Moby Announces Single with Wayne Coyne, “The Perfect Life”

WATCH A TRAILER FOR “THE PERFECT LIFE” VIDEO

“THE PERFECT LIFE” REMIXES COMING FROM FUCK BUTTONS AND ANDREW WEATHERALL

Moby is one of the most innovative and individual forces in electronic and popular music today. He has sold over 20 million albums, headlined Glastonbury, and is back with arguably one of the best albums of his career, Innocents.

“The Perfect Life” is an epic electronic soul track, which showcases the collaborations album to dramatic effect. Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips joins Moby to deliver an uplifting and melodic anthem.

The much-anticipated video for the “The Perfect Life” was shot in L.A with Coyne and Moby dressed as Mariachis. The casting call was posted on Moby’s Facebook and included some very specific extras, “S&M gimp rhythmic gymnast”, “eight roller-skating ghosts”, “12 goth choir members”, “2 obese bearded bikers in red speedos”, “a punk rock brass brand” and “a drunk king: guy with beard age 35-50.”

The video will be premiered on September 3, details to be announced.

Watch the video trailer here: http://youtu.be/Ci3jMgVSCNc

Moby comments on the impromptu teaser:

“A few weeks ago Wayne and I spent the day making a video for ‘The Perfect Life’.  then at the end of the day we broke out an acoustic guitar and gathered all of the extras on a rooftop overlooking L.A and sang an unrehearsed, impromptu version of the song.  Please keep in mind we had no idea what we were doing.”

Moby comments on the collaboration with Coyne:

“Wayne Coyne and I ended up doing a duet on ‘The Perfect Life’: we sing the choruses together, and then go back and forth on the verses. Wayne and I first met in 1995, when The Flaming Lips and I were both opening up for a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ European tour. We became friends, shared a dressing room and the same bad craft services, and watched the Chili Peppers from the side of the stage. I thought of Wayne for this song because The Flaming Lips have evolved in this very open, celebratory band when they play live, and that was the perfect vibe for what I was imagining for ‘The Perfect Life.’ I texted Wayne and said, ‘Hey, I have a song – want to sing on it?’ Thirty seconds later, he texted me back: ‘Yes, send it to me, it will be great.”

Innocents is a record of firsts for Moby. The first time in his career he worked with an outside producer, friend Mark “Spike” Stent, whose résumé includes Madonna, U2, Muse, Björk, and Massive Attack. In addition, this is the first time Moby has concentrated an entire album on collaborations which as well asWayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips) features alt-rock legend Mark LaneganCold SpecksSkylar Grey – best known for co-writing and performing on Eminem and Rihanna’s, “Love The Way You Lie;” indie-folk singer Damien Jurado, and Inyang Bassey who was the vocalist on “The Right Thing” from Destroyed.

Moby has announced only three live shows in support of Innocents at the Fonda Theatre, L.A on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Go here for tickets: http://moby.com/fonda

Jason Spaceman, Drozd and Wayne The Wizard Wield Magic At Stage AE

The night had its share of “Tobacco”. Through the humid haze in Pittsburgh, Tobacco, of Black Moth Super Rainbow, kicked off the night with a vocoder laced syncopated DJ set with “out of line” visuals that certainly got the attention of most all, at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE.  Even The Flaming Lips were amused by the tripped out performance as they stood stage left during most of Tobacco’s set. Reactions could be best described by looks of aghast, collective laughter and appreciation of the cutting edge performance.

We all were treated to a special set from Spiritualized. Jason “Spaceman” Pierce remained seated on the left side the stage and orchestrated his five piece band through a killer hour-long set . After the third song the “sound” of Spiritualized was locked in and they soared through staples like “Let It Flow” and “She Kissed Me”. It was great to have them back in Pittsburgh. They are truly one of the best British acts of our generation. Although Pierce was backed with solid players from the States. At the conclusion of their set I actually was thinking how are the Lips going to top that performance.

This night was all about guitarist-keyboardist, Steven Drozd the sonic wizard behind the enigmatic ever-changing band The Flaming Lips. Drozd has managed to sculpt the sound of the Lips over the past two decades. He provided the uptempo energy that their last studio release “The Terror” never really achieved. Stage AE seemed to be the setting they needed because this set was way better than the performance a few months back with The Black Keys at Consol Energy Center.  Wayne Coyne urged the Pittsburgh fan base to “get them through the melancholy moments”. The crowd obliged and fueled the set with appreciative cat calls and cheers. By the time they knocked “Race For The Prize” The Lips were following Steven Drozd through a digital rainbow of rhythmic synth and warm washed-out guitar. Coyne’s voice was solid on this night as he handled “At War with the Mystics”, “The W.A.N.D.” and “Do You Realize??” with relative ease.

