Although he recently skyrocketed into the forefront of art/music crossover fame with his painting of Slayer/Exodus guitarist Gary Holt’s signature ESP guitar – celebrated surrealist painter and tattoo artist VINCENT CASTIGLIA has been turning heads for years with his awe-inspiring work. VINCENT CASTIGLIA is the first American artist to receive a solo exhibition invitation from Oscar Award-winning artist H.R. Giger in the history of the H. R. Giger Museum Gallery. Vincent’s art has been praised by fellow artists, musicians, and other notables throughout his career.
“With such precise technique, his depiction of human musculature is nothing short of outstanding.”
– Paul Booth / World-renowned Tattooist, Artist, Gallery Owner, Fanatical Nihilist
“If the body is the temple, then the heart is the altar and the blood is the sacred flame that enlightens the shrine. Vincent is painting with holy light.” – Martin Eric Ain / Musician, Celtic Frost
“The ominous truth that his art confronts, along with the exquisiteness in which it is portrayed, provides a timeless revelation into human existence.” – Joe Sopkowics, Forensic Photographer
In the privacy of his studio, VINCENT CASTIGLIA practices a kind of modern-day phlebotomy, siphoning the life force which contains his own psychic energy, while giving it an outlet and form. In doing so, he dissolves the barrier between artist and art in a most literal and immediate sense. Vincent’s figures, their musculature and skin, are painted with what could be thought of as “liquid flesh”. Its tendency to quicken the subjects is likely unapproachable by any other medium—as it is actual tissue with which it is being rendered. In this way, the subject’s realism is not merely an optical illusion due to its level of detail, but rather is an actual transference of flesh and blood to each work.
VINCENT CASTIGLIA‘s impressive work has seen many sides of the entertainment world, as well. MTV New Media’s Horror-Slasher Film, Savage County, featured his art as its official movie poster, depicting the three murderers in the film. Prior to the film, Vincent painted album art for heavy metal band Triptykon‘s 2010 debut release, Eparistera Daimones.Triptykon is founded by former Hellhammer / Celtic Frostsinger and guitarist Tom Gabriel Fischer. Vincent also painted the DVD cover for Fangoria Presents film, Corpsing.
His work has been featured on The National Geographic Channel (NatGeo), FOX News, CNBC, BBC, New York 1 News, Spike TV, The Discovery Channel, and The Science Channel. Castiglia was also recently a guest on the Jay Thomas Show on Sirius XM Radio. His work has been explored by countless art and culture publications, in the US and internationally, including theNew York Post, New York Daily News, The Huffington Post, Art Business News, International Business Times, Bizarre Magazine, as well as Lexikon Der Phantastischen Künstler “The international encyclopedia of fantastic, surrealistic, symbolist, & visionary artists”. He was also recently awarded “Tattoo Artist of the Year” in ThisisHorror.uk‘s “This Is Horror Awards 2012”.
His work hangs in many distinguished collections internationally, among them, the collection of Rock legend Gregg Allman. Vincent recently illustrated a highly-publicized self-portrait of renowned comedian Margaret Cho, created with her own blood. His paintings have been exhibited at museums and galleries in the US, and internationally, including CoproGallery, (Santa Monica, California), Last Rites Gallery (New York) The Museum of Sex (New York), The Museum Of Porn In Art, (Switzerland), The HR Giger Museum Gallery, (Switzerland), , The Mall Gallery (London, England) Canvas Los Angeles (Los Angeles California), Fuse Gallery(New York), Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center (Ft. Myers, Florida), Art @ Large Gallery (New York) Gallery Lombardi (Austin Texas), L’imagerie Gallery (Hollywood, California), Museo De La Cuidad De Mexico, (Mexico), C-Pop Gallery (Detroit, Michigan), Shooting Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Seed Gallery (Newark, New Jersey), The 7th Annual Dirty Show (Detroit, Michigan),  as well as The Congregation Gallery (Hollywood, California).

Davey Suicide limited edition, signed and numbered art prints

From Davey Suicide…

Amidst, all of the writing and recording of the new album, I wanted to let you know what else has been going on in UnHolywood.

In between studio sessions with Needlz, I’ve been painting a ton.  I had never shared that side of my art with everyone until recently when I posted a few on my instagram.  Everyone started asking if I would make prints because the originals are normally sold, so I decided to make some.

Each of these prints are limited edition, signed and numbered (1-50).  I’ve attached a screen shot of some and will be rotating them on a regular basis.

