The Roar - Band Pic hi res

Corona, CA based Rock Band has released the official music video for their cover of the 1985 BRYAN ADAMS hit single, “Heaven.” Off of their new LP, Ninja Kitties, “Heaven” was filmed at Musicians Performance Studios, Inc..

“I became interested in covering ‘Heaven’ by Adams in the 90s when I noticed that many melodic punk bands covered his song ‘Summer of 69’. I wanted to do a different song, and I always thought Heaven would sound better in a faster tempo with heavier guitars. The song is nostalgic for 80s love songs. It reminds us of the innocence of love and hope. Maybe a trip into the past is what we need…, albeit reimagined.” – THE ROAR

TAUK ANNOUNCES NEW MIDWEST TOUR DATES/PGH Date September 7

New Album Homunculus Out Now! http://bit.ly/iTunesTauk

1077

“Tauk is an incredibly impressive ensemble of talent.

The four-piece band carries an incredible groove that meshes jazz and funk with a fresh pop sound.” – Relix Magazine

“Often compared to established jam bands like Phish and Lotus – but with a feel all their own for deep groove – the quartet has a rare ability to channel emotional melodic leads, and all without a lead singer.” – The Deli Magazine

“A young and guaranteed to quickly-ascend band” – JamBase

NEW YORK, NY – July 18, 2013 – The rock/fusion quartet TAUK announces today they will hit the road this August and September to play select cities in the Midwest to support of their latest LP, Homunculus, released April 30th. TAUK will play in St.Louis, Missouri; Columbia, Missouri; Urbana, Illinois; Chicago, Illinois; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and more to be announced soon.  The NYC group joined forces with Grammy-Winning Producer Robert Carranza (Mars Volta, Jack Johnson) to craft their first entirely instrumental full-length album. For tickets and more information on the new album, visit: www.taukband.com.

TAUK’s unique experimental blend of instrumental funk, jazz, pop, and rock landed the band spots on last summer’s biggest festivals such as BonnarooTheHangout Music FestivalSummer Camp Music Festival and The Allman Brother’s Peach Fest and opening gigs for moe.Robert Randolph & the Family BandPerpetual GrooveO.A.R.311Tea Leaf Green and Toubab Krewe. Check out TAUK performing their unique rendition of The Beatles classic “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” for Indaba Music: http://bit.ly/TAUKindaba

TAUK is Matt Jalbert (Guitar), Charlie Dolan (Bass), Alric “A.C.” Carter (Keyboard-Organ), and Isaac Teel (Drums). Forming in middle school, a majority of TAUK’s members have been playing together for over a decade. The group experimented with their sound throughout the years both individually while studying at top music universities and conservatories, and together as a band – always working to find their ideal sound. It wasn’t until 2012 with the addition of drummer,Isaac Teel, and the realization the band could build a fan base around a completely instrumental act, that the pieces fell into place for HomunculusJalbertexplains, “This band has been through a lot, but we hit a point last year where it just felt like things were coming together the way they were supposed to. We really wanted this new album to be a statement as to what TAUK is all about.”

With the new album’s psychedelic title, Homunculus, TAUK aims to leave the interpretation of both the title and the music up to the listener. “Being an instrumental band leaves a lot of our music up to being interpreted in different ways,” explains Jalbert.

TAUK manages to create a live show experience to match their masterfully produced recordings.  The unique chemistry and relaxed-focus of Tauk’s performance is undeniable, but their ability to create immensely melodic and emotional music without a vocal lead is what continues to captivate and impress music lovers across all genres. The future is continuing to look bright for this talented and ambitious quartet.

Hiatus Kaiyote Announces US Tour + Debut Album

“BAND TO WATCH: They could serve as the soundtrack to pretty much anything”

– Stereogum

Melbourne’s internationally acclaimed “future soul” band HIATUS KAIYOTE announces their US tour kicking off in Las Vegas on July 25th including stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Miami and others. In addition to headlining club dates they will open up for Erykah Baduand D’Angelo in Columbia, MD and Detroit, MI and for Shuggie Otis in New York City at Central Park’s Summerstage.

