Metallica Launches Website for Their Foundation, All Within My Hands and Partners with Starbucks and Spotify for ‘Give Good’ Campaign

In February of this year, Metallica announced the formation of their All Within My Hands Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting and enriching the lives of the members of the communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services. Today, the band has launched the website, www.allwithinmyhands.org to keep fans up to date on the foundation, new activities, and the specific causes being supported. Fans can sign up for the e-mail list HERE to receive updates.

To celebrate the launch of the new website, as part of their “Give Good” campaign Starbucks and Spotify are donating $1 million to be divided between All Within My Hands, Chance The Rapper’s Social Works, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation. To commemorate the partnerships, starting today (Tuesday, November 28th) limited edition gift cards featuring each artist will be available at 8,000 Starbucks stores throughout the U.S. while supplies last. Visit www.Starbucks.com to find your closest Starbucks store with available gift cards.
Metallica have long taken pride in giving back to their community and have played at many benefit concerts over the years, including the Bridge School Benefit Concerts (appearing three times), the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concerts, Live Earth, Global Citizen, and most recently Band Together Bay Area. The band has donated proceeds from ticket sales and album releases to various charitable organizations, including Fondation de France‘s Give For France and Gilda’s Club NYC. Additionally, Metallica has met extensively with Make-A-Wish participants and supported local food banks around the world. Lastly, the band launched a partnership with Crowdrise encouraging fans to donate through their site for the chance to win tickets, meet & greets, access to pre-show parties and snake pit passes, and more.

ABOUT METALLICA
Metallica was formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide while playing to millions of fans on literally all seven continents. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as The Black Album), with sales of nearly 17 million copies in the United States alone, making it the best-selling album in the history of Soundscan. Metallica has also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.  In December 2013, Metallica made history when they performed a rare concert in Antarctica, becoming the first act to ever play all seven continents all within a year, and earning themselves a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Metallica’s latest album Hardwired…To Self Destruct was released on November 18, 2016 on Metallica’s own Blackened Recordings record label and debuted at No. 1 around the world, selling over 800,000 copies worldwide in its first week. Metallica recently wrapped the North American leg of its WorldWired tour and will continue with the European leg in early 2018.

The story of GWAR is carved across the history of this barren and hopeless planet, but GWAR themselves are not of this world… their story begins in the deepest reaches of outer space. Long ago, the beings who would become the rock band GWAR were part of an elite fighting force, the Scumdogs of the Universe. For eons, they served as thralls to a supreme being known only as the Master. But one by one, each future member of the band earned a glaring reputation for being an intergalactic fuck-up. And so, they were banished, sent away on a fool’s errand to conquer an insignificant shitball floating in a dark corner of the universe; the planet Earth.  Once here, GWAR shaped the face of the globe, destroying and rebuilding the natural world, and giving rise to all of human history. Aliens to some, gods and demons to others, our erstwhile Scumdogs fucked apes to create the human race, and this fateful unplanned pregnancy would prove to be truly disastrous!

Their new album, “The Blood of Gods” is nothing less than a sacred text chronicling the rise of humanity against their makers, and the massive battle between GWAR and the forces of all that is uptight and wrong with the world. Along the way, the band challenges the sins of their great mistake, from politics, pollution, and organized religion, to fast food, and factory farming. Humans are shown as what they are; a parasitical disease that must be eradicated before they suck the planet dry. Meanwhile, Sleazy P. Martini, the crooked entrepreneur who discovered the Scumdogs, and has always envisioned them as a sort of horrific boy band, finally managed to convince the group to write a hit song called “I’ll Be Your Monster.” If all goes according to plan, it may be just stupid enough to work!

Of course, “The Blood of Gods” is the first GWAR album without the band’s fallen leader, Oderus Urungus. The title of the album refers to the loss of Oderus. and the struggles and triumphs that produced the new sound of the band. Born of adversity, “The Blood of Gods” is a sonic scar…a question asked and answered…Death cannot kill GWAR. Nothing can. GWAR LIVES MOTHERFUCKERS!

