Spiritual Cramp play Pittsburgh w/ American Nightmare & No Warning @RexTheatre on Feb 23

Spiritual Cramp is THE band to catch in Cali right now and they’re playing Pittsburgh’s Rex Theatre on Feb 23 w/ American Nightmare & No Warning.   If you like late 70’s / early 80’s working-class rock or punk, chances are you’ll like this band LOTS…

Rock ‘n roll has always reflected disgruntled youth and its rockers often create sounds that are mimetic of their inner state – what is experienced in the day-to-day. For their first release, rightly named, ‘Mass Hysteria’, Spiritual Cramp relates this state of unease in a seemingly at ease system. The sounds borrow from the past, echoes of late 70’s / early 80’s working class rock and punk, which function on the upbeat, showcasing very bright guitars yet generating darker vocal rhythms and darker patterning.
Blowing up the Bay Area, Spiritual Cramp have quickly turned heads for their wild and unforgettable live shows up and down Cali’s coast — landing them a winter tour with American Nightmare and Pissed Jeans.
Play loud + stay tuned.

“Spiritual Cramp comes to the Bay Area in a time of need. San Francisco has always been a haven for artists, musicians, punks & freaks. But here, in 2017, these types have become more offhand than on–lesser, as if that side of our culture has been tucked in, put to sleep. But, no matter how much polish is applied, no matter how clean they try to make it, there will always be danger in the city.

What we’ve learned from this big change is that existing in an affluent society can feel just as oppressive as living in a disadvantaged society, especially if one doesn’t fit certain criteria of the dominating class. Rock ‘n roll has always reflected disgruntled youth and its rockers often create sounds that are mimetic of their inner state–what is experienced in the day-to-day.

For their first release, rightly named Mass Hysteria, Spiritual Cramp relates this state of unease in a seemingly at ease system. The sounds borrow from the past, echoes of late 70’s, early 80’s working class rock ‘n roll / punk, which function on the upbeat, showcasing very bright guitars, yet generating darker vocal rhythms, darker patterning.

Punk music and its sensibilities are all exemplified here, just as much in the visual as in the beat. “Violence keeps me up at night,” Vocalist, Michael Bingham repeats. And later, “My friends are alright.” Much of their inspiration has stemmed from UK77, Reggae Music, DIY/ hardcore / punk culture and ethics. Most of all from artist friends in the Bay Area and simple objects we find in the streets: a broken TV, telephone wires, that seemingly unimbued message that’s written on the wall. These quieter, more subdued artifacts somehow seem to say a lot about our experience, but when taking on this music, there is an urgency that portrays life in the city, life as a punk, life as of now (deathwishinc.com).”

BUTCHER BABIES LAUNCH PRE-ORDER FOR ‘LILITH’

NEW ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 27 ON CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD BEGINS NEXT MONTH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September, 8th 2017
Hollywood-based Metal outfit BUTCHER BABIES are set to release their third studio album, Lilith, on October 27th via Century Media Records. Today, the band is thrilled to announce that pre-orders for the new album are available now in both physical and digital formats. Speaking about the unique pre-order packages for Lilith, Carla Harvey (vocals) comments:
“In anticipation of ‘Lilith’, we wanted to offer unique pre-sale bundles that are special to us. Not only do we have the album, limited edition vinyl, and t-shirts up for grabs, but we are also offering limited edition items curated by myself and Heidi. One such item is a gorgeous lyric book for Lilith featuring never before seen illustrations by me and graphics by Heidi.  Another item is our signature Lilith pendant, a darling necklace handcrafted by us for our Butcher Army. You can find all the details on our pre-order site www.ButcherBabiesOfficial.com

Fans that pre-order Lilith will also receive the album’s title track as an Instant Grat. Speaking about the first offering from their new album, Heidi Shepherd (vocals) states:
“After a year of writing and recording we are thrilled with the growth and maturity of this album. Leading with our title track ‘Lilith’, the artistic development within the band shines. We worked with producer, Steve Evetts to bring you the rawest form of Butcher Babies. No auto-tune, 100% real drums, real guitars, real bass, and an all out Butcher Babies assault on your senses. As we know in this industry, these standards are quickly replaced by machines and can eliminate what makes a band an actual band. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that each member of our team put in to create this masterpiece.”
BUTCHER BABIES will make their much awaited return to the road in North America alongside Hollywood Undead as part of a two month run in the states. With shows already sold out in Hollywood, Des Moines, St. Louis, and Madison, WI, fans can find a complete list of dates below.