A new version of the band’s debut album Tawk Tomahawk, featuring Q-Tip, will be available digitally on July 16 and physically on July 30 via Sony Masterworks’ new imprint Flying Buddah.

In little under two years, the band has gained legions of fans from all over the world including highly-respected artists like Questlove, Flying Lotus and Erykah Badu, plus tastemakers and audiophiles like London-based DJ Gilles Peterson, Stereogum and KCRW. The band attracts such a diverse following because the music doesn’t fit within the boundaries of a single genre. Each track is like a key ingredient in the listening experience that adds to a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, electronic, opera, rock and soul.

“Music has always been medication to us,” lead singer Nai Palm explains. “It’s a force for self-healing that we’re ready to share with the world.” Through a musical symbiosis, the band has created its own lane and Tawk Tomahawk showcases the breadth of their talent and love for music lyric by lyric, beat by beat.

There’s live music somewhere in the neighborhood almost every night of the week. Kermit Ruffins’ “We Partyin’ Traditional Style!”

We_Partyin_Traditional_Style_Cover_1764x1764

An authentic New Orleans Bar-B-Q slinging trumpeter and vocalist through and through, Kermit Ruffins brings us back to the early 20th century with his latest oeuvre, We Partyin’ Traditional Style! out today via Basin Street Records.

An intriguing collection of traditional and New Orleans jazz classics, We Partyin’ Traditional Style! gives a rare glimpse of the influences that inspired Ruffins while a youthful street busker working toward international celebrity.

On this album, Ruffins pulls classics from the 20th century like fedoras from his collection and puts them through the good-times grinder both reinventing and honoring the tradition of music ever present in his beloved Big Easy. He doesn’t do it alone, either. Ruffins hand-picked the finest in traditional jazz to form a deeply rooted band: Shannon Powell (drums), Steve Pistorius (piano), Richard Moten (bass), Don Vappie (banjo),Lucien Barbarin (trombone), and Tom Fischer (clarinet). Mykia Jovan joins Kermit for a delightful duet on the Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons hit “All Of Me.”

While the songs may be old, their production by multi-grammy winner Tracey Freeman(Harry Connick, Jr., Rebirth Brass Band) guarantees that they’ll sound exquisite.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of timeless classics like “Careless Love” and “I Guess I’ll Get the Papers and Go Home.” Then lace up your tap shoes, grab a dancing partner, and try to keep your balance while you Charleston to “Jeepers Creepers.” The dancing shifts to a waltz with “Over The Waves,” the Juventino Rosas classic. Ruffins reveals he has his own taste for the timeless with his original “Treme Second Line”rounding out the center of the album. A traditional jazz album would not be complete without a hat-tip to the most important figure of the era, Louis Armstrong. Ruffins boasts his own raspy voice and pays tribute to one of his biggest idols with “When It’s Sleepy Time Down South,” a song frequently regarded as Satchmo’s own theme song.We Partyin’ Traditional Style! triumphantly closes with the immemorial “When the Saints Go Marching In,” a song that needs no introduction and a recording that will undoubtedly have people around the world second-lining in the streets.

Kermit Ruffins gracefully channels the glory of the roaring 20s and opens a door to a rich history of musical heritage for all who will listen. But if you ask him, he’ll probably just tell you,

“We Partyin’!”

Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s “That’s It!” Produced by Jim James and Ben Jaffe Out July 9th

July 9th On Legacy Recordings

First Original Music Recorded in 50 Years

Produced by Jim James and Ben Jaffe

Listen and Share First Single “Dear Lord (Give Me The Strength)”

Watch Jim James and Preservation Hall Jazz Band In the Making of That’s It! HERE

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in 1961 to promote traditional New Orleans jazz in all its authenticity. Legendary players like George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine, all rooted in the formative years jazz, were its original stars. That generation is long gone now, yet the hall is still in business and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues to tour the world.

