SANCTUARY – announce “Inception” album details and launch trailer

Century Media Records and legendary US metal act SANCTUARY have set February 24th, 2017 as the release date of Inception, the official prequel to 1988’s classic debut “Refuge Denied”.
unnamedInception contains presumed lost 1986 studio recordings, which guitarist Lenny Rutledge discovered recently and which were magically restored, remixed and remastered by Zeuss (Queensrÿche, Hatebreed). You can watch the first video trailer here.
Guitarist Lenny Rutledge comments: “I found the masters in my barn. The second floor of the barn is on top of our current recording studio and is very rough and open to the elements. The ground level is where we recorded the bulk of ‘The Year The Sun Died’. We found the masters in an unknown box in the barn, full of water and just wasting away.
Zeuss explains further how the Inception album was realized: “I got a call one day and Lenny said that he had discovered these tapes and had them transferred to digital. I was in the area and stopped over to check it out. The recordings were still in decent shape. We agreed that we wanted it to sound as good as possible without taking away from the original vibe and vision of what the band had back then. After a year of mixing on and off we were able to resurrect these original demos. I hope everyone enjoys these recordings as much as I did working on them especially being a huge fan myself.
Recorded in March of 1986 (“Soldiers Of Steel”, “Battle Angels”) at Triad Studios in Redmond, Washington and Studio One in White Center between April and July 1986, Inception offers such previously unreleased highlights as “Dream of The Incubus” and “I Am Insane” as well as several classic Refuge Denied songs that are burning with fervour and intensity.
Apart from being expanded by art courtesy of Ed Repka, Inception is filled to the brim with tons of rare photos, flyers, early art designs, sketches plus detailed liner notes allowing you to delve deep into SANCTUARY’s history.
Inception will be released as Gatefold LP on 180 gram black and limited colored vinyl, includes an extensive LP-size booklet, poster, and the album on CD as additional extra. Apart from that it will be available as Special Edition CD Digipak and digital album.
Lenny concludes: “For me personally, I just wanted fans to be able to hear proper versions of the demos. They had a certain energy that was captured during the early days, maybe even more so than “Refuge Denied”. It’s no secret that you can find these on the internet but the quality is horrible. I think most people are under the impression that these are remastered or re-recorded versions of Refuge…”, but this is all a prequel!
With several European festivals already booked for next year, a new album in the works, Inception being released, 2017 shall be the year when past and future of SANCTUARY unite. Look forward to the next assault of the soldiers of steel!

CRIPPLE BASTARDS: Italian Hardcore/Grind Squad Releases New Track Via Decibel Magazine

In less than three weeks, longtime Italian hardcore terrorists, CRIPPLE BASTARDS, will disburse their harsh new LP, Nero In Metastasi, upon the masses via Relapse.

The band’s first full-length release for the label, the eighteen tracks on Nero In Metastasi arguably bear the most “metal” production in CRIPPLE BASTARDS‘ massive discography to date — an attribute acquired during its construction under the watch of producer Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden (Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity) — without impacting their rabid, unabashed political hardcore energy. A prime example of this is the album’s twelfth track, “Nemico A Terra,” which CB vocalist Giulio The Bastard translates to, “Enemy Down.” He delves, stating “It is a song about stubbornness in exacting revenge; never giving in to respite when focusing on your target.”

Let “Nemico A Terra” be the soundtrack to whatever justice you seek, as the track is now playing at Decibel RIGHT HERE.

The album’s “Malato Terminale” is also playing AT THIS LOCATION.

Nero In Metastasi will see release on CD, LP and digital formats via Relapse in North America onFebruary 18th, preceded by a February 14th street date in Germany/Benelux, and February 17th in the UK. Preorders for physical copies can be placed HERE and for iTunes HERE. Widespread CRIPPLE BASTARDS live actions corresponding with the album’s release are already in motion, as the band has been performing regionally in their home country, and a full tour of Japan and Australia is just weeks away, including performances at Obscene Extreme Asia and Obscene Extreme Australia. Then in May, the band will return to the US for an impending full tour of duty including a set at this year’s Maryland Deathfest 2014.

Previously unreleased “A Memory Construct” and “Sorrows Architect”, previously only available as a limited flexi 7″ released with issue #106 of Decibel Magazine.

“The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting D.T. album in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the dark tranquillity, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999’s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the track-list, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY parts ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson

283

Shortly before beginning the studio session for their upcoming 10th studio album, Construct, DARK TRANQUILLITY amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson.

This decision has been growing for awhile, and the main reason is that Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects, as well as work more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion.

With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.

