Now over 25 years into their distinguished career, DYING FETUS cement their legacy with Wrong One To Fuck With and uphold their position as the most dominant force in death metal today.

“ ‘Wrong One to Fuck With’ is business as usual for Dying Fetus: vertigo-inducing tech deedillydoo that makes it sound like John Gallagher’s fretboard is a minefield with lumbering, neolithic riffs sure to ignite your inner single-celled organisms’ innate desire to destroy.” – MetalSucks

“You would have to be out of your mind to pick a fight with those responsible for such merciless sonic violence.” –Outburn (10/10)

Rancid & Dropkick Murphys – From Boston To Berkeley Tour in Pittsburgh @StageAE 8/2

Along with full sets from Rancid and the Murphys, the two bands will come together onstage each night for a special joint encore.

Rancid and Dropkick Murphys have a long and important history together. Back in 1997, Rancid‘s Lars Frederiksen came across a copy of Dropkick Murphys‘ original EP at a friend’s house. He turned it over to his bandmate and Hellcat Records president Tim Armstrong, who quickly snatched up the band for his new label.

Rancid is looking forward to hitting the road with our brothers the Dropkick Murphys,” says Rancid‘s Tim Armstrong. “We will end the night with DKM and us playing songs together. Look out for The Bouncing SoulsThe SelecterKevin Seconds and Jake Burns to be on certain shows. SEE YA IN THE PIT!”

Rancid‘s Lars Frederiksen says, “It’s a long time coming with these two bands touring together. There is so much history between both of us that it should make for a great tour. We look forward to seeing all of our friends and family out there.”

Dropkick Murphys‘ Ken Casey comments, “This is a dream come true for Dropkick Murphys. Hopefully all the people coming to the shows will feel the same way. Rancid gave us our break — Timsigning us to his label, Lars producing our early albums…so much history and great memories. Now, literally sharing the stage together every night. This tour is going to destroy all others this summer!!!!”

The roots of Rancid are traceable back to Operation Ivy at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, CA. circa 1987. After Operation Ivy broke up, Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman went on to form Rancid. In 1993, they signed with longtime producer, and label founder, Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion and Epitaph Records, who would stay on with the band for the next 20 years as the band’s producer. Rancid (Tim ArmstrongLars FrederiksenMatt FreemanBranden Steineckert) has stayed independent. They have their own independent booking agent, they’re on an independent record label, Hellcat/Epitaph, and they make their own t-shirts. 2017 will see the release of Rancid‘s ninth studio album.

Dropkick Murphys are touring in support of their 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory album, released through the band’s own Born & Bred Records earlier this year. The album debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 and was the #1 independently released album. There’s a feeling of purpose throughout the album, influenced by the band’s work with The Claddagh Fund, a charity the band established in 2009 to help support addiction recovery as well as children’s and veterans’ organizations. Dropkick MurphysAl BarrTim BrennanKen CaseyJeff DaRosaMatt KellyJames Lynch—are hands-on in raising funds, mentoring, and lending a helping hand with veterans, youth sports, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Many of the songs reflect these experiences, and the band’s sadness, anger and dismay at the opiate epidemic ravaging the country — in particular, Boston and New England — and also their feeling of pride and optimism at the sight of those who have turned their lives around. Dropkick Murphys have become ambassadors for their city. In Boston, it seems like everybody knows someone connected to the band whether by blood, friendship, or the time they shared a brew at a Bruins game. They’ve built a legacy that does Beantown proud.

Detroit-based saajtak @Brillobox 6/11

Drawing from eclectic backgrounds, Detroit based avant-rock quartet saajtak channels the textural experimentalism of electronic music, the timbral and rhythmic intricacies of Indian classical music, the intimate communication of Deep-Listening rooted free improvisation, and the urgency of polymetric groove. Through ritualistic collaborative sessions, the ensemble creates unique audiovisual environments and genre defying compositions.

