THEM DAMN KINGS Announce 2021 Tour Supporting GEMINI SYNDROME

Georgia based hard rock / metal band THEM DAMN KINGS have announced that they have been added as support on LA alternative metal band Gemini Syndrome’s upcoming US tour. The first leg of the tour will feature direct support from Ovtlier, and on the second leg from Oh! The Horror. Also joining the tour are punk upstarts Pushing Veronica. All tour dates are listed below.

Tickets for all shows are available at: GeminiSyndrome.com

“We are so F@#!’n ready to hit the road with Gemini Syndrome, it’s been far too long since we’ve been able to bring you guys pure unadulterated rock n fk’n roll!” says vocalist / guitarist Jef Rhodes. “No more pandemivision! No more BS! See all of you down the road!”

THEM DAMN KINGS will be road testing songs from their as-of-yet unreleased debut album Rise Up. The album features the tracks ‘Throw It Away’ and ‘Yesterday’ which were released to US metal radio late last year, and saw the band conquer the national Metal Contraband radio charts. As a special bonus for fans, the band will be selling a limited number of advance CDs of the Rise Up album online, and at all shows while on the tour. CDs will be available online at the band’s merch store: https://them-damn-kings-.ecwid.com

Rhodes adds, “After almost two damn years I’m excited and proud to finally announce our album Rise Up is available for your listening displeasure. I’m beyond excited for you guys to hear the record and even more excited to be bringing you a taste of the album to the stage!”

THEM DAMN KINGS is the hard rock wrecking machine created by guitarist / multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Jef Rhodes. Jef is a long time professional Front Of House engineer, and backline tech who has over two decades of international touring experience with such bands as: OpethCradle of FilthHighly SuspectLacuna CoilWatainMayhem, and others.

By enlisting former Lacuna Coil drummer Ryan Folden, the pair have recorded RISE UP, a monster of a debut album that sounds both new and exciting – while simultaneously reminding listeners of that golden age of the early ‘90s when Hard Rock, Metal, and Grunge ruled the late night rock clubs of the world.

A debut single “Throw It Away” was released in October 2020. “It was the first song written for the record. It makes me wanna get on a motorcycle and ride even though the song has nothing to do with that.” says Jef. “It’s about tossing away your fears in an abstract sort of way.” The track was quickly followed by anthemic ‘Yesterday’ which garnered the band their first international radio play, and media support.

Jef has assembled a killer live band – and the group are ready to hit the road!

Jef Rhodes – Vocals / guitar
Lando Carter – backing guitars
Ja Ja – bass
Todd (Toddzilla) Taylor – Drums

Banger Films Launches Final “Extreme Metal” Crowndfunding Push

Award-Winning Metal Filmmakers Join Forces with Underground Metal Community to Complete “Extreme Metal”

After an enormously successful IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign raising nearly $40,000, Grammy-nominated and Juno-winning Banger Films is embarking on a final push to create the “Lost Episode” of the series Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal. The episode will take viewers on an unprecedented journey across Europe and North America to tell the story of metal’s most aggressive and misunderstood sub-genre.

“Our first IndieGoGo campaign was a huge success and we were blown-away by the support of the metal community,” says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. “The research, writing, travel and filming is now complete and we’ve captured some amazing interviews and footage. But we need to turn this footage into an episode!” The new campaign kicked off Friday, August 9th. Details of the campaign, including a brand-new trailer featuring exclusive footage from Banger’s Extreme Metal filming trip, can be found here: igg.me/at/LostEpisode

Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on the “Heavy Metal Family Tree” originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Host and metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn crisscrossed the globe exploring the vast history of Heavy Metal across its 40+ year history, covering everything from the Pre-History of Metal and Shock Rock to Grunge and Thrash Metal. But one very important episode was left out: Extreme Metal. “Some of the networks felt that Extreme Metal was too heavy or too niche. We’re out to prove that Extreme Metal is metal’s most vital sub-genre and that metal would probably die without it!,” says Dunn.

Tom Gabriel Warrior, legendary frontman for extreme metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon, was interviewed by Dunn for the episode: “It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to host Sam and his outstanding team at my place in Zurich. That extreme metal has been overlooked in this series so far is a scandal. This episode is utterly overdue!”

Bands appearing in the episode include Venom, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Slayer, Napalm Death, Carcass, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Enslaved, Gojira and more. The episode will also feature some renowned locations in the history of Extreme Metal including Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, as well as travel footage from Norway, Switzerland, UK, US, and Hellfest (France), one of the world’s biggest metal festivals.