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas playing @Smiling Moose on October 10th

Jessica is on the road in support of her critically acclaimed sophomore album “Telephone / Telefono,” a bilingual recording that sees Jessica upping the ante on her already one-of-a-kind sound-clash of pop, psychedelic rock and punk cabaret, with fresh and emotive Spanish and English recordings.
Jessica fuses “the ska/punk ethos of Save Ferris and the roaring range of Amy Winehouse” – Noisey
A second generation Cuban and Mexican-American, Jessica felt it her duty to further explore her own Hispanic heritage on the band’s new record. Jessica pushed herself to use Spanish in ways she had never previously attempted; rewriting songs with the invaluable aid of her mates in Mexico City, paying close attention to the song’s translations, sentence structure and phrasing.
NPR’s Alt Latino says “Telephone/Teléfono, will no doubt appeal to fans across several continents as Hernandez created the songs in both English and Spanish versions … [songs] ‘Hummingbird’/‘Colibrí’ highlights how beautifully Hernandez manages this delicate balancing act — and, while she’s at it, warms up Motown-infused garage-rock with touches of tropical psych-cumbia and punk cabaret.”
Check out the official videos for the Paste Magazine approved new songs “Run Too Far” and “Hot Damn.” http://bit.ly/2osJ9WE  http://bit.ly/2sAqP4D
“Ever since we heard the sliding horns of 2014’s ‘Sorry I Stole Your Man,’ we’ve paid witness to Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas’ experimentations with soul and burlesque rock ’n’ roll. Now, that distinctive sound is being employed to explore the resistant power of language.” – Remezcla
“Telephone / Telefono” is the follow up to Jessica’s acclaimed debut “Secret Evil” which NPR raved “has it all” and “song after song, one thing is consistent: a powerful, undeniable voice.”

Industrial-Rock Icons PIG @Cattivo 8/12

PIG are setting out on a North America tour. Raymond Watts is the mastermind behind PIG. He is also a founding member of the legendary band KMFDM. They will be on tour with Julien-K (ex-Orgy members) and Ghostfeeder. The tour is in support of their new album “The Gospel” and EP “Prey & Obey”. Below you can find the video for title track of their new EP.

<PÎG> is Raymond Watts, a British musician whose brand of electronic rock is danceable and deadly serious in turn. Watts’s words spring from the well of gallows humour in a world of corruscating cruelty and truth. <PÎG> climbs peaks and mines troughs, and musical genres slide and collide like tectonic plates.

Berlin years
In 1986 Raymond Watts awoke in West Berlin. It was a time of terror and turmoil, in a city so depraved and decadent that the East Germans had walled it in. Watts had cut his teeth on tape loops in London and Hamburg, but inspired by Berlin’s fetid air and his first 8-bit sampler, Watts gave birth to <PÎG> in 1988, when <PÎG> was cut from his belly with a rusty screwdriver in a basement opposite The Wall. The first squeals were committed to tape, and saw the light of day as A Poke in the Eye. Wax Trax! jumped to release it.

A year earlier, in Hamburg, he was bludgeoning the first KMFDM album into shape with En Esch and Sascha Konietzko. He had also helped deliver the sonic slaughter of Einsturzende Neubauten, Psychic TV and most of the Berlin and Hamburg underground, as both live and studio sound engineer, and producer.

After writing the music for the second KMFDM album, Watts then slipped away to tour with Foetus, playing keyboards and guitar.

Praise the Lard
When The Wall collapsed, the party was over. Watts returned to London and <PÎG> albums poured forth: Praise the Lard, A Stroll in the Pork, Shit For Brains, Red Raw & Sore and The Swining. Watts programmed, produced and performed, ploughing a lone furrow until Karl Hyde, singer and sinner with Underworld, came to his assistance on guitars followed by Steve White.