“With their combined forces, saajtak are nothing if not unpredictable, bobbing between feverish noise and lush, operatic soundscapes with the agility of a hummingbird… it is rare to see musicians thrive in this space as saajtak [does].” – Detroit Music Magazine

Saajtak brings meaning to each moment as they perform – eervescent, ethereal, and completely drool-worthy. One of our favorite bands in SE Michigan.” – Detroit Bureau of Sound

“Witnessing this group fuse their powers together and lock into their form of magic is nothing short of astounding. I just can’t even imagine how their songs and performances come together … Too amazing for words.” – Paul Simpson, Music Director at WCBN-FM

Propelled by a shared ainity for free improvisation, vocalist Alex Koi, electronic artist Simon Alexander-Adams, percussionist Jon Taylor and bassist Ben Willis developed a musical rapport in Creative Arts Orchestra, a large all-improvising ensemble at The University of Michigan. Felix Martin: Venezuelan Guitarist Wows Pittsburgh

Words and photos:  Stephanie Connell

On Wednesday, March 8, Felix Martin and his band entered the ballroom at James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy in Pittsburgh.  The James Street Speakeasy is a unique venue.  It has a jazzy, 1920s prohibition feel.   The ballroom itself, complete with a small bar and a man painting in the corner, felt more relaxed than I expected.  The venue had a formal, historic air mixing with today’s informal culture.

It was the perfect setting for Felix Martin, and his band (bassist Killian Duarte and drummer Victor Alvarez).

I have had minimal experience with musicians who play specialized guitars.  Most of my experience included very traditional sounds.  It had never crossed my mind that a guitar with more than six strings would be used for heavy metal.  Felix Martin greatly raised my expectations of this type of music.  His music has a heavier sound than I expected.

The band had a very positive attitude throughout the show.  Some technical difficulties stopped the show for a few minutes, and, even then, the group smiled and laughed.  The songs they played included Cardboard Roofs and Flashback.  Felix Martin left the crowd smiling and excited for the headliner for the night, Consider the Source.

FELIX MARTIN is a Venezuelan guitarist who is pioneering a style of playing the electric guitar by performing simultaneously with two of them as if they were one, creating a new sound on the instrument.

Felix is pushing music into new boundaries by mixing Rock and Metal with different styles such as Jazz, Progressive, World, Latin, Fusion, etc. The uniqueness of his guitars and technique allows him to create distinguished sounds that makes the music sound unique.

Felix has toured with his band that includes Berklee Alumni drummers and bassist Kilian Duarte throughout the USA, Europe and South America. Played in festivals such as Progressive Nation, SXSW, Euroblast, Tech-Fest and many more.

Felix uses his self-designed 14 and 16-string guitars, which are two regular guitars in one, in a way never seen or heard before. This opens up a new and hidden world for the electric guitar and instrumental music. Felix pioneered this style of playing at the age of 13, and as of 2014, he remains the only one in the world who plays this way (Felix Martin Facebook).

Michael Kelly Guitar Co. to Kickstart Lightweight Electric Guitar Collection

CLEARWATER, FL (Mar 21, 2017)— For Michael Kelly Guitar Co., innovation is more than a market experiment—it comes down to listening to the community of players and their needs. After analyzing customer interactions across multiple platforms, Michael Kelly determined there was a pressing need for a lighter weight electric guitar option. In listening to these needs, Michael Kelly is using Kickstarter to bring a brand new series of guitars to their community.

“Our players’ community has been a guiding force in the development of many of our recent collections,” says company founder Tracy Hoeft. “Repeatedly, we heard from many players who, because of various health reasons, truly needed a lighter guitar option. Some were ready to give up playing altogether. Now we are excited to be able to fill this need for players who want to keep making music.”

The company embarked on a two-year research and development effort that resulted in the Michael Kelly Enlightened Series collection, which will pre-launch on Kickstarter at the end of March before launching globally this summer. Each guitar in this series has a target weight of 6 pounds—30% lighter than traditional electrics—without compromising sonic quality or styling.

