SKELETONWITCH To Release Limited Edition Serpents Unleashed LP – Proceeds To Aid Animal Shelters

SKELETONWITCH will release a hand-screened, 180-gram limited vinyl edition of their acclaimed, Billboard-charting 2013 release, Serpents Unleashed, of which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to two animal shelters in the band’s home state of Ohio — The Athens County Humane Society and Columbus’ Pets Without Parents. The members of Ohio’s most-loved heavy metal group have always been proud pet owners and are excited to raise awareness and support for two no-kill organizations in their region.

Limited to a one-time-only pressing of 100 copies, the black LP includes a hand-screened, hand-numbered jacket with exclusive artwork and a hand-screened dust sleeve. It comes with a color poster and a sticker showcasing the album’s original masterful artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak), as well as a download card. Mark your calendars, as the limited-edition LPs will go on sale on a first-come, first-serve basis exclusively via http://www.skeletonwitch.com on Monday, January 20th at 1:00pm EST.

Praised for being their most potent album to date, Serpents Unleashed appeared on countless year-end “best-of” lists (Decibel, Metal Injection, etc.) due to its “relentlessly intense, in-your-face brutality” (Metal Assault). After touring North America extensively in the fall with The Black Dahlia Murder in addition to performing a select number of shows alongside Ghost B.C., SKELETONWITCH will continue to support the release, joining Amon Amarth and Enslaved on a US run that starts this Friday in Las Vegas. Soon after, the group will make their way to Australia for the first time to tour alongside Toxic Holocaust. The band’s complete tour schedule can be found below.

SKELETONWITCH: “Unfit” For Disney, But Fit For A Wedding

Fresh off a short run of dates supporting Ghost B.C., Athens, Ohio-based blackened metal quintet,SKELETONWITCH, has announced a hometown release party for their forthcoming new full-length,Serpents Unleashed. The show will take place at The Union (18 W. Union St., Athens) on October 23rd, the eve of the kickoff to their extensive North American fall tour with The Black Dahlia Murder. Tickets for the event are just $10.

The Black Dahlia tour will be swiftly followed by another lap around America in early 2014 alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. Unfortunately for fans in Orlando however, where the tour stops onJanuary 27th, SKELETONWITCH will not be allowed to perform at the local House of Blues, as the group has joined the likes of Exodus, Machine Head and others deemed “unfit to be associated with” Disney, on whose property the venue is located.

Although SKELETONWITCH might be unwelcomed at the Magic Kingdom, a California couple has asked the band to make their dreams come true. During SKELETONWITCH‘s performance in Fresno on November 15th, longtime fans Travis Bartlett and Lanae Forrest will get married on stage — making local venue Strummer’s their own happiest place on Earth. Says groom-to-be Bartlett, “Lanae and I are taken aback and beyond elated that SKELETONWITCH are willing to be a part of the most important day of our lives. There really aren’t words to show our appreciation for the band being with us as we begin our lives together.”

Commemorating the group’s 10-year anniversary, Serpents Unleashed — recorded earlier this year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High on Fire), and featuring artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak) – will be unleashed in North America on October 29th, in Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on October 25th and in the UK and the rest of Europe on October 28th. Serpents Unleashed is available for preorder at SKELETONWITCH.com in CD, LP, cassette, digital download and limited edition 7-inch collector’s box formats. In addition, you can now pre-order the album digitally at iTunes and BandCamp and receive an instant download of “I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived).”

See for yourself whether SKELETONWITCH are “unfit to be associated with” at one of their dates below.

Banger Films Launches Final “Extreme Metal” Crowndfunding Push

Award-Winning Metal Filmmakers Join Forces with Underground Metal Community to Complete “Extreme Metal”

After an enormously successful IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign raising nearly $40,000, Grammy-nominated and Juno-winning Banger Films is embarking on a final push to create the “Lost Episode” of the series Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal. The episode will take viewers on an unprecedented journey across Europe and North America to tell the story of metal’s most aggressive and misunderstood sub-genre.

“Our first IndieGoGo campaign was a huge success and we were blown-away by the support of the metal community,” says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. “The research, writing, travel and filming is now complete and we’ve captured some amazing interviews and footage. But we need to turn this footage into an episode!” The new campaign kicked off Friday, August 9th. Details of the campaign, including a brand-new trailer featuring exclusive footage from Banger’s Extreme Metal filming trip, can be found here: igg.me/at/LostEpisode

Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on the “Heavy Metal Family Tree” originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Host and metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn crisscrossed the globe exploring the vast history of Heavy Metal across its 40+ year history, covering everything from the Pre-History of Metal and Shock Rock to Grunge and Thrash Metal. But one very important episode was left out: Extreme Metal. “Some of the networks felt that Extreme Metal was too heavy or too niche. We’re out to prove that Extreme Metal is metal’s most vital sub-genre and that metal would probably die without it!,” says Dunn.