Contributors’ support for the new IndieGoGo campaign will cover costs of finishing the episode which includes editing, archival and music licensing, onlining, sound mixing and other post-production costs. “People are often surprised by how much making quality film and TV costs. It requires a lot of hard work from a team of talented people to ensure we make the best possible show. Extreme Metal deserves the same high-production value and attention to detail that we gave the other Metal Evolution episodes”, adds Dunn. “I’m not getting paid to make this episode but what matters to me is that the Metal Evolution series is finally completed!”

Andy Winters Premieres “Somewhere Else To Disappear”

AndyW5ckHIGHRES.120430

Andy Winter has been behind several noteworthy releases in the more progressive and avant-garde spectrum of the Norwegian post-black metal scene. His style of subdued, classically influenced progressive metal is probably not quite what most people think of when they hear the words Norwegian and metal mentioned together, as his music features a far more classical and progressive influenced sound than the groups of his usual co-collaborators.

He founded his first band in 1998, the quartet known as Winds, which consists of members from several well-known bands on the Norwegian metal scene (Mayhem, Arcturus, The Kovenant, Khold, etc.). From there he went on to form Age of Silence in 2004 (with members from Borknagar, Solefald, etc.). He has since participated on two records with Subterranean Masquerade and one with Self Spiller, in addition to recording a full length album with Sculptured (the side project with several members from the American folk metal band Agalloch).

Having kept busy making several records with his main bands throughout the 2000s, in addition to an instrumental piano EP as a solo artist, he started working on a new full length effort in 2008. His vision for this recording: To collaborate with some of the various musicians he had crossed paths with over the years, through his work in his own projects as well as some of the new friends encountered through being a The End Records artist for over a decade.

The result is “Incomprehensible” – a full-length album featuring the following tracks and vocalists:

1. Reversed Psychological Patterns (Agnete M. Kirkevaag of Madder Mortem)
2. My Illusions Are My Own (John Haughm of Agalloch)
3. Perfection Is The Blank Page (Kjetil Nordhus of Tristania, Trail of Tears & Green Carnation)
4. Somewhere Else To Disappear (Dan Swanö of Nightingale & Bloodbath)
5. Through The Eyes Of A Surrealist (Lars A. Nedland of Borknagar, Solefald & Age of Silence)
6. Far Beyond Autopilot (Heidi S. Tveitan of Star of Ash & Peccatum)
7. The Transversal Conjecture (Paul Kuhr of Novembers Doom & Subterranean Masquerade)
8. Back To Square Two (Lars E. Si of Winds, Before the Dawn & Sensa Anima)

Also appearing are Jan Axel von Blomberg (Mayhem, Arcturus & Winds), Carl August Tidemann (Winds & Arcturus), Øystein Moe (Winds & Ulver), Don Anderson (Agalloch & Sculptured) and Mike Young (The Devin Townsend Project). The album was produced by Andy Winter himself, mixed by Shaun Thingvold, mastered by Maor Appelbaum and features artwork by Travis Smith.

Having continued his approach of always applying a very genre-defying style, “Incomprehensible” is yet another unmistakable and unique record from Andy Winter, and one that provides a different experience altogether when compared to anything else in metal, or indeed most music.

WATAIN signs worldwide deal with Century Media Records

Century Media Records is proud to welcome Swedish black metal extremists WATAIN to its worldwide family. Legitimately labeled as genre leaders, deservedly awarded with a Swedish Grammy, playing the world’s biggest stages and touring the globe constantly while reaching numerous top positions in the annual reader’s polls, WATAIN have worked hard and achieved a lot over the past years despite successfully ignoring any kind of conformity and concession to the metal mainstream. Unrivaled in their unwillingness to compromise and clear artistic vision, WATAIN are most befittingly described with the title of BATHORY’s third opus – “Blood Fire Death”, a fact they never fail to underline with their infamous live shows: The stench of rotting animal cadavers, the inferno of candelabras and torches, chalices of blood, darkness and death – WATAIN are a full scale attack on all sensory organs. In days of toothless, sterile, family-friendly metal they embody danger and dread and are rewarded with a maximum of support and appreciation.

