LoveSick Radio Release New Blues Tinged Single, “Bloodshot Eyes”

Alternative Rock Band LoveSick Radio has released their newest single, “Bloodshot Eyes,” which was voted Track of the Week on Classic Rock Magazine.
“Good times now with part Ohio, part Vegas-based rockers LoveSick Radio. The opening riff sounds a little like a more rootsy You Shook Me All Night Long, but in truth this is a more layered affair – in a good way. Punchy blue-collar rock’n’roll, rough-edged touches of punk, pop rock, bluesy guitar soloing… All audibly drawing from the classic rock likes of The Stones, Aerosmith and co.” – Classic Rock Magazine

“’Bloodshot Eyes’ is about overcoming and how we cope with life’s struggles. Some people may have a drink with friends, some may like to get high, and some just need a good scream. No matter what is the fix or how you get there, “it will be ok if we end the day with bloodshot eyes”. – LoveSick Radio

WORLDWIDE PANIC Release Official Music Video for “Party”

 Party Cover Art

LA Based Heavy Metal Band WORLDWIDE PANIC has released the Diego Gonzales directed official music video for their newest single, “Party.”

“In my perspective it was a challenge to us as a band as well as in respect to finding a director. There are no shortages of videographers and directors in Los Angeles County. I know a lot of great ones that are total visionaries and could have easily shot this video and it would have just been another day at the office for them and I didn’t want that. I wanted to find someone who had the same passion for the song that we had. The moment I spoke to and met with Diego and showed him the song and saw his reaction we immediately started storyboarding with each other. It was not an easy task to complete in any regard. We wanted something extremely specific that was based on true life events that occurred in my life. Finding the actors, booking a sound stage, finding a crew, getting props, and be lengthy processes to deal with. A week to the date, Worldwide Panic, myself and Diego spent four hours at a professional soundstage filming the band performance and that weekend we had casted the actors who take this dream and turn it into a nightmare. The scenes portrayed in this video most actually happened to me. It is still difficult for me to watch this and not feel empathy for the actor on screen. I could not believe that those things happened to me in real life and now I am where I am living a happy fulfilling life. I think the rawness captured in this video encapsulates many life lessons I had to learn the hard way. Even with the dark subject matter of the song and video I like that it is done in a fun way and makes something that was very painful entertaining and fun and teaches people to avoid the many pitfalls that exist in society. It is with great pleasure I present, Party!” – Lane Steele (Bass / Vocals)

“On this track we had the pleasure of having my good friend Aaron Nordstrom help produce the vocals. He had this to say, “I’ve known Lane Steele for many years since we were in school together. I’ve seen him evolve and work very hard for awhile and find his voice as a musician. I had the pleasure of working on the song “Party” and enjoyed it very much. It was a smooth workflow and resulted in a great song. Take a listen and be sure to catch them on the road with Flaw this fall.”
– Aaron Nordstrom (Gemini Syndrome)

Hanging with DOYLE WOLFGANG VON FRANKENSTEIN…a misunderstood MISFIT

The question I most often hear from people when they learn that I have had the experience of meeting and interviewing Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein multiple times is typical, “Is he really that huge?”  The answer is more complicated than yes or no.  “Is he a mass of super tight muscle?”  You bet and he works hard at maintaining that physique at 53 years young and maintaining a vegan diet.  “Is he really that tall?” He is tall, some list him at 6’3″, but honestly it is hard to tell with those massive boots.  “Is he intimidating?”  Sure, he is a big dude with crazy makeup, but if you do your research and avoid the same old questions, he is downright awesome and very approachable.  In fact, when asked what I take away most from hanging with Doyle, it’s his humility.

Doyle will be the first to tell you that he ‘only plays 3 chords’ or that he can only play the ‘songs that he created (or is associated with)’, but if you study his work well enough, that is not exactly true.  There is a reason that his guitar playing with the legendary Misfits is one of the most widely influential from the punk era, just ask Metallica.  Doyle tends to downplay his abilities when it comes to writing songs, creating riffs, surviving in a cutthroat business, and in essence re-inventing his career to make it his own.  Since he partnered up with Cancerslug vocalist Alex Wolfman Story, he has produced some extremely hard-hitting thrash punk that borders more on the extreme metal side than the heyday of the devil lock.

