“No Mas Revolucion” depicts a cold realization about the big picture of the Venezuelan Crisis, as seen from an outside perspective which was granted to me as I left to live in the United States and now Germany.

“Revelation” is a personal statement inspired by the people who took stances both in favor and against Zardonic, both as myself and as my music project. It’s a celebration of the best revenge anyone can have against backstabbers, bad-mouthers, copycats and hypocrites: your own success.

“Black And White” is pure, blind rage. The overflowing power that becomes a fighter ready for the ring. American Grim was perfect for this, because Ryan Grim is a fighter himself. They are a mammoth of a band, and I love them like family. It made me very happy to have them on the record!

“Takeover” is a reminder to the world that before EDM and Rock / Metal became the trend it is today, we were pursuing this sound since 2004, and there were also many before us all the way back to the 60s. It made perfect sense then, that The Qemists were the right act for this collaboration. We pay homage to the great artists before us, those who made it big, those unsung, Pendulum, The Prodigy, Celldweller, Ministry, Linkin Park, and all other great artists that contributed to bring Electronic fused Rock to the mainstream, and as the scene takes shape, you better be ready to brace for Takeover!

“Children Of Tomorrow” is an anthem for the resistance. For the people who have raised their voice as the system continues to oppress us. Many sadly took this fight to the streets and violence, leading eventually to riots and their deaths. This is our homage to them. Coppa did a wonderful job with the vocals and lyrics. He is a truly illuminated guy and one of the most genuine artists I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I’d gladly do an entire record with him!

“Before The Dawn” to me is a fanboy’s dream come true. Celldweller was the one artist I heard that blew my mind with his seamless mix of Metal and Electronic Dance Music back in 2003 when he released his Self-Titled debut album. Working with him is an absolute honor, especially because his vocals and lyrics fit the album concept wonderfully well. “Alone I pray for something I know will surely come, is this the dark before the dawn? I hear the voice that’s calling, says not to be afraid, fears that surround me fade away…”

“Follow The Light” continues on to follow the voice in Before The Dawn: “We reunite as the worlds collide. Fear is an illusion. We are your salvation. By eventide our journey begins, so heed the call and follow the light”. The worlds collide is a perfect analogy to our manipulated society. It pains me to see this, because I see the results of it in every aspect of our lives. How through fear people are led to create enemies out of fellow humans, and are capable of the worst atrocities against them. I have no idea if this will ever end, but I know I don’t want to be a part of the collide, so I follow the light above. The light that lets me see with real eyes what is going once you look at the big picture.

“Transhuman” is the ascension of our consciousness into a higher state of being. It is a slow, painful, confusing and chaotic process that requires breaking through paradigms deeply ingrained in our minds since the moment we are born. I took this concept to madman Jorgen Munkeby of the norwegian Blackjazz band SHINING who contributed with the most insane saxophone execution I have ever heard. He is an absolute genius!

“Army Of One” is the loud voice of frustration, anger and fear pulling back. A fear covered by a false fearlessness, for a man who truly has no fear has no need to attack or fight back. It’s easy to fall for it. The relentlessness of anger is very seductive. Pure, raw, unrestrained, and potentially devastating if not under control. Philosophical whatnots aside, I think this will make a great track for First Person Shooters!

“Monster” was the perfect counterpart for Army Of One. Originally a demo project by fellow producer Mario Malke who is an insanely talented Hard Techno producer, sound designer and drummer. He did it together with band APE. I liked how the lyrics say “the voices, we don’t need them at all” and “we’ve seen it all before”. Leaving anything behind always comes with a lot of pain, but once you’re on the other side, everything makes sense.

“Libertadores” is the final mourning of the dying world. It’s walking forward knowing that the pain might always linger, but there is no way to go but forward. To portray this, I based the song in the recent events of the Venezuelan rebellion, which ended in the assassination of Oscar Pérez with the use of a Rocket Launcher. Looking at this is something that still sends chills down my spine. How is it possible that men could carry such acts? What were their true motives? It’s not like we’re strangers to these atrocities as they have been very well documented, but one thing is to read a book or watch a documentary and another is to have it hit close to home. It is my farewell to the fight, my apology to the resistance and my homage to those who fell. I hope I never have to deal with it ever again.

