August Burns Red Gives Altar Bar One Last Performance

Story/Photos David Mondine

As most Pittsburgh natives have heard, one of the best venues in the area was closing down at the end of July, but there was going to be a final farewell that would definitely fit Altar Bar’s ten years of service by having a weeks’ worth of shows to make up for the sudden demise of the beloved venue.  Sadly, due to building issues, they could not properly give that goodbye at Altar Bar, but instead the Rex Theater; another venue through Drusky Entertainment.  Luckily, the shows went on in celebrating Altar Bar’s years of service with a fantastic lineup of shows including a Pittsburgh favorite in the metal community, August Burns Red.

It was not too long ago that ABR stopped by Pittsburgh with the legendary Between the Buried and Me on a co-headlining tour.  Now they are back for not just one, but two nights of head banging, moshing, and singalongs at the Rex Theater on South Side.  It was a different change of pace to see them like this, mainly because they pulled out some older songs to play for this two night show for a total of thirty songs in which only five were repeated.

From start to finish, the show was really nonstop for ABR along with the crowd.  Between a spectacular performance and this being the last few shows ever to be played at Altar Bar (even though it was not), there was no way that this could not be a great couple of nights for everyone.  All of this would sooner or later have to come to an end… but it was nice to have a band that loved Altar Bar so much that they were more than willing to play two nights for one of their favorite venues.  With that being said, and with a heavy heart, we say farewell to Altar Bar along with a huge thank you to them and August Burns Red for one of the greatest ways to say goodbye you could ever wish for.

I Prevail @ Altar Bar on July 31st

Detroit rock band I Prevail  recently announced a headline North American tour, which will stop in Pittsburgh for a show at Altar Bar on July 31st

I Prevail gained global notoriety in early 2015 with a massively successful cover of Taylor Swift’s hit “Blank Space,” which garnered a Top 20 slot on the Active Rock Radio charts, mass media attention and has gone on to sell over 300,000 copies and 22+ million streams/views. Following the overwhelming reception of “Blank Space,” the band recorded their debut EP, Heart Vs. Mind, that has sold over 50,000 copies to date.
The band also just announced they’ll be releasing their highly anticipated debut, full-length album, Lifelines, later this year. Check out their new song “Scars” herehttps://youtu.be/tZzL4jI60p4

Reggie and The Full Effect at Altar Bar Pittsburgh

From The Get Up Kids to a stint with My Chemical Romance,  keyboardist James Dewees, is a one man wrecking crew.  Not that he came alone to Altar Bar in Pittsburgh on Saturday night February 15, 2014, but he has proven himself to be a hilarious force to be reckoned with.  Since the mid 1990’s Dewees has been toying with the sounds of “Reggie” and has always taken a bit of the joke approach.  But the music is certainly no joke.  In 2008 Dewees put Reggie and The Full Effect to rest for a bit only to resurrect them with a Kickstarter campaign in March of 2013 to fund the fantastically fun  No Country For Old Musicians.  Although Dewees plays nearly every instrument on Reggie’s recordings, he obviously cannot replicate that live, thus he brought in his band for the tour, but Reggie’s lineup for live performances changes frequently.  Check out our review of No Country For Old Musicians here.

And check out some pix from their stellar performance at Altar Bar…

Tribal Seeds Announce Spring Headlining REPRESENTING Tour/Altar Bar PGH 3/30

“Their fun, positive, socially conscious music resonates with everyone who hears it. […]

‘Representing’ should only solidify them as one of the nation’s premiere reggae rock bands.” – NBC San Diego

“Tribal Seeds are still at the top of the game. Their addictive roots-inspired sound is always catchy and

fits in perfectly with the vocal style” – Music Bailout

Most Anticipated Albums of 2014 – The Pier

San Diego, CA – February 12, 2014 – World-renowned Billboard Reggae Chart-topping group Tribal Seeds announce today they will release their fourth studio album this Spring entitled Representing. Tribal Seeds will celebrate the new album release by hitting the road on a 35-date national “Representing Tour” this Spring with support from New Kingston and Inna Vision. The tour will kick-off in Flagstaff, AZ on February 28th and includes stops in all major markets spanning from Texas to Florida to Vermont to Oregon and everywhere in between. Tickets are on sale now, here: www.tribalseeds.net.