Now with two full albums in the can under the Doyle moniker, the guitarist is taking the heavy music world by storm, one town at a time if he has too.  The band’s set is no longer beefed up with Misfits tunes, but Doyle’s own.  Opening with the brutal “Abominator”, Doyle, Alex, and company took no prisoners as they pounded the audience with songs like “Beast Like Me” and “Run For Your Life” and “Valley Of Shadows” in a relatively short, but killer set.  Alex kept with the running sarcastic joke of, “this is sort of a love song that you can dance to if you want’ as an intro to every song.  It did not take long for the crowd to become an entangled sweaty mess of humanity and was an amazing, if not overpowering, opening for Ghoul and GWAR.  The newest album, Doyle 2: As We Die picks up where Abominator left off, most of the guitar written and recorded actually at the same time as Abominator.  But, Doyle is a perfectionist, and definitely took his time until he was satisfied with the mix.  It paid off and is once again an awe-inspiring piece of savage songwriting.  His partnership with Alex and his giving over of lyrical/story content to him shows how much trust he has in him.  When asked how they hooked up, he talked about ads he placed on the East and West Coast and that Alex’s work, “was the only stuff where I listened to every song, the other stuff went immediately into the garbage”.  The pair play perfectly off of one another, Story having just enough Danzig in him to fit, but being a man completely of his own as well to create something entirely unique.

Doyle is a lot deeper than people give him credit for and personally, I think it has a lot to do with his humility and often times standoffish personality he uses as a deflection of attention, he certainly is more at home on stage than in front of a camera.  On his tour bus after his set while opening for GWAR in Pittsburgh, we started talking about the recent “concert shootings”, namely Las Vegas and the Eagles of Death Metal show in Paris, he is downright introspective, “Actually, I’m surprised it did not happen earlier, I mean look at what happened to Dimebag.  It’s taken a long time and tragedy to finally get metal detectors (wands as a normal procedure).  Glenn (Danzig) will not and has not performed anywhere in a long time without it for safety reasons.”  He also added, “we are vulnerable on stage as well and people don’t know if it’s part of the show or real when it happens”.

Our conversation took a darker turn when we discussed all the musical legends lost in the past year, “David Bowie probably personally affected me the most…Chris Cornell really impacted my girlfriend (Alyssa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy).  Delving deeper into the subject matter, Doyle brought up Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and how serious the problem of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation can be and how it needs to be discussed openly.  But, we did not stay mired in the very heady and weighty topics the whole time.  We also got into an unexpected influence, that of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, “if you are not a musician you don’t notice the underlayer that is going on there.  His use of feedback specifically.”  Not expecting a primarily blues-based player like Perry to be on his list of major influences, it just makes one think that there is a lot more to the man than the surface value, you just have to dig a little.

Being a private man, one does not want to go too deep into Doyle’s private life, but he will talk about Alyssa a bit, with enthusiasm.  Unfortunately, their touring schedules do not jive often.  In fact, before each of them headed back from just completed tours and headed off to new tours, they only had about three days together (listen to Alyssa and Michael of Arch Enemy guest on “Kiss Me As We Die”).  Their vegan lifestyle has been much chronicled and discussed as well as their respect and love for animals.  Doyle does not have any pets of his own but Alyssa has a ‘big orange cat’ that he thinks is cool and his mother has ‘like 20 cats’.  When he can he would like to get a Chinese Crested dog, “the ones without any hair except on the top of their head.” It’s not hard to search his Instagram and find Doyle with a dog in his massive arms with that big grin of his.  One is not nearly as intimidating with a chihuahua in their lap, and Doyle could give two shits if it is a dichotomy to his “image”.  But the page is also filled with fan art he receives playing off of that beloved image.  He gets a ton of stuff given to him and finds it hard to store it all.  Thus when we got into his love of “horror-themed art” (i.e. Basil Gogos) he spoke enthusiastically about his love for it, but his inability to collect anything, “I just don’t have anywhere to put it!”

And that image is not easy to maintain.  It can take as much as three hours for him to put his makeup on and style his hair, a whole hour for just the white face base.  Add to that the weight training,  (he actually has a sponsorship with an adjustable dumbell company that ships them to Europe just for his use), his dieting, interviews, soundchecks, etc…it is a pretty hectic schedule.  He definitely has knowledge when it comes to training and even follows The Pittsburgh Steelers own James “DEEBO!” Harrison on Instagram, to see what outlandish weights he throws around like toys.  It is hard for me to believe that no fitness magazine has not tapped Doyle for an in-depth article about what he personally does to stay in shape (and if any mags want to commission me for this I’m pretty sure Doyle and I could talk training all day!).  By the way, don’t bother asking him about his upcoming role in the “Death Warrant 3” movie, though he is fairly certain they will be respectful to his look, he really does not know much about it.  Doyle has been in some movie productions before and he is always amazed, “how some actors just become different people when the camera comes on, it’s incredible.”