The Flaming Lips continue to be one of the most innovative bands both musically and visually.  The question is “where do they go from here?” We actually have faith in them as long as Pittsburgh continues to be one of their frequent stops.

Flaming Lips Bring The Space Opera To Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center

“The promoter wanted me to tell everyone in the seats way up there that this building has an excellent ventilation system,” Wayne Coyne began to express to the Pittsburgh crowd, “and he said it’s okay that you guys smoke pot up there.”  Wayne Coyne is a funny dude, not in a comedic sense, although that comment sure got the tuned up Steel City audience in high gear for a night of melodic celebration.  Coyne is just well, ‘different’.

Coming out onto a high rise platform with snaked light up tubes wrapping around in some space ship Matrix 2001 Odessey love ship, taped up with aluminum and tubing reminiscent of pulsating organisms, Wayne literally clutched a baby doll for at least the first three and a half songs, often caressing it, sucking its toes and hands, as though it were a living child in his hands.  His outfit of metallic leather, silver metallic beads glued near his eyes, with the look of a blue bearded cross between Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan playing with toy trumpets and bellowing out for the crowd to make more noise from behind the thick smoke was like an alien presence before all.

Even if one were not truly familiar with the band that has been around since their hit in the nineties with, “She Don’t Use Jelly”, the surrounding light show, the atmosphere, the showmanship and the sheer magnitude of the presence that the band exudes combined with a musicianship that is rarely found in many popular groups is enough to keep most concert goers enthralled.  The Pittsburgh crowd appeared more like stunned.  With a true understanding of how integral the visual is with the visceral and the cerebral and the soulful much like in the vein of Pink Floyd, The Flaming Lips have that certain something that puts one into an otherworldly state without the use of chemical enhancement (although it may not hurt).  It’s surrealist art for your ears.  With any luck they will bring their space opera back to visit us again soon to explore their new effort “The Terror” further and Mr. Coyne can continue being ‘different’ because that’s what makes him and his band so exceptional and beautiful and confusing.  Babydolls, toy trumpets, and all.

Setlist: Look…The Sun Is Rising ,The Terror ,The W.A.N.D. ,Virgo Self-Esteem Broadcast ,Silver Trembling Hands ,Try to Explain ,One More Robot ,Sympathy 3000-21 ,“Heroes” (David Bowie cover,) Do You Realize?? , Always There, In Our Hearts

CHANT Music Video Blocked From YouTube

image

Band addresses YouTube’s selective censorship

YouTube has censored tribal-industrial drum project CHANT, removing the band’s extended music video for their track “Need” late last week.

The video-hosting super-website did not cite specific reasons for the ban, simply noting it had been “flagged as inappropriate”, and later removed after determining that “the video content was in violation of their Community Guidelines”.

CHANT joins Angelspit, Hirsute Pursuit, and other bands in the electronic-industrial genre that have been
censored by YouTube for their content. Bands such as Die Antwoord, Flaming Lips, Micronauts, and Lenny Kravitz continue to host sexually graphic videos and remain unbanned to this day.

“To quote Bill Hicks, ‘I almost forgot this was the USA… the United States of Advertising!'” says Bradley Bills of CHANT. “On one hand, I knew what I created was pushing limits – that it would invoke an emotional response and possibly make some people uncomfortable, but regardless of the subject matter: there’s no mistaking that the ‘Need’ video is an Art film and Art by nature needs no censorship. The video was set to the proper YouTube guidelines, viewable by mature audiences only, and if I were an established artist making coveted ad revenue for YouTube – this would not have been an issue.”
CHANT fans had the opportunity to own/view a copy of the ‘Need’ music video by purchasing a limited edition copy from the Band’s site, stored on a USB Thumb drive, along with physical props used in the actual video shoot – all of which have now sold out.

“I’ll take the ban as a compliment and find satisfaction knowing that copies of the ‘Need’ film are also in the hands of my Fans, and as with all Art it will find its way into the public forum again, no matter how many corporations try to censor and decide what we all should or should not have access to see,” says Bills.
Later this week, CHANT will re-host the extended, uncensored cut of “Need” to VIMEO.

