Today, the band has launched a mini documentary for Proponent for Sentience online, which gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album with footage from the studio. To watch the video, please visit:youtube.com | vimeo.com
In support of Proponent for Sentience, Allegaeon will head out on the road with Max & Iggor Cavalera Return To Roots, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Combichrist for a North American trek that kicks off next week. See below for all dates.
Allegaeon tour dates
Produced by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation), Proponent for Sentience is a musically complex, intelligent, and absorbing concept record that can rightfully sit alongside the true greats of the medium. With a lyrical arc rooted in science-fiction yet uncomfortably encroaching upon the reality of the present, it captures the Fort Collins, Colorado natives at their most ambitious and accomplished, pushing the boundaries even further than on their three previous critically acclaimed full-lengths. For another preview of Proponent for Sentience, be sure to check out the following previously released tracks:
Proponent for Sentience can be pre-ordered now at:metalblade.com/allegaeon. See below for format details:

|Whitechapel reveals final round of confirmed dates for co-headlining USA tour with Suicide Silence this fall
As previously announced, Whitechapel will co-headline a USA run withSuicide Silence this fall! Sponsored by BlackCraft Cult Clothing (blackcraftcult.com), the “Straight Outta Hell” tour also features Carnifex andOceano as support, with Despised Icon appearing at select shows. This must-see trek kicks off in late September and ends in late October – see below for all confirmed dates!
Whitechapel tour dates
Whitechapel recently completed an extensive trek across the USA on the annual Warped Tour, touring in support of their sixth full-length, Mark of the Blade. Hailed as “an exciting milestone” (Alt Press), Mark of the Blade was produced by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Cannibal Corpse) and sees Whitechapel redefine who they are and what they are capable of with the resulting 11 tracks. Kicking off with “The Void” – which has a Slayer-esque ferocity that is perfectly suited to the band’s three-guitar attack – the songs that follow all leave a distinct impression, and by the time the rich, dark melodies on “Decennium” bring the record to a close, it’s impossible to deny the emotional weight brought to bear. Alex Wade explains, “At this point in our career and as we grow older, we are taking a more open-minded approach to creating our music, allowing what we think sounds good to evolve naturally, rather than to just write what is expected of us.”
To purchase Mark of the Blade in various formats, please visit:metalblade.com/whitechapel – where the video for the latest single, “Elitist Ones”, can also be viewed.
The States have been fortunate as of late, having Danish “metalbilly” band Volbeat tour here with some stalwart bands. Last time around it was Anthrax and Crobot and the current tour is with Killswitch Engage and Black Wizard. Volbeat’s current line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, guitarist Rob Caggiano, drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen and they have a rep for bringing the goods. Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie was released worldwide on June 3 and their sixth record is one of their strongest starting off with singles, “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown” and “For Evigt” (Forever) or the English version”The Bliss”. Pittsburgh’s show at Stage AE was exceptional and there was a great blend of old and new material to entertain fans (see set below). Poulsen was a commanding presence and the acquisition of Anthrax’s Caggiano is certainly the coup of the band’s history. The new record picks up where Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies left off and their performance of the new tunes was spot on.
Metalcore act Killswitch Engage returned to Pittsburgh as well after a few years of absence again with lead singer Jesse Leach in tow. No offense to Howard Jones (in between singer of KSE), but Leach’s return to the fold has made them more entertaining than ever. Due to the intense heat, the stage antics of Adam Jonathan Dutkiewicz were a bit more subdued than usual, but the intensity was amped to replace the jumping around. KSE is firing on all cylinders right now and seems to be even more back in the groove than ever before, making them a band to truly watch rise in popularity (if that’s possible).
Vancouver’s Black Wizard opened and brought their brand of doom-stoner metal to the masses. These guys are definitely onto something as they have a great sound, look, and cool throwback chops. You can check them out here http://www.blackwizard.org/.