While the release date, track listing, and album details are still TBA, Tribal Seeds is excited to announce today that the new album Representingwill feature Vaughn Benjamin of Midnite on the title track. Also featured will be past tour mate, Kyle McDonald of Slightly Stoopid on “In Your Area”, plus reggae greats Don Carlos & Michael Rose, featured in “Blood Clot” and Herb Stock” respectively. Current touring partners New Kingston also make an appearance on “Fill It Up” and rounding up the featured guests is Tribal Seeds’ own guitarist, Gonzo who will display his singing talent in the song “Undercover Lover.” The forthcoming full-length album was recorded in Southern California’s Imperial Sound, a recording studio owned and operated by Tribal Seeds’ own E.N. Young (keyboardist/ backup vocalist) and interestingly the most Southwest recording studio in the United States. Tribal Seeds’ own Tony-Ray “Maad T-Ray” Jacobo along with the rest of the band members continue to produce their own music.

This forthcoming full-length album is a follow-up to their 2011 EP “Soundwaves” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Charts.Representing also marks the band’s first full-length release since 2009’s The Harvest, a 14-track album that landed on the iTunes “Best of Reggae” list and peaked at #5 on the Billboard Reggae Charts. While the last Tribal Seeds albums were inspired by touring and the band’s desire to inspire youth to raise their voices, their new album strives to take that message even further. As Tony-Ray explains it,  “this album promotes and inspires a positive and uplifting message which you can’t help but vibe to.”

Hailing from San Diego, California, Tribal Seeds have become known for their spiritually driven, refreshing rock vibe they have infused with the roots style of reggae music. What began as a side-project – formed in 2006 by musically gifted brothers Steven Rene Jacobo (lead vocals, guitar) and TonyRay “Maad T-Ray” Jacobo (producer, keyboards, back-up vocals), Tribal Seeds has grown into a movement. The band is one of the most award-winning, top-selling, musically talented, and fan-adored artists in not only the reggae world, but also across the music industry. Tribal Seeds now boasts six powerful members, including: Carlos Verdugo (drums), Victor Navarro (bass), E.N Young (keyboards, back up vocals) & Ryan Gonzo (guitar).

Tribal Seeds has collaborated in the studio with top artists including Sonny Sandoval (P.O.D), Eric Rachmany (Rebelution), Kyle McDonald (Slightly Stoopid), and reggae legend Don Carlos. Over the years the band has shared the stage with music’s most respected artists such as Dave Mathews Band, Jack White, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Skrillex, MGMT, Cee Lo Green, Jason Mraz, Matisyahu, Sublime with Rome, Taking Back Sunday, O.A.R., Pretty Lights, Pepper, Collie Buddz, The Wailers, Julian Marley, Stephen Marley, Slightly Stoopid, Gregory Isaacs, SOJA, Rebelution, and many more.

Tribal Seeds takes great pride in equally focusing on the art of producing high quality recorded music and the art of putting on an outstanding live show. The band maintains a strict regimen of tirelessly touring to spread their positive vibes and contagious tunes across the nation and beyond – playing shows as far as Mexico, Guam, and Aruba to continue expanding their reach. The band consistently performs for sold-out crowds and impressively has the keen ability to both cater to their fanbase while still pushing the limits of their music. The formula is working – Tribal Seeds currently boasts 190,000+ Facebook fans, 25,000+ Twitter followers, a true representation of the network of steadfast fans that remain the heartbeat, pulse, and inspiration for the band.

Tribal Seeds will release Representing this Spring and kick-off the Representing Tour on February 28th. For more details visitwww.tribalseeds.net.

Weird Kids,” produced by John Feldmann (The Used, Yellowcard, All Time Low, Panic! At The Disco), is WATIC’s follow-up release to their successful debut album, “Best Intentions,”which launched the band into worldwideexposure – debuting at 122 on theBillboard Top 200 and landing the band on the covers of Alternative Press and Kerrang! Magazine. The band garnered over 3 million YouTube views for their “Never Be What You Want (Acoustic)” music video, received a prestigious Kerrang! Awards nomination for Best International Newcomer in 2011, and rocked major festivals like Reading and Leeds and international tours with bands including All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Yellowcard, Never Shout Never and many more. While some bands might be content to rest on the laurels of newfound success, WATIC had no such interest, heading into the studio with more ambition than ever.

