Affiance Calls All Warriors at Mr. Smalls

Affiances most recent tour has been to support Protest the Hero, the Contortionist, and the Kindred. Luckily we were able to catch them at Pittsburgh’s own Mr. Smalls located in Millvale. Affiance is coming from straight out of Cleveland Ohio, so it was expected that there would be some wise crack jokes being rival cities and all. This was all out of good spirit though, so do not be getting the wrong idea on that matter.

With the Architects dropping out of the tour, Affiance actually moved up on the lineup to be the second band playing. Affiance didn’t get to play a very long set, but for the six songs they were able to play, they made it worthwhile! They opened up very strong and the intensity from them just kept increasing from that point on. Starting off with “Kings of Deceit” was a very nice start, followed by “Peace of Mind” and “We the Machines”. Right before their third song, a huge circle pit opened up right in the middle of the whole floor. It was the first real pit of the night and it never stopped for the rest of their set. “Righteous Kill” and “You Will Be Replaced” came up next right before a quick little intermission. As soon as the intermission was over, Dennis called of the warriors up to the front for their final song “Call of the Warrior”.

Affiance has brought up their game quite a lot within the past year or so and without a doubt, it is showing. They have a solid mix of tight, heavy, highly technical riffs with some real sick beats. Even the pitch of the vocals improved a lot since their first album. Affiance seems to be that band that you really have to keep an eye out for if they keep it up like this. Touring with Protest the Hero has really helped them broaden their horizons lately; being introduced to all of these new locations and people helps spread the word about them. Affiance is getting two thumbs up for this show without question.

Setlist:
1. Kings of Deceit
2. Peace of Mind
3. We the Machines
4. Righteous Kill
5. You Will Be Replaced
6. Call to the Warrior

Then it hit me that we should just put it out there for the fans as a thank you for all the support with the our Indiegogo campaign.  We are honored to have such devoted fans that they would help us get a new touring vehicle, the least we can do is put some new media out.”

Bullet Tooth signs The Smoking Hearts from the UK

Bullet Tooth is excited to announce the signing of The Smoking Hearts from the UK! The band will release their Bullet Tooth debut album “Victory!” this summer in North America and Japan. Playing with the likes of The Used, Asking Alexandria, Gallows, Andrew WK, and many more, The Smoking Hearts have cemented their reputation as one of the most exciting young bands in the U.K.

In fact, Jay and Moose from Bullet For My Valentine recently told the UK press, “We think everyone should check out The Smoking Hearts this year, they are good mates of ours. A brilliant band, think Motörhead on more speed beating up the Anti-Nowhere League then bumming The Ramones. Seriously, think about that. They have a new album out this year called ‘Victory!’, a definite recommendation.”

Joining the family at Bullet Tooth and having labelmates like Affiance, Throw The Fight, First Blood, Serianna, Death Ray Vision, and more, was important to the band. Calvin Roffey (Bass) commented, “I’m really excited that The Smoking Hearts have joined Bullet Tooth. It’s great that we’re able to release Victory! with a group of people that understand what we’re about as a band, and can help us reach new people that will rock out with us. Really excited to work with the people that have bought us some of of our favourite bands through the years, and together put The Smoking Hearts on the map.”

Vocalist Ben Mills also checked in, “Feels good to finally have a US home, and on such a killer label as Bullet Tooth – we had such a great time when we went to the States for SXSW and Houston we have a problem, be good to finally have a release out in the US and Japan, to give us a reason to come back.”

There is no such thing as a dull moment for The Smoking Hearts. Live shows have seen guitars smashed and drum kits sprawled across stages and it is not uncommon to find half the band playing in the crowd while singer Ben Mills is in the back of the venue, on the bar, or hanging from the rafters, all the while coercing the crowd into joining the party.

After releasing their debut album Pride of Nowhere to rave reviews from the British music press (KKKK – Kerrang!, 8/10 Rocksound, 8/10 NME), The Smoking Hearts hit the road on their first national tour to support the release, wreaking havoc throughout the U.K. and Europe.