Indie Electro Duo Oh, Be Clever Premiere New Single “Next To You”

BAND WILL EMBARK ON WESTERN U.S. TOUR, RELEASE NEW EP AND PLAY SXSW

“The duo have perfected their mixture of rock, soul, pop and electronic elements under emotional lyrics. ‘Next To You’ is highlighted with an overpowering chorus made for mainstream radio.” – My Old Kentucky Blog

January 29, 2014 – Los Angeles, CA – Alternative electronic duo Oh, Be Clever have premiered their new single “Next To You” http://www.myoldkentuckyblog.com/?p=44768.
The powerful, energetic and infectious track is full of raw emotion and catchy hooks. Oh, Be Clever are about to embark on a western U.S. tour and will also be performing at this year’s SXSW festival.
“‘Next To You’ was inspired by completely devastating and intense break ups that my band mate Cory and I faced at the same time,” singer Brittney Shields explains. “We were both experiencing the effects of a break up and it was driving us to the point of feeling like we were losing our minds. We took our emotions and feelings of madness and transformed it into music, and ‘Next To You’ was born.”
Oh, Be Clever blend elements of rock, soul, and electronic music with raw, emotional lyrics that tell stories of love, struggle and empowerment. The enormous voice of singer Brittney Shields combined with the refreshing state of the art sounds of multi instrumentalist Cory Scott Layton come together to create the catchy, upbeat sound that is Oh, Be Clever. The Salt Lake City duo, however, haven’t always enjoyed perfect harmony. Prior to forming Oh, Be Clever, Brittney and Cory were members of separate bands that loathed each other to the point of physical violence. Late one night after a show, a fight broke out in the parking lot between the two bands. Having always admired each other, Shields and Layton fled the scene to create their own music, and Oh, Be Clever was born.

KTown Shekki vs. Cave Kings Premiere “Safe and Sound” Remix on ArjanWrites

LA’s Newest Production Duo Drops Second Remix
In Collaboration with the Cave Kings

Check out Capital Cities’ “Safe and Sound” (KTown Shekki vs. Cave Kings Remix) HERE

KTown Shekki is a new production crew hailing from Koreatown in Los Angeles. Using karaoke rooms as their studio, Casios swung over their shoulders, this loose collective of LA natives has emerged from a rising underground K-Town electronic scene, mashing up their favorite pop hits with grinding electronic beats and a no holds barred attitude that is reflected in the name: “shekki” means “punk” in Korean.

Swedish DJ duo, Cave Kings, just made their mark this year with one of the top mixes of 2013 so far with their “Scream & Shout” rework featuring Luciana. Their follow-up was the official remix of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” that hit the charts in Australia and Europe, and now they’ve teamed up with KTown Shekki for a set of banger collaborations this summer. They first kicked it off with their club-worthy take on Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” (ft. Aloe Blacc), which you can hear/share via SoundCloud. Combining house, electro and hints of trap, their latest remix of Capital Cities’ summertime hit, “Safe and Sound,” is rapidly clmbing the Hype Machine charts and is currently the #5 Most Popular Track on Twitter!

RJD2 To Release New Album, More Is Than Isn’t, October 8th

Spanning 15 years, the recording career of RJD2 (aka RJ Krohn) is starting to exhibit the type of resilience generally reserved for golfers and bebop musicians. The relevance of this should not go unnoticed; it is increasingly rare for artists in the sphere of hip-hop and electronic music to maintain a presence this far into a career. This feat becomes even more impressive considering it was all done via independent labels. 2013 will see the release of More Is Than Isn’t, his 5th proper full-length LP (7th, if you count “The Horror” EP and 2011’s Inversions of the Colossus), on his own RJ’s Electrical Connections imprint. But before we delve into that, perhaps a quick recap of years 1-14 is in order.