Watts had also developed a taste for all things Japanese. His label was based there, his morals were parked there and <PÎG> had toured there many times. He was soon involved with a highly successful bunch of ne’er-do-wells called Schaft. Their album Switchblade, and a sold-out tour, followed.

Back to Wax Trax!
In 1994, <PÎG> opened for NIN. This led to <PÎG>’s Sinsation album being released on Nothing Records — and then a return to Wax Trax! for Wrecked.

Watts also rejoined KMFDM in 1994, for the <PÎG> v KMFDM EP Sin, Sex & Salvation. On the ensuing album Nihil Watts resumed writing and vocal duties and several heaving tours followed, with Watts orchestrating the chaos from centre stage like a rampant ringmaster armed only with talent and tequila.

Monster
When not on tour, Watts could be found in his Ranch Apocalypse studios in London, working on <PÎG>’s No One Gets Out of Her Alive, Prime Evil, Disrupt Degrade & Devastate and the KMFDM albums Symbols, Attak and WW111. On the album Genuine American Monster, Watts reunited with legendary guitarist Guenter Schulz.

While in Toyko, Watts gave birth to the band Schwein with Sascha Konietzko and the Japanese musicians Sakurai and Imai. The albums Schweinstein, Son Of Schweinstein and a sold-out tour ensued.

After releasing the <PÎG> album Pigmartyr (Pigmata on Metropolis), Watts spent time in London indoctrinating his piglets and initiating them into the parish of the pork. When not leading his children down the path of righteousness, he could be found writing music for fashion and films for Alexander McQueen, Chloe, Marios Schwab, Halston, The Row and others. He also wrote music and did sound design for Punk: Chaos to Couture, the exhibition at the Met in New York.

Savage Beauty
In the final show before his death, Alexander McQueen commissioned Watts and John Gosling, Watts’s old partner-in-crime from Psychic TV days, to embellish the serene instrumental track Inside, from <PÎG>’s Genuine American Monster album. This became the soundtrack to what is seen as McQueen’s masterpiece, Plato’s Atlantis. This show was reprised as the finale of Savage Beauty, the McQueen retrospective that broke all records at the Met in New York and the V&A in London. He also wrote other original music and did sound design for the show.

Last year, in 2015, <PÎG> dipped his trotter in the trough once more, and released both the much lauded <PÎG> v Primitive Race EP Long in the Tooth, and the Compound Eye Sessions: <PÎG> v MC Lord of the Flies (aka Marc Heal, of Cubanate).

The Gospel
The Primitive Race collaboration brought together Watts and Mark Thwaite, of The Mission, Tricky and Peter Murphy fame, amongst many others. Together they set about writing what would become the main column of misery around which the new <PÎG> album, The Gospel, has been built. Watts’ newest partner in swine, Z. Marr of Combichrist fame, shared production and writing duties.

The new <PÎG> album, The Gospel, is a collection of twelve songs of ruin, redemption, resolution and resurrection. Across this tale of grime and punishment En Esch and Guenter Schulz leave their unmistakable trail of greasy fingerprints.

2016 tour
<PÎG> will be alive and kicking across North America this fall, on the American Excess tour. The live band will comprise Raymond Watts, En Esch, Guenter Schulz, Z. Marr and Galen Waling.

Which YES is the real YES?