PRINTS available here: http://daveysuicide.bigcartel.com/
Enjoy, thank you for supporting the habit & see you in November on the Revel Without a Cause Tour w/ William Control!!

VINCENT CASTIGLIA: Art Exhibition ‘Psychocosm’

New York City native and world-renowned surrealist VINCENT CASTIGLIA recently announced his upcoming solo art exhibition entitled ‘Psychochosm’, taking place from September 27th-29th at The Westchester County Center (located at 198 Central Ave, White Plains, NY). The convention center will host an opening reception on September 27th from 8-11pm. ‘Psychocosm’ will include a striking collection of Vincent’s paintings and sculptural work, which are created exclusively in his own blood.

In the privacy of his studio, Vincent practices a kind of modern-day phlebotomy, siphoning the life force which contains his own psychic energy, while giving it an outlet and form. In doing so, he dissolves the barrier between artist and art in a most literal and immediate sense.

This exhibition encompasses many available works from the beginning of his career through present, and aims to examine the congruency of life and death.

Vincent recently took the time to explain his two favorite pieces in the exhibition, “Feeding” and “Stings of the Lash”, which are displayed below.

  • “Feeding”(59″ x 41”, Blood on paper, 2006), depicts the archetypal mother of humanity, a fleeting organism which struggles to nurture itself in spite of the self-evident frailties that are innately threaded into its existence – namely sickness and death. Her transience burdens her more deeply to propagate. Yet hope runs through the composition; among the ruins of a physical shell, the background envelops the figures, like a promise, that like the child, they are being held together by something vaster. See belowimage002 (1)

  • “Stings of the Lash” (88″ x 59″”, Blood, 2005) marks significant events in my life, people, places and things – the ‘stings’ of my own ‘lashes’. This painting also deals with the unique nature of the human will. There is a “consciousness between impulses”, the space between actions. The figure stands between two neurons attempting to communicate; only the message is diffused in the space between them by this willful phenomenon. Behind him are three dimensions, which the figure penetrates, physically as well as allegorically, the terrestrial, the celestial, and beyond this the collective unconscious. See below.

Vincent’s figures, their musculature and skin, are painted with what could be thought of as “liquid flesh”. Its tendency to quicken the subjects is likely inapproachable by any other medium—as it is actual tissue with which it is being rendered. In this way the subject’s realism is not merely an optical illusion due to its level of detail, but rather is an actual transference of flesh and blood to each work.

Recently hailed by Cleveland’s Scene Magazine as #2 on their “13 Bands to Watch in 2013,” Demos Papadimas intertwines American roots music with Mediterranean influences. Papadimas (resonator guitar/vocals/harmonica/bouzouki) comes to Club Cafe with his three-piece live band consisting of Andre Ptichkin (upright bass), Sandi Quotson (violin), and Ralph Rich (drums) to promote his debut full length solo album, Wandering Through the Wilderness.

Often compared to Bob Dylan, Papadimas himself cites string bands such as Old Crow Medicine Show and The Hackensaw Boys as major inspirations for their rock and roll approach to traditional music. He also has been inspired by Leonard Cohen’s marriage of American folk and Mediterranean-based World music evident in Cohen’s most recent touring ensembles.

Papadimas considers American roots music to be aesthetically in line with Greek Rembetiko music–the “Greek Blues.” Challenging prevailing attitudes that label such music as archaic or irrelevant, Papadimas argues that both are rebellious expressions of our search for meaning, relevant and vital today. He’s found a kinship with modern twisters of American sounds like Old Crow Medicine Show, who blend foot-stompin’ bluegrass with a rock ‘n’ roll attitude. “They’re expressing what I’m feeling, the whole idea of being young and jumping back into the roots and making something new out of that.”

Discussing his new album, Papadimas states that “[a]lthough the album explores varied musical territory, including back porch Americana, Bob Dylan-esque ballads, Gypsy Tango, and Greek Rembetiko, it is still very much a songwriter’s album. The lyrics certainly take the spotlight, even though there are rich musical arrangements and diverse stylistic twists from track to track. I think this is the best I can summarize my style and the approach.”

Lyrically, this self-described “cynical optimist” infuses glimmers of hope in his often world-weary lyrics. When Papadimas sings, “Somehow I’ve dodged so many evil eyes, that I ain’t got religion is really just a surprise” he shares his sense of bemused wonder. His meditative travelogues are often Guthrie-esque ramblings translated from the Dust Bowl to the Euro-Zone, from freight trains to bullet trains, and are perceptive companions to his rootsy musical approach.