In the studio, Feldmann acted as a catalyst, pushing the band to step out of their comfort zone and helping them reach their full creative potential as a band. In addition to the snarky, wit that is characteristic of WATIC, Weird Kids put forth their most diverse material to date – and exposes an intimate, more personal side of Jardine that allows listeners into her world in a way they haven’t been before.

The Poughkeepsie, NY quintet – consisting of lead vocalist Tay Jardine, vocalist/guitarist Jordan Eckes, guitarist Cameron Hurley, bassist Mike Ferri and drummer Rob Chianelli – is back after four whirlwind years together with a determination and drive that has turned first-time listeners into diehard fans, with the aid of Jardine’s infectious attitude and spunky, quick-witted personality. She’s got the type of stage presence that drives guys crazy (in a good way) while making girls want to emulate her.

We Are The In Crowd just wrapped up their UK tour with Neck Deep and Save Your Breath. They kick off their North “Reunion Tour 2014” with William BeckettSet It off, State Champs and Candy Hearts on February 21st. Download a tour sampler here.

“I don’t know that I’ve felt this way about our other records,” says Jardine, proudly. She continues, “I’ve been proud of our band for finishing an album. I was happy we got it done. But I’m really proud of this record, and that’s not something I can say easily…I’m as happy with it as I possibly could be.”

Chimaira, iwrestledabearonce, Oceano, Fit For An Autopsy, and Reflections Show How It’s Done at Altar Bar Pittsburgh

What could be said to be one of the best hardcore line-ups on tour currently, Chimaira stacked the deck  last Wednesday night at Altar Bar Pittsburgh.  With well known and diverse talents such as iwrestledabearonce, Oceano, Fit For An Autopsy, and Reflections the place was packed to the rafters and supported a pretty intense mosh pit as well.  Check ou the reviews of each band and the pictures that follow…all photos © 2014 AWeldingphoto and Pittsburgh Music Magazine.

Vocalist Mark Hunter of Chimaira may be the only original member, but don’t let that deter your listening pleasure.  On tour supporting, Crown of Phantoms, these guys are firing on all cylinders.  New guitarist Matt Szlachta and not exactly new to the band but new to lead guitar, Emil Werstler played with fire and passion and the crowd certainly did not seem to mind the changes.  It was great to have them back in Pittsburgh, it seems we always have to travel to their hometown of Cleveland to catch them.  Hopefully they will come by the ‘Burg more often.

ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4 ch5 ch6 ch7 ch8 ch9 ch10 ch11 ch12 ch13 ch14

iwrestledabearonce showed why they have become a fan favorite early on in the evening.  Courtney LaPlante has a voice that a ton of hardcore vocalists would kill for, but it’s her sense of humor and stage presence that will win you over as well.  In support of their 2013 release Late For Nothing, IWABO have the ability to present some cross genre material along with a light-hearted attitude without ever giving up the hard edge of the music.  LaPlante has done a helluva job replacing Krysta Cameron  who had become pregnant, went on hiatus, and then was permanently replaced.

iwab1 iwab2 iwab3 iwab4 iwab5 iwab6 iwab7 iwab8 iwab9

Hailing from Chicago, and supporting their third full-length album, Incisions, Oceano was brutal and spot on.  With vocals reminiscent of Whitechapel and ear bleeding metalcore/death metal, these angry young dudes bring it and bring it hard.  We here at PMM expect and predict huge things for this band and won’t be surprised if they are headlining some stages in a few years.  Yes, they are that sick.

IMG_4205 oc1 oc2 oc3 oc4 oc5 oc6

Reflections debut (second record) on eOne and Good Fight came out in 2013, making them relative newcomers.  But, these guys are amazing musicians and have great chops and produce some pyrotechnics on guitar.  They are definitely heavy, a bit djent, a bit metalcore and deathcore, and maybe even progressive metal, Reflections have a long future ahead of them.  These guys will definitely be around again and you definitely don’t want to miss them because they are making some awesome sounds.

Records on February 25th. Following appearances at SXSW 2014, the tour will begin in Santa Ana, Calif., on March 18th and finishes up in Philadelphia on April 4th. Please see below for all dates.

Before the U.S. tour begins, SKATERS will celebrate the release of Manhattan with a hometown album party show at The Bowery Ballroom the night before album street date on February 24th.They will then leave for the U.K., where they have amassed a loyal following, for a string of shows.

