About SABATON:
Formed in Falun, Sweden in 1999, SABATON thoroughly researches their battle topics to ensure the songs paint accurate and objective portraits of the historical event they’re singing about, which are narrated from an omniscient point-of-view or in first-person as a soldier caught in the line of fire. Like their home country of Sweden, SABATON aims to remain politically neutral in their role as musical war historians. SABATON have reached their unshaken position as heavy metal’s AAA-torchbearer after releasing ingenious studio recordings and playing endless amount of unforgettable live shows with massive live production. The Last Stand is another unquestionable and bulletproof evidence of SABATON‘s top class abilities. The album reached the highest US & Canadian chart entries in the bands history, debuting at #63 on the Billboard U.S. Top 200 album chart and #20 on the Canadian Top 200 album chart, as well as several other charts.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH sees Jack White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern. Written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with literally no outside world distractions, White exclusively used the same kind of gear he had when he was 15 years old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation). The album explores a remarkable range of sonic terrain — crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues, and even country — all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. BOARDING HOUSE REACH is a testament to the breadth of Jack White’s creative power and his bold artistic ambition.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH features White on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars and drums, organ, and synthesizers. He’s backed by a remarkable new lineup of musicians that includes: drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend, Mariah Carey), bassists Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger) and NeonPhoenix (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z), synthesizer players DJ Harrison and Anthony “Brew” Brewster (Fishbone, The Untouchables), keyboardists Neal Evans (Soulive, Talib Kweli, John Scofield) and Quincy McCrary (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pitbull), percussionists Bobby Allende (David Byrne, Marc Anthony) and Justin Porée (Ozomatli), and backing vocalists Esther Rose and Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville’s beloved gospel trio, The McCrary Sisters, as well as longtime collaborators like drummers Daru Jones (Nas, Talib Kweli) and Carla Azar (Autolux, Depeche Mode, Doyle Bramhall II). Singer-songwriter C.W. Stoneking also appears, contributing a stirring spoken word performance to the album’s “Abulia and Akrasia.”

BOARDING HOUSE REACH was produced by Jack White III and recorded at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN, Sear Sound in New York, NY, and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, CA; the album was mixed by Bill Skibbe, Joshua V. Smith, and White at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN.

“Connected By Love” b/w “Respect Commander” is available now digitally worldwide and as a physical 7-inch vinyl single pressed at Third Man Pressing in Detroit, MI. The single is accompanied by a brand-new music video from director Pasqual Gutierrez – watch it now HERE.

“Connected By Love” was greeted with rapturous global applause upon its arrival earlier this month, withRolling Stone exclaiming, “The four-year wait is over” with the “blistering first single” from BOARDING HOUSE REACHBillboard declared the song “a classic White confessional blues burner,” while Entertainment Weeklycalled it “thrillingly weird…a searing, organ-lined plea to a former flame.” NPR‘s Bob Boilen raved: “Connected By Love” is “a blend of old guitar blues that is simultaneously on the edge of rock’s horizon.”

White and Third Man Records have also revealed details of their BOARDING HOUSE REACH-themed Vault Package #35, marking the ONLY limited edition of the new album. Vault Package #35 is highlighted by a limited edition, colored vinyl version of BOARDING HOUSE REACH that will be the only vinyl variation of the LP to be made available. Pressed at Third Man Pressing in the Cass Corridor of Detroit, the 180-gram, blue and black swirl vinyl edition features exclusive Vault-only cover art which dramatically depicts White’s stylized face and is printed on arresting holographic foil paper in the classic Stoughton tip-on style. The LP is further accompanied by a unique-to-this-package 12″ x 24″ insert featuring the complete album lyrics.

The BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault package also includes a two-song demo 7-inch single, offering up embryonic versions of “Connected By Love” and the album track, “Why Walk a Dog?” The former take – billed here under its original title, “Infected By Love” – was recorded entirely by White in the aforementioned Nashville apartment. White found keyboard tones on this recording that the world’s most seasoned session musicians could not recreate in the studio and thus, some of those tones were sourced from this simple demo to be utilized on the final album version. Meanwhile, “Why Walk a Dog?” was recorded, like much of the BOARDING HOUSE REACH demos, alone at his private songwriting refuge. With its expressive synth and drum machine cadence, the track is overtly hypnotic even in this early state. Indeed, the “Connected By Love” and “Why Walk a Dog?” single provides a fascinating insight into White’s process, revealing the creative progression of his songs from inception to completion.