The manager, Brian Lane, of YES featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman would like to issue the following statement:

“It would help prevent confusion among the fan base if the other YES band would identify their key members as we have. If you just want to see the original YES this summer, YES featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, RicWakeman is the band for you.”
He wants to make it clear, under no uncertain terms, that Jon Anderson is the co-founder and the original creative soul of of the band YES and is not a member in the band that is touring under the name YES for the YESTIVAL SUMMER 2017 TOUR. The Fall Of Hearts Tour: Katatonia, Caspian, and Uncured in Pittsburgh @MrSmalls

Katatonia have long displayed a masterful propensity for expressing the tears and torments of mortality, offering sumptuous glimmers of sonic hope to soothe our troubled souls,” so states the biography of the band via their website.  It’s not a boast it is simply a fact.  The 25-year-old band out of Stockholm has survived the test of time by consistently producing heavy tonal music that is in a category all its own.  Never relying on the same output of tunes, Katatonia has repeatedly reinvented themselves without losing themselves, or their audience. As Anders Nyström (guitar) has stated, “Our musical signals and language have changed considerably from 1993 to 2016, but I can still sense a common message in the atmosphere sustaining since day one. Maybe you could call us a progressive metal band with a deep passion for non-metal music? It’s easy to reach all the branches in the tree and let them sway when you have a firm root to climb (http://katatonia.com/biography/).”

Opening with “Last Song Before The Fade” from their new album, The Fall of Hearts, Katatonia was quick to set the intense somber tone of the evening (Set List below via Setlist.fm).  With sparse lighting and foreboding swirls of the deepest, darkest metal the band put on a soulful and unforgettable performance.

Caspian, a post-rock band from Beverly, MA were a good pairing for Katatonia as they are not as dark, but just as musically intense and talented.  At times reminiscent of a metal U2, the band has performed on the Last Call With Carson Daly which highlighted their atmospheric songwriting.

Uncured is a young progressive metal band out of NYC following in the vein of Opeth, Dream Theater, Mastodon, and Gojira.  The band has a bright future considering the critical praise for their EP release and their newly release LP on March 10. 2017.

January 30, 2017 — FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY have debuted a brand new music video for their newest track “Heads Will Hang” today exclusively via Alternative Press. Directed by Max Moore,(CODE ORANGE, OF MICE AND MEN) this is the first music video the band has released from their upcoming new release. Founding guitarist / producer Will Putney comments, “The concept behind the song/video was to set a scenario in America where a normal happy family was placed in a similar extreme situation, in the hope that it creates a certain feeling of empathy for what less fortunate nations are experiencing right now. And to shed some light on just how close we are to the same tragedies hitting our homes.”

“People in the United States always seems to form these really strong opinions about war, refugees, and other crisis situations in third world nations without really having the perspective of what’s actually happening there,” says Putney. “Everyone’s guilty of it to some extent; a lot of us live very privileged lives in comparison to other pockets of the world, where the basic comforts like clean water, power, shelter, and safety are not guaranteed.”

Fit For An Autopsy will release The Great Collapse on March 17, 2017 via Entertainment One (eOne) / Good Fight Music in North America and SPV overseas. Artist Adam Burke was tapped to create the visually stunning cover art seen below.

The Great Collapse will be the the band’s fourth full length record, continuing the momentum gained from a solid 200+ days of worldwide touring backing the buzz-worthy release of Absolute Hope Absolute Hell in late 2015, as well The Depression Sessions, a split release with The Acacia Strain and Thy Art Is Murder in 2016. Putney adds, “It’s going to be the strongest record in our catalog. The overall mood and atmosphere of this album feels fully realized and emotionally stirring.”

The crushing music of Fit For An Autopsy is for any fan of extreme metal, as it’s devoid of preachy politics or grandstanding soapboxing, but its sound and fury is absolutely unflinching in purpose. The band expertly blends excessive-force fueled death metal with atmospheric groove and impassioned personal diatribes, reflecting back the dark state of current events. Their fourth album, The Great Collapse, doesn’t waste time with fantasy bullshit or cliché gore horror. Fit For An Autopsy are metal guys, to be certain, but they grew up in the hardcore scene. They embrace the responsibility to put as much devoted purpose into their lyrics and message as they do into their dense, heady, songs, forging a magnificently powerful new post-deathcore.

