CODE ORANGE SHARE ADULT SWIM SINGLE “ONLY ONE WAY”

https://as-embed-player.adultswim.com/singles/2017/?trackid=9c887212-b042-4cce-a173-dec00fe7b9c3

Code Orange have shared “Only One Way,” which is streaming today via Adult Swim’s Singles Series.  Recorded with producer Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA, “Only One Way” is the first new music from the band since the release of their widely acclaimed LPFOREVER, which earned Code Orange a Grammy nomination and topped several “Best of 2017” lists including: Rolling Stone’s “20 Best Metal Albums of 2017,” Revolver’s “20 Best Albums of 2017,” and The Independent’s “Top 20 Rock & Metal Albums of 2017.”

Code Orange commented on the new track explaining, “We wanted to write a song that felt like something structurally sound and melodic, being chewed up and spit out by a machine; our machine.”   The band added, “We plan to release material on a more regular basis in an attempt to break down rock and metal’s formulaic pattern of long breaks between outputs. This means we must work twice as hard, so we will. The hurt will go on. The end will never come…”

Code Orange will be embarking on a UK Tour starting in April (full dates here).

TWO-DAY AND SINGLE-DAY GENERAL ADMISSION AND VIP FESTIVAL PASSES ON SALE NOW AT THRIVALFESTIVAL.COM

The Thrival Innovation + Music Festival celebrates its fifth year by elevating
both its music and innovation elements to new heights.
On September 27-28, Thrival Innovation tackles Pittsburgh’s emergence as a hub for artificial intelligence and
automation (think: driveless cars and more) with its theme “Intelligence: Humans X Tech” — featuring 50+
speakers and a dozen custom programs, welcoming experts from around the U.S., representing Fortune 500s,
tech giants, startups, and more.
Thrival’s two-day outdoor live music experience once again brings a distinctive blend of 19 national and local
artists to unorthodox ‘venues.” Thrival Music headliners include Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Carnage, GRiZ, Two Door
Cinema Club and over a dozen more acts to perform at the historic Carrie Furnaces on September 29-30.
Two-day and single-day general admission and VIP festival passes are on sale now at thrivalfestival.com.
Grammy-nominated recording artist, Wiz Khalifa, will make his only 2017 hometown appearance in Pittsburgh
after an extensive festival run across the country and through parts of Europe.
Stepping outside of the music realm, Wiz Khalifa will also step into the entrepreneurial spotlight, speaking
alongside other keynote participants at Thrival Innovation’s marquee event at the Carnegie Museum of Art on
Thursday, September 28.
Right on the heels of Pennsylvania’s legalization of medical marijuana, Wiz Khalifa will share the stage with
Marc Ruxin, CEO of Landseye – Privateer, and John Battelle, founding editor of WIRED Magazine to discuss
“High Road” — a talk on the economy and culture of marijuana, as well as the Taylor Gang’s entrepreneurial
ventures.
“Virtually everyone is familiar with Wiz Khalifa the artist, but both Wiz and the Taylor Gang are entrepreneurs
building successful and dynamic ventures outside of music. Their voice is important to not just promote our
innovation economy, but to demonstrate major success stories coming out of Pittsburgh and the Rust Belt,”
says Dan Law, director of Thrival and Vice President of Business Development at Ascender.
Tickets for the Thrival-Carnegie Museum of Art event are only $15 and on sale at
thrivalfestival.com.
Following Thrival Innovation, Thrival Music kicks off Friday, Sept 29 with headliner Logic who’s “1-800-273-
8255” scored #1 song in the country just last week with the moving lyrics and awareness of the suicide
prevention network. Watch Logic’s MTV VMA performance from earlier this month that captivated audiences
across America.

Gearing up for Thrival Innovation + Music Festival headliner Wiz Khalifa will take the field at PNC Park on
Wednesday, Sept 27 to throw the first pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates last home game of the season vs
Baltimore Orioles. Game time is set for 7:05pm tickets can be purchased here.