In addition to the recorded material, Vault Package #35 comes with three separate and exclusive photographs shot during BOARDING HOUSE REACH recording sessions. Taken by noted photographer – and White’s longtime friend – David Swanson at Sear Sound in New York and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, these large-format, high quality glossy reproductions are exclusive to the Vault. The photographs will be coupled with three foil-stamped poetry broadsides, printed on silky metallic papers (black, white, and blue) containing White’s poems from the new album tracks, “Abulia and Akrasia,” “Ezmerelda Steals the Show,” and “Get in the Mind Shaft.”

Lastly, BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault Package #35 will also include, for the third year running, a custom 2018 Third Man Records challenge coin, complete with album-specific artwork. The substantial and stylish coin doubles as a 45 adaptor and grants its holder 10% off purchases in both Third Man Records storefronts. Past Third Man Challenge coins will no longer be valid at Third Man storefronts once Vault Package #35 ships.

Third Man Vault subscriptions are open now through January 31. All BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault packages will ship to arrive on and as close to the album’s official March 23 street date. Learn more about this package, additional Vault benefits and subscribe now at Third Man Records HERE.

His most recent full-length release, 2016’s JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 (Third Man Records/Columbia), collected 26 acoustic-based songs from throughout White’s wide-ranging musical career, spanning album tracks, B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased material from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and White’s groundbreaking solo career. The collection debuted at #1 onBillboard‘s “Vinyl Albums” chart upon its September 2016 release – a position also achieved by 2012’s RIAA gold certified solo debut, BLUNDERBUSS, and 2014’s chart-topping LAZARETTO, both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 as well.

Walk The Moon Press Restart Tour 2018

Walk The Moon. You may be reading this and thinking, “oh that’s the band that sings ‘Shut Up And Dance‘, right?” Well, yes, but they are so much more than that. Continue reading to hear all about how they brought the house down at Stage AE on Tuesday night and provided some temporary relief from the cold rainy weather.
On tour with them, Walk The Moon brought along Company of Thieves as their opener. Originally, they’re from Chicago, IL and have since relocated to Los Angeles. Personally, they remind me of a much poppier and mild Tonight Alive… mostly because every member in the band is male aside from the lead singer. Genevieve is the lead singer and she is amazing. She works the stage and has a very powerful voice and can take the attention of everyone in the room. I loved them. Their sound was fitting to the headliner’s genre as well and I felt they meshed well. I hate going to shows and the openers’ genre(s) don’t match or mesh well with who the headliner is. Company of Thieves was the perfect opener and their set was fantastic. Their performance was fun and upbeat and kept the audience’s attention throughout. Their Facebook is linked above and you can follow them on just about every form of social media (and I suggest you check out their music on Spotify as well if Indie/Pop is your thing).
Walk The Moon opened up their set with “Press Restart” from their newest album, ‘What If Nothing’. According to their Facebook page, they are considered Indie/Visual/Lyrical, which is very fitting after having seen them live. Their light show is amazing and rivals The 1975. May not beat it, but it’s up there. They play around with tons of different colors (no pun intended… you’ll understand in a few seconds) and have produced an all around fun production to go along with their crazy talent.
Later in the set, they slowed it down a bit for “Aquaman” and “Surrender” to which the crowd sang every word. “Different Colors” was soon after (see I told you). Before this, lead singer, Nicholas Petricca gave a little speech about equality and our society. Their light show included every different color on the spectrum, with a visual in the background with rainbow colors, the universal representation of equality.
If I could say anything that’s very consistent within their show, it would be to bring ear plugs because it’s very loud and also, don’t be afraid to dance. Have some fun because they make it hard not to. “Shut Up And Dance” really got the crowd moving. Everyone was singing along, dancing, and fist pumping. A few songs later, they got the crowd moving again with “One Foot”, and as I said before, if you’re at a Walk The Moon show, don’t be afraid to dance. Even if you suck at it. They make it so hard to just sit and watch. So, do yourself a favor and give in and dance your socks off.
They continued with “Next In Line” and “Headphones” before leaving the stage and awaiting the screaming crowd, aka their cue to come back and do the encore. Once the crowd was loud enough, they came back and made a point to note that this was the loudest crowd of the tour so far. That of course got the crowd to be even louder. The encore consisted of two hits from the 2014 release, ‘Talking Is Hard‘, “Up 2 U” and finally, “Anna Sun“.
I can honestly say this was one of the most fun shows I’ve been to in a while. Their show is definitely worth the ticket purchase. They have this way of temporarily relieving you of your anxieties for an hour and a half. Some of my favorite photos of the night are showcased below! You can also go check out their latest album, “What If Nothing” on Spotify here!