With the release of their new album Victory! coming this summer, The Smoking Hearts are getting ready to show the world the result of those writing sessions. Once again proving that their unique blend of high-energy Rock ‘N’ Roll has the dexterity to resonate with Punk, Metal, and Hardcore crowds alike.

Recorded with Dan Weller and Justin Hill (Enter Shikari, Young Guns), and recorded over a period of four weeks in Fortress Studios, London, Victory! is an aptly titled record. Clocking in at just over the 30 minute mark, Victory! is a celebration, a testament to The Smoking Hearts’ DIY/ ‘never say die’ approach to life on stage and off. Featuring guest backing vocals from over 40 of the band’s friends, Victory! is a party of an album, the soundtrack to every good night out.

The past 18 months have seen The Smoking Hearts go from their bedrooms, to clubs throughout the U.K. and Europe, destroy down in Australia as part of Soundwave Festival and even wreak havoc in the United States. Now, with the release of their new album, The Smoking Hearts intend on celebrating their victory worldwide.

Stay tuned for new music, videos, tour dates and more from The Smoking Hearts! Catch the band LIVE this coming weekend (February 10) at The Grand Hall 2 in Cardiff, UK with Bullet For My Valentine.

“Worthy contenders to take Gallows “Kings Of British Punk crown.” – NME

“The aural equivalent of Bad Religion going ten rounds with Gallows
in a cage fight. Likely to give you a black eye just listening to it.” – Q

“This is head banging, beer-spitting, ear-bleeding Rock ‘N’ Roll at its loudest
and proudest… Boasting enough power to raise the dead” – Kerrang!

“Equally known for destroying venues as they are for their
balls-to-the-wall take on punk rock.” – Noisecreep/AOL Music

“Their incendiary songs and live energy is pure perspiration soaked entertainment
to the max. These boys deserve your attention and deserve to be huge.” – Big Cheese

Serianna hit the studio with producer Josh Schroeder for new album “Define Me”

Serianna are currently in the studio working on their new album “Define Me” with producer Josh Schroeder, who is responsible for new albums from For Today and The Color Morale. The new music is as heavy as ever and incredibly emotional as their fans have come to expect, much like their latest single “Deadweight” released on October 16, 2012. The new album will be wrapped up in February and will be released early Summer 2013.

Guitarist and songwriter Kris Meyer-Ruef checked in from the studio, “The Inheritors record was almost 3 years in the making by the time we had the pleasure of releasing it on Bullet Tooth. It seems only natural that at least 4 years since the birth of that record, Serianna is due for serious growth. Over the past year, we have gone through a major line up change and thought hard about the future of our band. It was pretty apparent to any fan of our band before that we were heavily rooted in metal core, influenced by the bands that could riff the tightest and fastest. We operated like a well oiled machine, tight and uniform. But that was just the problem: we operated like a machine. This new record has given us all the opportunity to pour our hearts into our music in a way that we felt was impossible before. Every one of us has a voice, and you will hear that through every song on this record. We went heavier, groovier, darker and more honest. I know deep down that kids are still looking for something real to fall in love with. We genuinely believe these songs are just that.”

Singer and lyricist Chris Nutting also commented, “I’m so excited for the world to hear this album because every song has a catchy hook that will get stuck in your head. That has always been a huge selling point for me with the music that I listen to, and I feel that it is such an important element to have in song writing. We wanted to write an album that would not only be fun to listen to, but also be a great experience to see live. You can bounce up and down to just about every song on the record. Each one of us played a role in writing lyrics, pulling influence from past experiences. You’ll be able to relate to these lyrics in one way or another. I couldn’t be more proud of how this album came together.”

Serianna recently released their new music video for their new single “Lose Yourself”! The song, originally by Eminem, premiered recently at AltPress.com and is available for download at iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and everywhere else music is available. The music video was filmed while the guys were on tour by director and close friend Sam Link (Sleeping With Sirens, Decoder). The video is streaming NOW on YouTube.

