Deepfall drops their latest album, Broken, via Pavement Entertainment. Broken is available on CD through Pavement’s Online Store and on streaming platforms everywhere.

Rich Hopkins, the vocalist of Deepfall, says on Broken, “My favorite song performance wise from the new album would have to be ‘Ghost.’ It’s a fairly deep song for me, and playing it on stage is a bit of a rollercoaster ride.” He also appreciates seeing the different reactions fans have to Deepfall’s music. “Everyone who listens to our music can incorporate their own circumstances to each song. It’s amazing to see what our fans take away from it.”

Deepfall conjures an enveloping storm of carefully crafted hard rock that strikes the soul with stinging honesty. Masterfully capturing thematic darkness, the band leaves a sonic trail of scorched post-apocalyptic earth behind its musical machine, blazing a path through the heaviness of life with an equally heavy response.

DEEPFALL conjures an enveloping storm of carefully crafted hard rock that strikes the soul with stinging honesty.

Cutting to the bone with soaring instrumental passages, spirited choruses, and precisely placed breakdowns, the band thrives in the expanse of rock ’n’ roll’s vast sub-genres.

Masterfully capturing thematic darkness, the band leaves a sonic trail of scorched post-apocalyptic earth behind its musical machine, blazing a path through the heaviness of life with an equally heavy response.
Situated in Greenville, Michigan, the group’s current lineup, which began to take shape in 2015, is comprised of Rich Hopkins (vocals/guitar), Nick Gray (drums), Tim King (keyboards), Anthony Battista (lead guitar 1), Max Carrillo (lead guitar 2), and Taylor Brandt (bass).

In a short time, DEEPFALL has carved its place in the American rock scene with broad, muscular soundscapes forged in the studio and resurrected onstage. The band’s latest release, Broken, employs a signature brand of soulful songwriting rounded out by an unapologetic combination of surging guitars, rattling bass, mesmerizing keyboards, heavy drums and Hopkins’ roaring lead vocals.

Behind the veil of these ferocious soundscapes, DEEPFALL emerges as an outfit of determined musicians with a deep love for their craft and a hope to connect with listeners through engaging story-driven rock.

DEEPFALL has supported national acts such as HinderSOiLTantricSmile Empty SoulSaving AbelThe Iron Maidens, Texas Hippie Coalition, and Wayland, while having performed at venues such as The IntersectionThe Stache, and The Music Factory. The band continues to play regionally, write new music, and keep its collective foot pressed down on the gas pedal towards endless possibility.

Watch Part One of Noisey’s New “Documentary” About Ghost

This is for some of our PMM friends who missed it!

Noisey have released the first episode of their new (September), Greg Olliver-directed series about Ghost, the cleverly titled Papaganda. Actually, that title tells you a LOT about the “documentary.” It is, on the one hand, surprisingly revealing about the members of Ghost (it’s weird to hear the supposedly-real, not-at-all intimidating voice of one of the Nameless Ghouls), and on the other hand, clearly not-at-all revealing about the members of Ghost. For example, we get to see an interview with the man who is allegedly Papa Emeritus II (“The Olde One” of the episode’s title) without his make-up… but he himself is wearing make-up that looks like a superior version of Ryan Gosling’s rubber mask from the movie Drive:

The “Ghost Burger” causing controversy in Chicago

In a story reported by http://www.nbcchicago.com Kumas Corner is now serving a burger in honor of metal band Ghost (B.C.).  The burger comes served with a red wine reduction and topped with a controversial unconsecrated Communion wafer.

In a Facebook post, the Chicago restaurant’s owner and operations director said they “in no way created this as a commentary on religion or as an attack on anyone’s personal beliefs.”

“In standing with our policy of supporting charity and Chicago at large, we have made a $1,500 donation to the Catholic Charities of the Chicago Archdiocese as we understand that they share our mentality of serving anyone in need from any walk of life,” the Facebook post continues.

Kuma’s is known for naming burgers after heavy metal bands, and restaurant officials said this creation is named after a metal band from Sweden called “Ghost B.C.”

Kristine Kappel, a spokeswoman for the charity, said Kuma’s never contacted them about the donation or the burger itself. The online donation was made over the weekend and showed up Monday, Kappel said, but Catholic Charities said they will not accept.

“The Eucharist is a central part of the Catholic faith and we strongly urge Kuma’s Corner to discontinue selling a burger that disrespects that faith and the faith of all Christians,” Kappel said, noting the money should return to Kuma’s account in a couple days.

Kuma’s said it does not plan to stop selling the burger and the owners wrote on Facebook they hope the public will familiarize themselves with the band for which “The Ghost” is named.