The Womack Family Band:

Since their debut in 2010 The Womack Family Band has captivated audiences all over the eastern U.S. with their spot on three part vocal harmony, tight musicianship, and old soul songwriting. Calling on the spirit of The Beatles, The Band, Paul Simon, and James Taylor, the Womack Family Band combines the vibe of the 60’s – 70’s songwriter with the roots of American folk, blues, jazz, country, and rock music.

The group consists of brother and sister, Noah and Haley Heyman, and long-time friends Cory Webb and Tony Schaffer. All four “Womacks” grew up within 10 miles of one another and all shared the same passion for music. The group began performing in bars together in 2009, playing everything from Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles to Tom Waits and The Talking Heads. These all night pub sessions would prepare the group for touring 150 dates or more a year and cultivate their eclectic approach to song building.

After releasing their self-titled debut record the WFB was named Folk Alley’s “Featured Artist of the Month”. After a performance on NBC Cleveland the group hit the road with fellow Ohioan, singer/songwriter Chris Castle. In September 2012 the Womack Family Band released their 3rd record and hit the road again for a 40 day, 14 state tour.

Unto Thee: Next Step…World Domination

Here at PMM we get tons of requests from bands to check out their stuff, and we always do! Once in awhile you get a band that you see a ton of potential in and really root for their success. So when Unto Thee sent us a message on Facebook and we listened to some of their work we knew you would get into their stuff and would want to know more about them. So, we spoke with drummer Kenny Shillingburg who gave us a full run down on the Virginia metal up and comers…

Unto Thee is a metal band from Winchester, Virginia. Formed in 2010 by guitarist Canaan Rhodes and drummer Kenny Shillingburg, the band had plenty of time to perfect their material and was a time bomb waiting to blow. It did when they picked up both vocalist Zack McKee and second guitarist Tyler Seal in early 2012. Bassist Wes Bennett joined in May 2012, but regrettably had to withdraw from the band early November of this year. Throughout the past summer they have been tearing up both Virginia and Maryland with upbeat music and a wild/almost playful stage presence. With their complex rhythms, fast beats, and brutal vocals, the only way they can go is up.

Where does your name come from? Does it have anything to do with e.e. cummings poem or Psalm 25?

It’s kind of a random story about the name actually. We had been listening to a lot of music our senior year of high school back in 2010 and decided we would start a band! Canaan got a little Peavy Rapter guitar for Christmas that year, and the following February I (Kenny) bought a drum set for my birthday. We messed around with a few names and that one just kind of showed up out of nowhere. We honestly haven’t even heard of that poem haha. And it’s no reference to the Bible either. We are a band of Christian members, but not a Christian band, if that makes sense. It’s an attention grabber with a name like that. People never really know what to expect.

How has being from Virginia/Maryland shaped you as a band?

Being from Virginia, or at least northern VA where its mainly a pop-punk scene is pretty difficult. You’ll also run into a lot of hardcore/post hardcore bands. Granted neither one of those styles are our favorites, we still try to show support to all the locals. It made us feel like we had something to prove ya know? To show people you can be heavy with deep screams and heavy riffs while still having some singing and guitar solos or harmonies. One of our biggest goals was to be as different from all the other bands as we could, while staying true to ourselves.

Zack Mckee (Vocals)
Zack Mckee (Vocals)

Now that some of your material has been recorded, what would you do differently next time around?

Well, the recordings currently on our Reverbnation and Facebook page we actually did ourselves in the garage. Zack, our vocalist, went to Shenandoah University to study music sound and production so we scored pretty well there with his skills. For the past two months we have been in the studio with a good friend of ours, Aaron Richert, from the band Timelord, who runs a recording studio out of his house recording our EP. This guy is the real deal. To listen to his stuff he has done is just like putting in a professional CD, so we were very fortunate in finding him to help us out. Look for that to be ready and released by early February, it’ll kick you in the face!

Canaan Rhodes (Lead)
Canaan Rhodes (Lead)

Who would you call your greatest influences?

Our greatest influences. That’s an interesting combination there. As for myself and Canaan, our biggest influence was without a doubt Avenged Sevenfold. Those guys definitely are the reason we are doing what we love to do. That was the main one, in addition to Lamb of God, Machine Head, Metallica and Slipknot for us two. Tyler, our rhythm guitarist, is surprisingly in to lighter music, such as Coldplay and a lot of lighter bands like that. He does love our music but those are his big time favorites, as well as Lamb of God. Jason, our bassist and newest addition to the band, really likes classic metal like Mertallica and Megadeath, as well as Five Finger Death Punch. He’s started coming around now to our Lamb of God and As I Lay Dying influences, but he loves his old school metal. Now for Zack, he likes it all. He was in everything from a black metal band to a Creed cover band and now our heavy metal. His biggest vocal influences are from Whitechapel, Job for a Cowboy, again Lamb of God, Alter Bridge, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

Tyler Seal (rhythm)

What were the first songs many of you learned on your respective instruments?

