DECEPTION OF A GHOST U.S. Tour with The Bunny The Bear (April 11 – May 16)

Buddy just messaged us the other day about being super excited to return to the Steel City area!  Come see our friends and true metal masters at Gators in Jeanette, PA on 4/21!  This is a killer line-up!!!  Come hang out with Pittsburgh Music Magazine and Deception of a Ghost!
Deception Of A Ghost are excited to announce their upcoming U.S. tour with The Bunny The Bear! The tour will kick off April 11 and run through May 16 and will see the band playing a lot of cities they haven’t been to since their new album “Life Right Now” was released. All tour dates below.
The band tapped Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, For Today, Alesana) to produce their new album “Life Right Now” for Bullet Tooth. Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, The Devil Wears Prada) mixed and mastered the album as well. Fans expected a devastatingly heavy and complex metal album with the melody and intricacies they have come to love from DOAG, and that is exactly what they got.
“We set out to write heavy, fast, and in your face and yet still positive record, and that’s just what we did with our new album “Life Right Now“. Shortly after the release of “Speak Up You’re Not Alone” we changed vocalists and added Scott Cowan (Ex ‘To The Lions’ and ‘A Stained Glass Romance’) to the lineup and it totally changed us for good. We worked our asses off on this record alongside the help and inspiration of Jamie King and Joey Sturgis and we’re pretty shocked with how it came out. This whole record speaks of positivity, and how to live your life for you, have fun and forget what anyone else wants. Don’t take everything so serious and just be free and happy. LIFE RIGHT NOW!” – Buddy Dameron (Gutar/Vocals)
Producer Jamie King was psyched to get to work on a new DOAG album and said, “Excited to have the DOAG boys back in the studio, these guys always play super solid and make my job that much easier, not to mention all the laughs and great times. Judging from the material I’ve heard so far It’s going to open some eyes and ears for sure! I think these guys have the potential to get to the top with this one. We’re going to have fun as always and take this one to the next level! We’re going to make sure this one is a force to be reckoned with!”
The band was featured recently in Alt Revolt,

and fans can also play the new track “American Terrorist” off their new album on RockBand.

Deception Of A Ghost has recently been on the road with Texas In July (Equal Vision), Affiance (Bullet Tooth), The Bunny The Bear (Victory), This Or The Apocalypse (Good Fight), Affiance (Bullet Tooth), In Fear And Faith (Rise), Iwrestledabearonce (Century Media) and many more.

PMM’s Top 5 Metal Releases of 2012

2012 has been a pretty amazing year for Pittsburgh Music Magazine, hell it was the year of our inception. Many of you may have noticed that although we cover all genres around here, two of our writers are pretty serious metalheads. To try to narrow down the top 5 metal moments of 2012 is a pretty hard task, it was a very good year for releases in the genre that very few are brave enough to adore outloud and even fewer truly understand. Metal has progressed and has so many classifications at this point that one needs Sam Dunne’s charts from VH1 and Wikipedia just to wade through it all. Trust this writer, it has been an amazing year in music, and just keeping up with all that is going on in the little niche of tunes I adore can be no small task. So with further adieu, here are PMM’s Top 5 Metal Masterpieces of 2012:

betweentheburiedandme2012
1. Hands down without a doubt, Between the Buried and Me’s: The Parallax 2 Future Sequence is the metal record of the year. With an unbelievable mix of prog metal mastery, this band refuses to slow down and seems to only get better. Many of their peers think the same, just check out some different band comments on Facebook (i.e. Mike Portney (Faith No More/ Ozzy) or Scott Cowan (Deception of a Ghost)). Brutal one second, soothing the next, piercing and thought provoking all the next…don’t miss this one whatever you do.

2. The “comeback” of the year was The Deftones. Many of you probably expected me to say Soundgarden, and that is definitely honorable mention, but Chino and crew have come back with a vengeance. Koi No Yokan is the best since White Pony and is ear bending from first note…like they never went away. Sickeningly talented and devastatingly brilliant.

3. Witchcraft, the little doom/stoner rock band from Sweden, swept me off my feet this year with Legend. A bit Queens of the Stone Age meets Sabbath and Deep Purple thrown in with some Soundgarden grungy mix. It’s 70’s metal with a new twist.