The Michael Kelly team of guitar experts knew the challenges before they embarked on this mission. But, the team was determined to addresses every challenge head-on with the goal of optimizing the player experience.

Starting with the body, Michael Kelly’s designers began to interview experts in tone wood from around the world. After testing a dozen varieties, they decided on a species of mahogany that delivered excellent tone while being significantly lower in weight than more commonly used tone woods. The body was also designed to be thinner than normal, providing a dual benefit of added comfort as well as weight reduction. The risk of negatively affecting the instrument’s tone as a result of removing weight was mitigated by lightening the area behind the bridge. The development of four ports further allowed the team to reduce weight while retaining the instrument’s tone.

Additionally, these guitars feature parts that have been tooled up with aluminum, rather than standard steel guitar parts. Aluminum also proved to be ideal for tone and improving instrument performance. In terms of balance, no detail was overlooked in trying to solve the neck-heavy weight problem. Adjustments included finding an alternative set of locations for the strap buttons to overcome the issue.

Of course, an expertly engineered, lightweight design is only as practical as the sonic quality it enables. Michael Kelly worked to identify the natural sonic profile of each guitar in the Enlightened Series. Each model has customized pickups to enhance sonic performance, as well as special electronics modifications that increase the selection of sounds to allow each player to fine-tune their favorites.

The Michael Kelly team can’t wait for players to try out this innovative “light-done-right” collection that won’t break the bank—or their back! Enlightened Series guitars will be priced beginning at MSRP $850. Stay tuned and visit the Kickstarter project page, www.MichaelKellyGuitars.com/ultralight to learn about exclusive incentives and rewards for pledges.

BATTLECROSS And WOVENWAR To Kick Off North American Tour With Soilwork, Unearth, And Darkness/ @Diesel Pittsburgh 11/12

Metal Blade lablemates BATTLECROSS and WOVENWAR will kick off their North American Fury tour tonight supporting Soilwork and Unearth. Set to commence in Providence, Rhode Island, the trek will coil its way through over two dozen venues, coming to a close on November 16th in Toronto, Ontario. Additional support will be provided by Darkness Divided.

Following the journey, BATTLECROSS will close 2016 with a three-week headlining run: the third installment of the Winter Warriors Tour. This year, support will be provided by Metal Blade labelmates Allegaeon and Necromancing The Stone. In conjunction with the Veterans Ticket Foundation, the Winter Warriors Tour will once again offer free admission to members of the US Armed Forces, and the band will donate a portion of their proceeds to local veterans’ organizations in each city. Veterans are invited to register for free tickets at vettix.org. BATTLECROSS will be touring in support of their latest album, Rise To Power, which landed on the Billboard charts at #103, marking the band’s second Billboard chart entry (2013’s War Of Will entered the charts at #130). To preview and purchase Rise To Power, visit: metalblade.com/battlecross.
On October 21st, WOVENWAR will release their sophomore album, Honor Is Dead. More aggressive and fluid than its self-titled predecessor, Honor Is Dead was written with contributions from all members, while the music for Wovenwar was mostly written before vocalist Shane Blay joined the band. The results speak for themselves, capturing a group that sounds truly unified, and hungry. Expanding upon the ruthlessly catchy melodies and hooks of their debut and driven by darker lyrical themes, Honor Is Dead makes for a listening experience with true depth, and a broad emotional range. To hear latest single, “World On Fire,” visit AltPress.com at THIS LOCATION where a drum play through for the track can be viewed, alongside an exclusive interview with drummer Jordan Mancino. HONKY: Texas-Based Superboogie Trio Announces More Live Dates

unnamed-21Texas-based superboogie trio HONKY, who spent much of the Summer waging their Lone Star booty-shakers upon European ears, will return to local stages next week for a short run of live dates through Texas and Louisiana with WhiskeyDick and Pure Luck. See all confirmed dates below.