Therein lies a paradox: how does an institution based on an early 20th century musical culture prosper in the 21st? When asked that question on the occasion of the Hall’s 50thanniversary, Creative Director Ben Jaffe had a ready answer: “This anniversary is about the next fifty years.”

It is in this spirit that Preservation Hall Jazz Band is delighted to announce the release of their new album That’s It! on July 9th via Legacy Recordings the band’s first album of original music in its entire fifty year history.

That’s It! was produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Ben Jaffe and recorded at The Preservation Hall.  As these are all brand-new compositions, band members Ben Jaffe, Charlie Gabriel, Rickie Monie and Clint Maedgen wrote for the album and collaborated with Paul Williams, Dan Wilson and Chris Stapleton on several songs. And record fans should make note: The LP version of That’s It! will be pressed on 180 gram vinyl and includes a full size poster.

That’s It! is an eclectic album that draws on the collective experience of players nurtured in the New Orleans tradition but determined to build something fresh and exciting on that foundation. For his part, producer Jim James is convinced that the PHJB has a future as vibrant as its past: “The music will speak forever,” James says. “Will people stop listening to Beethoven? Will people stop listening to Bob Dylan? Will people stop listening to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band?”

Not if Ben Jaffe can help it. “My parents were never preservationists in any strict sense,” he says. “They simply presented the music the way the old jazzmen wanted to play it. This is the music we want to play today. We’ll continue to do the old standards, along with new material that allows us to be creative and relevant. With this album, I wanted to do something that would challenge us and make us proud.”

Another exciting new challenge for PHJB is the making of the music video for their first original title track, “That’s It!” In a partnership with Genero.tv, fan filmmakers now have the opportunity to create a music video for the song. Submissions close June 12th, and all the details are available at Genero.tv/preservationhall.

CINEMA SLEEP to Release Make Your Way EP March 19th

CINEMA SLEEP is redefining rock and roll, recording music that creates a balance between traditional heavy rock with melodic elements twisted with an occasional pop blend. The five musicians that form CINEMA SLEEP include Brady Reis, lead vocals, Alex Asch, lead guitar and keyboards, Robert McDonald, rhythm guitar, Ryan Meyers, bass guitar and Kevin Vincent, drums, have a stellar resume, quite an accomplishment, considering the bands average age is only 22. Each individually accomplished, their personal music styles and backgrounds bring a blend of Jazz, rock and pop. The members had played collectively in other bands and had huge followings, which made the creation of CINEMA SLEEP an exciting transition for their fans.

Produced by platinum record award winner, Kris Crummett, their debut album has been awaited by fans and critics alike and has been well received, being played on radio stations, even before it premiers .

The new EP titled, Make Your Way reflects the bands personal growth. Still maintaining a sound that made them popular with previous projects, this album takes the music to a whole new level with a more mature sound. Alex Asch who composes most of the music draws from his jazz training to “write the prettiest music he possibly can”. Lyricist, Brady Reis, “draws inspiration from personal experiences as well as his interpretation of today’s society.” The music coupled with the precision of this group of professional musicians creates magic.

Ultraviolet Hippopotamus w/Dopapod @ Rex Theater Feb. 8

Ultraviolet Hippopotamus is an explosive five-piece progressive improvisational band with a rapidly growing fan base across the U.S. and Europe. Described as “brightening the future of the jam band scene,” Ultraviolet Hippopotamus mixes tight, funky jams with new dance beats, heartfelt lyrics, compelling composition, eccentric effects and a vibrant light show for an incredible, one-of-a-kind musical experience. Known for its on-stage musical alchemy – cultivated from years of relentless touring – the band performs an eclectic selection of technically demanding compositions and improvised material along with unconventional and fun covers.