The debut album “Inheritors” from Serianna (Madison, WI) is available everywhere NOW. Fans can listen to the songs “Fragments” and “Guilty Spark” at their Facebook page, and watch a live music video for “Virtues” directed by Sam Link (Sleeping With Sirens, Decoder) from the recent Motel 6 “Rock Yourself To Sleep” Tour. Their songs “Fragments” and “Inheritors” are also available NOW on Rock Band for Xbox 360. The band has recently been on tour with Alesana, A Skylit Drive, Sleeping With Sirens, Affiance, Memphis May Fire, Attila, and more.

Affiance headline dates in Feb/March with special guest ‘Glamour Of The Kill’

Affiance will kick off their first touring of 2013 with a three week tour of the US with special guest Glamour Of The Kill from the UK! The band will be playing songs from their brand new album “The Campaign” and will be sharing the stage along with I See Stars and Soulfly on select dates.

The new Affiance album “The Campaign” has had a successful first few weeks! Some great sales numbers have charted them at #7 Heatseekers, #7 Top New Artist, #37 Top Hard Albums, and #53 Top Indie Albums. Singer Dennis Tvrdik commented, “We are absolutely stoked that we charted on Billboard! Our fans are insanely supportive and believe in us not only as a band but as people. Thank you to everyone who bought The Campaign. We are forever grateful!”

Dennis Tvrdik commented on the new album (Produced by Carson Slovak at Atrium Audio who has recently finished records for August Burns Red, Texas In July), “The Campaign is multiple levels above No Secret Revealed in every area. The vocals, the drums, the guitars, the recording quality, the song structure, the variety… We couldn’t be happier or more confident with a sophomore album. It almost feels like we skipped a release between the two albums! There is not a doubt in my mind that this will be a game changer for us and will open many doors to opportunities otherwise closed off from us.”

The band has recently been featured in Hails And Horns Magazine and Outburn Magazine and more, and recently appeared AS A CARTOON (yes, a cartoon) in a new interview with South Africa’s MK Ondergrond! The interview appeared on national SA television but can be seen on YouTube along with recent interviews with In Flames and The Used. AbsolutePunk Premieres “The Cynic” Music Video from AFFIANCE

AbsolutePunk has premiered the brand new music video for “The Cynic” from Affiance! This is the second music video from their new album “The Campaign”. The video was filmed in their home state of Ohio in between touring and was directed by Stephen Mlinarcik.

The new Affiance album “The Campaign” has had a successful first three weeks!

The band also just premiered their first music video from “The Campaign” for the opening track “Kings Of Deceit” and shows the band performing as well as newsworthy moments from the last few decades. The song also features Dustin Davidson from August Burns Red (courtesy of Solid State) who gives a great vocal performance.

“We were really excited to do a serious and dark video since our biggest video is us running around in our pajamas and playing a video game. This video is for the first track on the album and we wanted to start ‘The Campaign’ off by calling out the media and the powerful who orchestrate and manipulate the biggest events throughout modern history. It also shows a different side of us than our ‘Call To The Warrior’ video. You know us as easy going, good time dudes, but we are also dead serious about making positive change in the world around us.” – Dennis Tvrdik (Vocals)