WATAIN comments:
“We are writing this from a magical place of desolation and desert-like vastness, where wondrous things are at this very moment taking place. Things that will come to colour our world as well as yours in the strangest hues for many years to come. We are entering this new chapter of WATAIN with a will and confidence to make it the most diverse and rememberable so far. And with the things that we have in mind for the future, it looks like it will be just so. Just wait and see, f***ers! Loud and terrible shall the trumpets of Devils sound…”

“Century Media is massively excited to work with WATAIN. This band has it all: charisma, the firm will to conquer the world, and an authenticity you rarely find these days. Mixed with their creativity and musical impact – this band will make it to the top. They are a healthy slap in the face for any Metal Bourgeois. We are ready to kill for them!” says Antje Lange, General Manager Century Media Europe

“I am very proud and excited to welcome WATAIN to the Century Media family. There are few bands that remind me of when I first discovered metal as a teenager that could give me the same feeling of extreme release and evil such as SLAYER, VENOM and MERCYFUL FATE did. WATAIN is one of those rare bands and I look forward to being a part of their growing career and helping today’s future metalhead find their way!” adds Don Robertson, President Century Media USA.

Formed back in 1998, the first two albums Rabid Death’s Curse (2000) and Casus Luciferi (2003) established the band firmly within the underground scene whereas Sworn To The Dark (2007) and especially Lawless Darkness (2010) helped them conquer a wider audience making them one of the most talked about acts in recent years. Musically rooted in classic black metal inspired by the likes of VENOM, HELLHAMMER, BATHORY, MAYHEM, DISSECTION as well as the grandeur of old IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, RAINBOW, it is the larger-than-life aesthetics and total dedication to their art that elevates WATAIN beyond almost any other extreme metal band out there. WATAIN is satanic metal at its most frightening and fascinating.

After celebrating their 13th anniversary with the release of the DVD/double live album Opus Diaboli (2012) under the band’s own imprint His Master’s Noise, followed by an US tour with BEHEMOTH, THE DEVIL’S BLOOD and IN SOLITUDE earlier this year plus celebrated shows at Wacken and Bloodstock Open Air, 2013 will see the release of WATAIN’s much anticipated fifth studio album via His Master’s Noise in collaboration with Century Media Records. Beware!

Read on for a few reviews of NACHTMYSTIUM’s Silencing Machine:

“[‘Silencing Machine’ is] dirty, it’s black metal and it’s awesome.” — METAL INJECTION

“While not as outwardly experimental as ‘Assassins’ and ‘Addicts’ genre cross-breeding, ‘Silencing Machine’ still pushes [NACHTMYSTIUM’s] sound forward, bringing the psychedelic and post-punk influences into an organic synthesis with their anthems to the welkin at midnight.” — DECIBEL MAGAZINE

“Frontman Blake Judd still smears riffs and pukes tar…” — AV CLUB LOUD

“After releasing two albums–2008’s ‘Assassins: Black Meddle Part 1’ and 2010’s ‘Addicts: Black Meddle Part 2’–that strayed significantly from the band’s black metal roots, Chicago’s NACHTMYSTIUM have returned to the wintry void with their latest, ‘Silencing Machine.'” — REVOLVER MAGAZINE

“NACHTMYSTIUM has always been the torchbearer when it comes to pushing black metal’s boundaries to unthinkable, un-forest locales and while 2008’s ‘Assassins: Black Meddle Part I’ and 2010’s ‘Addicts: Black Meddle Part II’ were impressive bouts of exploratory surgeries, it is ‘Silencing Machine’ that is the true follow-up to NACHTMYSTIUM catalogue highlight ‘Instinct: Decay’…” — BRAVE WORDS

“…NACHTMYSTIUM has time and again shown that black metal is a many splendored thing, continuously stretching the walls of the genre to not only make waves, but create an undertow, nearly dragging their competition to drown in the darkened depths…’Silencing Machine’ does not disappoint.” — METAL SUCKS

“The tracks are brutal, melodic, and powerful, merging all the best elements of NACHTMYSTIUM into one potent mix.” — HAILS AND HORNS

Century Media Records to re-issue BORKNAGAR’s ‘The Olden Domain’ and MAYHEM’s ‘De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas’ on vinyl

To celebrate Black (Metal) Friday, Century Media Records will re-issue two classic titles: BORKNAGAR’s The Olden Domain and MAYHEM’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas! Limited to 1,000 copies each, these titles will be available only at your local independent music store starting on Friday, November 23rd. To find a participating store near you, please check out www.recordstoreday.com.

The Olden Domain is BORKNAGAR’s second studio album, and their first to feature English lyrics. It also marks the beginning of the band’s transition to their trademark progressive/folk/black metal sound featured on later records. This would be the band’s last studio album to feature Garm (credited on this album as “Fiery G. Maelstrom”) on vocals. It is also their first album to feature Kai K. Lie on bass, replacing Infernus.

Songwriting for De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas began as early as 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per “Dead” Ohlin and murder of guitarist Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, the album’s release was delayed until May of 1994. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is widely considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. Now available as a deluxe double LP in gatefold packaging with bonus poster, the darkness continues to bleed forth.