Canaan and I both started around the same time and like I said were really big into Avenged Sevenfold. We would play Unholy Confessions from dawn til dust haha a lot of their songs were our first self taught ones. Him and I never took lessions or anything like that, so for being self taught and two years, I’d like to think we aren’t doing too terrible! Zack started back playing As I Lay Dying and Creed, Job for a Cowboy and stuff. Then he started discovering that he had brutal, raw talent as a vocalist and started studying that, picking up a lot of his influences styles and running with it. Jason started out on guitar, mainly sticking with tapping on the high strings and just messing around here and there. We came to him and asked him to play bass for us since we had all been friends since back in elementary school, so I guess the first bass song he ever learned was Mr. Nameless that we taught him, which was pretty cool. Tyler had lessions as a kid and started with a lot of Jimi Hendrix, later switching to Lamb of God, then finally to our stuff.

Where would you most like to be musically/professionally in the next 2-3 years?

In the next 2-3 years we’re hoping to be changing lives with our music all over the country. We are all decicated enough and have the drive to be successful. I think with our work ethic and the originality of our music, it’s a highy obtainable goal. We are hoping to be playing Mayhem Festival over the summers and maybe even Download Festival. It’d be great to have a record deal, tour bus, this that and the other, but honestly if we’re just getting by on merch sales, fast food, and crammed in a little tiny van, it’s well worth it to be doing what we love. We will never be content with a 9-5 job, no matter how much money it pulls. If we hate it, we don’t want it. That’s why we love music so much, and we see ourselves doing it for the rest of our lives.

 First show in D.C. 2/19/2011
First show in D.C. 2/19/2011

Any dream pieces of equipment you are wishing for in the new year?

We’ve saved up a lot of money over the years and finally bought a lot of top of the line stuff for our sound. that bieng said, our dream equipment for the next year is DEFINITELY something to travel in. We always have to end up driving 2-3 vehicles to each show no matter how far they are, and kills gas and our patience. So that is definitely our biggest equipment goal this 2013 year.

What is your favorite way to interact with fans?

We love our fans. Period. We did a free t shirt giveaway on Facebook when we first got them and people ate that up. We connect through Facebook and Reverbnation, as well as through our personal stuff. We have some wireless stuff so during our set we get out in the crowd and get down with everyone! After our sets we man our merch tables and hang out in the crowd with our fans during other bands sets as well. The crowd loves us!

Where do you draw song inspirations from?

It’s going to sound cliche, but they all come from the heart. A lot of our songs were (and still are) in progress for over a year. If it’s not right we don’t push to finish it. We tweak every little detail and try to pick apart the smallest parts to get them perfect.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about the metal community?

Favorite: How tight you can be with certain bands, to a level that’s more than just playing shows. Hanging out with guys from other bands around our area, like our good friends in the bands “Dixiefilth” and “Thus, Anguish” is awesome. And the level of support from the people that actually DO support the metal community and what we’re trying to do is also a huge factor.

Negative: The attitude of some bands that put themselves above the others in the community for no reason, as well as the lack of support for metal in general. The ones who support are die hard fans, but there aren’t that many. Many people are much to quick to jump to a conclusion and say that metal is satan worshiping and society rebellion. if they slowed down and took in the details, they would see that isn’t the case at all. There is a lot of music from our area that NEEDS to be heard, and I just hope that with our music changing lives, the metal community, as well as us and our local friends, will grow huge and prosper from doing what we love.

Vincent is the first American artist to receive a solo exhibition invitation from Oscar Award-winning artist H.R.

VINCENT CASTIGLIA’s impressive work has seen many sides of the entertainment world, as well. MTV New Media’s Horror-Slasher Film, Savage County, featured his art as its official movie poster, depicting the three murderers in the film. Prior to the film, Vincent painted album art for heavy metal band Triptykon’s 2010 debut release, Eparistera Daimones. Triptykon is founded by former Hellhammer / Celtic Frost singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Fischer.

His work has been featured on New York 1 News, Spike TV, as well as the television series, Miami Ink. His work has been explored by countless art and culture, and media publications, in the US and internationally, including the New York Post, New York Daily News, and the recently released, Lexikon Der Phantastischen Künstler “The international encyclopedia of fantastic, surrealistic, symbolist, & visionary artists”.