RJD2‘s first credit as a producer appeared in 1998 on the MHz 12″, “Rocket Science,” via Fondle ‘Em Records. Initially playing the role of a DJ/producer in a rap group, this would lay the groundwork leading to a solo record deal on Definitive Jux, the label that released RJD2’s 2002 debut, DeadringerBoth a critical and commercial success, the album’s single “Ghostwriter” appeared in numerous ads, television shows and movies. 2006-2007 saw both the move to XL Recordings for The Third Hand, as well as the release of Magnificent City with Aceyalone, which birthed one of the most recognizable songs inRJD2‘s catalog, “A Beautiful Mine.” It doubles as the theme song to AMC’s “Mad Men.” But in 2009, the landscape of record labels had changed drastically since the previous decade. RJ forged ahead with a newly minted record label, a box set and plans for his fourth LP, The Colossus.

More Is Than Isn’t, his new album and the second RJD2 record on his own label, sees RJ incorporating new production techniques and approaches while still keeping an eye on the basic aesthetic that has always driven him: soulful, melodic, beat-oriented music. A largely instrumental affair, the record does feature several vocalists: Phonte Coleman (Little BrotherForeign Exchange), Aaron Livingston(IcebirdThe Roots), rappers BlueprintP. Blackk and STS, and Khari Mateen. Conceptually, the album is tied together by three instrumental pieces that are different explorations of the same harmonic theme. It captures a dynamic range not seen before on an RJD2 album, ranging from subdued jazz-tinged pieces to bombastic club music, and a lot of funk in between.

Since last releasing an album, electronic music has continued to captivate the public’s interest and has showed no signs of ebbing. The continuation of this movement gave RJ reassurance in the endeavor of making instrumental music. “In ways, all of my previous albums were in some fashion striving to achieve something more than being ‘just instrumental music’; this is the first RJD2 album I’ve made that actually revels in a relative lack of vocals,” he states. The ethereal, beat-driven vibes of his debut album also make appearances now and again, with textural usage of gritty drum breaks, lush analog synths and his ever-distinctive use of the MPC sampler. This record truly is a culmination of years of experience as both a producer and composer, bringing to fruition a record that stands on its own within the landscape of electronic and hip-hop music today.

More Is Than Isn’t is out October 8th, 2013 on RJ’s Electrical Connections.

On Monday Kriget, the experimental rock trio from Stockholm, will release their third long playerDystopico. North America has only seen the release of What a Day, the debut LP from our Swedish friends, making Dystopico the band’s second release Worldwide. Kriget is not electronic – it’s mechanical. It’s not reverential – it’s rather just essential. Last month the band unveiled their EPIC music video for “Sleeping with Buddha” which Impose Magazine so wonderfully analyzed (Click here).

This fall the bombastic trio will hit the European road with fellow Swedish rockers Johnossi – please check out all dates below.

Right now the whole LP can be streamed courtesy of The Line of Best Fit (Click Here) – who proclaim, “[Kriget] make music that both challenges and energises, bouncing between shades of Deutsche-electropunk, deeply stirring jazz and proggy techno…. fans of Factory Floor will find much to enjoy in the record.”

With just bass, drums and a furious saxophone Kriget takes inspiration from pioneers in the margins of pop. A place where music, mystery and noise always will be perfect bedfellows. While Kriget’s sound and live performance is frequently called unique, a few reference points the trio can agree on include: CybotronDAFPeter BrötzmannJames Chance and Ornette Coleman. Just today the band dropped a mixtape with Under the Radar – check it out now to see what the band is currently jamming to.

Dystopico will be released on BLVVD, a mysteriously dark new Stockholm based collective. Kriget is: Gustav Bendt (saxophone), Per Nordmark (drums), and Christoffer Roth (bass).

<< WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING >>

“The song [Holy Mountain] is so hard to pin down. At times, it feels almost cartoonishly upbeat, but the free jazz business of the whole thing erodes that vibe in favor of something more murky and ominous.” – FADER

“I imagine seeing this live, with the carefully curated visuals Kriget employs, I envision club kids next to jazz cats next to acidheads, all equally losing their shit—it moves the body, the mind, and the heart.” – IMPOSE MAGAZINE

“Aggressive, driving, and a bit unnerving, this is psych-rock at its most abrasive. And fun.” – UNDER THE RADAR

“‘He Lives in the Same Forest as Me’, an imperceptibly slower jam off the Dystopico, compositionally reminds us of Fuck Buttons’ upcoming Slow Focus”  NO FEAR OF POP

“Experimental Swedish trio Kriget have a knack for eluding a comfortable ending or a straight presentation: their mixture of frantic drums, bruised bass, and maniacal saxophone work perverts typically accessible riffs, leaving them sinister and stalking.”  – AdHoc

“Music that both challenges and energises, bouncing between shades of Deutsche-electropunk, deeply stirring jazz and proggy techno…Fans of Factory Floor will find much to enjoy in the record” – LINE OF BEST FIT

“…a grinding tune, that takes cues from the likes of Bauhaus, The Cure, and things that go bump in the night.” – Under The Radar

“…discordant guitars, clanging piano, and shuffling beat.” – Interview Magazine

Australian duo VOWS crafts music fit for a seedy, underground dance club: infectious beats, grinding synths, and mechanistic, post-punk tinged guitar lines. Made up of Sydney natives Matt and Rizz, VOWS draws inspiration from film, literature, romance, and the pop culture the two grew up on. Now based in NYC, the duo just released their self-titled EP, which you can stream in full at MSN Music. It’s also available for purchase via iTunes and other digital retailers.

EP track “Symbol System” features discordant guitar melodies, buzzing synths, booming piano and an irregular electro beat that set an eerie mood of mystery and intrigue. Having recently shared the “Symbol System” MP3, the duo has now unleashed a video for the track. Featuring a dark, shadowing aesthetic that perfectly fits their sound, you can check out the “Symbol System” video where it premiered withInterview Magazine today or HERE, and we encourage you to post & share.

EP opener “Councillor” buzzes with electric energy, with layers of fuzzy synth and a heavy beat beneath melodic, intertwining vocals. “I Think I Remember” is led by catchy guitar lines and finds Matt and Rizz’s voices twisting and turning in perfect sync. The appropriately-titled “Ghost Years” is a slower, melancholic cut with a shadowy, haunting quality, while the atmospheric “Bones” closes out the EP with layers of swirling synth and a pulsating beat.

After having released their critically acclaimed debut Native Speaker  in 2011, and hot off the heels of their 12″ single In Kind // Amends, BRAIDS have returned with their new LPFlourish // Perish out August 20th on Arbutus Records.

Flourish // Perish showcases the strength of the band as a collective, and explores their burgeoning love for electronic music.  Here, the band brings their widely disparate strengths together to create a distinctive voice; the organic and complex rhythms dance and spar with sparsely decorative sounds, often fragmented and tampered. Interwoven amongst these threads is the layered voice of Standell-Preston, her engaging lyrics and human performance drawing the listener close.

After 18 months of touring in support of Native Speaker, along with the departure of a band member, the group secluded themselves in their Montreal studio for a year of writing and recording.  While Native Speaker was written in an organic and live environment, the group sought to explore a more introspective and electronic approach to songwriting.  Sonically, the songs from these sessions are delicate and tight, yet thoughtfully open up to the rich lushness reminiscent of their older material. Lyrically they are honest and vulnerable, demonstrating the group’s emotional growth and maturity since their last record.

With Flourish // Perish, BRAIDS marks an exciting new partnership with Montreal-based label Arbutus Records.

“The ‘Spaces’ album and accompanying live shows are sure to elevate Mixhell into the premiere league of electronic acts.” – DJ Mag

Mixhell, an electronic collaboration between former Sepultura drummer Iggor Cavalera and DJ wife Laima Leyton, are releasing their highly anticipated debut album June 11th on Last Gang Records(Crystal Castles, Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT) in liaison with Boysnoize Records.