Manhattan is already attracting glowing headline in advance of its release:

“Hubbard provides layered guitar chords that are more waves of sound than riffs, adding to the feeling of isolation. Meanwhile, Cummings’ detached voice adds another element of frost, further referencing the band’s post-punk influences.” –RollingStone.Com

“The mod-rockers combine The Strokes ragged melodies, hints of 2tone’s checkerboard tempo swings and Britpop’s hooligan smirk, plus new Wave’s baritone strut and hardcore ‘s sprint; the result reverberates with unbridled energy.” – Electronic Musician Magazine

“A band with the garage revivalist instincts and lo-fi cool to finally bring guitars back into fashion.” —NME (UK)

SKATERS have recently shot a video for the song “Miss Teen Massachusetts.” Click here to view and post.

THE OCEAN Prepares For Co-Headlining Tour With Scale The Summit/Altar Bar PGH 3/26

In just over a month, THE OCEAN will be returning to North America for the first time since last year’s Summer Slaughter takeover. Sponsored by MetalSucks, the journey will commence on March 5th in Seattle, include two performances in Austin, Texas at SXSW and finds the band co-headlining with Prosthetic Recording artists Scale the Summit. Additional support will be provided by special guests The Atlas Moth and Silver Snakes.
The tour welcomes new THE OCEAN recruits, drummer Paul Seidel and guitarist Damian Murdoch, who replace Luc Hess and Jona Nido, both of whom departed the band on mutual terms late last year. Two live videos have been made available from The Summer Slaughter Tour stop at the Rave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fans can watch “Demersal: Cognitive Dissonance” (featuring guest vocals from CJ of Thy Art is Murder) HERE .

Comments THE OCEAN founding guitarist Robin Staps: “Summer Slaughter was the final US tour for Luc and Jona. These clips bring back good memories of our last Summer together and a lot of crazy parties in parking lots across the country. Now I’m really looking forward to getting back to the US with our new guys. We’ve started rehearsing for our upcoming tours this week, and there’s a really good vibe in the room. We’re hungry to get out again, we’ve only been home for two months now but it already feels too long.”

DELAIN Confirm Special Guest Vocalists on The Human Contradiction

DELAIN will not only enthrall Symphonic Metal Fans with their fourth albumThe Human Contradiction, but also will bring listeners new to the genre. The band revolving around the supreme Charlotte Wessels have confirmed two special guests for their upcoming release.

The first guest vocalist is Marco Hietala of Nightwish/Tarot, he provides guest vocals on the tracks “Your Body is a Battleground” and “Sing to Me”.

The band commented on working with Marco Hietala again:

“We are very excited about the much anticipated return of vocal force Marco Hietala on our upcoming record. After our collaboration with Marco on our first two albums we can’t help but hearing his voice in some of the songs we write! We love his contributions on The Human Contradiction: Marco adds greatly to the power of “Your Body Is A Battleground” as well as to the melancholia of “Sing To Me”.

Marco added: “I’ve done quite a few visitations on select albums during my career. DELAIN and their albums are among the most frequent. If you listen to their stuff, you´ll know why. Martijn and his group seem to have plenty to say both musically and lyrically. Keep it up mates!”

The second special guest on The Human Contradiction is Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonst.  The band and Alissa spoke about the collaboration:

DELAIN: “We are really excited about Alissa’s addition to our new record! Alissa needs no introduction: we love her great, versatile and powerful vocal style and after spending time on the road with Alissa on our tour with Kamelot last fall, we simply needed her awesomeness 🙂 Both Alissa’s clean vocals and signature screams are featured on the record’s finale “The Tragedy Of The Commons”. We can’t wait to share the song with you!”

Alissa: “After a couple days of touring with DELAIN, I HAD to go buy a CD or two. This band blew me away with their intelligent songs, energetic yet extremely precise live show and overall charisma. Sure enough, after buying an album at their merch table and listening to it on repeat while working out, my suspicions were confirmed: DELAIN IS AN AWESOME BAND! I’m very flattered and honored to participate in their upcoming album. I see DELAINgoing very far, I wish them nothing but success and I’m glad to contribute my share!”

The album will be released in North America on April 8th via Napalm Records; pre-order opportunities will be made available soon.