His work hangs in many distinguished international collections; one of his most celebrated works of 2006, “Gravity” was recently acquired by Rock legend Gregg Allman. Click Here To Listen To “(This Is Why) I Don’t Wear White” On Pitchfork

On November 20, Frenchkiss Records will release “(This is Why) I Can’t Wear White” b/w “15,” the third in a series of 7-inch singles from Flock of Dimes, the solo project of Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner. Limited to 1,000 copies, each 7-inch includes a download coupon for both tracks. The album will be released digitally as well.

Jenn launched Flock of Dimes in 2011 as a way to explore more experimental recording and songwriting outside of the burgeoning success of Wye Oak. A tour opening for Sharon Van Etten followed, and a debut 7-inch, “Prison Bride” b/w “I Can’t Tell You Why (screwed mix),” was released by Baltimore-based Friends Records in April of 2011. A 2nd 7-inch was released this past September through Merge Records. This 3rd release was produced by Mickey Free once again and features beautiful cover art by Beth Hoeckel.

FILTER Premieres Plateaus “The District”

Listen to “The District” Via FILTER Here!

Plateaus model their sound after the production techniques of Spector, Meek and Wilson, but employ a modern punk edge evidenced by the songs’ brevity, catchy hooks and raw energy. A thick, distorted guitars and layers of blown-out vocals swim in a sea or reverberation, replete with catchy leads, sticky vocal melodies, mechanical drumbeats and earth-shaking fuzz bass.

Plateaus hit the road this summer / fall with label mate Colleen Green, not only as the opening band, but as her backing band as well! Colleen Green’s Milo Goes To Compton LP is out now via Art Fag as is Plateaus’ Open Skies 7″.

Plateaus’ self titled debut LP is out now via Art Fag. The first 100 copies are on white vinyl!

Plateaus will be playing a record release show in their hometown of San Diego this Saturday, November 17, at Soda Bar. Entry is $5!

Blind The Sky To Try Out For America’s Got Talent

Progressive Rock band Blind The Sky will be trying out for the Alabama portion of America’s Got Talent. Blind The Sky is a rock band that has found it’s strength in going against the common grain. Long and dynamic un-commercialized songs, but with electric drums, guitar synthesizers, and drum activated lights? That doesn’t sound like a rock/metal band, ..does it?

From their website

Blind The Sky is a band with the mentality of “why not.” Why can’t a rock band write long dynamic songs without droning on the same riff for 15 minutes? Why can’t a rock band play what the music dictates instead of what is conventional? Most Commercial music on the radio today is like fast food. Its convenience is the only thing that makes it appealing. What you pay for is grease, a spare tire on your waist line, and its way too easy to swallow. The band has always found its strength going against the common grain. Blind The Sky is a band like many others reincarnated from the ashes of previous bands. The band started out in early 2007, thru many transitions, Dave Kelly and Daniel Holderer remained the key members of the band. In early 2010 Mike Hollander joined the band completing the lineup.

Dave has been playing guitar and singing most of his life in various different bands. Dave is the lead vocalist, guitar/synth player and is a major writing force in the group. At the formation of Blind The Sky Dave started becoming influenced by electronic sounds blended with rock. This led to his discovery of guitar synth which added a new dimension to the band’s sound.

Daniel started playing drums to make banging beats for your booty. Daniel plays electronic percussion triggering lights mixed with keyboards, background vocals, and adds to the songwriting. Daniel feels drums signify celebration, like the first caveman banging on a buffalo skin.

Mike like Dave, has been playing guitar and bass in various different bands most of his life. A lover of music, Mike has come to the theory that 90 percent of any genre of music at any given time is crap and the other 10 percent is great. Mike plays bass, sings backing vocals and adds a Zen-like approach to the music.

Blind The Sky is a band that’s passion for music knows no boundaries. They create music that includes many different genres and moods blended into one unique style. With only three members their sound is one. To sum all this into all in one word.

All That Remains Pittsburgh Pictorial

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Certainly well on their way to cracking the highest level of metal stardom is the band All That Remains. This is not the first time in the last few years that they have graced a Pittsburgh stage, and surely not to be the last, but their set was an impressively hard, fist pounding, circle trashing, metal mashup of musical bliss. Super fan friendly, hard working, and extremely talented ALT proved at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE why they just keep rising to the top.