We are not always the easiest animal to please some say, but really we are as simple to figure out as microwave popcorn. The rock n’ rollers in your life consume all things that have anything to do with music and the lifestyle. The hardest thing about us is that we usually go out and get what we want so fast you never have a chance to get it for us. So, unless you are going to creep on our Amazon Wishlist and hope we don’t snap up some of those goodies before the Holidays hit, may Pittsburgh Music Magazine suggest some easy as one, two, three gifts that the music maniac in your life didn’t know that they wanted but will absolutely love:
1. Off the beaten path box sets:
I love quirky box sets that not only have cool tunes, but some extras thrown in that a consumer would not expect. Jack White’s Third Man Record’s is offering The Paramount Records Wonder Cabinet Available at thirdmanstore.com. ‘The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932,’ “an epic, two-volume omnibus of art, words and music housed in a limited-edition, hand-sculpted cabinet-of-wonder” features 800 newly-remastered digital tracks, representing 172 artists, 200+ fully-restored original 1920s ads and images, 6x 180g vinyl LPs pressed on burled chestnut colored vinyl w/ hand-engraved, blind-embossed gold-leaf labels, housed in a laser-etched white birch LP folio, 250 page deluxe large-format clothbound hardcover art book , 360 page encyclopedia-style softcover field guide containing artist portraits and full Paramount discography, a handcrafted quarter-sawn oak cabinet with lush sage velvet upholstery and custom-forged metal hardware, and a first-of-its-kind music and image player app, allowing user mgmt of all tracks and ads, housed on custom-designed USB drive. Cool stuff, but It’s a bit pricey at $400. If you have a metalhead in the fam, like yours truly, head on over to The Metal Blade Store and check out the amazing prices they have on box sets up to 60% of As I Lay Dying, Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, and much more.
2. Alcohol…need I say more
Now unless your rocker has had to swear off (no shame in that my friends), a sure fire way to many a bleeding rebels heart is through his or her throat. You could go the boring route and buy the case of beer you know they like or the bottle of liquor they always drink or you could go high class. Recently, one of my best friend turned me onto Tequila. I’m not talking about ‘To-Kill-Ya’ that we all have had some ‘nights best left forgotten’ drinking. These are high quality tequilas that taste and go down like nothing you have ever had before. Let me recommend the best-o-the best: Dobel Tequila is a blend of Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo tequilas which have been gently filtered and give the tequila an incredible Diamond Clarity and crispness that is unlike anything that has crossed my palate. It’s the purity combined with the complexity derived from the aged tequilas makes Reserva del Maestro Dobel a completely unique experience. I would have never believed it had it not been for my buddie’s Tequila Bar in his establishment and a unique taste test experience. This is a small batch tequila that is hand crafted, aged in oak casks, and then get this…hand labeled and numbered. We wrote the company and they were kind enough to offer our readers a FREE recipe book at this link. Trust me on this one it’s a sure fire winner…and make sure they crack it open with you!
3. Something from “their band”
We all have our favorite bands. Some of us have one and some of us have so many we can’t count. The thing is whomever you are into, these days there a plethora of off the wall memorabilia and collector items that can be found relatively easily all depending on how much you want to search. Luckily the internet is truly your friend here. First, check the band’s website because they often have the cool stuff right under your nose. Also, check Amazon because they have some pretty cool stuff as well. But pages like Etsy, EBay, Rockabilia, and Rock N Roll Action Figures to name a few have some hidden gems within them that are sure to please.
Regardless, Happy Holiday, be safe, and I hope my wife is reading this (hints, hints!!!)

Vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway comments about this upcoming trek:
“Twice in the USA in the space of a year? Must pinch ourselves a little harder. It’s like 22 years ago all over again. Well, the MUNICIPAL WASTE trip was a very beautiful thing, and we found things to be very vibrant and people rolled out in force. So Albert from Decibel asked us back in an excited voice, and we said ‘Oh, go on then’ in an excited voice, and thus we’ll be seeing you sooner rather than later. It’ll be fast, it’ll be furious – guaranteed.”
Dates for the tour are below– be prepared for a crusher this spring! In the meantime, fans can pick up the latest issue of Decibel Magazine for a NAPALM fix. Featuring a foreword penned by Barney, this special 100th issue is available for purchase in stores and online here.