Modern Day Escape Puts Pittsburgh Under the Gun

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Revolver Magazine described them as, “an irresistibly catchy fusion of Sunset Strip style hard rock and galvanic screamo. Alternative Press calls them “irresistible” and Outburn Magazine calls them “a real winner”. We here at Pittsburgh Music Magazine had the first chance to catch them live in Pittsburgh at The Ironworks while on tour with Affiance, Deception of a Ghost, and Picture Me Broken. Formed in Orlando, FL in the summer of 2006 MDE has been toughing it out on the road and impressing audiences for a long time now and are touring in support of their latest effort, ‘Under the Gun’ that sees them taking a more melodic approach to their previous work. Certainly there is an improvement in Vegas’ lyrics that focus more on introspective events of his past than the previous “party” content. We must also say that former Black Veil Brides drummer Sandra Alva is a welcome addition and one hell of a drummer.
One of our most loyal followers (and a secret source for keeping us cool) is Melisa, who turned us on to MDE. PMM is thankful she did. With a stellar performance that floored the Pittsburgh crowd, Modern Day Escape made an indelible mark on the Steel City. Due to a massive delay on their way to the ‘Burgh, MDE was unable to sit down for an interview pre-show. But, we hung out with singer James Vegas for sometime after their set and we can’t say enough about what a great guy he truly is and we had a tremendous time getting to know him. Very humble, very gracious, very cool. James took time to talk to all our supporters and signed their pants, posters, and took pictures with all happily.
As of this writing MDE is unfortunately stuck in Fredricksburg, VA with a bum transmission (and silly you thought the road was all glory) and getting ready to tear up the West of the U.S. on their way back home to L.A. Check out the video below and you can order their new CD and merch here.

Picture Me Broken’s Brooklyn Could Be The Second Coming of Benatar

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One look at Brooklyn Allman and you just know she knows how to rock with the best of them. Fronting the band Picture Me Broken is a 19 year old woman that is already a seasoned professional in the music business. Hailing from the Bay Area (Redwood City), CA Brooklyn (lead vocals) and bassist Austin Dunn have been plugging away since 2005 when they were 12. Their lineup has changed and morphed over the years, but now that they have Shawn Foist (drummer), Dante Phoenix (guitar), and Jimmy Strimpel (guitar) they seem to have found a magical make-up that will propel them to bigger things.
PMB is not just some chick fronted band though. Brooklyn may have the voice of a Pat Benatar meets Nancy Wilson, but she also has the stage presence and ability to growl out vocals with the confidence of a seasoned veteran. She is quick to let you know that PMB is a rock band and not some girl fronted gimmick band.
Having to hit the stage in Pittsburgh as soon as they arrived, due to some overwhelming traffic caused by an accident on the freeway, the band did not let it affect them in any way and showed professional poise as they won the crowds affection. Not long after their set, drummer Shawn Foist was able to introduce me to Brooklyn who took the time to give Pittsburgh Music Magazine an interview that really shows her positive attitude. Listen to the following interview link to learn more about where PMB is off to next, projects in the pipeline, Brooklyn’s past and why she loves AFI: Brooklyn of Picture Me Broken

Your New Favorite Band is Deception of a Ghost. Trust Us.

When you see hundreds of bands play every year it is very easy to become jaded. Many times bands names and faces tend to blur. But, every once in awhile you come across a gem, a diamond in the rough, maybe even The Holy Grail. Last night was one of those nights. They have a memorable name, a great look, a true to their roots sound, a bone crushing live performance, and they will be HUGE: meet your new favorite band, Deception of a Ghost. Trust us.

I was lucky enough to run into vocalist Scott Cowan in the back alley of The Ironworks here in Pittsburgh, PA. We quickly struck up a conversation about one of the hazards of the road that unfortunately struck all the acts on the bill, a freeway accident (not any of the bands involved) that tied up traffic so bad that it took an hour to go just one mile. I later talked to Scott a bit about Deception of a Ghost and asked what they sounded like. I can tell you he had me at “Poison the Well”. But I can also tell you that they are so much more than that, they are something special on the very verge of being a huge hardcore metal act that will always stay true. Sitting down with Scott and guitarist/vocalist Buddy Dameron before and after the show showed me that Deception of a Ghost has the drive, spirit, and talent to make all their dreams realities. It’s just a matter of very short time. Looking forward to a three-week break, as this was the last night of the tour with Affiance, Modern Day Escape, and Picture Me Broken, the band heads right back out on the road on the West Coast after the short hiatus.
What I came to find out in the coming hours was that all the members of the band are not only humble and gracious dudes, but are also highly intelligent, well spoken, and very savvy when it comes to the music business and staying true to their art.