GRETA VAN FLEET ANNOUNCES INITIAL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES FOR 2018

GRETA VAN FLEET ANNOUNCES INITIAL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES FOR 2018
With Five Dates Already Sold Out, U.S. Trek Starts April 13 at CoachellaBand Has Started Recording its Debut Full-Length Album

Greta Van Fleet – “10 New Artists You Need to Know” – Rolling Stone

LOS ANGELES, CA – January 24, 2018 — Greta Van Fleet, who took the 2017 music scene by storm with its dynamic rock ‘n’ roll debut single “Highway Tune” claiming the #1 spot at Rock Radio for five consecutive weeks, amassing 10-million-plus Spotify plays and 6.8-million YouTube views in 2017 alone, selling out every single one of its headline dates in advance, and being named Loudwire’s “Best New Artist,” will kick off its 2018 tour schedule at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday, April 13.  The band’s itinerary will include a slew of other major outdoor music festivals as well as headline dates that will see them playing to larger-capacity venues and multiple nights in some cities.  Five of the dates – Houton, Dallas, Nashville and two nights in Detroit – went on sale last week and all sold out in under 15-minutes.  Tickets for Greta Van Fleet’s headline dates for this leg go on sale to the public this Friday, January 26; log on to www.gretavanfleet.com for all ticket purchasing info.

“We love making music and we love playing shows, but we never expected anything like the attention we’ve been getting,” said bassist Sam Kizska.  “We are truly humbled by the response we’ve gotten, and are very excited to get back on the road and play for our fans.”

Prior to the tour, the Frankenmuth, MI-based Greta Van Fleet – 21-year old vocalist Josh Kiszka, brothers Jake (guitar, also 21) and Sam (bass, keys, 18), and longtime family friend Danny Wagner (drums, also 18) – are spending January and February recording its debut full-length album anticipated to be released late Spring/early Summer (Lava/Republic Records).  The album will be recorded in Nashville and Detroit and produced by Al Sutton and Marlon Young, the duo that helmed the band’s critically-acclaimed, chart-topping/breakout EPs, Black Smoke Rising (4/21/17) and the follow up From The Fires double EP (11/10/17).  For the album, the band has an archive of songs written over the past few years as well as brand new material penned late last year when they spent a week in the Tennessee woods.  So, fans can look forward to the next evolution of, as Revolver magazine put it, Greta Van Fleet‘s “high-octane, soul-and R&B-influenced riff rock.”

“Each of us has his own set of influences so that brings a great diversity to the music we make,” said Jake.  “Every one of our songs has its own unique complexities and we’d like for the full album to showcase that diversity, let people see what we can really do.”

ABOUT URIAH HEEP:
URIAH HEEP debuted in 1970 with the release of one of hard rock’s milestones, “Very ‘eavy… Very ‘umble” and have since sold in excess of 40 million albums worldwide. They constantly tour the world, playing up to 125 shows a year to 500,000+ fans. The band’s live set features the classic tracks from the ’70s and is a musical journey from the band’s beginnings to the present day.
Along with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep helped invent a decorative and uniquely British form of heavy metal with their debut album, Very ‘Eavy, Very ‘Umble, offered as a self-titled on American shores, but whatever the titling, historically massive in the invention of a music format that would rule the ’70s and only intensify in the ’80s.

Uriah Heep have been responsible for the most elevated and intelligent use of vocals in a heavy metal context amongst the major bands inventing the genre in the 1970s. It is for this reason Heep were coined the Beach Boys of Heavy Metal, and their influence is there for all to see in other bands including ‘Queen.’ They were also one of the forerunners of using the Hammond organ along with Micks signature wah wah guitar and this became the template for their sound.

Success has followed the forging of such an audacious formula. Across 25 studio albums, along with myriad live releases and compilations, Uriah Heep have managed to sell 40 million records worldwide, four million of those in the US. Impressive American numbers, but that leaves 36 million records to be sold in the rest of the world, underscoring the fact that Uriah Heep have become, through their relentless dedication to touring, a truly global band, with particular success in Germany, Scandinavia, Japan, Eastern Europe and Russia, where they were the first Western rock band to play live in Moscow in December 1987 to 180,000 people.