“From cracking the Billboard Top 20, to joining the elite active rock radio fraternity, to being one of just a handful of acts to take part in the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Ozzfest and Vans Warped Tour trifecta, the group has shattered previously-held expectations about just how far a band with roots in independent heavy metal can go – and with their fifth album, For We Are Many, it’s clear they’re only getting warmed up”.

Hanging with lead singer Phillip Labonte at Stage AE

Guitarist Oli Herbert says For We Are Many was the group’s most challenging album to date, he believes the end result was worth the fight. “I feel we have a consistently strong album that has not left even the smallest detail to chance,” he says. Vocalist Phil Labonte agrees. “When we wrote the album, it was a really good time for the band creatively,” he says. “Mike (Martin, guitars), Oli and I have written four discs together now, so when we get together, it’s very easy to communicate ideas.”

Talking to lead guitarist Oli after the show at Stage AE

While the album was again produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist and fellow Massachusetts native Adam Dutkiewicz (August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, As I Lay Dying) – who previously collaborated with the band on their second and third albums, This Darkened Heart (2004) and The Fall Of Ideals (2006) – For We Are Many sees All That Remains unafraid to experiment. One track (“Won’t Go Quietly”) includes a guitar solo featuring a talk-box; another sees the band utilize a Leslie speaker, which gives the Hammond B-3 organ its distinctive sound. “We weren’t afraid to be wrong,” Labonte says. “If we try something and don’t like it, no big deal – but if you don’t try it, you might miss something cool.”

Herbert praises Dutkiewicz for the professionalism he brought to the table. “Adam is a very gifted but demanding producer,” he says. “He can make you laugh, and then cry the next moment when he informs you of your continued failure. He does it in a joking manner, of course, but at the end of the day, nothing short of perfection is accepted under his watchful ear. This gave me comfort, in that only the best performances were used and I didn’t have to second-guess myself.”

Following the runaway success of 2008′s Overcome – which debuted at #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and yielded two top 20 active rock hit singles, “Forever In Your Hands” and “Two Weeks” (the latter of which peaked at #6) – many bands would get complacent, but All That Remains‘ decade-long fight for survival prepared them for the long haul. “We are a band that came up the hard way, and the first seven years were pure struggle,” admits Herbert. “Once big things started happening along the way, we have been greatly appreciative.” Labonte echoes the sentiment. “It’s been over 10 years since we started ATR, and it’s amazing that in this day and age, we’re still able to do this for a living,” he says. “It’s the most amazing, crazy, annoying, fun and rewarding job I can imagine, and we’re so grateful to the people who have been here all along, and to all the new people who are just getting into the band right now.”

After laying the groundwork for the release of Overcome with a summer-long stint on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, All That Remains – which also features drummer Jason Costa and bassist Jeanne Sagan – toured aggressively around the globe, including North American stints with underground metal heroes (In Flames, Trivium), hard rock heavyweights (Slipknot, Disturbed) and screamo titans (The Devil Wears Prada) alike. The 2009 Rockstar Mayhem Festival, meanwhile, saw the group perform alongside a lineup that ranged from Bullet For My Valentine to Slayer. In recent weeks, All That Remains has played with everyone from Avenged Sevenfold, to Limp Bizkit, to Fear Factory, further proving the diverse appeal of the band’s unique mix of muscle and melody – something Herbert believes stems from the band’s unique mix of personalities. “The five of us are radically different people with completely different views on what we like, and the challenge is to make those differences meet somewhere in the middle,” he says.

As For We Are Many proves, never has compromise sounded so compelling. The album deftly shifts from the aggression of the title track, to the memorable hooks of “The Last Time” and first single “Hold On,” to the slow groove of the chorus of “Dead Wrong,” with infectious vocal melodies and fleet fingered yet tasteful guitar solos peppered throughout. Musically, the measured and precise riffing of Herbert and Martin and Costa’s complex rhythms compel throughout, as they surely will on stage when ATR kicks off an extensive touring cycle with As I Lay Dying, to be immediately followed by a headlining tour beginning in mid-October.

Having SoundScanned a combined half-million copies of their last two albums alone, All That Remains is poised to soar to new heights, but as For We Are Many proves, they’ll do so on their terms, without compromising the ideals and independence demonstrated during the band’s first decade of existence. “Every time a band gains more success,” Herbert says, “they are expected to live up to or surpass their previous effort – but we just wanted to make a consistently good album.” Clearly, sometimes modest goals yield immodest dividends.

Heavy Glow To Release “Mine All Mine” TOMORROW Via Their Website!