Tom Gabriel Warrior, legendary frontman for extreme metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon, was interviewed by Dunn for the episode: “It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to host Sam and his outstanding team at my place in Zurich. That extreme metal has been overlooked in this series so far is a scandal. This episode is utterly overdue!”

Bands appearing in the episode include Venom, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Slayer, Napalm Death, Carcass, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Enslaved, Gojira and more. The episode will also feature some renowned locations in the history of Extreme Metal including Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, as well as travel footage from Norway, Switzerland, UK, US, and Hellfest (France), one of the world’s biggest metal festivals.

Contributors’ support for the new IndieGoGo campaign will cover costs of finishing the episode which includes editing, archival and music licensing, onlining, sound mixing and other post-production costs. “People are often surprised by how much making quality film and TV costs. It requires a lot of hard work from a team of talented people to ensure we make the best possible show. Extreme Metal deserves the same high-production value and attention to detail that we gave the other Metal Evolution episodes”, adds Dunn. “I’m not getting paid to make this episode but what matters to me is that the Metal Evolution series is finally completed!”

Acoustic Dark Rockers ANCIENT VVISDOM to Release Deathlike/ Live at Mr Smalls Feb 1st

rom the dark corners of Austin, Texas, singer/songwriter Nathan Opposition, his brother Michael Jochum (electric guitar) and acoustic guitarist Justin “Ribs” Mason have been annihilating the underground rock scene under the moniker of ANCIENT VVISDOM. On February 5th, the acoustic dark rockers will release their sophomore album Deathlike, a follow-up to their 2011 critically acclaimed debut A Godlike Inferno. The mesmerizing new collection was recorded at Diamond Factory Studios in Austin and once again mixed and mastered by engineer/co-producer Jason Buntz (Jet, The Darkness,…Trail of Dead), along with partner and Enormous Door founder Jack Control. Deathlike is now streaming in full on TERRORIZER.COM.

Honing in on their archaic sound, ANCIENT VVISDOM stays true to their moniker by virtue of Deathlike’s rich acoustic tones and heavy electric guitars, as if chugging through an apocalyptic world. Their only hope lies in Opposition’s vocals – which, combined with the impassioned acoustic instrumentation, leaves listeners at the edge of their seat as they try to comprehend the depth of his haunting lyrics.

AWARD-WINNING BANGER FILMS’ CALL TO ARMS TO THE METAL COMMUNITY

Due to an overwhelming demand from metal fans worldwide, Grammy-nominated and Juno award-winning Banger Films is setting out to raise funds to make what has become known as “The Lost Episode” a reality. Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal “The Lost Episode” covers co-director Sam Dunn’s favorite genres: Death Metal, Black Metal and Grindcore, and he is reaching out to metal fans to help make it happen:

Metal Evolution – The Lost Episode: Extreme Metal from Banger Films on Vimeo.

“Hundreds of fans have emailed us demanding, pleading, that we do this episode,” says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. “So in response we’re launching an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funding within the Metal community to finance the episode. The goal is to raise $175,000 in 90 days!” The campaign kicked off Friday, September 14th. Details of the campaign, including cool donor gifts at various contribution levels can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/ExtremeMetal

Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on their “Heavy Metal Family Tree” originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Perceived to be perhaps too niche or “extreme” to attract enough audience interest, the episode did not see the light of day, ironic considering it is Heavy Metal’s most vibrant and fastest growing genre.

“For many fans, including myself, extreme metal is massively important. It continues to push metal forward, both sonically and aesthetically,” says Sam. Alex Webster, co-founder/bass player of death metal legends Cannibal Corpse, agrees: “There’s really no way that you could tell the complete story of heavy metal without including a chapter that covers extreme metal. And given their knowledge, experience, and passion for the genre of heavy metal, I think that Banger Films are the most qualified people to do it!”

Contributors’ support will send Sam on a global journey from San Francisco and Tampa to the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden to investigate the history, myths and intricacies of extreme metal. Sam will unravel the lineage between Extreme Metal’s divergent branches – Death Metal, Grindcore and Black Metal – and meet with the sub-genre’s most influential sonic architects, including members of Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Napalm Death, Entombed, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Enslaved and many more. The result will be an unforgettable portrait of metal’s most iconoclastic sub-genre.