“When I write a song, I’m trying to feel emotionally connected to it. I really don’t like saying things that don’t matter over music that I want to matter,” says Putney, guitarist, principal songwriter and cofounder. “We’ve always addressed serious topics going back to our first album. We aren’t a politically charged band up on a podium yelling at people – anybody can relate to the aggression, anger, frustration, and sadness often communicated in our music. But we absolutely raise important questions in the lyrics. Those themes are there to discover.”

Putney’s fellow guitarist/cofounder, Patrick Sheridan, strongly agrees. He emphasizes that while the music of Fit For An Autopsy may evolve it will always be aggressive and will always have purpose. “We think it’s important to carry that torch. Somebody’s got to say something about the shit that’s going on. If you’re not using your music, which is a great platform, for something meaningful that you care about on some level, then you’re kind of wasting it.”

The six-men of the New Jersey based group – which includes vocalist Joe Badolato, bassist Peter Spinazola, third guitarist Tim Howley, and drummer Josean Orta – put maximum intentionality into everything they do. They are constantly challenging themselves as musicians, adding to the band’s overall creative arsenal, connecting with audiences around the world, and supporting one another in the band as individual people.

Fit For An Autopsy is set to take part in the CARRY THE FLAME TOUR featuring AFTER THE BURIAL, EMMURE and FIT FOR A KING this spring.

Pictorial: Trans Siberian Orchestra: The Ghosts of Christmas Eve at PPG Paints Arena

When Paul O’Neill first conceived Trans-Siberian Orchestra, his goal was as straightforward as it was incredibly ambitious. “The whole idea,” he explains, “was to create a progressive rock band that would push the boundaries (of the genre) further than any group before… Way, way further.”

With more than 10 million albums sold, TSO has inspired generations of fans to rediscover the multi-dimensional art form of the rock opera. Meanwhile, on the road, they have become one of the world’s top acts, with Billboard magazine naming TSO as one of the top touring artists of the past decade — a $20 million-plus production that has played to over 100 million people in 80+ cities, selling more than $280 million worth of tickets and presenting $11 million to charity.

O’Neill, a New York City native grew up, “with a wide-ranging world of (rock) musical influences.” But, O’Neill also soaked up sources such as Broadway musicals, Motown and singer-songwriters such as Jim Croce and Harry Chapin, while authors such as Oscar Wilde and Robert Graves fueled his literary tastes. He began his career playing guitar for touring productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair, then went to work in the late ’70s for Leber-Krebs Inc., the Manhattan management company whose clients included Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, Def Leppard, the Scorpions, the New York Dolls, and scores of others. In the ’80s, O’Neill became a major concert promoter in Japan as well, but returned to the States to start writing and producing full-time.

O’Neill helmed Aerosmith’s Classics Live I and Classics Live II albums before beginning a fortuitous relationship with the band Savatage that led to conceptual pieces such as Hall Of The Mountain King, Gutter Ballet, Streets: A Rock Opera and Dead Winter Dead. Producing introduced O’Neill to Jon Oliva, Bob Kinkel and Al Pitrelli, as well as reconnecting him with legendary studio engineer Dave Wittman, who all became key original collaborators in O’Neill’s grand vision – Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

“I wanted to take the very best of all the forms of music I grew up on and merge them into a new style,” O’Neill says. “Basically I was building on the work of everybody I worshipped: the rock opera parts from bands like the Who; the marriage of classical and rock from bands like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Queen; the over-the-top light show from bands like Pink Floyd… I always wanted to do a full rock opera with a full progressive band and at least 18 lead singers.”

O’Neill took the idea to Atlantic Records which, to his surprise, went for it and financed the creation of Romanov, which was initially to be TSO’s first release. “We were very fortunate,” he says. “It was one of the only labels left that still did an ‘old school’ kind of artist development. My original concept was that we were going to do six rock operas, a trilogy about Christmas and maybe one or two regular albums.”