“steeped in psyche-soaked proto-metal, gutbucket garage rock and bone-deep 70s blooze…”-Classic Rock Magazine

“Mine All Mine” is part of the 7″ they’ll be touring to support in 2013 and will be released on their website tomorrow 11/8/12 …check it out here

Psychedelic blues rock band Heavy Glow displays a mastery of confidence and emotive power in their untitled follow-up to the highly acclaimed album “Midnight Moan.” To be released in 2013 under Purge Records and with the addition of a new drummer, the new album is a culmination of everything the band has been working towards since forming in 2008. The finished product flaunts nuances of retro rock through hard-and-heavy guitar tones, bombastic drum-playing and suave bass lines. Front man Mullins injects raw soul into his entrancing vocal melodies and cascading choral harmonies to create a sound that is both informed by the past and undeniably modern.

Heavy Glow started with an Internet ad, drums, and a bass guitar. Hailing from the rustbelt city of Cleveland, Ohio, drummer Jared Mullins moved to San Diego and began posting ads on Craigslist looking for a bass player. Joe Brooks responded. After Jared switched from playing drums to playing guitar and singing, the two formed Heavy Glow: heavy rock with a glow of sensual swagger. The band soon caught the attention of legendary producer and renowned guitarist Stevie Salas with whom they recorded their first EP in just four days at Velvet Revolver’s private studio. “Heavy Glow,” the self-titled EP, was released to favorable reviews and garnered international airplay. FOX’s television series “The Good Guys” played the track “Grinning in the Dark” in its second episode. In 2009, the band signed to Australian record label StockXChange Music Group/Sony Australia and agreed to a publishing deal soon after.

StockXChange Music unexpectedly disbanded in early 2010 without compensating the band for EP sales. Determined to move forward, the band independently recorded “The Filth & The Fury” in one, six-hour live studio recording. The resulting five tracks captured the energy and skill unique to a live performance. Classic Rock Magazine UK distributed the song “Hot Mess” in a sampler CD for its July issue. “The Filth & The Fury” was nominated for Best Rock Album of the Year at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards. Following the album’s success, the band toured throughout the southwestern United States.

“Midnight Moan”, the band’s first full-length album, was independently released in 2011. Recorded in under a week, the nine-track album explored darker and sometimes murky themes but still managed to receive rave reviews. Mullins permeates his soulful lyrics throughout a wide variety of rock subgenres from 60’s psychedelia to 70s AM radio, heavy sludge, and even Delta Blues.

Drummer Andrew Hoffman officially joined the band in March of 2012 after the band’s appearance at SXSW. Adding a tasteful balance of jazz-inspired flourishes and thunderous athleticism, Hoffman’s beats can be heard on the upcoming album.

Fans of every music genre have been pleasantly surprised by the band’s unique sound with radio play in over 22 different countries and countless international press reviews.

The band’s west coast tour from San Diego to Seattle kicks off in January. Following the 2013 album release, the band will embark on an extensive European tour.

Jared is the rock. Joe is the roll. Andrew is the life-blood. Together they are Heavy Glow.

VOIVOD Premieres ‘Target Earth’ Artwork, Reveals Album Details

Canadian progressive metal pioneers VOIVOD have premiered the artwork for their 13th studio album, Target Earth, on the band’s official Facebook page.

The original art was once again drawn by drummer Away (Michel Langevin) and features color schemes from each one of the band’s’ previous albums.

Due out January 21st in Europe and January 22nd in North America, Target Earth was recorded at producer Pierre Rémillard’s Wild Studios in Quebec and mixed by Sanford Parker (PELICAN, NACHTMYSTIUM). The album will be available as a CD, gatefold double vinyl and a limited edition deluxe box set (details on that to be announced soon).

The album brings back original bass player, Blacky (Jean Yves Thériault), marking his first recordings with the band since 1991’s Angel Rat. It’s also the first to feature guitarist, Chewy (Dan Mongrain), who cut his teeth playing guitar to the late Denis D’Amour’s riffs and thus has matched his style to a tee. VOIVOD, as a full group, hadn’t sat down to write a record together since 2003’s self-titled album. The end result harkens back to the group’s late 80s output and after 30 years together as a band, one of their best yet.

The official track-listing for Target Earth can be seen below.

Yoko Ono Releases ‘Onomix’

YOKO ONO has long been credited with igniting the punk-rock fire years before its official explosion, and her work continues to be relevant and inspirational decades later. For the past 10 years, ONO has been meticulously reinventing select songs from her vast catalog for 21st-century dancefloors, giving the groundbreaking pop culture icon a greater platform and visibility of which many contemporaries and present-day contenders can be envious.