Returning with the ceaselessly hostile Torture, Cannibal Corpse prove that when it comes to combining unrestrained maliciousness, involving song writing and technical precision they still have no equal, once again fortifying their position at the forefront of death metal. The twelfth full-length of their inspiring twenty-four year career, the Floridian quintet have never sounded so vital, the album building upon the wealth of powerful, dark, and memorable songs comprising 2006’s Kill and 2009’s Evisceration Plague and pointedly upping the ante at every turn. While this marks the latest progression in the band’s sound, Torture also witnesses a return to what drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz accurately terms “the frenzied attack of Butchered At Birth (1991) or Tomb Of The Mutilated (1992)”, infusing the band’s advanced musicianship with the raw savagery that haunted their earlier releases, and in the process conceiving the definitive Cannibal Corpse record.

Due to an overwhelming demand from metal fans worldwide, Grammy-nominated and Juno award-winning Banger Films is setting out to raise funds to make what has become known as “The Lost Episode” a reality. Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal “The Lost Episode” covers co-director Sam Dunn’s favorite genres: Death Metal, Black Metal and Grindcore, and he is reaching out to metal fans to help make it happen:
“Hundreds of fans have emailed us demanding, pleading, that we do this episode,” says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. “So in response we’re launching an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funding within the Metal community to finance the episode. The goal is to raise $175,000 in 90 days!” The campaign kicked off Friday, September 14th. Details of the campaign, including cool donor gifts at various contribution levels can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/ExtremeMetal
Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on their “Heavy Metal Family Tree” originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Host and metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn crisscrossed the globe exploring the vast history of Heavy Metal across its 40+ year history, covering everything from the Pre-History of Metal and Shock Rock to Grunge and Thrash Metal. But one very important episode was left out: Extreme Metal. Perceived to be perhaps too niche or “extreme” to attract enough audience interest, the episode did not see the light of day, ironic considering it is Heavy Metal’s most vibrant and fastest growing genre.
“For many fans, including myself, extreme metal is massively important. It continues to push metal forward, both sonically and aesthetically,” says Sam. Alex Webster, co-founder/bass player of death metal legends Cannibal Corpse, agrees: “There’s really no way that you could tell the complete story of heavy metal without including a chapter that covers extreme metal. And given their knowledge, experience, and passion for the genre of heavy metal, I think that Banger Films are the most qualified people to do it!”
Contributors’ support will send Sam on a global journey from San Francisco and Tampa to the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden to investigate the history, myths and intricacies of extreme metal. Sam will unravel the lineage between Extreme Metal’s divergent branches – Death Metal, Grindcore and Black Metal – and meet with the sub-genre’s most influential sonic architects, including members of Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Napalm Death, Entombed, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Enslaved and many more. The result will be an unforgettable portrait of metal’s most iconoclastic sub-genre.

Hot off of Revolver Magazine’s Press: “Slipknot have officially announced the first installment of their very own music festival, Knotfest. The festival will take place over two days, the first being August 17 in Iowa and the second being August 18 in Somerset, on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
“It’s all about having fun and bringing something to the world of rock & roll, bringing it to the standard it used to be,” Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan recently told Rolling Stone. “It’s time for us to really engulf this idea known as Knotfest where we’re in control, we make a day devoted to our mindset, our ideas, the people that we want to play with, the people that we think our fans want to be around.”
Joining the band for the inaugural edition of Knotfest will be a stellar lineup including: Lamb of God, Deftones, Dethklok, Serj Tankian, Cannibal Corpse and more.
According to Rolling Stone, the festival will also include “big-top tents, pillars of fire, amusement park rides, burlesque performers, firebreathers, stilt walkers, drum circles made of junkyard cars and graffiti walls,” and a Slipknot museum to top it all off.”