However, when Romanov got temporarily put on the back burner, the first installment of the Christmas trilogy, Christmas Eve and Other Stories became TSO’s debut album. Fueled by the socially conscious single “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” the album was certified double platinum. More platinum certifications followed with 1998’s The Christmas Attic, and the final installment of the Christmas trilogy, The Lost Christmas Eve in 2004. In the midst of completing the trilogy, TSO released their first non-holiday rock opera, the gold certified Beethoven’s Last Night.

But TSO really cemented its following in concert. The group hit the road in 1999, beginning an annual November-December extravaganza that O’Neill takes pride in being, “as over the top as we can make it. We have, two stages –with pyro, light and lasers– on both sides of the arena, as well as in the crowd and the best sound we can find… There’s no second-class seats at a Trans-Siberian Orchestra show. I want people to walk out of our shows speechless and still not believing what they have seen was possible.”

TSO’s latest album, Night Castle, released in October of 2009 debuted at #5 and was certified gold by year’s end. A sweeping two-discs of genre-bending epics, Night Castle is an affecting story that takes the listener around the world, through time and to points beyond. O’Neill and company will eventually give Night Castle its due in a live setting just as they have Beethoven’s Last Night in spring ’10 with a new hybrid form of concert they called “Rock Theatre”– just one of many multi-media avenues TSO will be exploring in the near future…

“We spend a lot of time planning,” O’Neill confesses with a laugh, “and people are always telling me, ‘Paul, stop writing and start recording!’ It’s working out great, though. I feel lucky that it’s gone this long and that we get to do what we love for a living. The arts have incredible power, and with that comes incredible responsibility. Someone once said that if you want to change the world, don’t become a politician — write a book, write a great song. I believe in that, and that’s what Trans-Siberian Orchestra is about.”

“I’ve always believed that music has the power to transport and transform,” O’Neill explained. “The original concept of Trans-Siberian Orchestra was how to make music have the most emotional impact. We always try to write melodies that are so infectious they don’t need lyrics and lyrics so poetic that they don’t need a melody, but when you combine the two together they create an alloy where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. Once those songs are woven together into a tapestry they create a story which gives each song a third dimension.”

“That was so much in the spirit of Trans-Siberian Orchestra,” O’Neill explains. “This is a group –a constantly morphing group– of extremely creative and talented individuals who are always trying to raise the bar of where a band can take its audience sonically, visually and emotionally. With that as our core ideal, the possibilities are endless.” (from: http://www.trans-siberian.com)

TONIGHT! The Fame Riot & Radkey @Brillobox

fame-riot-photoTHE FAME RIOT

THE FAME RIOT is fashionable avant-garde, gender-fluid duo consisting of two fabulous, over the top brothers in their early 20s who live and breathe music and fashion. Raised by minister parents, the brothers were introduced to music from a spiritual perspective and being drawn to secular music, which they would listen to in secret, the two made the music that they longed to hear. Influenced by four decades of rock, pop, electronica, disco, and everything in-between, Liz Scarlett and Shazam “Tea Time” Watkins are what you would expect if you bottled up the fun and energy of raging summer parties, and threw in some flippant Hollywood glam.

The group has performed on KEXP, played Bumbershoot, and shared the stage with Chromeo, Grouplove, Mickey Avalon, DJ Shadow, and more. The duo recently performed a stripped down version of their single “Heart Stray” on Revolt TV’s program “Sounds By The Sound,” and were featured on RedBull.com where legendary Seattle DJ Marco Collins is quoted saying The Fame Riot has, “one of the catchiest pop records I’ve heard in years.” As best described by Galo Magazine, “There’s no denying that if the ’80s and ’90s had a love child, it would be this posse of so-called ‘ freeks ,’ who sport women’s clothing just as well, if not better, than the legendary frontman of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler.”