Through their success as Rock n’ Roll pioneers this enabled other bands to follow in their wake and Russia is now part of every bands touring schedule.
URIAH HEEP is:
Mick Box: Guitars, Vocals
Phil Lanzon: Keyboards, Vocals
Bernie Shaw: Lead Vocals
Russell Gilbrook: Drums, Vocals
Dave Rimmer: Bass, Vocals

MAC SABBATH Coloring Activity Book and Flexi Disc
Mixing raucous comedy with borderline-horrific theatrics, the only thing more petrifying than impending health problems resulting from years of overeating is a MAC SABBATH show. Show attendees should be prepared to partake in the fun – MAC SABBATH puts on a theatrical, multimedia stage show – complete with a smoking grill, laser-eyed clowns, bouncing burgers and many more magical surprises… basically anything and everything an unwary show-goer could ever want in their wildest dreams. Named by Buzzfeed as one of the “13 Metal Bands You Didn’t Know How to React To” + Named as LA’s “Best Tribute Band” by LA Weekly.

“… one of the most interesting bands to come around in a long, long time. They have Dead Kennedys’ outrageous sense of humor mixed with total irreverence and ornate style on top of a solid, engaging performance (even if the crowd is reluctant to respond). So while this whole thing was probably thought up after eating too many pot brownies, it is one of the most brilliant ideas in a long time.” – Troy Farah, Phoenix New Times

“This is not a drill. Be it exchanging Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” for a “Pair-a-buns” or “Iron Man” for a “Frying Pan,” these food-focused musical dweebs are cooking up something hot ‘n’ ready just for you.” – Alicia Lutes, MTV.com

“The most impressive-and terrifying-thing about Mac Sabbath is that they’re actually really good. Ronald channels his inner Ozzy onstage, from the manic jumping to the frantic hand waving…” – Bryan Rolli, Paste Magazine

“Even if the songs are dripping with onions and extra cheese, Mac Sabbath put on one righteous stage show, complete with smoke machines, gritty power chords, and endless head-banging.”  – Chris Coplan, ConsequenceofSound.net

Bio/Info:

The Portland–based rock band worked with producer Ross Robinson (At The Drive-In, The Cure, Slipknot) and mixer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Melvins) on the 10-song album. “We wanted to leave Portland so we could be a little more immersed in the process, instead of having to think about going to get groceries and stuff,” explained Aaron Beam in a recent Revolver interview of working at Ross Robinson’s Venice, Calif. studio.

In the week’s leading up to Only Ghosts’ release, the Portland-based rock band have also created a tremendously clever video about wronged comic book collectors seeking Predator-style vengeance (“Shadows”: https://youtu.be/cnhCxVy5pfs), partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a tour only blend dubbed “The Deep” after the song of the same name and lent their music to Pabst Blue Ribbon’s retro pinball machine, The Can Crusher. The band recently held a “Shadows” inspired Coloring Book contest sponsored with Indie Merch Store and New Noise Magazine. View all entries at http://redfang.net/coloringbook.

Nerdist dubbed Only Ghosts a “supremely excellent new album” while Metal Sucks offered, “…with Only Ghosts, they’ve delivered their freshest set of jams yet. On this new album, Red Fang are executing their songwriting at a deadly precision: their melodies are hookier, their compositions perfectly tweaked, their dual-throaty-vocal layers reaching an artful tier not really seen in the genre since Blood Mountain.”

Only Ghosts is available now (www.redfang.bandcamp.com), as are physical bundles:http://bit.ly/only-ghosts.

BUTCHER BABIES Launch Pre-Order for ‘Lilith’ (Out Oct. 27) – On Tour This Fall w/ Hollywood Undead Oct 10 @StageAE

BUTCHER BABIES LAUNCH PRE-ORDER FOR ‘LILITH’