Buddy (whose brother Kyle also plays in the band) is one of the friendliest guys one could ever meet. He has just a hint of a southern accent, just enough to intrigue every girl in the joint. That southern charm will certainly get he and the band far because he has such a bright personality on and off the stage. What one will find when listening to their music is that Deception of a Ghost is a very positive band. Take for instance how they describe themselves on their Facebook, “We are not a band that approaches politics or a certain political stance on things. For the most part some of us have no such stance. We’re not a part of bullhorn preaching or religion. If you get a sense of spiritual inspiration from our songs then great. If you get a feeling of personal encouragement then we are all for that. But our goal is not to persuade you to think a certain way. Our goal isn’t to try and make you believe in a God or follow a particular way of life. You do not have to claim a certain group or affiliation to fit in. There are many messages concerning politics, Christianity, atheism, vegan, etc., and that’s great they are out there. These are the people doing exactly what we aim to tell others to do. We want you to follow your dreams and your heart excluding what others close to you may think or say. Your life is just that. It’s yours. Live it for you and no one else. Our goal is simply to let you know there is never any fitting mold and if this band does anything for you we hope that it encourages you to think for yourself and voice your ideas. With timeless efforts we will tell you to step outside of following mindless and careless lifestyles and be you. And to never let anything stand in your way of doing so. That we are all individuals and we need to embrace something so valuable. With that being said we are Deception Of A Ghost. We want you to be you, be proud and kill it! You are special, be special”.

We talked at length about the travails of the road, sacrificing everything for your passion, and how one warms up their throat for such guttural magnificence (apparently Green Day’s ‘Basket Case’ does the trick. Who knew?). When listening to their latest, ‘Life Right Now’, the lyrics are very striking, something Scott takes personal responsibility for. Scott has the look of a strawberry blonde Jim Morrison in his poet era meets Thor meets Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. He is smart, witty, and wholeheartedly honest. The twists and turns that songs like ‘American Terrorist’, ‘If Hearts Could Talk’, ‘Anonymous’, and ‘Source Flow’ will take you on a journey that makes you think and think hard. That’s not to say that the music is not in your face, soul wrenching, bone crushing, head slamming, devil horns in the air, hardcore metal at it’s finest; it most certainly is (that semi colon is just for you Scott!). It is in my humble opinion ‘beautiful’…I cannot even begin to tell you how hard it is to take pictures when your mind and body screams at you to just stop working and completely get lost in the music.

Do yourself a favor. First download ‘Life Right Now’. Then go over to Facebook and like the band. Then hit them up on Twitter. Then find out when they are coming to your town and assault them..in a kind way. For they will surely assault your ears, mind, body, and soul back. And that is no deception.

MODERN DAY ESCAPE and PICTURE ME BROKEN Join Forces for North American Tour: Pittsburgh 10/20

Standby Records artists MODERN DAY ESCAPE and PICTURE ME BROKEN are teaming up for a North American tour. The first leg of the jaunt kicks off September 30th in Fullerton, CA and runs through October 20th in Pittsburgh PA. Affiance, and Deception of a Ghost will be on the bill as well. A second leg is expected to be announced shortly. A complete list of confirmed dates can be found below.

MODERN DAY ESCAPE is touring in support of their latest release Under the Gun which came out earlier this year on Standby Records. MODERN DAY ESCAPE formed in Orlando, Florida in 2006. After going through various incarnations and lineup changes, MDE solidified their lineup in 2011 with the addition of drummer Sandra Alva (Ex-Black Veil Brides) and guitarist Mark Burn. The lineup set out to record the album Under the Gun and now they intend to bring it to the masses.

PICTURE ME BROKEN emerged in 2005 under the name “Lane Four” playing classic rock covers as 12 year olds. PICTURE ME BROKEN, however, was truly born when the band landed a spot on a date of Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour with their songs “Blind and “Live Forever.” PMB defines their sound as melodic hard rock with elements of screamo and post-hardcore. PICTURE ME BROKEN is all about live energy, catchy choruses, and intense breakdowns; ready to take over the music scene with their all energy, genre crossing approach to modern music. PICTURE ME BROKEN will be releasing a new EP this winter on Standby Records.