CHIMAIRA comes to Pittsburgh/Altar Bar Feb 5

To live in Cleveland, Ohio, more of a sunken hole than a driven notch in the Midwest rustbelt, is to not only encounter, but embrace the crippling winters, the broken jawed economy, and the expectations of defeat. All of which culminate in the very specific attitude of not only being an asshole, but being an asshole and an underdog. None of this is lost on Chimaira. After twelve years of defining what Cleveland metal and brutal music should sound like, Chimaira advances their trademarked brand of heavy with their latest monster, “The Age of Hell.”

As with most Chimaira records (and everything Cleveland) the composition of the record was fraught with adversity. Longtime drummer Andols Herrick, bass player Jim Lamarca and electronic knob twister Chris Spicuzza had fallen away from the band. This left Chimaira’s flagship member and singer Mark Hunter and guitarists Rob Arnold and Matt Devries with an album to record for their debut on eOne Music / Long Branch with no rhythm section or an effects specialist. The splintered Chimaira could have stared at the sun dissecting separate fires then converging into a singular sphere of blinding defeat. Most bands would have. But most bands aren’t from Cleveland. And only one band is Chimaira. Instead, Hunter, Arnold, and Devries pushed themselves into frequent collaborator Ben Schigel’s Spider Studios with bloodied teeth and balled fists, hell bent on birthing what anyone else would have aborted.

Instead of filling the cavities in the lineup with new members, Hunter, Arnold, and Schigel took on the roles themselves, constructing each of the songs creating electronic auras and having Schigel man the drums. After only eight weeks in the lab Chimaira emerged with their sixth album. A series of songs that extract the hallmark elements of the band braiding them together in a pastiche of soaring violence, vacuum sealed riffing and memorable hooks giving the listener a hellish train ride that leaves them drooling. “This is Chimaira.”

The eponymous opening track summons the ferocity of a band hungry and disgusted. Mark Hunter’s guttural barks declare a twisted war while the guitars shift from ravenous chugging to soaring leads. “Clockwork,” a song that refuses to grow stale after countless plays provides a chorus that sees the band tastefully using layers of clean vocals while not sacrificing Chimaira’s severity, a theme throughout the album. Tracks like “Losing My Mind” and “Time is Running Out” lyrically reflect the tribulations of a group under the gun and both include the band’s signature groove that is utterly crushing. But it’s songs like “Trigger Finger,” “Born in Blood,” and “Scapegoat” that will leave janitor’s mopping up blood from venue floors across the world.

Throughout the record the sonic layers are far from trite ear candy, giving an oceanic depth to each track. Solos and leads by Arnold confirm his status as the next shredder to beat. Schigel on drums goes from syncopated to bar room brawler and back again with no regrets for the jaws he dropped along the way.

Beyond the stellar musicianship and crisp yet raw mixing from metal mastering mainstay Zeuss however, is the song writing. It’d be easy for a veteran metal band to fart out an album of “borecore” breakdowns and 0-1-0 bullshit riffs. But Chimaira never settle. The power, authenticity and forward momentum of the “The Age of Hell” are complimented, never betrayed by the band’s technical prowess. Listeners will leave this record equally frustrated that they can’t figure out how to play the tracks, as they are wanting to scream along in their cars or at Chimaira’s legendary live experiences.

After the album was recorded, Chimaira was faced with adding musicians to take on the road. Austin D’amond had been drumming for Rob Arnold’s side project called The Elite and with his fusion of technical mastery and breakneck, spine shaking power came as an easy fit. Emil Werstler lead face melter of metal peers in Daath and provider of the epic solo on “Saṃsāra” folds seamlessly in on bass while Werstler’s Daath frontman Sean Z will thread his hands through the various wires and triggers of Chimaira’s electronics. Chimaira, as it was forced to be in the past, was anew.

And now the eclipse of what you thought you knew about contemporary metal has begun. There is a new definition announced by distorted, yet familiar faces. Chimaira will take you through “The Age of Hell.” Let’s hope you are prepared.

“Windows In Heaven” sees Jardine at her most vulnerable, singing a ballad about her late father. “‘Windows In Heaven’ is a very personal song,” says Jardine, “When someone close to you passes away, after awhile you begin to wonder how they would preserve you if they were still here. In my case, it’s my Dad. One of the happiest and inspiring people I have ever known,” She continues, “My dad was a musician, and he’s always in my head when we’re out reaching these milestones in our band’s career. When we got signed, when we play a big show, I always wish I could call him and tell him about it. We played the main stage at Reading and Leeds and I remember looking up and thinking, ‘Would you be proud of me?’ This song helps remind me who he is to me.”