Their first single, Exit Wound, featuring vocals from Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato, was released to rave reviews, being coined as a subtle but sexy track perfected by the live percussion performed by Cavalera, resulting in a tightly coiled, urgent masterpiece. DJ Mag called the track a rock and rave delight with sleazy vocals, squirrelling electronics and power-funk drums. The music video for the single premiered on Noisey, and was directed by Brazilian phenom Thiago Zanato.

The album, mixed by Gui Boratto, blends old and new, taking the best elements of both dance, electronica and rock to create a fresh and exciting sound that’s entirely Mixhell’s.  Their live performances combine live percussion and dance fusion to create an incredibly engaging, wild and exciting show. In addition, they’ve enlisted the help of constant studio collaborator Max Blum, who will add bass guitar to their already unique and intricate sets. With a few dates lined up this summer, including the legendary Glastonbury Music Festival, and a full fledged tour in the works, it doesn’t look like Mixhell shows any signs of slowing down.

Last Gang Entertainment is a recording, management and publishing company founded in 2003 with offices in Los Angeles, London and Toronto.  In addition to launching Metric, Death From Above 1979, MSTRKRFT and Crystal Castles, the label has combined successfully with LIGHTS, Chromeo, The New Pornographers, K-OS, Boys Noize and Tiga on varied licensing deals.  The distributed division (Last Gang Labels) has partnered with a variety of artist and label clients, including Nightbox, Trouble Andrew and boutique electronic label Turbo Recordings.

Stripmall Architecture pushes all boundaries as they continue to set the tone for much of the Bay Area electronic music scene. With a long history in music and collaboration, their exceptional sound takes new form with each new release, be it a dancy single with sexual innuendos, or a dark and haunting full length inspired by despair. There is always a project in the works and when it surfaces, a new innovation is born.

Husband wife duo Rebecca and Ryan Coseboom have collaborated with groundbreaking artists including; Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie, legendary Nine Inch Nails/Depeche Mode producer John Fryer, James Lavelle’s UNKLE, and underground avant-cellist Zoe Keating. These days, the pair are laser-focused on their own material and have put together a live show that has instantly become one of the most unique and acclaimed in the once-again vibrant San Francisco music scene.

“Does the mention of a band somewhere in-between Sigur Rós and the Cocteau Twins make those little hairs on the back of your neck tingle? If so, you owe it to yourself to check out Stripmall Architecture” –SF Weekly

Rebecca Coseboom’s voice flutters around your head like a silky scarf and the whole is like a sonic manifestation of a romantic swoon…” –The Stranger, Seattle

Listen to “Iodine,” New Song off When Saints Go Machine’s Infinity Pool

LISTEN TO WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE’S “IODINE,” SECOND SINGLE OFF
NEW ALBUM, INFINITY POOL, OUT MAY 28 ON !K7 RECORD

When Saints Go Machine release their sophomore album, Infinity Poolon May 28th on !K7. It’s an album born out of an atmosphere of chaos, showing the band — Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild (vocals), Jonas Kenton (keyboard), Simon Muschinsky (keyboards), and Silas Moldenhawer (drums) — operating outside of their comfort zone, an approach leading to great results for this four-piece from Copenhagen. As with debut album Konkyliemost of the productions consist of layers built upon layers in each song, however, with Infinity Pool, they aimed to make each layer sound immediate and simple resulting in a harder, darker, slower and more synthetic feel. Regardless of approach and environment, Infinity Pool still retains that signature When Saints Go Machine longing feeling, the glue that holds the album together. Following “Love and Respect” feat. Killer Mike, listen to Infinity Pool‘s second single, “Iodine,” below.

