FINAL 2013 U.S. TOUR IN SUPPORT OF YOU’RE NOTHING KICKS OFF NEXT WEEK

“Iceage write brilliant songs; on You’re Nothing, they’ve found a way to clarify these compositional skills without stripping away their power . . . New Brigade was: ‘brittle’ in an excellently fuzzed, rancid way, but You’re Nothing is a heftier experience.”

— Pitchfork [BEST NEW MUSIC]

You’re Nothingthe sophomore album by Iceage released earlier this year on Matador Records, proved the Danish group’s growth and strength as songwriters. As described by the New York Times, Iceage “only improved on its formula of turbulent and disaffected poetry . . . reaching toward new ambitions.” Knowing what they’re capable of in creating their own material, check out what they can do with that of other’s via their covers ofSinead O’Connor’s “Jackie” and Bahumutsi Drama Group’s “To The Comrades.”  ComeNovember 19th, both of these songs will be available for purchase as a physical and digital 7″. Additionally, Matador will release a digital-only deluxe version of You’re Nothingfeaturing the album, covers and 1 b-side.  In the meantime, those in NYC and select cities on the west coast, be sure to check out Iceage live next week as they play their final U.S. shows of 2013 in support of You’re Nothing.

LISTEN TO ICEAGE’S NEW ALBUM, YOU’RE NOTHING (OUT FEB. 19 ON MATDOR), VIA PITCHFORK ADVANCE

You’re Nothing, the sophomore album by Copenhagen’s Iceage and first on Matador, presents 4 young men – Jakob Tvilling Pless (bass), Dan Kjær Nielsen (drums), Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (vocals/guitar), and Johan Suurballe Wieth (guitar) – adding to the anxiety and tension that made their debut album, New Brigade, so compelling. But now, just over 2 years later, they’re challenging their raging emotions instead of simply expressing them. This is the sound of a band pushing their singular mix of punk, Goth, hardcore, and post-punk to even further extremes without any compromises. It’s overwhelming how many ways Iceage has found to write the short aggressive rock song, and exciting to contemplate where they could be three years from now at the age of 23. Stream Iceage’s You’re Nothing now in its entirety via Pitchfork Advance, and catch the band live all over North America this spring.

STREAM ICEAGE’ S YOU’RE NOTHING –
http://pitchfork.com/advance/27-youre-nothing/

“louder and looser than thy were on 2011’s New Brigade, but frighteningly more focused”
– Pitchfork [Best New Track]

“The hoarse uplift of New Brigade’s most civilian-friendly fist raisers returns, but with an upgraded arsenal’s laser-guided precision. Clamoring drum breaks and shoegaze-warped guitar fills bolster the band’s now-familiar breakneck assault, which still might leave you out of breath.” – SPIN

“[Iceage’s] follow-up, You’re Nothing, is much more dense and complex. Most songs still clock in under three minutes, but there’s a new sense heaviness to their music-a sort of adult exhaustion that throws direct emotion out the window in favor of complex self-deprecation and ragged yowls.” – The FADER

Get a further feel for You’re Nothing via the album’s opening track, “Ecstasy.” The video, below, was directed by Catherine Pattinama Coleman and filmed in Copenhagen. Additionally, “Ecstasy, “Coalition,” and exclusive b-side “A Rifle” will also appear on an Escho 7″, out February 5th, and available via import in limited quantity at the Matador Store now.

“Iceage have always been anthemic, but ‘Coalition’ showcases them at peak velocity: showy drum fills, windmilling guitar chords, and Elias Ronnenfelt’s vocals taking on an emotive wail rather than a blank bark.” – Pitchfork [Best New Track]

“The drums are pummeling so fast that they constantly trip over themselves; the guitar lines bend in and out of dissonance so drunklenly that they sound like the product of charmed, accidental slippage. But what really makes this track feel like pure, unadulterated id is Elias Ronnenfelt’s scream-sung delivery. . . ” – The FADER

As previously mentioned, Iceage are in New York this week playing two pre-release shows, including “Thrown Together” – a special event on Sat. Jan. 26 at Home Sweet Home and the Fig 19 gallery upstairs, featuring performances and visuals by Iceage as well as their peers, inspirations, and more. The 200 attendees will receive one-of-a-kind handprinted tickets. Gallery doors open at 6pm. Full details available here.

Iceage Announce Spring Tour in Support of You’re Nothing

Iceage’s sophomore album, You’re Nothing, is out February 19th on Matador. We’ve already told you a bit about this forthcoming record from the Copenhagen four-piece, and today we have some audio evidence to back up any effusive claims we have or will be making about this outstanding record. “Coalition,” which you can listen to below, is merely one of the many overwhelming ways Iceage have found to write the short aggressive rock song.

Prior to You’re Nothing’s release, Iceage will make a brief trip to NYC where they’ll be playing the aforementioned show at 285 Kent. Additionally, on Saturday, January 26th at Manhattan’s Home Sweet Home and the Fig 19 gallery upstairs, there will be a very special event entitled “Thrown Together,” featuring performances and visuals by Iceage as well as their peers, inspirations, collaborators and friends. Finally, come March and April, Iceage will return to the states for their first nationwide tour in support of You’re Nothing.