This digital-only “green” release offers a comprehensive overview of ONO’s ambitious and ongoing dance remix series campaign, which launched in 2001, and includes mixes from BASEMENT JAXX, DANNY TENAGLIA, RALPHI ROSARIO, DAVE AUDE, BIMBO JONES, RICHARD MOREL, FRANCOIS K., ERIC KUPPER, DJ MEME, JOCHEM SIMMS, KARSH KALE, ROBERTO RODRIGUEZ and more.

CLUTCH Announce Earth Rocker as New Album Title

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have announced Earth Rocker as the title of their new studio album. Earth Rocker is scheduled for a worldwide release in March of 2013 on CLUTCH’s label Weathermaker Music.

In conjunction with the album’s release CLUTCH will embark on the Earth Rocker world tour beginning in The United Kingdom in January of 2013. In addition to the tour dates, the band will be available for press opportunities on select dates. A complete list of dates can be found below. A full United States and Canadian headline tour will follow and is slated to run from March 8th through April 20th.

The band has completed tracking Earth Rocker with Machine handling all production duties. Machine is currently in the mixing process on the album. Fans can keep up on the progress of Earth Rocker by visiting the new website www.earthrocker.com. The website will be a hub dedicated to all things Earth Rocker. Fans can expect to see daily updates including photos, videos from the studio, song title announcements and samples of new songs. In addition to the new website CLUTCH has joined the world of twitter. Follow CLUTCH on Twitter @ClutchOfficial.

Frontman Neil Fallon commented on the the recording process for Earth Rocker and how it differs from other CLUTCH albums:

“Last minute overdubs are fun. Harmonicas, tambourines (yes, we use those), claps, the odd backing vocal. Recording can be monotonous, so those unintended moments can be a lot of fun. It’s kind of like kindergarten music class, but with beer. And sometimes the spontaneity of a last ditch idea breathes a lot of life back into a song that we’ve been beating up for weeks on end. A looming deadline can be a great muse!”

He continues, “It has a lot in common with Blast Tyrant in that Machine’s production techniques are really unique. It differs from Blast Tyrant and a lot of other CLUTCH records in that, overall, the songs are faster and concise.”

When asked about how this record how it differs from other CLUTCH releases guitarist Tim Sult added, “As far as the composition of the songs go, this is the heaviest and fastest CLUTCH album to date. ”

Freelance Whales are named MTV PUSH Artist of The Week!

Play. Until. Someone. Hears. One artist plus one week equals one week of a big PUSH, which is essentially MTV’s newest initiative to place the spotlight on one artist you need to hear. Some artists you’ll be very familiar with – but you’ll need to know the latest info – other bands might be totally brand spankin’ new and out of the gate – acts you’ll want to learn all about. PUSH gives them all one week to shine featuring new videos, interviews, performances and exclusive clips.

After two years and over a dozen tours, Freelance Whales were feeling road-worn and eager to rediscover their creative process. They had been building on the grassroots appeal of their earthy debut, Weathervanes, for tens of thousands of miles. To tare the scale, the band embarked on a many faceted journey during which they found themselves isolated in West Kill, sprawled with their instruments in Hoboken, and packed into studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan. What resulted from nearly a year’s worth of creative productivity is the group’s second full-length, Diluvia (out October 9th on Mom+Pop/Frenchkiss).

Whereas Weathervanes was delivered from the perspective of a child infatuated with ayoung female ghost, Diluvia is a record about the possible survival – or peril – of space- faring humans and other arguably fantastical scenarios. Curiosity over these unknowns has evolved into notions of space exploration, ancient astronauts, dreams, and natural and artificial selection, with new songs building to expansive, atmospheric destinations. Working to evoke both prehistoric and pseudo-futuristic sensations, the record invites listeners to indulge in more elastic thought, perhaps, than it’s predecessor.

Diluvia, which was recorded over two months in New York City with producer Shane Stoneback, also finds Freelance Whales – Judah Dadone (vocals, guitar, banjo, synthesizers), Doris Cellar (bass, vocals), Chuck Criss (guitar, synthesizers, vocals), Jacob Hyman (drums, vocals), and Kevin Read (guitar, vocals) – exploring new instrumental experiences by blurring their trademark “organic” instruments with liberaluse of electronics and more aggressive rhythm. They may sound bigger, but Freelance Whales are no less committed to capturing intimacy though their music. Diluvia is an experiment in finding the confluence between science and emotion. Their hypothesis is that such a cathartic place exists, for both themselves and their fans, and it can be found somewhere in their new music.