“Love and Respect” ft. Killer Mike (Unkwon Remix) –

“Love and Respect” ft. Killer Mike (Teengirl Fantasy Remix) –

PRAISE FOR “LOVE AND RESPECT” FEAT. KILLER MIKE” AND “IODINE”:

“When Saints Go Machine’s general prerogative of making filmic music fronted with Arthur Russell-redolent vocals is entirely upheld here, though the presets and sounds on ‘Iodine’s’ electronic production are particularly well-crafted, and the flip from minor key to major for the hook is thereby particularly sublime. Recommended listening . . .” — Stereogum

“[Iodine] is filled with hooks and rhythmic echoes that send you into a shadowy daydream you may never want to leave.” – The FADER

” . . . the first single from the forthcoming Infinity Pool defies expectations again. Curiously, Killer Mike plays the lead performer here, riding the blend of beats and soft tones with commanding ease. But then vocalist Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild brings his sweet voice to the break, almost a guest on his band’s work for once but providing the key central anchor nonetheless.” — Pitchfork

“‘Iodine’ blends soulful, warped vocals with an off-kilter, cinematic groove . . . ” — SPIN

“The selection of Killer Mike as guest MC on this, the lead single from the band’s upcoming sophomore album, ‘Infinity Pool,’ is both beguiling and the best thing ever.” — Billboard

“a percussive thumper slathered with hyperactive synths and frontman Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild’s quietly affecting falsetto which quickly reaches up into the rafters.” — Beats Per Minute

“Weaving together a deep, bumpin’ groove and cool, tingly vocals, ‘Iodine’ is a slick, yet booming and serpentine number that quickly wraps itself tightly around the listener . . .” — Consequence of Sound

VOWS EP Out 6/4, MP3 Drops w/ Under The Radar

“Symbol System” MP3 Drops w/ Under The Radar

“…a grinding tune, that takes cues from the likes of Bauhaus, The Cure, and things that go bump in the night.” – Under The Radar

Now based in NYC, the duo will release their new self-titled EP on June 4th.

EP track “Symbol System” features discordant guitar melodies, buzzing synths, booming piano and an irregular electro beat that keeps you on your toes. Featuring vocals from both Matt and Rizz, the song sets an eerie mood of mystery and intrigue. You can download the “Symbol System” MP3 where it premiered with Under The Radar today or HERE.

Rainbow Chan To Release Debut EP

long_vacation_cover.111544

Rainbow Chan is a Sydney solo artist and producer with a love for story-telling. Whether she is stitching together childhood dreams, rummaging through flea markets or sampling odd sounds, Rainbow is constantly collecting bits and pieces for her music.

An eclectic mix of electronic and acoustic textures, Rainbow Chan’s songs are delicately-crafted gems embedded in the nostalgic imagination. Live loops are created with music-boxes, thumb-pianos and vintage toys sourced from antique fairs. Lilting guitar finger-picking is matched with 8-bit keyboards, distorted beats and glockenspiels. Experimentation is interlaced with the other-worldly charm of her voice.

Rainbow’s love for intertwining sounds, colours and visuals has attracted the attention of blogs, radio and in October 2011, FBi Radio’s Northern Lights Competition. Rainbow Chan and Oliver Tank won the opportunity to collaborate and perform at the cutting edge Iceland Airwaves Festival alongside the likes of Björk, Beach House, SBTRKT and Ólafur Arnalds.

Since then, Rainbow has been making an impression on the live circuit nationwide with her bizarre yet sweet juxtaposition of loops, dissonant harmonies and sounds. She has released two singles, “Sweet Tooth” and “Rabbit and Fox”, both of which are moody and sensuous pieces of electronica. She has continued to broaden her sound, working with orchestra and string quartet, exploring noise music, and most recently singing in Karen O’s (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) “Stop the Virgens” as part of Vivid Festival.