4. French metallers Gojira provided the soundtrack for our trip from Pittsburgh to Cleveland to catch this years Mayhem Festival. Un-freakin-believable. I still can’t get enough of this record and everytime I listen to it, I feel as though I discover more. Best thing they have ever put out to date, solid from end to end.

5. So many could sit at this spot. And I am going to totally cheat…a four way tie. Periphery, Battlecross, The HAARP Machine, and Deception of a Ghost are all “newer” bands that have infected me this year and made me a loyal fan. Please check these guys out and tell them we sent you when you go see them…for they all bring it big time live. Go buy ALL their CD’s now- you won’t regret it!

Affiance’s ‘The Campaign’ Has Killer Week- See Them Live in PGH 12/12

The new Affiance album “The Campaign” has had a successful first week! Some great sales numbers have charted them at #7 Heatseekers, #7 Top New Artist, #37 Top Hard Albums, and #53 Top Indie Albums. Singer Dennis Tvrdik commented, “We are absolutely stoked that we charted on Billboard! Our fans are insanely supportive and believe in us not only as a band but as people. Thank you to everyone who bought The Campaign. We are forever grateful!”

The band just premiered their first music video from “The Campaign”! The video is for the opening track “Kings Of Deceit” and shows the band performing as well as newsworthy moments from the last few decades. The song also features Dustin Davidson from August Burns Red (courtesy of Solid State) who gives a great vocal performance!

“We were really excited to do a serious and dark video since our biggest video is us running around in our pajamas and playing a video game. This video is for the first track on the album and we wanted to start ‘The Campaign’ off by calling out the media and the powerful who orchestrate and manipulate the biggest events throughout modern history. It also shows a different side of us than our ‘Call To The Warrior’ video. You know us as easy going, good time dudes, but we are also dead serious about making positive change in the world around us.” – Dennis Tvrdik (Vocals)

Dennis Tvrdik commented on the new album (Produced by Carson Slovak at Atrium Audio who has recently finished records for August Burns Red, Texas In July), “The Campaign is multiple levels above No Secret Revealed in every area. The vocals, the drums, the guitars, the recording quality, the song structure, the variety… We couldn’t be happier or more confident with a sophomore album. It almost feels like we skipped a release between the two albums! There is not a doubt in my mind that this will be a game changer for us and will open many doors to opportunities otherwise closed off from us.”

Affiance recently appeared AS A CARTOON (yes, a cartoon) in a new interview with South Africa’s MK Ondergrond! The interview appeared on national SA television but can be seen on YouTube along with recent interviews with In Flames and The Used. Singer Dennis Tvrdik talks about their hometown of Cleveland, the metal and hardcore scenes, touring, music videos, and more. They have also recently been featured in Hails And Horns Magazine and have features coming in the next issue of Outburn Magazine and more!

The guys launched their new music video for “Nostra Culpa” this Spring and it is available on YouTube! The video showcases the band doing what they do best, and that is performing LIVE. Check them out in front of a packed headlining set at Peabody’s in their hometown of Cleveland! Of course if you haven’t seen their groundbreaking music video for “Call To The Warrior” (650,000+ views), you need to watch it immediately!

Affiance have recently wrapped up US tours with Memphis May Fire, Close Your Eyes, Serianna, Modern Day Escape, The Color Morale, Stray From The Path, Vanna, This Or The Apocalypse and Deception Of A Ghost. They will be direct support to CHIMAIRA on December 29th at House Of Blues in Cleveland!