Composed of three biological brothers barely in their 20’s– Dee Radke (23) on guitar/vocals, Isiaiah Radke III (21) on radkey3bass/vocals, and Solomon Radke (19) on drums– Radkey is a high energy, punk rock phenomenon. Growing up on their music-obsessed dad (and now road manager)’s vinyl collection, the brothers cut their teeth as pre-teens, playing their first show opening for Fishbone in 2011… and haven’t looked back since. Radkey has played with Rise AgainstThe BronxRed FangTouche AmoreAgainst Me!, and more, and have performed at music festivals all over the world including Coachella (USA), Reading and Leads Festival (UK), Download Festival (UK), Riot Fest (USA),

AfroPunk Festival (USA)

and Punkspring Festival (Japan).

independent label in North America, Atlanta power trio WHORES. is coming to Pittsburgh.

 Details:
Dec 07 – Spirit Lounge w/ Red Fang and Torche Pittsburgh, PA
Since their inception in 2010, Whores. has laid waste to both presumption and audial functioning. Natives of Atlanta, Georgia, members Christian Lembach(vocals/guitars), Donnie Adkinson (drums), and Casey Maxwell (bass) have spent the last six years establishing Whores. as one of heavy music’s most distinctive acts thanks to the formidable combination of the group’s punk ethos and the ferocity of their sound. Confrontational and relentless, the music of Whores. will now be seen and heard in its fully formed state with the groups debut full-length.

Beginning with 2011’s Ruiner EP (Brutal Panda), Whores. brought a welcomed new vision to the often-tired “extreme music” scene. Two years later saw the release of the Clean. EP (Brutal Panda), a six-track musical display of visceral anchor and songwriting brilliance. Highly anticipated by critics and fans alike,Clean. sold out within a month, prompting the group to release a second pressing. Touted by SPIN as one of 2013’s ‘Best Metal Albums’, Clean. simply reaffirmed what listeners had suspected all along. Whores. isn’t here to fuck around.
With the 2014 release of the Whores./Rabbits split (Brutal Panda) which included the group’s powerful cover of The Cure’s “Jumping Someone Else’sTrain”, the expectation for a full-length became even more apparent, but pushing product isn’t the group’s line of work. For Whores., the cavalcade of anticipation provides no pressure or expectation as Lembach states: “We done just want to fill in the blanks.” The only pressure here is to maintain authenticity, and to that end, Whores. are the quintessential example of genuine malice.
“You have to bring a sense of realness to [the music], otherwise it’s fake, and it sounds fake. You have to be honest about it, and it’s about getting to the really ugly stuff inside of you, and that’s what we do.” Whores. has eagerly shared that ugliness with their audience having crisscrossed the US four times on separate tours, including headlining shows and stops at festivals like SXSW, SpilloverFest, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and much more. To that end, the band’s tireless dedication to the road is simply a mirrored image of their music’s relentless power, an attribute that has undoubtedly resulted in their most unforgiving effort yet, proof that good and heavy things come to those who wait.

Concert Coverage: Anti-Flag “Rock Against the TPP” road show @MrSmalls in Millvale

Pittsburgh’s own politically active punk band Anti-Flag brought the “Rock Against the TPP” road show to Mr. Smalls in Millvale Thursday night. The Rock Against the TPP Tour is being organized by Fight for the Future along with Firebrand Records, the new social justice infused record label co-founded by Tom Morello and Ryan Harvey, acting as the tour’s artistic partner. The road show is sponsored and co-organized by a diverse coalition of groups fighting against the corporate power grab that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. According to the tour press release, “The TPP has little to do with trade, but instead grants multinational corporations extraordinary new powers to threaten jobs, the environment, affordable medicine, free speech, and food safety.” The Rock Against the TPP tour brings together a broad coalition of supporters including digital rights groups, labor unions, environmental groups, and small businesses to mobilize opposition to what is viewed as a dangerous, anti-democratic deal. “

