocation to go, we are all from Sweden and Swedish death metal is quite similar to each other in a mystical way. And of course, all of us in those bands are the same age, so we have the same background and influences I think. The funny thing is when I write a song or a melody to Evocation, there always is a little bit of Finnish melancholy in it. I never think about how it sounds, I just write songs with a feeling I have. I think it is the same thing with Olli in Amon Amarth– he’s also Finnish like me, so maybe there is a connection to the roots somehow.

What type of influence did producer Robert Laghi have on the end product of Illusions of Grandeur?

Roberto supported us when we were recording and was kind of a mentor with tips about what we should think about in the recording session. He did not get involved in any kind of melodies on the album, just how to bring the melodies to the front. Roberto was also involved when Tomas did his vocals, and he was like a psychological mentor for him, supporting Tomas all the time and testing new kinds of grooves to the songs. And of course, he did the whole sound for the album with his beautiful mix, which I really love.

What are your favorite tracks from your catalog of songs to play live and why?

I think my favorite track is from our new album Illusions of Grandeur. The song’s name is “Divide and Conquer.” This song has everything; it has a groove, suitable melodies that the listener will remember, and it has a nice solo which I like very much. I love to do solos live because you have to be focused when you are playing it and that’s a challenge for me.

If you could tour with any three bands (existing or defunct), who would be on that “dream tour”?

A dream tour would be Entombed, Evocation and Edge of Sanity.

For the death metal uninitiated, what songs/artists would you recommend?

My favorite album that will always give me goose bumps is Entombed’s Left Hand Path. This album really has an epic sound, and it has melodies which are both very harmonious and brutal in a depressing kind of way. When I heard Left Hand Path for the first time, I said to myself, “I will start a band like this.” This album got me to do death metal, and I will never regret that.

What guitar gear setup are you using for this tour?

My setup is two guitars: Gibson Les Paul custom (black), ESP Eclipse (black and grey), which I always play on. The Gibson is for fun and for recording sessions at my home. The thing is that the guitar itself is very heavy on the shoulder, which is bad when you play a lot. The guitar gives you a twisted spine. The amp I use is an ENGL Savage 120, which is really good and it has a crispy nice sound. The cabinet I use is a Marshall 1969 with 25w greenback elements. And for my solos and lead stuff, I use an effect rack TC Electronics G-major, which is good to bring up the leads live.

Favorite thing and worst thing about touring in the U.S.?

I don’t know because I have never been to the US, so that’s a tricky one. 🙂 But we would love to come to the US for a tour. Let’s see what happens in the future.

INHALE EXHALE Debut Video for ‘Low’

Post-hardcore heroes INHALE EXHALE are debuting their new video for “Low” today exclusively at Metal Injection. A ferocious performance clip with a frozen tundra serving as the stage, the video is the first from the band’s fourth album, Movement, released earlier this month on Red Cord Records.

“We picked ‘Low’ for first video because thematically it centered around the album title, about making choices and moving forward,” explains guitarist John LaRussa. “It’s not the heaviest song on the album, but we thought it hit hard and we loved the chorus on it.”

Watch “Low” now at Metal Injection:
http://www.metalinjection.net/tv/view/10257/inhale-exhale-low-music-video

“The shooting process was pretty extreme,” LaRussa adds. “It was 11 hours of getting blasted with snow. It was centered a lot on performance and we definitely all felt it after the shoot.”

With Movement now in stores, the Cleveland rocker’s are wrapping a three-week tour of Europe, having stopped in Germany, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, the Ukraine and more along the way.

Self-produced by LaRussa at his own Revelry Recording, Movement is a study in controlled chaos. The volatile, melody-driven anthems carry the weight of seasoned survivors who persevere come what may. It’s easily INHALE EXHALE’s most aggressive work to date – a fact only underscored by ferocity of their previous albums. On Movement, they push the envelope on all fronts while staying true to their hearts, their fans and their roots.

Following three successful albums with longtime label Solid State Records, INHALE EXHALE have become a fixture in the hardcore and metal community – setting a high bar from day one. Now, six years and four albums in, the band has seen and done it all – surviving through gimmicks and fads that have moved in and out of heavy music and learning from them to stay true to themselves. With Movement, INHALE EXHALE prove they’ve lost none of their fire and prove that today’s up-and-comers still have a lot of work to do.

“We’re sincerely overwhelmed with the positive response and support we’ve received surrounding Temple. We’re fortunate to be able to do what we love and have people care about it. While the EP was created from a tumultuous period, we’re glad we’re able to express ourselves. We’re grateful for what we have and who we are. Our hope is that maybe others can find something within Temple that they can connect with.”

THY WILL BE DONE have created a series of exclusive videos for the “Inside Temple”. The videos are being presented exclusively by Metal Injection. The first installment entitled “Sonic Control” focuses on how it came to be that the band’s own guitarist Kurt Fraunfelter was to ultimately engineer the EP. View the first installment HERE. The second installment “Riffing Reality”, explains how the band desired to capture their raw sound; primarily focusing on the band’s guitar tone being a prominent part of it. Check out the video HERE.

Known for their DIY approach, the EP was produced and engineered by THY WILL BE DONE, mixed by acclaimed metal producer ZEUSS (Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Soulfly) at Planet Z and is the inaugural release on the band’s own Eye.On Lion Recordings with INgrooves Fontana handling world-wide distribution.