The band recently joined the rooster at Hoplite where founding partners Tom Baggott and Chris Cate have presided over the foundational career development of Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Railroad Earth, Ryan Montbleau Band, Zach Deputy and many other smaller artists. Through time spent at other agencies or in other roles ranging from artist management, tour management, production, marketing and management over the last 20+ years, they also participated in the career growth of Agents of Good Roots, Johnny Winter, Michelle Shocked, The Radiators, Tim Reynolds, Victor Wooten and many more. The band is now being managed and booked by the agency which has already led to bigger and better touring opportunities.

Ultraviolet Hippopotamus also just spent time in the studio recording a new concept EP, Broomhilda Suite, which they released to fans at its Halloween 2012 show. It is now available for purchase at shows and online for just $5. Broomhilda Suite is the band’s latest studio effort featuring an epic story of the hero Kanyon and his journey to defeat a mean, old witch Broomhilda. The band is extremely proud of the work and can’t wait to release a full-length studio album later this year.

The group deftly journeys between funk, jazz, livetronica, space rock, reggae, bluegrass, and progressive rock within a single show and, sometimes, within a single song. Exploring new ground and taking risks make every performance unique, and fans are never sure what exactly the band will deliver each night; other than exceptional music.

Anyone remotely familiar with the ‘jam band sound’ will immediately recognize Ultraviolet Hippopotamus’ influences and genre-mixing musical objectives, but the band adds a level of talent, intricacy and polish that truly sets it apart. Tight, energetic jams and outstanding vocals — a true rarity among the band’s peers — coupled with the act’s spontaneity and strong songwriting add to its appeal. The word is out, and the band is quickly developing into an international sensation.

Ultraviolet Hippopotamus’ highly praised third album, “Square Pegs, Round Holes,” reached No. 3 and spent much of the year in the top 25 of the Relix Magazine/Jambands.com National Radio Chart and was voted “2011 Studio Album of the Year” at the Home Grown Music Network. It also received similar nominations from several radio programs, among other acclaim. The album continues to sell steadily and receives airplay across the U.S. as well as internationally in Italy, Brazil, France, Switzerland, England, Spain, Germany and other countries.

Dopapod
Dopapod exists at the crossroads of full throttle intensity, deep pocket groove, intricate technicality, and limitless experimentation. With no regard towards limiting themselves to stylistic boundaries, the sound that emerges from the quartet both live and in the studio is as varied and diverse as the many influences that they adapt from.

Winslow’s unique blend of soul, funk, rock and jazz has been described as a musical breath of fresh air. This sound, combined with the group’s polished and passionate live show has led them to sharing the stage with such major acts as Incubus, Earth Wind & Fire, OAR, Robert Randolph, Keane, Lupe Fiasco, Rusted Root, and many more.

Maurice Martin, vocalist for Winslow, explains how the band’s four years of growth and changes has led them to creating Left of the Right Direction. “We have grown a lot since our first album. I feel like our songwriting really has come a long way. We aren’t trying to fit into a mold of a certain genre or style. Our real goal was to create an album that we could be proud of. Call it pop. Call it soul. As long as people listen, they can call it what they will.”

Winslow is Maurice Martin (vocals), Matt Tieman (saxophone), Curtis Tate (keyboard), Charlie Trenta (guitar), Danny Kolliner (bass), and Jesse Marquardt (drums). Each member of the band has a background studying diverse styles of music and it comes through in the music. Subsequently, all of Winslow’s tracks can be heard as their own individual vignettes, highlighting one distinct part of the group’s musical background. Martin’s hooks and signature vocal style serve as the bond that ties the songs together and make the album cohesive.

Winslow will release Left of the Right Direction on March 26th. Please head to http://www.winslowsoul.com for more updates.

