HONKY’s “Corduroy” feast of down and dirty rock

When you think of Texas, what comes to mind? Big skies? Big trucks? Hot women with big… hair? Everything, as they say, is bigger in Texas… And that what ain’t bigger is more bizarre. After all, in a state that refers to itself as a republic, things can get pretty skewed.

Enter HONKY, who proudly carries the torch held by the likes of Bloodrock, Pantera, ZZ Top and the red-headed stranger himself, Mr. Willie Nelson. This Austin superboogie trio was founded in 1996 by long time Butthole Surfer/part time Melvins bassist JD Pinkus, Bobby Ed Landgraf (Down, Skrew, …) on guitar, and Trinidad Leal (Dixie Witch) on them skins. Together the riff-rocking three-some have released some of the best stripped down, butt-shakin’, rock ever cut to wax, tape, or CD and have toured with the likes of Nashville Pussy, the Reverend Horton Heat, Fu Manchu, Melvins, Peter Pan Speedrock, Down, and David Allan Coe.

HONKY’s newest release (and eighth overall!) entitled Corduroy is another feast of down and dirty rock, rollin’ across the finish line on May 27th via on Philip Anselmo’s Housecore Records. Boasting nine tracks thick enough to eat with a fork but you’ll wanna keep a spoon handy so ya don’t miss out on that gravy, Corduroy was produced by JD Pinkus and mastered by Paul Learywith artworkand Layout by Ryan Everett. Drum duties were handled by a more-than-qualified group of drummers, including Trinidad Leal (Dixie Witch), Michael “Night Train” Brueggen (Blackula, Syrup, Supagroup), Dale Crover (Melvins), and even originalHONKY drummer, Lance Farley, all makin’ the grooves proper. Guest appearances include Mark “Speedy” Gonzales and the Fantasma Horns, as well as the band’s favorite Honkette, Rae Comeau.

WARBEAST Releases New Music Video for ‘Blood Moon’

The beast is unleashed! Today, WARBEAST releases their brand new, horror-flick inspired music video for the track ‘Blood Moon’. The song is cut from their new album Destroy, released last week via Housecore Records. You can watch the video now exclusively atNoisecreep.com.

The video tells the terrifying story of Gnmange’, a tormented Werewolf, and his need to exist. The video was directed by Mike Holderbeast of Cement Level Studios NOLA, known for his recent work with Down on their music video for the track ‘Witchtripper’. The video features the acting talents of WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby and slayed victims Amber Michelle and Sarah Vaz, and features special effects work by Molly Federline.

As the star of the video, guitarist Scott Shelby was able to experience all of the video’s special effects and behind the scenes tricks first-hand. “First, Director Mike Holderbeast came to our rehearsal space at Zativa Studios in Texas. There, we filmed the jamming parts of the video in front of black screens and green screens. Next came the werewolf part, which had me going to New Orleans to Mike’s place. I followed his directing tips in order to become and transform into the Beast with professional makeup artist and lots of blood. We filmed in the French quarters and step by step did the transformation— ripping flesh, growing teeth, and turning into the Beast which had been caged and taunted by two beautiful women. The beast eventually slaughters both of them in this classic horror film metal video!”

“‘Blood Moon’ is a special song to me because I wrote it years ago. Bringing it back to life with WARBEAST is an honor and long overdue,” adds Shelby. “Plus, Bruce put his horror movie lyrics to it, which are the icing on the cake. This is a great song and a dream come true for Bruce and I. Mike Holderbeast is a master at his art as you will see in this awesome video. Enjoy and slash and thrash!”

Watch the video here and buy your copy of Destroy now at the Housecore Records official website.

WARBEAST Tour with DOWN Dedicated to the Memory of Mike Scaccia

Sadly, as many music fans across the globe learned last week, celebrated Rigor Mortis and Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia passed away while doing what he loved best—playing music. While it is with a very heavy heart, WARBEAST will be hitting the road for their West Coast tour with Down as planned. Mike would not expect anything less from them, so they will be dedicating the upcoming tour to the memory of Mike Scaccia—one of our generation’s greatest guitarists and certainly one of their closest friends.

Last week, WARBEAST vocalist Bruce Corbitt shared his condolences and thoughts with the community. “Mike Scaccia left this Earth doing what he loved to do. Tragically, the music world has lost an extremely talented, gifted and unique guitar virtuoso. His music and his legend will live on forever. But a loving husband, father, son and brother etc. can never be replaced. Mike would be overwhelmed with this outpouring of emotion that has risen from his passing, but he would mainly be proud of the enormous support that everyone has shown towards his family during this devastating time in their lives.