Press Quotes

“Sydney resident Chan’s faultless tones and penchant for knitting together classical and electronic elements will no doubt bring about comparisons with Bjork; there’s enough to  to suggest that Rainbow Chan carries the same darkly chaotic brainwaves.” – The Line Of Best Fit

“Rainbow pours her heart into this truly beautiful track, laden with plonky piano notes and a glorious live string section. Her vocal work is second to none, and as the thick, slow beats drop into the mix, the track becomes a driving force, unabashedly displaying her pure love and emotion.” – Live For The Funk

Listen to Standish/Carlyon’s “Subliminally”

STANDISH/CARLYON PLAY FIRST NYC SHOW – THU. MAY 30 @ GLASSLANDS

“When done right, there’s always something compelling about that kind of cold, crisp, slow-crawling beat that exists somewhere between electronic and industrial music– think Gary Numan’s 1981 collaboration with Paul Gardiner ‘Stormtrooper in Drag’ or the pulsing crunch underpinning NIN’s ‘Closer’ . . . Conrad Standish and Tom Carlyon, veterans of the band Devastations, play with their own variation on the form to excellent effect.” – Pitchfork

Featuring submerged electronic rhythms and late-night altered states, the atmosphere throughout Standish/Carlyon‘s debut album, Deleted Scenes, is surreal chic – a sensual, ultramodern gloss disturbed by deep vibrations. In rich baritone or impressive falsetto, Standish intones dark absurdist lyrics over the band’s synthetic fractured funk and shimmering take on dub. After sharing album tracks “Gucci Mountain” and “Nono/Yoyo,” the duo now share “Subliminally.”

Following the May 14th release of Deleted Scenes on felte, Standish/Carlyon play their debut North American show in New York at Glasslands on Thu. May 30th with The Field.

“Nono/Yoyo” (White Car Don’t Want My Love Remix) – http://snd.sc/ZtZjvy

“a beautifully produced record that’s all empty, late-night yearning.”

– Flavorwire [The 10 Albums You Need to Hear in May]

“‘Nono/Yoyo’ is a heady swirl of falsetto and intricately layered keyboard-gasps. If you like early Talk Talk, odds are you’ll be into this too.” – Stereogum

“Synths bubble up under a murky pond while reverberating bass sends ripples across the surface. It’s haunting and beguiling, alluring and unnatural . . . “

– Consequence of Sound

“The track seems to have been placed in a digital pressure cooker, amplifying and multiplying its beats, adding to its industrial atmosphere.” – Ad Hoc

Boston’s Moduloktopus’ Tribute to Black History Month: “Bessie’s Bounce”

You may not already be aware of Boston’s Moduloktopus, but you should start paying attention because this Electronic Music Chameleon is making waves in 2013.
The Dominican producer has been creating a buzz amongst various blogs (Earmilk, Gotta Dance Dirty, Run The Trap, DEEPGOA, Klubb Ace, Wantickets, Marshmallow Gun, Future Classics, Dipped in Dollars, Wicked, etc…). The artist is solely in love with the creative process and the capacity to express emotions through music in such a way that people identify a link between how they feel or felt during other moments in life. His style is always surprising listeners with a hypnotic combination of EDM genres, experimental sounds, multi-dimensional melodies, soaring build ups, and climatic Sub Bass body motions.

“if the textures and beats are winking and mischievous, the overall sense of musical structure is dead serious and, ultimately, virtuosic. The songs grow, change, build, and resolve . . . The peculiar genius of Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma is that they make all these things sound like they could come from no one else. The fact that they are still doing it 18 years after their first album, and still capable of making some of the best music of their career, is inspiring” – Mark Richardson, Pitchfork

Last year, German electronic pioneers Mouse on Mars made their triumphant return via the release of new album Parastrophics and follow-up mini-album WOW on Monkeytown Records. Next month, Mouse on Mars’ Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma will finally make their way stateside in support of these two releases. The new live show presents an improved electronic setup plus sound generated visuals and a subsonic wave modulation device. It will be their first North American tour in six years. Check out new track “bonuß” and go see them live next month!