HONKY features long time Butthole Surfers/part time Melvins bassist JD Pinkus, guitarist Bobby Ed Landgraf (Down, Skrew), and drummer Trinidad Leal (Dixie Witch). The band released their deliciously infectious Corduroy full-length earlier this year via Housecore Records. Produced by Pinkus and mastered by Paul Leary with artwork and layout by Ryan Everett, Corduroy boasts a talented cast of bashers alongside Leal including Michael “Night Train” Brueggen (Blackula, Syrup, Supagroup), Dale Crover (Melvins), and original HONKY drummer, Lance Farley as well as guest appearances from Mark “Speedy” Gonzales and the Fantasma Horns, and the band’s favorite Honkette, Rae Comeau.

Check out Corduroy, still streaming courtesy of Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION. For CD and blue vinyl orders, go to THIS LOCATION.

HONKY was founded in 1996 and proudly carries the torch held by the likes of Bloodrock, Pantera, ZZ Top, and the red-headed stranger himself, Mr. Willie Nelson. Over the course of two decades, the band has released some of the best stripped down, butt-shakin’, rock ever cut to wax, tape, or CD.

“New twists on old formulas are always welcome, but they’re also unnecessary for an act with a black belt in boogie.” – The Austin Chronicle

Corduroy is nine tracks of heavy rock where the dominant underlying subject is having a damn good time…” – New Noise Magazine

“Flawless, 1970s-inspired guitar rock…” – Heavy Metal Textbooks

“…it’s not often that you find a band that gets better with each and every album. HONKY is absolutely one of those few bands…” – Enfocus

“…there aren’t many bands that can successfully try and compete with Dusty, Frank and The Reverend Willy G but HONKY are out to at least bask in the reflected glory by playing the same kind of swaggering Texan blues rock as The Top with the Southern Trendkill of Pantera thrown in to make sure your hips are shaking and your teeth get kicked in… this is good shit” – Musipedia Of Metal

Jacob Whitesides Releases Debut Album ‘Why?’

WHY? DEBUTS AT NO. 1 ON ITUNES SINGER/SONGWRITER CHART
PERFORMING “LOVESICK” ON NBC’S TODAY ON SEPTEMBER 14 AND ABC’S LIVE WITH KELLY ON SEPTEMBER 15

LOS ANGELES, CA –  September 9, 2016 –  Jacob Whitesides today released his highly anticipated debut full length album WHY? via his own Double U Records. The album debuted at no. 1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart and is available now HERE. Tune in to NBC at 7:00amand ABC at 9:00am* to catch the performances.
*Check local listings
Why?, produced by Nashville-based David Spencer, showcases the soulful singing and songwriting of an 18-year old whose independent approach has captured the attention of critics and industry tastemakers as well as connecting with millions of fans around the world.
The album is a powerful thirteen-track collection of songs, brimming with standouts like the finger-clicked soul-pop of “Lovesick” (“A fun song about getting in trouble with your girl”) and “Focus,” which reflects on the stress of a love in our current culture of distraction. Whitesides’ songs are, by and large, heartfelt and relatable. Sometimes they’re lighthearted, but even when they’re upbeat, there’s often another level to the lyrics as the listener dives deeper into the music.  “Love Slow” was inspired by the struggle of being 18 and in a relationship, and on “Bury Our Love” when he sings, “I was old before I was young” the line rings particularly true, echoing his musical talents and accomplishments.
Why? is the follow-up to Whitesides two chart-topping EPs A Piece of Me and Faces On Film (both which stood for days at #1 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart in 2015). A Piece of Me produced the unintentional hit “Not My Type At All.” The track became the No. 1 most requested on Radio Disney and received heavy rotation on Sirius XM’s “Coffee House” alongside such heavyweights as Coldplay, Paul Simon, and Ray LaMontagne. Additionally, Jacob enters his debut album campaign as the only artist to be chosen as MTV’s “Artist to Watch,” Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing,” Pandora’s “Artist to Watch,” and Spotify’s “Artist to Watch” for 2016, all concurrently.
Later this month, Jacob will embark on a fall tour supporting Ben Rector. A list of dates can be found below. Tickets and on-sale information can be found at www.jacobwhitesides.com.