Modern Day Escape Puts Pittsburgh Under the Gun

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Revolver Magazine described them as, “an irresistibly catchy fusion of Sunset Strip style hard rock and galvanic screamo. Alternative Press calls them “irresistible” and Outburn Magazine calls them “a real winner”. We here at Pittsburgh Music Magazine had the first chance to catch them live in Pittsburgh at The Ironworks while on tour with Affiance, Deception of a Ghost, and Picture Me Broken. Formed in Orlando, FL in the summer of 2006 MDE has been toughing it out on the road and impressing audiences for a long time now and are touring in support of their latest effort, ‘Under the Gun’ that sees them taking a more melodic approach to their previous work. Certainly there is an improvement in Vegas’ lyrics that focus more on introspective events of his past than the previous “party” content. We must also say that former Black Veil Brides drummer Sandra Alva is a welcome addition and one hell of a drummer.
One of our most loyal followers (and a secret source for keeping us cool) is Melisa, who turned us on to MDE. PMM is thankful she did. With a stellar performance that floored the Pittsburgh crowd, Modern Day Escape made an indelible mark on the Steel City. Due to a massive delay on their way to the ‘Burgh, MDE was unable to sit down for an interview pre-show. But, we hung out with singer James Vegas for sometime after their set and we can’t say enough about what a great guy he truly is and we had a tremendous time getting to know him. Very humble, very gracious, very cool. James took time to talk to all our supporters and signed their pants, posters, and took pictures with all happily.
As of this writing MDE is unfortunately stuck in Fredricksburg, VA with a bum transmission (and silly you thought the road was all glory) and getting ready to tear up the West of the U.S. on their way back home to L.A. Check out the video below and you can order their new CD and merch here.

Picture Me Broken’s Brooklyn Could Be The Second Coming of Benatar

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One look at Brooklyn Allman and you just know she knows how to rock with the best of them. Fronting the band Picture Me Broken is a 19 year old woman that is already a seasoned professional in the music business. Hailing from the Bay Area (Redwood City), CA Brooklyn (lead vocals) and bassist Austin Dunn have been plugging away since 2005 when they were 12. Their lineup has changed and morphed over the years, but now that they have Shawn Foist (drummer), Dante Phoenix (guitar), and Jimmy Strimpel (guitar) they seem to have found a magical make-up that will propel them to bigger things.
PMB is not just some chick fronted band though. Brooklyn may have the voice of a Pat Benatar meets Nancy Wilson, but she also has the stage presence and ability to growl out vocals with the confidence of a seasoned veteran. She is quick to let you know that PMB is a rock band and not some girl fronted gimmick band.
Having to hit the stage in Pittsburgh as soon as they arrived, due to some overwhelming traffic caused by an accident on the freeway, the band did not let it affect them in any way and showed professional poise as they won the crowds affection. Not long after their set, drummer Shawn Foist was able to introduce me to Brooklyn who took the time to give Pittsburgh Music Magazine an interview that really shows her positive attitude. Listen to the following interview link to learn more about where PMB is off to next, projects in the pipeline, Brooklyn’s past and why she loves AFI: Brooklyn of Picture Me Broken

MODERN DAY ESCAPE and PICTURE ME BROKEN Join Forces for North American Tour: Pittsburgh 10/20

Standby Records artists MODERN DAY ESCAPE and PICTURE ME BROKEN are teaming up for a North American tour. The first leg of the jaunt kicks off September 30th in Fullerton, CA and runs through October 20th in Pittsburgh PA. Affiance, and Deception of a Ghost will be on the bill as well. A second leg is expected to be announced shortly. A complete list of confirmed dates can be found below.

MODERN DAY ESCAPE is touring in support of their latest release Under the Gun which came out earlier this year on Standby Records. MODERN DAY ESCAPE formed in Orlando, Florida in 2006. After going through various incarnations and lineup changes, MDE solidified their lineup in 2011 with the addition of drummer Sandra Alva (Ex-Black Veil Brides) and guitarist Mark Burn. The lineup set out to record the album Under the Gun and now they intend to bring it to the masses.

PICTURE ME BROKEN emerged in 2005 under the name “Lane Four” playing classic rock covers as 12 year olds. PICTURE ME BROKEN, however, was truly born when the band landed a spot on a date of Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour with their songs “Blind and “Live Forever.” PMB defines their sound as melodic hard rock with elements of screamo and post-hardcore. PICTURE ME BROKEN is all about live energy, catchy choruses, and intense breakdowns; ready to take over the music scene with their all energy, genre crossing approach to modern music. PICTURE ME BROKEN will be releasing a new EP this winter on Standby Records.