MOUSE ON MARS’ LIVE PREVIEW:
http://bit.ly/13IdfGu

A life affirming and constantly surprising album, crammed with ideas, exuberance, addictive detail and sheer kinetic energy, Parastrophics displays a beguiling sense of confidence and a subtle, yet persuasive sense of control and pace. WOW is the buoyant, immediate and club-oriented counterpoint to Parastrophics, with Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma aiming their considerable technical finesse firmly in the direction of the dancefloor. It’s a spontaneous reaction to all those hours of studio labor for Parastrophics, created from scratch in a matter of weeks. The record also makes much use of the wretchup, an iphone app that was invented by Mouse on Mars during preparations for their orchestral work Paeanumnion. It was used in the creation of Parastrophics and now in their live show, and will be available via iTunes in early spring.

Mouse on Mars have been busy since the release of Parastrophics and WOW working on a 20-year anniversary boxset (details to be announced in the coming months), starting a new label called “RR,” and launching their new website, http://www.mouseonmars.com. Additionally, they are starting “Africa Connector,” a musicians network which creates a platform to fund young inventive engineers from underdeveloped countries.

Matmos Announce February Tour In Support Of New Album & Share New Live Video

Baltimore-based electronic duo Matmos (Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt) will tour the US next month in support of their new album, The Marriage Of True Minds, out February 19 on Thrill Jockey Records. To give a taste of what’s to come, SPIN.com premiered a live performance of Matmos covering the Buzzcocks’ “ESP” at Thrill Jockey’s 20th Anniversary show in Baltimore last September. The performance begins sinister and slow eventually speeding up to a fleet-footed jangle and climaxing with a spaced-out refrain. All the while, images of slithering worms and quacking ducks flicker across the screen, warping your mind in the process. Do you believe in ESP, indeed!

The Marriage Of True Minds is Matmos’ first new full-length album in five years and follows 2012’s The Ganzfeld EP, which was the culmination of four years of parapsychological experiments based on the Ganzfeld (“total field”) experiment. Test subjects were put into a state of sensory deprivation by covering their eyes and listening to white noise on headphones, and then Matmos member Drew Daniel attempted to transmit “the concept of the new Matmos record” directly into their minds. The resulting transcripts of the videotaped psychic experiments became poetic and conceptual scores used by Matmos to generate the nine songs on this album, which prominently features vocalists and voices for the first time in Matmos’ work. Guest musicians include Dan Deacon, Dominique Leone, DJ Dog Dick, Leslie Weiner and Holger Hiller (Palais Schaumberg), Jason Willett (Half Japanese), Angel Deradoorian, Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak) and more.

AHLEUCHATISTAS SHARE “LIGHTED STAIRS” VIDEO

With a moniker that screams “enigma,” Asheville, North Carolina instrumental rock duo Ahleuchatistas belong to the beyond-category sector of such iconic, genre-flouting combos as John Zorn’s Naked City, Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Swans, Tortoise, and Sun City Girls. A duo armed only with guitar and drums, Ahleuchatistas combine wicked precision with intense abandon, droll humor with analytical construction, and a sly gregariousness with uncompromising vision. This pair interweaves elements of punk rock, jazz, classical music, speed metal, grindcore, progressive rock, noise, folk musics from Asia and North Africa, electronic music, and ambient aesthetics, along with volatile, unpredictable improvisation, flowing organically in a virtual world of their own. With a devoted international cult following, Ahleuchatistas is considered by many to be one of the most innovative and ever-developing instrumental groups of the past decade. Cerebral but never ponderous, Ahleuchatistas make immediate music that reaches for the mind, heart, and gut.

LISTEN TO AHLEUCHATISTAS’ “WISPS”

On their seventh album, Ahleuchatistas’ Heads Full of Poison is a sonic brew that reveals new flavors, new spices with every aural taste. Now a duo of charter member Shane Perlowin (guitar and bass) and Ryan Oslance (drums), Heads Full of Poison was developed over a two-year period, road-tested and honed with numerous performances, including nearly 100 in Europe. It combines highly detailed composition with a looseness that encourages a range of interpretation. Throughout the album, Perlowin and Oslance perform with a rare unity of purpose, without any self-indulgence or water-treading, displaying a virtually orchestral palette.