The Poughkeepsie, NY quintet – consisting of lead vocalist Jardine, vocalist/guitarist Jordan Eckes, guitarist Cameron Hurley, bassistMike Ferri and drummer Rob Chianelli – is back after four whirlwind years together with a determination and drive that has turned first-time listeners into diehard fans, with the aid of Jardine’s infectious attitude and spunky, quick-witted personality. She’s got the type of stage presence that drives guys crazy (in a good way) while making girls want to emulate her.

“Windows In Heaven” is the fourth song to be released off We Are The In Crowd’s upcoming album, following “Attention,” “The Best Thing (That Never Happened)” and “Long Live The Kids.” With each new song bringing the anticipation for the full album higher, tastemakers including FUSE have named “Weird Kids” one of their “Most Anticipated Albums” of 2014 and MTV Buzzworthy has coined Jardine as one of the “15 Fresh Females Who Will Rule Pop in 2014.”  Check out the action-packed music video for “The Best Thing (That Never Happened)” directed by Mark Staubach (Lupe Fiasco, Travie McCoy, Cody Simpson) here:http://youtu.be/BFqtasnu7y8.

We Are The In Crowd are currently overseas and kick off their UK headlining run with Neck Deep and Save Your Breath on January 29thThey head back to the US this February for their “Reunion Tour 2014” with William BeckettSet It off, State Champs andCandy Hearts. Download a tour sampler here.

SnoCore Begins Next Week, Additions to Lineup – Feb 17 Pittsburgh Date

EMPIRE STREET JOINS LINE-UP WHICH INCLUDES HEAVEN’S BASEMENT, THE LETTER BLACK, CROBOT AND ONE LUCKY WINNING BAND FROM EACH MARKET

The SnoCore Tour, a celebration of music and winter sports, is back after a two-year absence and kicking off on January 29, 2014 in Lincoln, NE.  The tour has spanned more than fourteen years, running annually from 1996 to 2010 and was established as a way to fill the musical void during the winter months which was traditionally overlooked by other tour packages that are focused on spring and summer. In its first year, SnoCore showcased such bands as Sublime and Less Than Jake, over the years everyone from Blink-182 to Incubus to Everclear to System of a Down graced the SnoCore stage. Now, after a brief hiatus, Wind-up Records and TKO are proud to be uniting to bring SnoCore back to the winter 2014 music scene and back to its roots.

The Pretty Reckless is headlining all of the dates, Heaven’s Basement, The Letter Black, Crobot plus one band chosen from the international artist platform, ReverbNation, will also be on the bill January 29 – February 13, after that Heaven’s Basement will exit the tour and Empire Street will join as the opener February 14 – February 23. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here; tour dates and more information about the bands listed below.

The Pretty Reckless will release their sophomore studio album Going To Hell  March 18 via Razor & Tie, pre-orders are available now here.  The band formed in 2009 and released their debut album Light Me Up in 2010 as well as a follow-up EPHit Me Like A Man in 2012. After two years on the road supporting Light Me Up, the band has risen through rock ‘n’ roll’s ranks to become a polarizing presence. Over the course of their debut and EP, the quartet has sold over one million combined albums and digital singles and have supported Evanescence, Guns N’ Roses and Marilyn Manson on tour in addition to headline runs in both the U.S. and abroad. Momsen and her bandmates delivered nothing short of killer performances on their just-wrapped headlining North American “Going To Hell Tour” and the band will support Fall Out Boy on tour in Europe March 2014 after SnoCore wraps.  Watch the Fan Instagram video for the current single “Heaven Knows”,about to break the Rock Radio Top 20, and view the music video for “Going To Hell”, both tracks from the forthcoming album.

Heaven’s Basement have been making a name for themselves via their relentless touring and fiery live show plus music that features huge guitar riffs, killer melodies and an arena-rock sound.  Formed in the East Midlands in England, Heaven’s Basement have toured with the likes of The Pretty Reckless, Black Veil Brides, Papa Roach, Shinedown, Halestorm, Seether and more.  Kerrang declared, “Heaven’s Basement play as if their lives depend on it.  They should already be a big name – bristling riffs and jagged, riotous hooks are their poison and exceptional is not too strong a word.”  The band’s debut album, FILTHY EMPIRE, is in stores now via Red Bull Records; the first single from the album, “Fire, Fire,” cracked the Top 10 on the Active Rock Radio chart.  Heaven’s Basement’s new single, “Nothing Left To Lose,” is set to impact at Active Rock in January; the video can be seen here.  Heaven’s Basement is Aaron Buchanan (vocals), Sid Glover (guitar), Rob Ellershaw (bass), and Chris Rivers (drums).