ANTHRAX RELEASE LIMITED EDITION “FOR ALL KINGS 7-INCH BOX SET”

Anthrax are due to release a real collector’s piece to accompany their last LP For All Kings which really showed that the band may have started in 1981 but are very far from slowing down creatively. It is an absolutely stunning collector’s item for any Anthrax fan as this unboxing video will illustrate – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU3e4hwzBR8&feature=youtu.be There have been band members who have come and gone and come back again with that time period, but on wax and live they are clicking on all cylinders.  Luckily the band will be hitting Pittsburgh next month with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada.

What makes the set special are the demo versions of many of the songs from For All Kings.  The raw intensity gives a “live” vibe that production polishing does not allow.  Of course, this might be an acquired taste for some, but true Anthrax fans and collectors will be thrilled.  The nuanced differences take a discerning ear at times, but give a bit of insight into the process of creation, particularly through the instrumentation working in syncopation.  Also, the box set has never released in the U.S tracks that were not readily available previously (Check out“Vice of the People,” the “new-to-the-U.S.” track https://goo.gl/DAqOML), as well as two cover songs, including an unexpected White Stripes tune (so perfect for a thrash make-over it’s sick).

Available exclusively in North America and released in conjunction with the band’s upcoming Spring co-headline tour with Killswitch Engage – “KillThrax” – thrash metal icon ANTHRAX – Frank Bello/bass, Scott Ian/guitar, Joey Belladonna/vocals, Charlie Benante/drums, Jonathan Donais/guitar – announces the release of the limited edition “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” (Megaforce Records).  The set goes on sale March 24, will retail for $79.99.

The “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” includes a removable lenticular cover and contains 10 7-inch vinyl discs featuring 20 songs – the 11 finished album tracks, two brand new covers (The White Stripes’ “Black Math” and the classic Kansas song “Carry On”), six demos from the FAK track listing, and “Vice of the People,” a bonus track previously released only in Japan and now making its North American vinyl debut.  The original album cover art sketch by Alex Ross is also part of this package, as well as a download card enabling the holder to access the Box Set’s track listing for free.

Each 7-inch disc features gorgeous, double-sided four-color artwork designed by Douglas Heusser with additional art by Stephen Thompson, as well as band photos by Jimmy Hubbard.  The tracks are pressed onto different-colored vinyl discs – red, green, blue, maroon, orange, most with a two-color swirl design.

“Doing a box set edition of ‘For All Kings’ was something that we’ve always wanted to do,” said Benante, who worked closely with Heusser and Thompson on the box set’s artwork.  “We wanted to do something special, something that was so much more than the original release, and have it be fun for our audience when they open it up, just be floored by the different colored vinyl, the artwork, everything that’s inside.  And we think we’ve done that.”

Superjoint release “Caught Up In The Gears Of Application”

dsc_6635SUPERJOINT was resurrected in 2015 after the original band broke up a decade earlier. At the behest of the late Corey Mitchell, co-founder of The Housecore Horror Film Festival, SUPERJOINT founders Philip H. Anselmo (Down, Pantera, Scour, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Arson Anthem et al), Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod), and Kevin Bond (Christ Inversion, Artimus Pyledriver et al) joined forces with longtime comrades, drummer José “Blue” Gonzalez (Warbeast, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals) and bassist Stephen Taylor (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Woven Hand, 16 Horse Power). A new era of the band was born.

Consequently, the band members found true joy in playing together again. After just two tours, new material followed culminating in the scathing sounds of Caught Up In The Gears Of Application. “The minute we started writing, I knew this record would be brutal,” reflects Bower. “Sticking to our true hardcore roots and signature SUPERJOINT sound, we accomplished a record that needed to happen in today’s underground. It’s pissed off! After being on hiatus for eleven-plus years, the chance at a new SUPERJOINT record wasn’t something we took lightly. With newcomers Steven and Joey, we were psyched and eager to get in the Lair and start writing and after two tours with the new lineup, we were able to hit the writing hard! Didn’t take long to accomplish, and we stood and smirked at the playback of what would be the new SUPERJOINT record. With songs like ‘Receiving No Answer To The Knock’ and ‘Sociopathic Herd Delusion’ we had everything to smirk about! This record brings our viscous style of hardcore back to life. Pissed off with everything to prove, SUPERJOINT is back!”