Since The Misfit stuff is so often talked about, out of respect we did not get into it too much, but let’s just say the sold-out reunion shows coming up in LA and Vegas are going to be beyond special and he is pretty pumped. “They just call me and tell me where to show up,” just another example of Doyle’s deflection away from himself and his legend, making the man that much more endearing.

TONIGHT! The Fame Riot & Radkey @Brillobox

fame-riot-photoTHE FAME RIOT

THE FAME RIOT is fashionable avant-garde, gender-fluid duo consisting of two fabulous, over the top brothers in their early 20s who live and breathe music and fashion. Raised by minister parents, the brothers were introduced to music from a spiritual perspective and being drawn to secular music, which they would listen to in secret, the two made the music that they longed to hear. Influenced by four decades of rock, pop, electronica, disco, and everything in-between, Liz Scarlett and Shazam “Tea Time” Watkins are what you would expect if you bottled up the fun and energy of raging summer parties, and threw in some flippant Hollywood glam.

The group has performed on KEXP, played Bumbershoot, and shared the stage with Chromeo, Grouplove, Mickey Avalon, DJ Shadow, and more. The duo recently performed a stripped down version of their single “Heart Stray” on Revolt TV’s program “Sounds By The Sound,” and were featured on RedBull.com where legendary Seattle DJ Marco Collins is quoted saying The Fame Riot has, “one of the catchiest pop records I’ve heard in years.” As best described by Galo Magazine, “There’s no denying that if the ’80s and ’90s had a love child, it would be this posse of so-called ‘ freeks ,’ who sport women’s clothing just as well, if not better, than the legendary frontman of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler.”

Composed of three biological brothers barely in their 20’s– Dee Radke (23) on guitar/vocals, Isiaiah Radke III (21) on radkey3bass/vocals, and Solomon Radke (19) on drums– Radkey is a high energy, punk rock phenomenon. Growing up on their music-obsessed dad (and now road manager)’s vinyl collection, the brothers cut their teeth as pre-teens, playing their first show opening for Fishbone in 2011… and haven’t looked back since. Radkey has played with Rise AgainstThe BronxRed FangTouche AmoreAgainst Me!, and more, and have performed at music festivals all over the world including Coachella (USA), Reading and Leads Festival (UK), Download Festival (UK), Riot Fest (USA),

AfroPunk Festival (USA)

and Punkspring Festival (Japan).

The Treatment’s This Might Hurt Proves You Will Enjoy A Little Pain

When your head starts bobbing up and down and your arms are air drumming from the very first notes, that is always a good sign. That is how it was when PMM played The Treatment‘s opening track “The Departed” from their debut This Might Hurt. For fans of heavy rock with all the beautiful basics harkening back to when bands let the music do the talking; this band is for you. The Treatment is tight, fast, and unforgiving in their pursuit to “simply rock”.
The Treatment is a five-year old outfit out of Cambridge UK. Sighting early influences of UFO, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses Aerosmith, and Thin Lizzy they certainly stay true to their roots. The Treatment are “unashamedly inspired by an era when rock bands looked like rock bands and were generally intent on causing a stir (both onstage and off); an era when the lifestyle was important, when music was everything and vinyl was king”.
This Might Hurt was produced by Laurie Mansworth (guitarist/songwriter with UK melodic rockers Airrace) and mixed by Tony Newton at Iron Maiden guitarist Steve Harris’ Barnyard Studios, and the their fine tuned choices show with the material that has that perfect mix of raw with some polish added in for good measure. Check out highlight tunes, The Departed, Shake The Mountain, Drink, F**k, Fight, Road Rocket, and Just Tell Me Why (acoustic). This Might Hurt is a well crafted record with all the trappings of good time arena rock that has a place in all of our hearts and it showcases an extremely talented group of musicians. Fortunately for the band and audiences, apparently Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx got a good taste of what The Treatment had to offer when he saw the video for the sure to be concert anthem ‘Drink, F**k, Fight’ single. Thus The Treatment has been on the road opening for Motley Crue and Kiss keeping up with the tradition of Nikki being on the forefront of up and coming bands and bringing them out on tour.