NEW ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 27 ON CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD BEGINS NEXT MONTH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September, 8th 2017
Hollywood-based Metal outfit BUTCHER BABIES are set to release their third studio album, Lilith, on October 27th via Century Media Records. Today, the band is thrilled to announce that pre-orders for the new album are available now in both physical and digital formats. Speaking about the unique pre-order packages for Lilith, Carla Harvey (vocals) comments:
“In anticipation of ‘Lilith’, we wanted to offer unique pre-sale bundles that are special to us. Not only do we have the album, limited edition vinyl, and t-shirts up for grabs, but we are also offering limited edition items curated by myself and Heidi. One such item is a gorgeous lyric book for Lilith featuring never before seen illustrations by me and graphics by Heidi.  Another item is our signature Lilith pendant, a darling necklace handcrafted by us for our Butcher Army. You can find all the details on our pre-order site www.ButcherBabiesOfficial.com
BUTCHER BABIES – ‘Lilith’ Pre-order: http://smarturl.it/BBLilith
Fans that pre-order Lilith will also receive the album’s title track as an Instant Grat. Speaking about the first offering from their new album, Heidi Shepherd (vocals) states:
“After a year of writing and recording we are thrilled with the growth and maturity of this album. Leading with our title track ‘Lilith’, the artistic development within the band shines. We worked with producer, Steve Evetts to bring you the rawest form of Butcher Babies. No auto-tune, 100% real drums, real guitars, real bass, and an all out Butcher Babies assault on your senses. As we know in this industry, these standards are quickly replaced by machines and can eliminate what makes a band an actual band. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that each member of our team put in to create this masterpiece.”
BUTCHER BABIES will make their much awaited return to the road in North America alongside Hollywood Undead as part of a two month run in the states. With shows already sold out in Hollywood, Des Moines, St. Louis, and Madison, WI, fans can find a complete list of dates below.

Garbage Shares Music Video for New Single “No Horses”

NOW TOURING THE U.S. WITH BLONDIE

NEW AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL COFFEE TABLE BOOK

THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE AVAILABLE NOW

Garbage today shared a music video for their new single “No Horses”. Directed by Pancake Mountain creator Scott Stuckey, the politically charged clip can be seen HERE. “No Horses” was released last month and is available now HERE. All of the band’s profits from sales and streaming of the single will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018.
“It’s been my observation that when governments disregard their citizens for their own greed, the ensuing soundtrack usually kick’s ass. Like Nina Simone’s ‘Mississippi Goddam’ or the Clash’s ‘Straight To Hell’, ‘No Horses’ made me realize that I’m not going insane, these really are fucked up times. The lyrics are powerful so the challenge was to add something visually that wouldn’t ruin the individual’s interpretation,” offered director Scott Stuckey on the video’s inspiration.

Earlier this summer, Garbage released their autobiographical coffee table book, THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE via Akashic Books. The book includes never before seen photographs of the band as well as pieces written by each of the four band members. THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE can be purchased HERE

Garbage kicked off their co-headline “Rage & Rapture Tour” with Blondie on July 5th in Saratoga, CA and will be touring the U.S. for the duration of the summer. Both bands along with an opening slot from Sky Ferreira played to a crowd of 17,000 fans last month, selling out LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Support for additional Rage & Rapture tour dates will be provided by John Doe & Exene Cervenka followed by Deap Vally. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be foundHERE.

The band’s unique sound and provocative visual aesthetic, inspired massive worldwide attention and success. Their follow up album, Version 2.0, released in 1998, topped charts all over the world and garnered multiple Grammy Award nominations including Album Of The Year. Garbage went on to release two more albums: 2001’s Beautiful Garbage and 2005’s Bleed Like Me, the latter of which earned the band its highest chart position with a No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. After a 7-year hiatus, the band released their fifth studio album Not Your Kind of People in 2012 on their independent record label, STUNVOLUME. The album was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 50 Albums of 2012 and was hailed as the “alternative to everything,” by Pitchfork. Garbage has sold over 15 million albums worldwide and performed in over thirty-five countries. In 2015, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary with their SOLD OUT ’20 Years Queer’ world tour and the release of a special 20th anniversary edition of their debut album, re-mastered and featuring previously unreleased material. The release date is September 8, 2017 on Reprise Records – it will be available on vinyl, CD and digitally. The 10-track acoustic solo album was recorded in Malibu, CA at Indigo Studio in 1976. The original session was produced by Young’s long-time studio collaborator David Briggs. Pre-order for Hitchhiker begins today.  Go here for details:   https://wbr.ec/hitchhiker
Recorded between Zuma and American Stars and Bars as a solo album in a single session, the resultant performances are truly breathtaking and passionate. The simplicity of a single voice and guitar captured here is as pure and powerful as it gets, with only Young, Briggs and actor Dean Stockwell in the room at the time of recording. A few of the songs would not appear on vinyl until years later. Some have never been heard, included in the original sessions for Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s Dume, another unreleased record of original sessions that yielded the classic album, Zuma. When the Hitchhiker album was recorded, none of the included songs had ever been released and many of the performances of the songs were the first ever. This is truly an album of original performances.
Hitchhikertrack listing as follows:
Side One:                                           Side Two:
1. Pocahontas                                    1. Ride My Llama
2. Powderfinger                                 2. Hitchhiker
3. Captain Kennedy                           3. Campaigner
4. Hawaii                                            4. Human Highway
5. Give Me Strength                         5. The Old Country Waltz