TONIGHT! The Fame Riot & Radkey @Brillobox

fame-riot-photoTHE FAME RIOT

THE FAME RIOT is fashionable avant-garde, gender-fluid duo consisting of two fabulous, over the top brothers in their early 20s who live and breathe music and fashion. Raised by minister parents, the brothers were introduced to music from a spiritual perspective and being drawn to secular music, which they would listen to in secret, the two made the music that they longed to hear. Influenced by four decades of rock, pop, electronica, disco, and everything in-between, Liz Scarlett and Shazam “Tea Time” Watkins are what you would expect if you bottled up the fun and energy of raging summer parties, and threw in some flippant Hollywood glam.

The group has performed on KEXP, played Bumbershoot, and shared the stage with Chromeo, Grouplove, Mickey Avalon, DJ Shadow, and more. The duo recently performed a stripped down version of their single “Heart Stray” on Revolt TV’s program “Sounds By The Sound,” and were featured on RedBull.com where legendary Seattle DJ Marco Collins is quoted saying The Fame Riot has, “one of the catchiest pop records I’ve heard in years.” As best described by Galo Magazine, “There’s no denying that if the ’80s and ’90s had a love child, it would be this posse of so-called ‘ freeks ,’ who sport women’s clothing just as well, if not better, than the legendary frontman of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler.”

Composed of three biological brothers barely in their 20’s– Dee Radke (23) on guitar/vocals, Isiaiah Radke III (21) on radkey3bass/vocals, and Solomon Radke (19) on drums– Radkey is a high energy, punk rock phenomenon. Growing up on their music-obsessed dad (and now road manager)’s vinyl collection, the brothers cut their teeth as pre-teens, playing their first show opening for Fishbone in 2011… and haven’t looked back since. Radkey has played with Rise AgainstThe BronxRed FangTouche AmoreAgainst Me!, and more, and have performed at music festivals all over the world including Coachella (USA), Reading and Leads Festival (UK), Download Festival (UK), Riot Fest (USA),

AfroPunk Festival (USA)

and Punkspring Festival (Japan).

independent label in North America, Atlanta power trio WHORES. is coming to Pittsburgh.

 Details:
Dec 07 – Spirit Lounge w/ Red Fang and Torche Pittsburgh, PA
Since their inception in 2010, Whores. has laid waste to both presumption and audial functioning. Natives of Atlanta, Georgia, members Christian Lembach(vocals/guitars), Donnie Adkinson (drums), and Casey Maxwell (bass) have spent the last six years establishing Whores. as one of heavy music’s most distinctive acts thanks to the formidable combination of the group’s punk ethos and the ferocity of their sound. Confrontational and relentless, the music of Whores. will now be seen and heard in its fully formed state with the groups debut full-length.

Beginning with 2011’s Ruiner EP (Brutal Panda), Whores. brought a welcomed new vision to the often-tired “extreme music” scene. Two years later saw the release of the Clean. EP (Brutal Panda), a six-track musical display of visceral anchor and songwriting brilliance. Highly anticipated by critics and fans alike,Clean. sold out within a month, prompting the group to release a second pressing. Touted by SPIN as one of 2013’s ‘Best Metal Albums’, Clean. simply reaffirmed what listeners had suspected all along. Whores. isn’t here to fuck around.
With the 2014 release of the Whores./Rabbits split (Brutal Panda) which included the group’s powerful cover of The Cure’s “Jumping Someone Else’sTrain”, the expectation for a full-length became even more apparent, but pushing product isn’t the group’s line of work. For Whores., the cavalcade of anticipation provides no pressure or expectation as Lembach states: “We done just want to fill in the blanks.” The only pressure here is to maintain authenticity, and to that end, Whores. are the quintessential example of genuine malice.
“You have to bring a sense of realness to [the music], otherwise it’s fake, and it sounds fake. You have to be honest about it, and it’s about getting to the really ugly stuff inside of you, and that’s what we do.” Whores. has eagerly shared that ugliness with their audience having crisscrossed the US four times on separate tours, including headlining shows and stops at festivals like SXSW, SpilloverFest, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and much more. To that end, the band’s tireless dedication to the road is simply a mirrored image of their music’s relentless power, an attribute that has undoubtedly resulted in their most unforgiving effort yet, proof that good and heavy things come to those who wait.