Since 2008, when 15-‐year-‐old schoolboy drummer Dhani Mansworth (son of Laurie) decided to put a band together, inspired by the all-‐time greats of the genre (AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and working under the wing of his father and manager Laurie (More, Airrace, Roadstar), the search was on to find fellow rock-‐headed, leather-‐ wrapped musicians old an’ wise beyond their years. Unable to source players of the required standard, however, this search was soon extended to more far-‐flung parts of the country, and bit by bit the line-‐up began to take shape. First to join was lead guitarist Ben Brookland, then bassist Rick Newman (aka Swoggle), then rhythm guitarist Tagore Grey… but it was the crucial position of front-‐man that proved the hardest to fill, and it was a full six months before vocalist Matt Jones was (finally) discovered in Norwich (UK).

The Treatment now formed they focused on intense practise and writing sessions, but rather than go the conventional route of booking rehearsal studios then travelling back and forth, the five decided that to get the very best out of themselves they would need to focus 100 per cent on the mighty task at hand; with school days now behind them (but only just), they opted to move into the Mansworth family home in Cambridge, where they could eat, sleep and breathe the music they loved around the clock, without distractions, without compromise.
12 months later, The Treatment – a fully-‐rounded, finely-‐honed rock‘n’roll machine with a battery of great songs at its fingertips – emerged blinking into the sunlight, guitars at the ready, sights set on the stars.
With a run of European special guest appearances now complete (playing with the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, Steel Panther, Motorhead and more) and European festival performances being ticked off at a rapid rate (Sonisphere, High Voltage, Hard Rock Hell, Download, etc.), the band are now ready to take things to the next level, setting their sights on the American market.
Lucky for Pittsburgh on September 2 (and all the dates with Crue and Kiss) we will be able to witness them first hand as they give us the treatment it might hurt but we’re pretty sure you’ll like it.
They also have scheduled some dates for club shows on their days off:
August 20th- Hawthorne Theater- Portland, Oregon
August 21st- The A Club- Spokane, Washington (supporting Bobaflex)
August 23rd – Base Camp- Denver, Colorado
September 6th- The Rave Bar- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
September 9th- The Frequency- Madison, Wisconsin
September 17th-The Met Café- Providence, Rhode Island

DANKO JONES: New Album ‘Rock and Roll is Black and Blue’ to be Released in North America on October 9, 2012

DANKO JONES is extremely excited to announce that they will be releasing their new album Rock And Roll is Black and Blue on October 9, 2012.

Over the course of six full-length albums, DANKO JONES has forged a singular sound that draws equally from the blues, ‘60s garage, ‘70s hard rock, ‘80s hardcore, punky power-pop, Scandinavian metal, and classic stand-up comedy records without ever being fully defined by any of those sources. But while built from the same rudiments, each DANKO JONES record possesses a distinct sonic identity. Born A Lion (2002) brought the boogie and sledgehammer soul; We Sweat Blood (2003) was, by contrast, more anxious and aggro. Sleep Is the Enemy (2006) wielded the sharpest hooks. Never Too Loud (2008) was as slick as Below the Belt (2010) was stripped-down. But, compared to all that’s come before, Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is, hands down, the most emotional and, as a result, the most epic DANKO JONES album to date.

Now, don’t be scared off by those E-words – there’s not a children’s choir, orchestra or piano ballad to be found within a 500-mile radius of this album. But what you hear on Rock and Roll is Black and Blue is the DANKO JONES ideal blown up to skyscraping proportions, resulting in 13 tracks that are bolder, brasher, and brawnier than anything they’ve attempted before.

The album is produced in full by their longtime partner in crime Matt DeMatteo and was mixed by Mike Fraser, known for his work with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Franz Ferdinand and Elvis Costello to name a few. It is also the first album recorded with “new” drummer Atom Willard – the sixth person in DANKO JONES history to hold the “drummer” title, but the first to stand on equal creative footing with Danko and his longtime foil, bassist John “JC” Calabrese. The man’s résumé speaks for itself: Not only was Willard the driving percussive force behind Danko’s all-time favorite San Diegan garage-punk armada Rocket From the Crypt, he’s also been keeping time for the multi-platinum likes of the Offspring, Social Distortion and Angels & Airwaves, so he knows how to drum his way around a massive tune.

The first single – “Just A Beautiful Day” – will be serviced to radio all over the world shortly.
The new album follows the June release of Bring On The Mountain – a two disc DVD featuring a 90 minute documentary, a short film, exclusive live clips from around the world and all the music videos they have ever done.

A lengthy European tour scheduled for October / November was announced during spring and with ticket sales already looking great we expect most shows to be sold out well before the doors open. Tour dates in Canada, US and Australia will be announced soon with more European touring and a busy festival summer in 2013 also on the horizon. European tour dates can be found here:
