Garbage Shares Music Video for New Single “No Horses”

Garbage today shared a music video for their new single “No Horses”. Directed by Pancake Mountain creator Scott Stuckey, the politically charged clip can be seen HERE. “No Horses” was released last month and is available now HERE. All of the band’s profits from sales and streaming of the single will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018.
“It’s been my observation that when governments disregard their citizens for their own greed, the ensuing soundtrack usually kick’s ass. Like Nina Simone’s ‘Mississippi Goddam’ or the Clash’s ‘Straight To Hell’, ‘No Horses’ made me realize that I’m not going insane, these really are fucked up times. The lyrics are powerful so the challenge was to add something visually that wouldn’t ruin the individual’s interpretation,” offered director Scott Stuckey on the video’s inspiration.
Earlier this summer, Garbage released their autobiographical coffee table book, THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE via Akashic Books. The book includes never before seen photographs of the band as well as pieces written by each of the four band members. THIS IS THE NOISE THAT KEEPS ME AWAKE can be purchased HERE

Both bands along with an opening slot from Sky Ferreira played to a crowd of 17,000 fans last month, selling out LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Support for additional Rage & Rapture tour dates will be provided by John Doe & Exene Cervenka followed by Deap Vally. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be foundHERE.

Jay Z’s Pittsburgh Performance is Priceless

Would it surprise anyone that a non-rap fan would risk bitter cold temps, running a 101+ temp of his own, and downing some extra special codeine enhanced cough meds to suppress the bronchitis tackling his immune system would risk his general health just to see the music mogul called Jay-Z?  I mean, c’mon, we are talking one of the biggest acts out there today, one of the ‘household namers’ , the mover, the shaker, Mr. Beyoncé, Mr. Beats headphones, “99 Problems” Guy, and yet ticket sales are one? Only roughly 7500 Pittsburghers pre-bought tickets.  Huh?  I don’t even like this type of music and I am out here half dead to see this guy and you aren’t? What gives?

This is Mr. Shawn Carter’s first solo tour in four years, promoting his 12th studio release, “Magna Carta … Holy Grail”.  Creative director Timbaland was on hand commanding the keys/beats and well, creatively directing.  The stage set was truly visually  impressive, at least structurally, a geometric build that was somewhat old-school in it’s inception.  Jay Z hit the stage with “U Don’t Know” and “Crown” and stayed very much in the ‘Magna Carta’ vein for the first half of the show. Being that “Magna Carta … Holy Grail” is up for nine nominations at the Grammy Awards, and Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé are performing Jan. 26 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, maybe that’s the point.

But, it didn’t take long for the old faves and the stuff that made him legend to roll out the goods such as “99 Problems”, “Dead Presidents II”, “Big Pimpin'”, Jigga What, Jigga Who”, “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”, “Empire State of Mind”, “Izzo”, “Hard Knock Life” and “Young Forever” which was dedicated to Nelson Mandela.  If the lack of a crowd was any bother to Mr. Carter, it did not show, he was smiles from the beginning to the end and looked like he was having a blast.  There are many reasons that the man is who he is, and has the rep he does.  He lives up to every one of those expectations and puts on a hell of a show without the need for tons of bells and whistles.
Maybe much of Pittsburgh was not willing to shell out a few dollar,s or brave the cold, or whatever their excuse was to miss the man they call Jigga.  What they missed was an experience to see someone who is a master at his craft perform…which is for many a music fan, priceless.

LIONS LIONS premiere their cover of Jay Z and Justin Timberlake’s hit “Holy Grail”

Boston’s Post-Hardcore LIONS LIONS recently recorded their own version of the Jay Z and Justin Timberlake collaboration, “Holy Grail.”  The band had this to say about their version…

“We are big fans of Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. When they collaborated on a track, it was the perfect opportunity to cover their combined talent. Unfortunately, due to Jay-Z’s excessive use of the “N” word, we decided to only record Timberlake’s parts. Lions Lions saying the “N word would be like Doogie Howser saying the “N” word and we simply can not have any such weirdness.” – Brandon Davis (Lions Lions).

International DJ Baby Yu touring w/ Young Jeezy in Pittsburgh 6/23/13 (interview)

baby yu 1
Demanded internationally, DJ Baby Yu is one of North America’s most experienced, versatile well respected and highly connected DJ’s. Baby Yu is without a doubt a staple in the entertainment industry world wide. Determined and passionate, he consistently delivers and works along side chief industry leaders.  Layered with many talents, DJ Baby Yu is a prominent international DJ, an exclusive radio show host, and a producer.   Over the years Baby Yu has been at the top of the nightclub scene in Toronto, spinning at a wide range of clubs, lounges and patios which caught the attention of promoters and club owners around the world.  In mid 2008, Baby Yu re-located to Atlanta, Georgia after receiving an offer to be the resident DJ for the ultra-trendy Velvet Room.Top artists around the world have also noticed Baby Yu’s talent and have used his talents to leverage their performance while on the tour.  Baby Yu has been the opening tour DJ for Juelz Santana, 112, Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, The Game; and also has been the top pick to DJ concert after parties for Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Fat Joe, Pharrell, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Akon, Chris Brown, Diddy, Rick Ross, Trey Songz, DJ Khaled, Cassie, Black Eyed Peas, Drake, Georges St- Pierre, Allen Iverson, Lebron James, and more. Expanding to his international appeal, Baby Yu has also worked alongside with K-Pop Artists: The Wonder Girls, Crown J and 2PM.
Pittsburgh Music Magazine caught up with DJ Baby Yu before his appearance here in Pittsburgh at Soldiers and Sailors on June 23rd with Young Jeezy…
As a DJ, radio show host, and producer, can you describe a “typical” day in the life of DJ Baby Yu?