Concert Coverage: Anti-Flag “Rock Against the TPP” road show @MrSmalls in Millvale

Pittsburgh’s own politically active punk band Anti-Flag brought the “Rock Against the TPP” road show to Mr. Smalls in Millvale Thursday night. The Rock Against the TPP Tour is being organized by Fight for the Future along with Firebrand Records, the new social justice infused record label co-founded by Tom Morello and Ryan Harvey, acting as the tour’s artistic partner. The road show is sponsored and co-organized by a diverse coalition of groups fighting against the corporate power grab that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. According to the tour press release, “The TPP has little to do with trade, but instead grants multinational corporations extraordinary new powers to threaten jobs, the environment, affordable medicine, free speech, and food safety.” The Rock Against the TPP tour brings together a broad coalition of supporters including digital rights groups, labor unions, environmental groups, and small businesses to mobilize opposition to what is viewed as a dangerous, anti-democratic deal. “

Jon Bon Jovi got a little help from his friend when President Bill Clinton made a guest appearance during a free “Get Out The Vote” concert in Pittsburgh Thursday night at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. There wasn’t a duet, but they each took a moment to address campaign issues in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter played a short setlist starting with “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Lost Highway,” and an acoustic cover of The Beatle’s “Here Comes the Sun.” The Clinton campaign is having Bon Jovi perform at another similar event in Tampa, Florida on Nov. 5, the day after the release of their thirteenth studio album, “This House is Not For Sale.”

BIO:

Isn’t it funny when you have enough distance to look back and realize there was one accidental meeting, one look exchanged, one conversation shared which set in motion a chain of events that changed your life forever? It’s hardly a revelatory sentence—after all, whole films, artworks and albums have crystallized these kinds of coincidences and their knock-on effects. Transviolet’s forthcoming full length is not one of those records, but the sequence of events that brought them to the point of a) creating a collection of songs together and b) for those songs to then be released, can be attributed to talent and chemistry, sure, but some divine happenstance too.

For instance, several years ago Transviolet singer Sarah McTaggart’s mom was seated next to a celebrity hairdresser on a flight. The pair got talking and being the proud parent, Sarah’s mom ended up bending his ear about her daughter’s band. When she hopped off the flight she insisted Sarah reach out to him via Twitter. “I was like, stop bothering this poor man, he was nice enough to talk to you on the plane, I don’t think he really wants to hear our music!” Sarah laughs. “But she kept asking until I finally sent him some of our stuff.” And you can bet he liked what he heard—so much so in fact, that when dining with a record exec friend later that week, said hairdresser mentioned Transviolet. After one listen the exec was hooked, insisting that they speak with Sarah that very night.

“They called me at 10.30 PM and I was in my PJs and I thought someone was pranking me because the guy on the other line was like, ‘We want to sign you, we want to do a showcase,” she recalls, still somewhat incredulous. “I got off the phone stunned. It was super freaking crazy: they called that night and we were signed and moving to LA a month later.” All because someone chose an aisle seat (probably).

But this wasn’t the only moment that a twist of chance altered the course their path: their origin story is equally serendipitous. Thanks to her father’s job as an entrepreneur, Sarah’s family lead a nomadic existence. She spent her childhood bouncing from place to place before settling in Grand Cayman, where her father’s family hailed from originally. A Caribbean island surrounded by crystal cerulean water sounds like paradise, but removed from her friends and the “normal” high school existence, Sarah felt isolated. Although she arrived late to artists like The Beatles, Nirvana, Bob Dylan and Radiohead—“those timeless songwriters whose music really seems to transcend time and space”—it was at this point in her life that these artists really resonated.

“I clung to that kind of music because I moved around a lot as a kid and didn’t really fit in or I got sick of trying to fit in,” she explains. “So I’d escape by listening to songs like ‘Across the Universe’ or ‘Lithium’ or ‘Creep’—these artists, they get me. I became obsessed with lyrics and songwriting and that’s when I knew it was what I wanted to do.”