X-Factor Runner-Up Josh Krajcik @ClubCafe August 26

Josh Krajcik has a show upcoming at Club Cafe on Saturday, August 26. The show is one of the first in support of his recently released album – Oblivion. Tickets are $10. Doors are at 6 PM with the show at 7 PM.

X-Factor Runner-Up (2011) Josh Krajcik is releasing his first collection of original songs since 2013’s Blindly, Lonely, Lovely. All but abandoning the influence of the TV show’s aim for pop stardom in favor of a raw, melancholic, troubadour style of songwriting and storytelling.

Returning to his roots wearing his heart on his sleeve and demons on his shoulder, Krajcik still paints with a voice that sounds both bold and broken.

His latest offering pushes away from TOP 40 and comfortably seats him in the company of contemporaries such as Ray LaMontagne, Jason Isbell and Ryan Adams.

Mark Lanegan Band Announce “Still Life With Roses” Remix EP Out September 29th on Heavenly Recordings

Mark Lanegan Band Announce Still Life With Roses Remix EP, Out September 29th Via Heavenly Recordings
On US Tour in August
US Tour Dates
Following career-best reviews for his tenth album Gargoyle, and a sold–out UK tour in late June, MARK LANEGAN BAND today announce the release of Still Life With Roses, a 6 track EP of remixes from the LP by various producers whose work he admires. The EP, released 29th September via Heavenly Recordings, will be available as 12” vinyl and download and comprises a brilliant array of remixes by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Adrian Sherwood and Pye Corner Audio. The Adrian Sherwood remix of Nocturne is available an instant grat and streaming HERE, the track listing is further down the announcement:

Press acclaim for Gargoyle:

“Mark Lanegan makes blues for our time, chopping up sonic tropes, stretching them over handcarved laments, wrenching them from his throat and bleeding badly all over them.” -PASTE

“It features, as always, Lanegan’s smoky, whiskey-soaked baritone singing voice (if you’re unfamiliar, imagining a more soulful Leonard Cohen puts you in the ballpark), and it continues his ongoing explorations of synth music” -Dangerous Minds

“[It] is stunning not only for the music’s scintillating sheen, but also for Lanegan’s excellent performance. His gruff baritone has always been reminiscent of Leonard Cohen, but here he recalls the late great’s iridescent lyrics with a moribund romanticism.” – Stereogum

“The one constant has been Lanegan’s moody, melancholic soul-shaker of a voice.” –The A.V. Club

“Gargoyle is as confident and assured as anything Lanegan has released. It stands up alongside his best work and pushes his method in a few new directions, without trying to break from the paradigm” -Pop Matters

“Gargoyle has an early 80s UK electronic rock feel, with Lanegan’s rough vocal rasp sawing through musical timbres reminiscent of what was being played out at Manchester’s Factory.” – The WIRE

Still Life With Roses tracklist:
1. Nocturne (Adrian Sherwood remix)
2. Blue Blue Sea (Not Waving Remix)
3. Old Swan (Pye Corner Audio remix)
4. Beehive (Andrew Weatherall remix)
5. Beehive (Andrew Weatherall dub)

6. Death’s Head Tattoo (Falling Percussion Dub)

Concert Review: Rusted Root Pittsburgh PA @ Station Square

Review and photos: Ed Thompson

Heading out to cover and photograph Rusted Root this past Friday was more than an adventure.  It was more of a goal and vision. Keep in mind, this review is not meant to be about me at all. But my health recently took a turn for the worse having been diagnosed with skin cancer.  The date on the calendar that was circled for my surgery was June 22nd. The next date circled and marked was June 23rd. The night I was going to cover and photograph a band I have always liked and felt a “powerful” feeling to over the years. That band is Rusted Root. And the band also promised to perform some new material for the first time ever. So, I was even more excited and had more urgency to get to the show. Rusted Root is a brand that I feel I kind of got to hear developed back in the years 1986-1989 while hanging out with lead singer Michael Glabicki and Jenn Wertz in high school. Hearing the two of them sing with Mike playing his guitar have always been powerful and great memories to me.