ONO’s “Hold Me” Single Jumps Into Top Ten On Billboard’s Hot Dance/Club Play Chart

2013 marks a milestone year for ONO. The influential pop culture icon, outspoken activist and enduring avant-garde visionary celebrates her 80th birthday on February 18th. Her dynamic, uncompromising and, often controversial, career has spanned more than 5 decades and has seenONO expand from vilified outsider artist, socio-political revolutionary and progenitor of punk and New York’s famed Downtown art scene to now include global peace ambassador, philanthropic contributor to the arts and Billboard Dance chart-topping diva.

In the past decade, the boundless art-rock visionary has opened up her catalog of original works to be cleverly reinvented by a cherry-picked assemblage of dance, electronic and indie/alternative music innovators including PET SHOP BOYS, FLAMING LIPS, BASEMENT JAXX, DANNY TENAGLIA, PENGUIN PRISON, JUAN MACLEAN, FELIX DA HOUSECAT, PEACHES, ANTONY (of ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS), SPARKS, CSS, HANK SHOCKLEE, CAT POWER, JUNIOR BOYS, BIMBO JONES, and THE POLYPHONIC SPREE. To date, the groundbreaking remix series has spawned 9 #1 BILLBOARD HOT DANCE CLUB PLAY chart-topping hits including “TALKING TO THE UNIVERSE”, “MOVE ON FAST”, “WOULDNIT’ (I’M A STAR)”, “GIVE ME SOMETHING”, “I’M NOT GETTING ENOUGH”, “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE”, “NO NO NO”, “EVERYMAN / EVERYWOMAN” and the definitive anthem “WALKING ON THIN ICE”, as well as, 2 critically-acclaimed remix albums – YES, I’M A WITCH and OPEN YOUR BOX.

ONO kicks off the new year with a fiery new dance single,“HOLD ME” – a searing collaboration co-written and produced by EDM A-lister DAVE AUDÉ (whose discography includes remixes and productions for U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Depeche Mode, Coldplay and Pussycat Dolls, and an unprecedented 83 #1 Billboard Club Play Chart hits). The single finds ONO as vibrant and compelling as ever, continuing her streak of dance floor and club chart domination.

“HOLD ME” jumps into the top 10, at #9 with a bullet, in Billboard’s 3/23/13 issue (hitting news stands on 3/16/13), and will appear on the billboard.com web site on 3/14/13.

While her previous club hits have been star-studded reworkings of her classic material, “HOLD ME” is an entirely new song co-written by ONO and Dave, tailor-made for dance floors, and filled with her vivid lyrical imagery. Combined with Audé’s midas touch for solid, contemporary club anthems, the collaboration is an inspired one that sheds a new light on ONO and adds a strikingly new dimension to her illustrious career. Enlisted for remixes are Grammy Award-winning producer RALPHI ROSARIO, premiere Dutch DJ/producer R3HAB, sweltering progressive house collective PAPERCHA$ER, Spain’s IVAN GOMEZ & NACHO CHAPADO, Brazilian electro house/dubstep heavyweights DIRTY LOUD, electro nu-rave legend TOMMIE SUNSHINE and Boston-based wunderkind EMJAE (aka DJ/producer/remixer Matt Johnson of Nightriders and The Night Owl), all of whom deliver adrenalin-fueled bangers that keep the emotion and energy levels high. In addition to his original production, Audé himself also contributes to the collective of vibrant interpretations.

“HOLD ME” is available as digital green releases (no materials used or abused) on MIND TRAIN / TWISTEDRecords with the first set of mixes out now on iTunesand at all fine digital retailers.

ONO kicks off the new year with a fiery new dance single, “HOLD ME” – a searing collaboration co-written and produced by EDM A-lister DAVE AUDÉ (whose discography includes remixes and productions for U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Depeche Mode, Coldplay and Pussycat Dolls, and an unprecedented 83 #1 Billboard Club Play Chart hits). The single finds ONO as vibrant and compelling as ever, continuing her streak of dance floor and club chart domination.

“HOLD ME” is available as digital green releases (no materials used or abused) on MIND TRAIN / TWISTED Records with the first set of mixes out now on iTunes and at all fine digital retailers.