It was around this time that Sarah picked up the guitar. She cut her teeth playing open mic nights on the island, eventually uploading her material to a site designed to bring musicians together. And here’s where the other random split second decision triggered a crucial set of events: instead of listing her whereabouts as the Caymans, Sarah wrote San Diego on her profile. She’d set her sights on the SoCal city and it turned out to be something of self-fulfilling prophecy because when multi-instrumentalist Michael Panek logged on to search for a female vocalist, he narrowed his search to his area in—you guessed it—San Diego. A sucker for “90s jams” there was something in Sarah’s songs that appealed to this leaning. “Her lyrical style reminded me of Death Cab For Cutie,” explains the Rochester, NY native. But more than that it was her innate sense of melody that reeled him in.

“There’s a lot of good singers out there who can write crappy lyrics and get by,” he explains. “But there was something about her that had substance, it was a real visceral connection.” Despite the fact that Sarah immediately admitted she wasn’t based in San Diego, the pair quickly forged a musical partnership: Michael would email his music and Sarah would apply her words and melodies. She introduced him to Alt-J; he played her Sigur Ros. This was at the top of 2011 and by the end of it she’d uprooted her life and moved to San Diego. Was it a shock to meet each other in person for the first time after the intimacy of long distance songwriting?

“Luckily in those emails we were both pretty honest about who we were,” says Michael. “She was exactly who I thought she was going to be—except she was a lot shorter. I think the first thing I said to her when I hugged her was like, ‘Oh you’re so small!’”

It wasn’t long after the airplane-Twitter-phone call exchange that the duo upped sticks and moved to LA. Once there, Transviolet truly solidified thanks to the addition of Michael’s high school buddies and former bandmates, drummer Jonathan Garcia and guitarist Judah McCarthy. What followed was an incredibly fertile period: they signed to Epic and penned some 60-odd songs which were eventually whittled to a svelte debut album scheduled to drop next year.

But it was the quartet’s first song, which they popped online in the summer of 2015, that announced Transviolet’s arrival and really whet appetites for more. “Girls Your Age” is a bewitching slip of a song with Sarah’s voice at once recalling the Lana, Lorde and Imogen Heap: sultry, measured, assured. The song gained instant online traction. People clicked play and clicked play again. Katy Perry praised the lyrics, Harry Styles tweeted his support, Ellie Goulding selected it for a spin on Beats1 and Twin Shadow delivered an exclusive remix. “Girls Your Age” soon became a bonafide viral sensation with over a million plays on Spotify alone. Unflinchingly personal, it was also an apt introduction to the band. “It was my coming of age story, I wanted to put something out there that was raw, it wasn’t trying to be anything, it was just a true account of how I felt growing up and the turmoil that surrounded that,” states Sarah. “You’re trying to figure out who you are and at the same time the world is telling you feel this and be that and want this and you’re caught in the crossfire.”

Their four song eponymous EP (released this past September) further underscores what’s in store. “Bloodstream” is a straight up toxic love tune, while “Night Vision” expresses the flip of this. Elsewhere “New Bohemia” is unabashedly anthemic, but the lyrics are anything but throwaway. “I feel like every individual has the power to change the world, we decide on a daily basis what our world looks like and every decision we make effects our reality,” explains Sarah of the song’s message. “I wanted to write a song that inspired people to speak up and take action and to take responsibility for our generation and take a stand for something that you believe in.”

“For all of us it’s more than just the music,” Michael concurs. “We think it’s important to spread positive messages and have a nice effect on the world around us.” While Michael describes Sarah and him as yin and yang—her lyrics and melodies, his beats and arrangements—the addition of Jon and Judah should also not be underestimated. Sarah credits them as being essential to the development of their sound, which they’re now honing live on their first ever tour (they made their stage debut back in September 2015). The foursome are a tight unit and it works. “There are no divas, we all look at each other as equals and there’s no such thing as stupid ideas,” affirms Sarah. “I think that safety is what allows us to feel so free in the writing process because no matter what, the other three people are always going to back you up. Those stupid ideas are what sometimes lead to the brilliant ideas.”

Fate may have leant a helping hand, but Transviolet don’t need luck to take this to the next level.
