“A girl group-drenched dollop of wonderfulness.”
– THE GUARDIAN

“Vibrant pop songs infused with a colorful, swirly, breezy mix of classic 60’s pop sounds reminiscent of the Girl Group era, touches of the Beach Boys, The Zombies,
and the Left Banke.”
– XPN

“[Chalk And Numbers] pull from a wide array of influences to create their unique sound… modern and timeless simultaneously.”
– FILTER

Chalk And Numbers are a Brooklyn-based duo comprised of vocalist Sable Yong and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Pierce. Together Yong and Pierce craft catchy modern pop songs influenced by the 60’s musical cannon and analog recording technology, and today they’ve gifted us with a 60s-inspired cover of Misfits’ “Angelf*ck”, available for free download from The Wild Honey Pie — “With front woman Sable Young’s lush, flowing vocals and Andrew Pierce’s robust analog instrumentation… the band doesn’t get caught up in the Misfits’ fast-paced punk style, rather keeping their own pace and spinning their own originality and surf-rock style into the blindingly reckless punk rock original.”

Chalk and Numbers are currently working on their debut full length release as they prepare to attend SXSW 2014. Their latest EP, Parade, was released in March 2013 to positive reviews from Rolling Stone and The Guardian, who described the duo as a “a girl group-drenched dollop of wonderfulness”. Music from previous Chalk and Numbers releases has been featured on major network television shows such as Nashville,Awkward, and The Inbetweeners, and in 2012 the band contributed a song to the full length feature film “For A Good Time Call…”.

Late last year, Beats Per Minute premiered Chalk and Numbers’ cover of “Brave Boy Jump” — a Fraggle Rock song the band was asked to record for a special compilation being released by the official Jim Henson company. Other artists contributing covers include Animal Collective, Thee Oh Sees, Red Fang, City Lights, Sleepy Sun, and many more.Fraggle Rock – Shine On is currently looking at an early 2014 limited edition vinyl release.

If, while listening to Buke and Gase‘s critically acclaimed new record, General Dome, you ever got the urge to head-bang or punch the air, feel free to rejoice in your forward-thinking inclinations. Yes, there IS a heavy sound beneath Arone Dyer’s pop-leaning and acrobatic vocals, and you’re not the only one to notice. Metal supergroup Tomahawk(featuring Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, Trevor Dunn, also of Mr. Bungle, Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard, and John Stanier of Helmet and Battles) has asked Buke and Gase to join them for a series of shows in June. And to further show the versatility of Buke and Gase’s music, the band has also been asked to open for psychedelic chameleons Animal Collective in Washington, DC. Catch them live this summer!