The Letter Black burst onto the alternative rock landscape with their EP followed by the full-length debut, Hanging On By A Thread, in 2010 – now one of label Tooth & Nail’s top selling debuts in recent memory. The Letter Black has also had radio success with four radio singles from their debut, “Best of Me” (CHR No. 17), “Hanging On By A Thread” (CHR No. 23, Rock No. 6), “Believe” (Rock No. 4) and “New Fire” (Rock No. 17). Media have also gravitated to this heavy-hitting band as they have been covered in Revolver, AOL Noisecreep and AOL RadioBlog.  Tooth & Nail Records’ Pennsylvania-based rockers released their sophomore project, Rebuild in November 2013. The band is vocalist Sarah Anthony, guitarist Mark Anthony, bassist Matt Beal and drummer Taylor Carroll.

Central Pennsylvania band Crobot recently signed to Wind-up Records.  The band is currently in the studio with famed producer Machine (Clutch, Lamb of God, Cobra Starship, Gym Class Heroes) to work on their 2014 Wind-up album release, the follow-up to their self-released debut album, The Legend of the Spaceborne Killer.  Crobot embodies a mixture of groove-heavy riff-rock that will want to make you bang your head and shake your ass.  Think of them as Wolfmother’s American cousins on acid who smell like leather and whose music scorches your ears like hot sauce to the taste.   You can’t help but feel that you are taken into another dimension and back again with the songs of Crobot.  Crobot will be on tour in select cities across the United States in 2014 with Clutch and The Sword before heading out with SnoCore.  Crobot is Brandon Yeagley (Lead Vocals, Harmonica), Chris Bishop (Guitar, Vocals), Jake Figuroa (Bass) and Paul Figuroa (Drums).

After recently inking a publishing deal with NYC’s Roundhill Music, Boston based band Empire Street have been writing with Nashville-based producer/songwriter Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Carrie Underwood, Buckcherry).  Empire Street has been on the road in support of their recently released self-titled debut EP while gaining national attention for their unique sound and insanely energetic live performances. Their current single “Freak Out” was featured in Lifetime’s House of Versace (Gena Gershon, Raquel Welch); “Get Up” is featured on ESPN’s Mint Condition. Empire Street is Jim “Sippo” Cipollini, Mike “Fitz” Fitzmaurice, Dennis Walsh and Mike Delaney.

Using ReverbNation’s state-of-the-art reviewing dashboard, SnoCore will choose an up-and-coming artist to play in each market. Over three million musicians and bands use ReverbNation to manage their online presence and advance their careers through strategic industry opportunities. ReverbNation artists can submit to be selected through the opportunity listings in their free online profile here from January 29 through February 23.

Fans can also pre-order the album through Best Buy to receive two exclusive bonus tracks here: http://bit.ly/1dwerSI. About the inspiration behind new song, “Long Live The Kids,” Jardine says, “Growing up in a small town, it was always difficult to see opportunity. But I had to look past it and stay determined.” She continues, “‘Long Live The Kids’ really represents staying true to yourself and holding on to your dreams, even when your surroundings doubt you. Capture that feeling of being a kid- when you were braver than ever and inspired by a tall tree to climb.”

Weird Kids,” produced by John Feldmann (The Used, Yellowcard, All Time Low, Panic! At The Disco), is WATIC’s follow-up release to their successful debut album, “Best Intentions,”which launched the band into worldwideexposure – debuting at 122 on the Billboard Top 200 and landing the band on the covers of Alternative Press and Kerrang!

In addition to the snarky, wit that is characteristic of WATIC, Weird Kids put forth their most diverse material to date – and exposes a vulnerable, more personal side of Jardine that allows listeners into her world in a way they haven’t been before.

