ANNOUNCES CO-HEADLINE TOUR WITH TORRES & SUPPORT TOUR WITH THAO & THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN

RIPELY PINE OUT NOW ON BA DA BING

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (aka 23 year-old Maine-bred, Brooklyn-based Aly Spaltro) kicks off her spring East Coast and Midwest tour in support of debut album, Ripely Pine, this week. She’ll play guitar and sing, and will be joined by labelmate Xenia Rubinos (keys), plus Marco Buccelli(drums), and TJ Metcalfe (bass). Then, she heads directly overseas for a run of solo dates withNeko Case, and shortly following, straight into her first West Coast/Southwest tour in support ofRipely Pine. She’ll co-headline with Torres out west and then do a support tour with Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is wonderful on record, but to truly understand what this special young musician is all about, we highly recommend her live show!  She is a commanding and powerful performer. The live presentation of her songs is unhinged and unadorned as she fiercely plays her guitar and sings cinematic lyrics, careening from hums to screams within seconds with melodies that run rampant, all the while maintaining artistic-control.

WHAT’S BEEN SAID ABOUT LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER:

“what Ripely Pine has that much comparable rousing-but-empty country-tinged trad rock doesn’t have is raw, credulous fire. The best songs here are all nearly seven minutes long, but their erratic structures make compelling stages to watch dueling tirades of emotion swarm around one another. Spaltro wields ferocity and timidity equally well, to the extent that it’s hard to tell which is her more frightening mode.” — Pitchfork

“Anyone who has ever seen and heard Aly Spaltro on a stage can testify to her powers as a live performer. As Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, she is the unsettling combination of ferocious and tender, the kind of singer who veers from serene to unhinged within a turn of phrase.” —Boston Globe

“marked by both vulnerability and sprightly vigor.”

— NPR Music [Heavy Rotation: 5 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing]

“Amidst songs full of melodic, folk-tinged pop, Spaltro’s fiery growl catches you off-guard and shows the range of musicality the young performer possesses” — PAPER

“Lady Lamb the Beekeper has created an indie rock ‘Pet Sounds.'” — Boston Herald

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper Shares “The Nothing Pt II” Video & Announces Tour/Fri. May 17 – Pittsburgh@ Garfield Artworks

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (aka 23 year-old Maine-bred, Brooklyn-based Aly Spaltro) released her debut full-length album, Ripely Pine, last week via Ba Da Bing Records. Presenting cinematic lyrics over complex structures with melodies running rampant, plus the intensity and confidence she portrays on stage, this debut album is a pure representation of Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. Following record release shows in New York, Boston and Portland, Lady Lamb (guitar/vocals) and band — labelmate Xenia Rubinos (keys), Marco Buccelli (drums), and TJ Metcalfe (bass) — will be touring the Midwest and Northeast in May.

In the meantime, get a further feel for Lady Lamb the Beekeeper and her continuous interest in all things pie via the new video for “The Nothing Pt II,” directed by Portland filmmaker David Meiklejohn and premiered this morning via SPIN. In the video, a mysterious person wearing a fencing outfit kidnaps people and brings them to a dark dungeon. Upon waking, the prisoners find themselves bound to a table with a pie in front of each of them, awaiting their uncertain fate, when the rogue fencer appears once again.

PRAISE FOR RIPELY PINE:
“Lady Lamb the Beekeper has created an indie rock ‘Pet Sounds.'” — Boston Herald

“‘Bird Balloons”’ transformative powers are totally undeniable; the six-minute song wrenches its way through about eight different movements, bolting and reeling like the Tom Verlaine-produced Jeff Buckley record, Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk, guitars seething like Helium’s ‘Superball’, violin marauding like Dirty Three’s Warren Ellis playing siren to lost ships on a stormy night.” — Pitchfork

“There’s an endearing theatricality at work in her songwriting, with mad breathlessness giving way to oases of calm . . . ” — Village Voice

“Anyone who has ever seen and heard Aly Spaltro on a stage can testify to her powers as a live performer. As Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, she is the unsettling combination of ferocious and tender, the kind of singer who veers from serene to unhinged within a turn of phrase.” — Boston Globe

“Plenty of albums mine youthful angst; far fewer offer any answers. Spaltro pleads and howls her way to the crux of the matter, finds her own way out, and leaves a poetic map behind for the rest of us.” — Consequence of Sound

STREAM LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER’S RIPELY PINE

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is 23-year old Maine-bred, Brooklyn-based Aly Spaltro. After building a following in Portland, ME, Boston and New York, Lady Lamb is introducing herself to the rest of the world. Next week, Ba Da Bing releases her debut album, Ripely Pine, but you can hear it early right now via WNYC Soundcheck’s “Check Ahead” series. Give a listen to Lady Lamb’s cinematic lyrics over complex structures, and you as well will find it hard to believe this is a musician who only started teaching herself guitar five years ago in between shifts at a video rental store.

Live, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper’s performances are unhinged and unadorned – she plays fierce guitar and sings, careening from hums to screams within seconds with melodies that run rampant, all the while maintaining artistic-control. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper Announces Debut Album

LISTEN TO/SHARE LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPERS’ “ROOFTOP”:
http://soundcloud.com/badabingrecords/rooftop/

More than anything, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (aka Aly Spaltro) has 20,000 second-hand DVDs to thank for her first album. Despite being recorded at a proper studio in her recently adopted home of Brooklyn, Ripely Pine showcases songs conceived during her tenure at Bart’s & Greg’s DVD Explosion in Brunswick, Maine. Little did customers know, the same store they’d drop off their Transformers movies was providing the ideal four-year cocoon for the development of a major musical talent.

During those nightly creative spells after working her shift, Spaltro’s music brought raw expressions of her lyrical thoughts. Anger, confusion, love, happiness, and sadness reigned, and the songs ran rampant, with little form or structure. Isolated for those many hours, this is how she taught herself to write music and sing. She had only two outlets for giving out her music: Bart & Greg’s and a record store next door, so she gave herself a band name. She would arrange her CDs on the counters of these two shops as free offerings, and seeing how she was often the employee at the register, didn’t tell people it was her music.

In a live setting, her performances were unhinged, as melodies followed an internal logic only apparent to Spaltro herself. She played guitar and sang, careening from hums to screams within seconds, but always maintaining self-control. That’s how Lady Lamb the Beekeeper became one of the most beloved performers in Portland and Brooklyn.

At 23, with five years of writing music and self recording her own demos, she ventured to the next milestone – recording an album. She wrote everything. All the songs, all the arrangements. Keeping the songs’ stark rawness, the record is a pure representation of her sound.

Ripely Pine shouts the introduction of a new talent from every groove. Here, finally, are recordings of Lady Lamb the Beekeeper that come as close as possible to conveying the intense majestry of her live shows. And, much like her performances live, a narrative breathes through the record’s progression. The album opens with urgency and anger, settles into reconciliation and reciprocation, and ultimately reaches towards resolution, realizing infatuation leads to a loss of self; instead, embracing one’s own strengths is the most powerful thing of all.

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper’s debut album, Ripely Pine, is out February 19th on Ba Da Bing! Records.