Fast forward to this past Thursday, with half my face bandaged and swollen from my surgery, I felt the need to get to the Root show and see and hear Mike and his bandmates play their rhythmic, tribal and powerful hymns to help me heal and more so “feel good”. And it worked!! For those two hours, I felt like everyone else and my pain truly disappeared. I also never once felt the big bandages that covered half my face.  For that, I thank this great group of musicians and individuals.

With THAT out of the way. Rusted Root once again OUT performed themselves the last time I shot them. Having just seen them back in early April at Jergal’s Rhythm House in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh, I had an idea what tonight’s show was going to be like. But boy was I wrong. Tonight’s show at Pittsburgh Station Square was truly a completely different show. The setlist was different, the atmosphere was different and the melodies that tie their songs from one to the other were different too. I can never keep count, but tonight Root’s Liz Berlin played like 309 different instruments. Sometimes two or three at the same time. Her ability to do this amazes me more and more each show I see Rusted Root. Vocals are not up for discussion. Her vocals are tops amongst female vocalists. She is like a chameleon. She can sing and harmonize with anyone doing anything.

Michael and his bands mates hit the stage exactly at 9 pm to a huge crowd outside in the steady rain at Pittsburgh’s Station Square.  The rain held off till the band decided to hit the stage and then it baptized everyone there from start to finish. The opening song ironically was Rain. An incredible song and one that truly set the tone for the damp night. It however in no way made the crowd even think about heading for shelter. I think it may have been a sign for more onlookers to come join the Root Party just starting. The transition from Rain into VooDoo was great and unexpected. I never expected VooDoo early in the show but it was a nice change. Man, Not Machine followed and was as always powerful. The lyrics and music give me chills every time.  And like I said earlier, at this point Liz Berlin had used around 15 instruments to add to the already great melodies of the show. In reality, Liz had only used about 4 so far, but you get my point. She can do anything on a stage. And then some.

Glabicki and his bandmates blew through their set list keeping up with the increasing crowd size and continuing rain.  Glabicki’s vocals were unbelievably strong tonight. Rested strong. No strain or crackling at all. This would be the first show for Rusted Root on their latest mini-tour taking them through August.  Heading into the end of the show and subsequent three encores, Root played one of the band’s anthems and crowd favs X T C. In the ending part of the song following the last chorus, Mike’s vocals sounding like a steam engine coming back into the station at Pittsburgh’s Station Square. He left zero notes on the stage so to say closing out the set. X T C was a great ending for the show and really set up what would be a great three song encore. Before X T C, Root ran through more crowd favorites such a Monkey Pants and David Bowie’s Rebel, Rebel, a Root regular lately on their set list history.

Glabicki came out for a solo moment to kick off their encores that transitioned into Scattered which showed just how truly gifted Glabicki is on this guitar. Fast and so smooth. So very rhythmic and soulful. The rest of his band mates joined Glabicki for another crowd favorite; Send Me On My Way, a song that put Rusted Root on the map both nationally and internationally back in the early 1990’s. Glabicki fed off the crowd’s energy for the song and vice versa for the crowd off Glabicki. Berlin’s vocals were awesome too on Send Me. The other highlight of the song was guitarist Dirk Miler providing the flute end and obviously very important part of the band’s anthem. A really great way to wind down for the night. Closing out the night, was the powerful Back To The Earth. What can you say? Yet another feather in the band’s cap and for me the third or fourth exclamation mark for tonight’s concert.

The show tonight was as always great. I enjoy getting out to shoot Rusted Root and talk to Mike however short or long it may be.  The band sounds like they have some more new material to play and possibly release down the road. Two possibilities that any Root faithful should be happy to hear. Root plays June 30th in Portage County Ohio and in Sherman New York to kick off July.  The band will play the Red Rock’s in Colorado for the 4th of July. That’s a show I would not want to miss.