The Poughkeepsie, NY quintet – consisting of lead vocalist Jardine, vocalist/guitarist Jordan Eckes, guitarist Cameron Hurley, bassist Mike Ferri and drummerRob Chianelli – is back after four whirlwind years together with a determination and drive that has turned first-time listeners into diehard fans, with the aid of Jardine’s infectious attitude and spunky, quick-witted personality. She’s got the type of stage presence that drives guys crazy (in a good way) while making girls want to emulate her.

Until now, We Are The In Crowd has been an up-and-comer. A promising young band. A group full of potential. The new kids on an already crowded block. Weird Kids is here to change that.

We Are The In Crowd recently release an action-packed music video, for “The Best Thing (That Never Happened),” directed by Mark Staubach (Lupe Fiasco, Travie McCoy, Cody Simpson)Check it out here: http://youtu.be/BFqtasnu7y8.

Previously unreleased “A Memory Construct” and “Sorrows Architect”, previously only available as a limited flexi 7″ released with issue #106 of Decibel Magazine.

The band comments on “A Memory Construct” single: “This was originally written (as the name implies) as the title track for the “Construct” album, but was later deemed too different to be included without interrupting the flow of the main record. “Sorrow’s architect” is probably our darkest song in a while; a brooding track that gradually builds up to a climatic ending.”

The SnoCore Tour, a celebration of music and winter sports, is back after a two-year absence.

“We are thrilled to be re-launching SnoCore!” says Ed Vetri President and CEO of Wind-up Records. “This tour has been a fan favorite since it began and has always featured both established and up and coming amazing live bands.  We are looking forward to making this THE winter music event for many years to come.”

The Pretty Reckless is headlining, Heaven’s Basement, The Letter Black, Crobot plus one band chosen from the international artist platform, ReverbNation, will also play in each market. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here. Tour dates and more information is listed below.

The Pretty Reckless will release their sophomore studio album Going To Hell this March via Razor & Tie.  The band formed in 2009 and released their debut album Light Me Up in 2010 as well as a follow-up EP Hit Me Like A Man in 2012. Watch the Fan Instagram video for the current single “Heaven Knows”, about to break the Rock Radio Top 20, and view the music video for “Going To Hell”, both tracks from the forthcoming album.

THE ATARIS ANNOUNCE ‘SO LONG, ASTORIA’ REUNION TOUR/ 3/25 Altar Bar PGH

For the first time in a decade, the classic lineup of The Ataris will reconvene to perform their million-selling album, So Long, Astoria, in its entirety from start to finish.   For one tour only, Kristopher Roe, Mike Davenport, Chris Knapp and John Collura will share the stage to celebrate their beloved album, performing fan-favorite hits like “So Long, Astoria,” “The Saddest Song” and their iconic version of Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer.”  Support will include: Authority ZeroDrag The RiverVersus The World andGasoline Heart.  Tickets for the upcoming tour will go on sale to the public on December 20th.
In conjunction with today’s tour announcement, The Ataris has released part one of a new mini-documentary about the band’s reunion and the making of So Long, Astoria.  Watch it now, exclusively at Billboard.comhttp://bit.ly/1dkWcOE.
Formed in 1996, The Ataris went on to sell hundreds of thousands of albums on small independent label Kung Fu Records before signing to Columbia Records in 2001.  In 2003, the band released their career-defining album, So Long, Astoria, which sold over a million copies and spawned the hits, “In this Diary,” “The Saddest Song” and “Boys of Summer.”
After headlining multiple Warped Tours and selling out major tours of their own, the classic line-up of The Ataris disbanded in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of influence and rock-radio anthems that still live on today.
A decade later, that lineup will reunite for one tour to celebrate So Long, Astoria, an album that helped redefine punk rock in the early 2000’s with vivid confessionals and melodic heartfelt sing-alongs.
“I’m looking forward to going out and bringing these songs to a crowd and really giving it our all, and hopefully bringing some of these fun memories back to our fans,” singer/guitarist Kristopher Roe says.  “I really feel like the most important thing is to be reconnected with three of my old best friends.  I’m excited to go out and make music with them again.”
“It’s a lot of nostalgia to come back and do this tour,” guitarist John Collura adds.  “It’s a celebration of what the four of us accomplished as a band.”
“This tour, for me, means more of redemption,” concludes bassist Mike Davenport.  “Us four reunited again, performing what I think is one of our best albums.”
“I haven’t seen these guys in forever,” drummer Chris Knapp says.  “It’s going to be crazy.”