Adds Anselmo of the offering, ““The overall theme means many things, or no things, but there is an underlying message regardless, about how modern technology — computers and all that comes with them, mainly — has affected our lives. As a musician, it has affected my life both negatively (music being stolen) and positively (being in touch with fellow musicians around the world and staying visible). But when looking at the broader spectrum, computer-land has given everyday people a platform in which to bellow like carnival barkers about anything and everything, humdrum or political, whether qualified or not, some with good intentions, some with disingenuous intentions, and some with ideas that lay somewhere in the middle, creating a mishmash of results.”

Preorders bundles for SUPERJOINT’s Caught Up In The Gears Of Application are available via Housecore at THIS LOCATION. For digital preorders, point your browser HERE or HERE.

SUPERJOINT will bring their venom to the stage for their official record release show on November 12th, 2016 in Dallas, their only US appearance of the year. Tickets are on sale now!

BRIGHTON -- New Record by THE SHONDES -- 9.16.16
The Shondes – Brighton album trailer
When The Shondes released The Garden (Exotic Fever 2013), frontwoman Louisa Solomon said it was “an album about growing up,” and she had no idea how right she was.Rolling Stone’s 4-star review dubbed it “Riot-grrrl furor, arena bombast and klezmer stomp,” while The Washington Post said: “Every time I’ve seen The Shondes, a hurricane has touched down. Violinist Elijah Oberman rocks his instrument like the world is ending. Louisa Solomon sings like her soul is leaping out of her mouth. Every time I wondered when the band would break big.” With this game-changing wave of critical praise, followed by a national tour with punk legends Against Me!, the scrappy, heart-on-their-sleeves New Yorkers were truly coming into their own, and they set right to work on their follow-up, Brighton (Exotic Fever 2016).

On this record we find the band delivering their signature power hooks, charming group harmonies, and clap-along breakdowns with a new ease and sophistication. It feels lighter, more confident, less forced; where they once fought for hope, willed anthems into being, they now sound effortlessly alive. This is in no small part due to the founding pair (best friends Oberman and Solomon) alighting on the right lineup. Drummer Alex Smith and guitarist Courtney Robbins were both recruited in 2015, with Robbins relocating from Tucson. There is an unmissable and even magical cohesion among the four, as though with this level of musicianship, a burden has lifted and the music can finally bloom into the satisfying, spirited pop-rock it always wanted to be. They have been described as “Bruce Springsteen-meets-Bikini Kill,” and on Brighton they add serious pop appeal to the formula that will have you punching your fist in the air despite yourself.

With Smith’s cracking snare rousing any listener to full attention, her rock-solid drumming anchors the absolute powerhouse that is Robbins’s guitar. Un-ironically revelling in a wailing solo on one track and creating a tapestry of delicate, twinkling overlays on the next, it dramatically amplifies each song’s emotional pay-off. Springsteen biographer Peter Ames Carlin said Solomon has “better-stand-back vocals…one of the biggest voices in pop,” and she has been compared to the likes of Chrissie Hynde and Corin Tucker, but on Brighton the band provides a foundation for both her signature belt and a gentler head voice rarely utilized on past records. Oberman’s alternatingly keening and raucous violin is its perfect complement, shining in solos and skillful counterpoint. The overall effect is a more dynamic version of a beloved rock band; losing none of their anthemic power, they have crafted eminently joyful, emotionally complex rock songs.

In 2015 Solomon married poet Miller Oberman (yes, much to fans’ delight, he is violinist Elijah’s brother), and many of these songs are in some sense “love songs,” though the most consistent theme of the record is transformation, steering it away from the pitfalls of pop cliché, and toward something much more interesting. The Shondes have always prided themselves on their ability to get a cynic singing along, and they’ve never been in finer form than on this collection in which love, neglect, survival, despair, and hope are inescapably bound. Brighton is a record about turning toward possibility and building beautiful things out of wreckage, and it offers a much-needed soundtrack for the broken and broken-hearted among us who are trying to do just that.

ON TOUR THIS AUGUST

“Perfection refracted… The hooks are still there, buried under hairpin-bent notes and a blanket of reverb that would make anyone but the Jesus & Mary Chain blush.” – SPIN

“Double Vanity is somewhat of a tonal shift from their last album-they’ve gotten a little smoother, a little slower, and a little sexier… [“Fantasy Boys”] sounds like the romantic final slow dance scene from a sexy late ’80s movie.” – The Fader

“You know a song is good when it makes you shiver a little and it’s not just because the air con is on full blast.” – Noisey
“Equal parts psych and blues, ‘Señora Borealis’ pushes Broncho’s sound to the apex, with washes of vocal effects and reverb coating every inch of the track.” – AV Club
“Dirge-paced rhythms offset with beautifully spacey guitars that wouldn’t sound out of place on a peak-era Cure album.” – The 405