Bon Jovi and President Bill Clinton “Get Out The Vote” in Pittsburgh

Photos and story: Jack Fordyce ©2016

Jon Bon Jovi got a little help from his friend when President Bill Clinton made a guest appearance during a free “Get Out The Vote” concert in Pittsburgh Thursday night at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. There wasn’t a duet, but they each took a moment to address campaign issues in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter played a short setlist starting with “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Lost Highway,” and an acoustic cover of The Beatle’s “Here Comes the Sun.” The Clinton campaign is having Bon Jovi perform at another similar event in Tampa, Florida on Nov. 5, the day after the release of their thirteenth studio album, “This House is Not For Sale.”

RED FANG Premiere “Shadows” Music Video via Funny Or Die/Pittsburgh show Dec 7 @SpiritLounge

Watch “Shadows” at Funny Or Die HERE
Portland rockers RED FANG mess with the wrong comic book collectors in the band’s new video for “Shadows,” which debuted via Funny or Die this morning and can be viewed HERE.

“We had the pleasure of working with Whitey (McConnaughy) again on another music video,” the band’s singer/guitar player Bryan Giles commented of the Predator-like clip. “It was a crazy adventure through the woods in rural Oregon. It has stunt men, real firepower and some great explosions! We had a blast on this one.”

The video is the sixth to pair RED FANG and director McConnaughy; the first clip from the partnership was 2010’s “Prehistoric Dog”, which saw the Portland-based band challenge a local role playing troupe only to suffer the consequences. The most recent video from the band & McConnaughy is the 2013 clip featuring Fred Armisen and a horde of beer-thirsty zombies in “Blood Like Cream”.

RED FANG have been vocal about their transformative experience working with Robinson, with the band saying the sessions marked “a huge leap forward for us” and adding that they feel like “a better band for it.” A series of in-studio videos are rolling out via Relapse Records’ YouTube page, which can be viewed here.

The  band kick off an extensive fall tour on Sept. 26 with a month of European tour dates followed by another month of U.S. dates. Labelmates Torche will open on both runs with Whores joining the U.S. dates.

Marianas Trench: Memorable in Millvale

Stephanie Connell: story and photos

It’s a quiet night in Millvale, just like any other night.  Cars happily bustle up and down the narrow streets, and a line forms outside Mr. Small’s Theatre and Funhouse.  Teens and young adults alike eagerly wait for the doors to open.  Around 7 pm the venue welcomes its guests inside the former church to enjoy a sanctuary of a different kind: music.  A DJ opened the show with a series of classic 1980s jams, such as “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”  At 8pm, Greensburg’s own Vertigo continued on with its pop-rock funk styles, followed by Skylar Stecker who is on the full tour.  Not long after she finished, the lights dimmed and the crowd roared.  Four musicians take the stage, the lead singer Jedi-style (slowly, hood-up).  During the opening song, Astoria.  The hood is removed to reveal Marianas Trench’s Josh Ramsay.  The first few songs end with Ramsay very happily exclaiming “I told you we would be back soon!”  Ramsay then happily discussed the excitement of the band touring for close to a full year since the beginning of the first Astoria tour. The Canadian pop-punk band played hits such as “Fallout” and “Cross My Heart” as well as hits from Astoria such as “Who Do You Love”.  The band revealed that upon the tour’s end, they would be making a music video for the latter.  They ended the show with the statement “We will back soon!”  Hopefully, we can count on this.

Overall, the band puts on a memorable show.  The theatrics at the beginning of their set create an atmosphere that live music fan can enjoy.  Their crowd interaction only makes it better.  The band saw some familiar faces in the crowd, including a fan who strongly resembles Dean Back of Theory of a Deadman.  “I know we talked about this the last time we came here!” Ramsay exclaimed to the crowd.  Apparently, their concerts in Millvale are just as memorable for the band as they are for the fans.  This was only the band’s second trip to Millvale.  Hopefully, they do not think twice about returning a third time.