–  Sometimes I dream of having a Baby Yu duplicate.  Usually my day consists of waking up sometime in the afternoon, and straight to the DJ studio to prep for my5PM show with Big Tigger on V-103 FM.  After my show, I usually hit the gym and stay for around an hour and a half.  Later, I’ll put in some production time until I have to go DJ at the club.  When I get home from the club I prerecord my 7 AM morning show for Ryan Cameron on V-103 FM.  After this I usually hit the studio again and see if I can make some beats before I go to bed.  I try and eat between everything as well.

You have had some amazing guest opening spots and done some incredible private gigs as a DJ.  Can you relate at least one mind blowing experience or encounter?
– DJ Jazzy Jeff invited me to DJ his 40th Birthday in Philly, where I played nothing but soul, funk and 80‘s music.  It was so much fun.  Also in 2006, I DJ’d for Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Rihanna during Caribana Festival in Toronto, Canada.  To do a Rocafella medley for them felt like I was DJing at their concert.  Most recently, Kanye West flew me down to one of his concerts during the “Watch The Throne” Tour, to discuss how the concert could be improved.  It was an interesting 2 hour conversation.
When people hear your art, what is it that you want them left with?
–  Positivity, motivation, and inspiration.
Where are your favorite places to DJ?
–  Tokyo, Japan – Manila, Phillippines – Vancouver, Canada – Toronto, Canada to name a few.
What place or where in the world would you most like to host as a DJ, but have not done so yet?
–  Dubai, Rio De Janeiro  and Moscow.  That would be so dope.
Who are the artists that have had the most influence on what you do?
–  Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Jodeci, Notorious BIG, Bell Biv Devoe.
What was it like collaborating with DJ Swivel in Sato Goldschlag? And who came up with the concept for the Mr. Mister video ?
–  It’s an amazing run.  Swivel is very talented, and has learned from the best.  Working around Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Diddy to name a few, he is a grammy winning engineer, so to work with someone that has so much experience in the music work only motivates me to work harder.
The video was an idea by Aaron our video director.  We were both happy with the originality of the video.  (See below for the video)
What are your immediate goals in the business and where would you like to see yourself in five years?
–  Producing; making music is my immediate and long term goal.  I want to continue DJing around the world, on V-103 FM, supporting Young Jeezy as his DJ, and take Sato Goldschlag to an international level.
Along with his weekly club residencies- Baby Yu can be heard on Atlanta’s hottest radio station V-103 (WVEE- V103 FM “The Peoples Station”)
Monday- Friday at 5:00pm on the Ryan Cameron show and Saturday’s from 12pm-1pmEST with his “Midday Motivation Mix Show”. Baby Yu
also continues to do his syndicated radio shows, tuned in by thousands around the globe.

WNYC “Check Ahead” Reveals Full Album Stream,
National US Tour Kicks Off Next Week

“impossibly catchy”  NPR

“ …a perfectly eerie throwback piece of indie pop.” – NYLON

“ …full of charming, winsome (but not too winsome) indiepop that will appeal to fans of Camera Obscura and The Rosebuds.” – BrooklynVegan

“ …brings listeners back to the heyday of bossa nova and lounge tunes, while adding its own electronica flair.” – MAGNET

Radiation City will release their highly anticipated sophomore studio album Animals In The Median, May 21, 2013 via Tender Loving Empire. Effortlessly blending vintage soul with modern electronic sounds, the full album is streaming exclusively with WNYC “Check Ahead all week.

It was only natural that the Portland quintet would team up with TxE’s G_Force, who they met on a Portland basketball court, to remix the entire album. Watch a mini-documentary about how the project came to be. Aptly titled A Different Animal, the genre-bending collaboration will be released on June 18 and features Radiation City hooks combined with others. The final effort distorts the original samples until they’re almost unrecognizable set to a backdrop of pounding 808s. The collaborating emcees come from all corners of the US hip hop scene. Notables include everyone from Academy Award-winning Juicy J & underground hip hop heavy weights Strong Arm Steady to Chicago’s trumpeteering R&B dark horse Sam Trump & Oregonian duo Sandpeople’s Sapient.

The band has revealed the first A Different Animal single today. Check out the“Zombies” (G_Force Remix f. TxE) MP3 where it premiered with Jay-Z’s Life+Times orHERE.

Take audiences on a journey through time, Radiation City kicks off a national tour this month. The band has shared stages with Pickwick, Caveman, YACHT, The Walkmen, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and more. Be sure to catch the band’s entrancing live show on tour!