Ahleuchatistas to Tour with Buke & Gase in Support of Heads Full of Poison

With a moniker that screams “enigma,” Asheville, North Carolina instrumental rock duo Ahleuchatistas belong to the beyond-category sector of such iconic, genre-flouting combos as John Zorn’s Naked City, Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Swans, Tortoise, and Sun City Girls. The duo of Shane Perlowin (guitar and bass) and Ryan Oslance (drums) combine wicked precision with intense abandon, droll humor with analytical construction, and a sly gregariousness with uncompromising vision. This pair interweaves elements of punk rock, jazz, classical music, speed metal, grindcore, progressive rock, noise, folk musics from Asia and North Africa, electronic music, and ambient aesthetics, along with volatile, unpredictable improvisation, flowing organically in a virtual world of their own. Cerebral but never ponderous, Ahleuchatistas make immediate music that reaches for the mind, heart, and gut.

Ahleuchatistas kick off a tour of North America supporting Buke & Gase in support of their seventh album, Heads Full of Poison, out now on CD/digital via Cuneiform Records and as a double LP on Harvest Records. On stage and throughout the album, Perlowin and Oslance perform with a rare unity of purpose, without any self-indulgence or water-treading, displaying a virtually orchestral palette.

FOCUS ALBUM TO SEE NORTH AMERICAN RELEASE FEBRUARY 5

Four Worlds Media USA today confirms February 5 as the North American release date for X, the new album from Dutch progressive rockers FOCUS. Featuring cover art by Roger Dean (Yes), the album was produced by the band with a running time just shy of 60 minutes. It is the first new material from the four-piece in six years.

Largely instrumental, X (pronounced Ten)expands on the band’s traditional base. Jazz, middle eastern, acoustic/adult contemporary and more find their way into the compositions making the album a true must listen for long-time as well new fans. Prog-Sphere says, “FOCUS do not disappoint.” “An album that provides an atmosphere of warm, calm elegance in a way that has become pretty rare,” notes AllMusic.com. DPRP.com adds, “fans of FOCUS should not hesitate and embrace this album.” The North American release follows the successful launch of the album overseas; the band currently wrapping up a tour supporting the album’s initial European release.

FOCUS is regarded as one of the most influential and successful rock bands from The Netherlands. Founded by keyboardist/flutist Thijs van Leer in 1969, the band have two certified gold recordings in the US spurred on by hits “Hocus Pocus,” “House of the King,” and “Sylvia.” Thijs van Leer comments, “it is a thrill to have finally completed FOCUS X. We are all ecstatic about the new material. Our music is evolution, not revolution.”

A renewed interest in FOCUS launched a few years back when Nike included the band’s music in a commercial for the 2010 World Cup; a piece directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (noted for his directorial work on major motion pictures 21 Grams and Babel). In addition, guitarist Gary Hoey re-recorded the band’s “Hocus Pocus;” a recording that rocketed into Billboards’ Top 5.

The talented songstress caught the attention of fans and critics in 2012 for her astounding tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston. One of Sheléa’s biggest supporters, Stevie Wonder, was instrumental in booking her for a performance this past May at the White House for President and Michelle Obama honoring composers Burt Bacharach and Hal David with the Gershwin Prize.

Sheléa has lent her stellar vocals to various soundtrack projects including Hotel Rwanda, Akeelah and the Bee and Be Cool. The title track off her 2013 debut album Love Fell On Me was chosen as the musical theme for the film Jumping the Broom (Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Mike Epps) and features the iconic Stevie Wonder who adds his signature, lyrical harmonica licks to the track. Sheléa also wrote and produced two songs on Chanté Moore’s last album, Love the Woman, including the album’s single “It Ain’t Supposed to Be This Way.”

The stunning depth of Sheléa’s talent will be revealed with the release of her debut album, Love Fell On Me in early 2013. The album encompasses a classic blend of soul, R&B, and jazz, and captures the true essence of romance reminiscent of the greats Natalie Cole and Anita Baker. The lead single, “Seeing You,” showcases Sheléa’s vocal range and features actor Christian Keyes in the official music video.