BRONCHO – DOUBLE VANITY:
Blasted grassland, the thin ribbon line of the freeway unspooling beneath wheels, skies stretched wide between mountaintop. It is dream music, foggy, atmospheric, the melodies you hear while you gazing out through fingerprint smeared windows into a constantly moving, metamorphosing landscape….
It makes sense then, that BRONCHO was born out of out a film project, its initial incarnation sparked when founder Ryan Lindsey was asked to create music “to set to an early 80s punk film.” “That’s all I knew about it,” he remembers, “they were looking for songs that touched this era. And songs kept coming to me and turned something on inside of me artistically.” Lindsey found himself in the midst of prolific run of songs and he liked the idea “of starting out there and seeing where it could go.”
What’s evolved from those first tracks there has been a steady run of success, critical accolades and two full-length albums: 2011’s Can’t Get Past the Lips and 2014’s Just Enough Hip to Be Woman. And beneath it all, the music has been constantly mutating and ceaselessly experimental. From that first inception as a soundtrack in 2010, BRONCHO has taken on a life of its own. The initial inspiration is still there, but now pushing far beyond the stiff confines of score. What began as an ode to ramshackle, high-energy early punk has become something deeper, weirder, and much more nuanced.  The undercurrent of early 1980s punk is still there, but The Ramones pogo has been replaced more often by a kind of Love and Rockets-inspired, honeyed, cotton-mouthed drift.
Double Vanity is Lindsey and bandmates Ben King, Nathan Price and Penny Pitchlynn steadily moving ahead, transforming the raw angst of the first record into a sound decidedly more layered and complex. Tracks like “New Karma” or “Two Step” riff off the later explorations of punk, culling up refracted images of John Hughes prom nights, love songs echoing from a boombox held high. “Jenny Loves Jenae” and “Speed Demon” strut with a 80s-meets-50s swagger, discord transformed into a jagged, frenetic pop. “Señora Borealis” is all bad boy sneer – sensual, moody, with a sly and predatory swagger.  “I Know You” is simultaneously infectious and brooding, somehow both exalting and heartsick.
The result is a record that veers gleefully from BRONCHO’s roots, moving from graffiti sprayed backrooms into a sleeker, plusher sound, a place bright with the polished gleam of chrome and bleached white sunlight. Close your eyes and what you feel is the raw wound pulse of adolescence; what you see behind your lids is suburban shopping mall wastelands, glazed eyes, dead grass, lips glossed in bubblegum pink. There is the burst chest thump of teenage longing, the smell of hairspray and cigarettes. There is glow of neon and the glint of streetlight rolling across hood.
Double Vanity evokes a shared nostalgia for the past and for the unknown future, as BRONCHO takes a turn off the wide freeways and into a world of intimate, intricate – but always universal – emotion.

DEAD TO A DYING WORLD: Dallas Apocalyptic Crust Sextet Confirms Immense Sophomore Album

Dallas, Texas-based blackened doom congregation, DEAD TO A DYING WORLD,will enter the studio in the near future to record the band’s sophomore full-length release. The band is preparing to record this time with renowned sonic decimation engineer, Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins), who will undertake the arduous task of harnessing their massive sophomore album. The new opus, bearing the title Litany, will take the band’s already powerful chaos-driven approach to new chasms of sonic exploration, with enough material planned to fill two full 12″ platters, as with their debut release. Litanywill also feature collaborations and contributions from members of Sabbath Assembly, Pinkish Black, and Ecocide.

Litany was developed with the themes of isolation, insanity, and reflection in a time of global devastation, evoking the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth; this new chapter reveals the aftermath of the self-titled release. From the ashes, we find three warring clans who personify each theme and embody their own unique struggles, each clan has sought their own way of survival in an unforgiving world, some in search for higher meaning, and others through methods of irrevocable cruelty. These concepts are explored individually and finally together, representing by synecdoche, our own struggles in modern society.

Further info on the album’s label destination, release date and more will be available upon completion of Litany in the coming months.

Founded in 2010, DEAD TO A DYING WORLD incorporates cello, violins, and upright bass elements and more into a morose but intimidating end-time style of doom, with a putrid, blackened weight to their waves of slow-motion, Apocalypse inspired doom dirges and a harrowing double-vocalist approach. With several tours in different regions of the countries since inception, the band’s self-titled 2xLP album was produced by Phillip Cope of Kylesa and released via Tofu Carnage Records in 2011.