We can and we will make sure that Mike’s wife and his kids are taken care of. So, I would like to ask anyone that can make a donation… big or small… do it now. Please understand that this is what would mean the most to Mike.”

To donate to the Mike Scaccia Family Fundraiser, head here and follow the link: http://www.warbeast.org/?p=156

In addition to the fundraiser effort, Philip Anselmo of Housecore Records came up with the idea for WARBEAST to team up and write some lyrics about Mike Scaccia. WARBEAST already has two songs recorded and in the vault. One of them is the song about Bruce Corbitt’s brother Jeff Corbitt (RIP), of which Bruce has mentioned many times publicly. The other will be a song written about Mike Scaccia. The two songs will be released together with a picture of Mike on one side and a picture of Jeff Corbitt on the other.

Also, Sarah Scaccia (Mike’s daughter) is putting a beautiful book together to honor her father. If everyone would please email her your personal stories about her Dad, she can be contacted at sjska21@gmail.com. She will compile them together for the book. Let’s share and keep him alive in spirit.

Join WARBEAST and DOWN in honoring the memory of Mike Scaccia’s life on their upcoming tour dates.

PHILIP ANSELMO and WARBEAST Confirm ‘War of the Gargantuas’

WARBEAST Set to Release New Full Length Album ‘Destroy’ in Early 2013

Legendary Pantera, Superjoint Ritual and DOWN vocalist PHILIP ANSELMO and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST recently announced that they will be releasing a new split album entitled War of the Gargantuas. The split now has an official release date of January 8, 2012 and will include two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by PHILIP ANSELMO during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.

“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers WARBEAST. The title of the split is War of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60’s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our “Gargantuan” personalities,” states PHILIP ANSELMO. “Both WARBEAST and myself have full length LP’s that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”

“These two songs we have on War of the Gargantuas were the next level after Krush The Enemy,” states WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby. “They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”

WARBEAST also recently announced the upcoming release of their second full-length album, Destroy. The album is scheduled to be released in early 2013 via Housecore Records and is currently in the mastering stages. Stay tuned for more information on Destroy coming very soon.

Worth style,” states Anselmo. “These guys are tailor made for our brothers and sisters across the pond, and I expect them to fucking kick some almighty ass, and gain a shitload of new fans.”

Metal Masters 4 is bringing back some of the classic “Metal Masters” while adding a few new members to the list. As always, fans can expect some surprise appearances and unforgettable performances. Metal Masters 4< will feature Philip Anselmo (Pantera/Down), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax), plus Billy Sheehan and Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer).

If the still-circulating buzz from Metal Masters 3 is any indication, Metal Masters 4 won't disappoint anyone who is lucky enough to see it. Metal Masters 3, which took place at the Key Club in Los Angeles, featured the “Metal Masters” demonstrating their techniques and styles used to create the music that millions bang their heads to every day.

The highlight of the event came when Philip Anselmo jumped onstage to perform Slayer fan-favorites “Angel Of Death” and “Raining Blood” before launching into five songs from the classic Pantera album, Vulgar Display Of Power. Anselmo and the “Metal Masters” comprised of David Ellefson (Megadeth), Chris Broderick (Megadeth), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and Mike Portnoy (Adrenaline Mob/Flying Colors), blazed through “Mouth For War,” “A New Level,” “Walk,” “Hostile,” and “This Love.” Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath joined all of the “Metal Masters” on stage for the finale of “Hole In The Sky.”

“We’re extremely excited to be bringing the Metal Masters series back home to the East Coast with our most diverse and talented lineup to date,” says Mark Menghi, Samson’s Director of Marketing. “I say it every time and this time will be no different, but Metal Masters 4 is going to be the best one yet…”

Kill Devil Hill Debut

The self-titled debut album from KILL DEVIL HILL, with legendary drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, KILL DEVIL HILL), Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason “Dewey” Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals has been tearing up the metal charts.

“Kill Devil Hill” was produced by Warren Riker, (DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SUBLIME and CATHEDRAL). The KILL DEVIL HILL release will be available in a standard CD edition, an iTunes digital download, and double gatefold LP.

According to Vinny Appice, KILL DEVIL HILL’s sound is “like a cross between BLACK SABBATH, ALICE IN CHAINS and a little bit of LED ZEPPELIN thrown in. It’s heavy, but with a lot of cool hooks and melodic overtones, too.”