Ghost B.C. Give Supernatural Performance in Pittsburgh

Ghost B.C. seem to have risen from the ashes of all the so called “Satan” worshiping metal bands that have come before them only to phoenix above  to huge sales and fandom.  One may question how a band dressed as ghouls reminiscent of ancient monks with a leader mocking the Pope as a skeleton, complete with pointy mitre and all, have accomplished such feats.  Maybe it was the star studded endorsements by the likes of James Hetfield and Phil Anselmo. Possibly it was the great opening spots on tours with the likes of In Flames and Mastodon.  Or maybe its the anonymity of Papa Emeritus II and his Ghouls and their selective press that just leave us wanting more.  But, beyond the brilliance of the gimmickry of it all, the music still has to hold weight;  and the tunes hold tons.

Their newest effort, Infestissumam, is rife stock with the anti-religious anthems and ‘Satan worshiping’ calls just like their first CD (Opus Eponymous).  But when one is at their show, arms raised and singing along to songs such as “Year Zero” (‘Hell Satan, Archangelo Hell Satan, Welcome year zero’), it could easily be misinterpreted that one has stumbled into a black coven ready to slay some goats and sacrifice some kids.  But what really is going on (at least I think so) is some great tongue in cheek humor about the whole thing- religion, hell, heaven, Satan, metal, worship, fanaticism, God, mysticism, whatever. The performance is not unlike a Faustian play or a Poe recital.  It’s macabre and ghastly, but by no means is it serious Satanism.

The musicianship of each of the nameless (but marked by a symbol) ghouls is very evident.  Impossibly difficult to really pinpoint into a genre, the music is  not quite metal, not quite synth-rock, not exactly the descriptions of Blue Oyster Cult/Mercyful Fate/Black Sabbath that they have been labeled by rock critics; these showman put on a production without having the budget of KISS, nor do they need it.  It seemed like every person in the 750 plus sold out crowd at Mr. Smalls knew every word as they sang along, shouting “PAPA” at the top their lungs, as he shook hands, spoke in a fake Italian accent, and even curtailed some of his language due to some very, very young audience members brought to witness the spectacle by their parents.

The vast improvements with their costumes from the last time we witnessed these Swedish spectres stateside (Stage AE in Pittsburgh) is amazing and money well spent (and the prompting for Papa Emeritus to don the II in his moniker).  While I really did miss the fake stained glass windows with church like atmosphere (though we did not quite need it in Pittsburgh since Mr. Smalls used to be a church!) and the burning of the incense in their routine from last time, the overall act was masterful and left much of us wanting for more.  That is the key ingredient that Ghost B.C. has found that many performers miss; give us a little mystery, a little coquettish toying and we will clamor for more.  Unfortunately for those that missed the performance, by the time you will have read this, Ghost B.C. will have given their last stateside performance at Rock on the Range in Columbus and then head out to Italy to start a European tour.  Although they take their name from an apparition, this is a band that begs to be seen and heard, don’t miss them again, if you do, it may haunt you forever.

Highlights: “Year Zero”, “Secular Haze”, “Ritual”

Acoustic Dark Rockers ANCIENT VVISDOM to Release Deathlike/ Live at Mr Smalls Feb 1st

rom the dark corners of Austin, Texas, singer/songwriter Nathan Opposition, his brother Michael Jochum (electric guitar) and acoustic guitarist Justin “Ribs” Mason have been annihilating the underground rock scene under the moniker of ANCIENT VVISDOM. On February 5th, the acoustic dark rockers will release their sophomore album Deathlike, a follow-up to their 2011 critically acclaimed debut A Godlike Inferno. The mesmerizing new collection was recorded at Diamond Factory Studios in Austin and once again mixed and mastered by engineer/co-producer Jason Buntz (Jet, The Darkness,…Trail of Dead), along with partner and Enormous Door founder Jack Control. Deathlike is now streaming in full on TERRORIZER.COM.

Honing in on their archaic sound, ANCIENT VVISDOM stays true to their moniker by virtue of Deathlike’s rich acoustic tones and heavy electric guitars, as if chugging through an apocalyptic world. Their only hope lies in Opposition’s vocals – which, combined with the impassioned acoustic instrumentation, leaves listeners at the edge of their seat as they try to comprehend the depth of his haunting lyrics.

ANCIENT VVISDOM has confirmed a two-week tour alongside Royal Thunder, which will directly follow their trek supporting Enslaved on the upcoming “Winter Rites” tour. Additionally, the band will perform intimate acoustic sets at select local record stores along the way, including a recently confirmed appearance at Vacation Vinyl in Los Angeles. Full dates can be found listed below.

The band was last seen in the U.S. supporting GHOST and has also performed alongside Swans, Wino and Scott Kelly, as well as appearing at SXSW with EyeHateGod and Pentagram. “Bush are thrilled to be playing Rock On The Range with such great bands,” says Bush’s Gavin Rosdale.
“We look forward to seeing you all out there.”

“This massive lineup has scratched our seven-year itch!” says Gary Spivack, co-executive producer of the

on the second stage this year.”