We thank Daniel for his years in the band – filled with great shows, amazing memories, and experiences in all corners of the world – and wish him all the best with his future musical career.

Daniel’s statement:
“I want to thank the guys in DARK TRANQUILLITY and the amazing D.T. fans around the world for the last four years of touring around the globe! It´s been awesome! Also a huge hug to the DT crew and all of the people working with us. I will miss you all very much! You are like family to me and I hope we will meet again soon!

But…now is the time for me to follow my heart and again focus on my guitar playing and being a recording engineer/producer in my studio, Gothenburg Rock Studios. We will meet again on the road or in the studio – that’s for sure!

Horns up and Cheerz!”

DARK TRANQUILLITY to release new album, ‘Construct,’ in May 2013

The guardians of the Gothenburg sound, DARK TRANQUILLITY, released their first album 20 years ago and are still one of the most exciting bands in melodic death metal. New and old fans will be happy to hear that they are ready to announce their 10th album.

The band comments: “Greetings, Darklings! After having played over 200 shows in every corner of the world in support of the ‘We Are The Void’ album, it’s time to focus inwards and lock ourselves up in the studio. Months and months of hard songwriting work has paid off, and the recording sessions will start early this year. Further details will be announced in due time, but for now we can reveal that the album will be entitled ‘Construct’ and that we’re very excited to have Jens Bogren (PARADISE LOST, OPETH, KATATONIA) taking care of the mix. The release date is set for May 28 in North America.”

Fans can expect nothing but greatness with Construct, plus worldwide touring in support of the album in 2013 and beyond. The next chance to see DARK TRANQUILLITY live will be in Dubai, where the band has never played before. Some European summer festival appearances have also been announced, and the band is currently working on a US tour for this upcoming September. Stay tuned for more tour dates coming soon!

Evocation Guitarist Vesa Kenttäkumpu Answers PMM’s Burning Questions

One of the criticisms of Illusions of Grandeur among metal critics seems to be that your sound has changed on this effort and has been described as some to be “Amon Amarth meets Dark Tranquility”. How would you respond to these critics?

I´m honored because I love those bands. I think it is a natural way for Evocation to go, we are all from Sweden and Swedish death metal is quite similar to each other in a mystical way. And of course, all of us in those bands are the same age, so we have the same background and influences I think. The funny thing is when I write a song or a melody to Evocation, there always is a little bit of Finnish melancholy in it. I never think about how it sounds, I just write songs with a feeling I have. I think it is the same thing with Olli in Amon Amarth– he’s also Finnish like me, so maybe there is a connection to the roots somehow.

What type of influence did producer Robert Laghi have on the end product of Illusions of Grandeur?

Roberto supported us when we were recording and was kind of a mentor with tips about what we should think about in the recording session. He did not get involved in any kind of melodies on the album, just how to bring the melodies to the front. Roberto was also involved when Tomas did his vocals, and he was like a psychological mentor for him, supporting Tomas all the time and testing new kinds of grooves to the songs. And of course, he did the whole sound for the album with his beautiful mix, which I really love.

What are your favorite tracks from your catalog of songs to play live and why?

I think my favorite track is from our new album Illusions of Grandeur. The song’s name is “Divide and Conquer.” This song has everything; it has a groove, suitable melodies that the listener will remember, and it has a nice solo which I like very much. I love to do solos live because you have to be focused when you are playing it and that’s a challenge for me.

If you could tour with any three bands (existing or defunct), who would be on that “dream tour”?

A dream tour would be Entombed, Evocation and Edge of Sanity.

For the death metal uninitiated, what songs/artists would you recommend?

My favorite album that will always give me goose bumps is Entombed’s Left Hand Path. This album really has an epic sound, and it has melodies which are both very harmonious and brutal in a depressing kind of way. When I heard Left Hand Path for the first time, I said to myself, “I will start a band like this.” This album got me to do death metal, and I will never regret that.

What guitar gear setup are you using for this tour?

My setup is two guitars: Gibson Les Paul custom (black), ESP Eclipse (black and grey), which I always play on. The Gibson is for fun and for recording sessions at my home. The thing is that the guitar itself is very heavy on the shoulder, which is bad when you play a lot. The guitar gives you a twisted spine. The amp I use is an ENGL Savage 120, which is really good and it has a crispy nice sound. The cabinet I use is a Marshall 1969 with 25w greenback elements. And for my solos and lead stuff, I use an effect rack TC Electronics G-major, which is good to bring up the leads live.

Favorite thing and worst thing about touring in the U.S.?

I don’t know because I have never been to the US, so that’s a tricky one. 🙂 But we would love to come to the US for a tour. Let’s see what happens in the future.