LAGO: Phoenix-Based Death Metal Legion Signs With Unique Leader Records – Unique Leader Records is proud to announce the signing of Phoenix, Arizona-based death metal quartet, LAGO, for the release of the band’s impending second LP. Issues LAGO of their new album which is currently under construction, “With this record, we are really trying to step outside of the box that we’ve created for ourselves. Our previous stuff is very heavily influenced by Morbid Angel and Emperor, and though those influences are still very heavy in our sound, we really want to make sure we just aren’t going to put out the same record as our last one, Tyranny.  A lot of the new stuff we’re doing is exclusively two-part guitar. We wouldn’t go and call this a prog record, but in terms of what’s going on within the songs themselves I would say the guitar work is a lot busier. Lyrically, I think you can expect a lot of similarities. Our country is a crazy place right now with the political climate and a seemingly divided population. There’s a lot of vile, and disgusting things happening, and I think that will reflect in the writing and really set the tone for the album.” [MORE…]

POISON BLOOD: Black Metal Duo Featuring Members of Krieg and Horseback Announce Debut EP; New Song “The Scourge And The Gestalt” Streaming – Newly formed black metal duo POISON BLOOD has signed to Relapse Records for the release of their debut, self-titled EP. POISON BLOOD is a collaboration between Jenks Miller (Horseback) and Neill Jameson (Krieg) born out of Miller’s desire to write music that was an outlet for a more straightforward kind of aggression. The two musicians came together as fans of each other’s work, a mutual appreciation for Beherit’s classic Drawing Down The Moon LP, and the experimental deathrock of cult UK act Rudimentary Peni. Although they have yet to meet in person, the project was crystallized with the contribution of Jameson’s vocals. Across eight songs and nineteen+ minutes with explorations into deathrock, dungeon synth, and the occult, POISON BLOOD‘s eponymous debut EP is a short but furious chronicle of cold, reptilian sonic terror shrouded in album art by Viral Graphics. KHOST: Governance Album By Birmingham, UK Industrial Metal Outfit Out NOW On Cold Spring Records – Stream and share KHOST’s Governance album at THIS LOCATION. One of the most terrifying, brutal albums to see release this year, Governance, by Birmingham, UK-based industrial metal duo, KHOST, is now available through Cold Spring Records. KHOST‘s Governance is like driving at night with your spirituality asleep at the wheel. Continuing the band’s immersion in themes of detachment and dissonance, the album was written and recorded during the Winter of 2016-17, a time of great unease and sickness for the band which nearly resulted in the death of one member. A hinterland of low resolution transmissions interspersed with broad concrete columns of distortion that loom suddenly from the dim landscape which devastates the listener with nearly fifty minutes of entrancing yet hazardous tectonic doom-laced revulsion. FIVE HORSE JOHNSON Streams “Smoke Show” At New Noise Magazine; Jake Leg Boogie Release Day Nears – …hard, heavy, dirty blues rock ‘n’ roll for people who like the sound of an engine roaring or the feeling obtained by following a cold beer with a shot of good whiskey….
Toledo blues riff machine FIVE HORSE JOHNSON will drop the gritty fruits of their Jake Leg Boogie full-length upon the masses later this month. In advance of its release, today New Noise Magazine is streaming “Smoke Show” at THIS LOCATION. Issues Eric Oblander [vocals/harp], “‘Smoke Show’ is the type of greasy pork chop of a tune that we made our bones with. It’s a simple recipe: start with one sloppy relentless harp riff – that harp part was actually originally a scratch track but [guitarist] Brad [Coffin] made me keep it in and I’m glad he did – next, have the rest of the band jump in at the right time with thumpin’ bass, slide guitars, and sick beats like a sledgehammer, and finally yell about booze and/or women. Voila! Another FIVE HORSE JOHNSON classic is born! [MORE…]

Following in the smoldering wake of the band’s 2015-issued Dying Gods extended EP, ALL OUT WAR arises with arguably the band’s most crushing material to date with their sixth official album, Give Us Extinction. With more than forty-two minutes of unchecked aggression, the new album sees vocalist Mike Score’s scornful accusations at mankind strike with more venomous intensity than ever. The monstrous grooves and slamming breakdowns executed by drummer Jesse Sutherland, bassist Erik Carrillo, and guitarists Taras Apuzzo and Andy Pietroloungo leave craters of scorched earth in their wake with a monolithic NYHC-fueled mandate, while searing elements of thrash metal blaze forth from the wreckage. The album furiously delivers eleven original tracks, and the band pays homage to New York punk/crust icons Nausea with a cover of the band’s “Cybergod.” [MORE…]
