Early Praise for “Date From Hell:

“This film was a really nice surprise and I don’t think the title does it justice – not that I can think of a better one – because for some reason I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. What’s nice is that I really believe the main couple throughout every point of the film and, when we see the scene of them arguing in the bar, you think “oh man, here we go again”, because you probably know ‘that couple’ from your own local.” –

“utterly compelling and a great tribute to those 80’s movies us horror fans hold so dear and I would certainly pay good money to see more. What seems like a labour of love for Ven Scott, will hopefully help to propel him into the major leagues so that in the near future we can all enjoy Date From Hell on the big screen” – Chris Andrews – Mass Movement

“Date From Hell tosses in quite a bit of gore then a little more in just the right ways. If this debut short from Ven Scott is any indicator of the guy’s talent behind the camera, here’s hoping this isn’t the last we hear from him.” – Richard Propes – The Independent Critic

“For a first time short, this film was very well shot, excellent cinematography and attention to detail shots that perfectly give off that sweaty Texas metal vibe – from the cracking of beers to the lovely tattoos on the bartender, to the honky Toni accents of Bobbie and Susie.” – Robin Goodfellow – Drunk In A Graveyard

“If you see Date From Hell playing at a festival near you, make sure you get your arcane ass in a seat toot-fuckin’-sweet…a better short you’d be hard pressed to find in our beloved horror biz!” – Horror Fuel

Exclusive BEAUTY IN THE SUFFERING Performance Featured In New Horror Film, CLOWN MOTEL

IMG 0635

BEAUTY IN THE SUFFERING producer and bassist for legacy fetish/industrial act Lords Of Acid DieTrich Thrall has taken his horror approach in his bands music videos to the next step, co-producing a key scene in the newly released Clown Motel: Spirits Arise.

Released on June 4, 2019 in the United States and set for a drop date of July 29, 2019 in the UK, “Clown Motel: Spirit’s Arise” features Ari Lehman (the original Jason Voorhees from 1980 Friday the 13th), Tony Moran (the original Michael Myers from the 1978 Halloween), Martin Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Chalet Brannan (Cyborg X, Crepitus).

Clown Motel follows a group of ghost hunters, coming from an old ghost town and a bachelorette party, returning home from Las Vegas. When the groups meet up, by mistake, they’re left to discover if the motel is really abandoned and haunted by the souls, of the clowns, that once lived there.

An exclusive performance by Beauty In The Suffering of the song “REVEILLE'”which features producer DieTrich Thrall and drummer Galen Wailing, both of the legacy industrial/fetish act Lords Of Acid, takes place during a key scene.

Writer and director Joseph Kelly weighed in on the collaboration, “DieTrich and his band brought our Las Vegas party scene from Clown Motel to life with a blistering rendition of their song ‘REVEILLE!’ Awesome energy!”

Executive Producer and Film Editor David W Bailey also chimed in, “DieTrich brought fire to the set of Clown Motel with his scorching song ‘Reveille’ that left the cast and crew speechless!”

Executive producer and co-star Don Schell, who plays the part of Chris in the film commented, “Beauty In The Suffering have already amassed a solid fan base with their initial zombie/horror themed music videos produced by mastermind DieTrich Thrall so it only made sense to have him bring his twisted talents to ‘Clown Motel!’”

Guest drummer Galen Wailing: “Having previously worked with Dietrich Thrall in Lords of Acid, I got the pleasure of working with him on his solo project Beauty in the Suffering. Always professional and a great guy to work with!”

Artist & producer DieTrich (pronounced “Dee – Trick”) Thrall is known for his extensive international touring with industrial legacy band LORDS OF ACID and MISFITS guitar legend DOYLE WOLFGANG VON FRANKENSTEIN’s solo project DOYLE. He was also a primary creative contributor to underground Marazene, who scored a hit – and the approval of rock legends NIKKI SIXX and TOMMY LEE – with their extreme cover of Motley Crüe’s “Live Wire.”

“For their first outing as a new band, Thrall and team decided to adopt a horror motif, beginning with the track ‘The Crazies (The Zombie Song),’ which is no doubt influenced by the horror classics of George A. Romero – not just the film of the same name, but his beloved Dead saga as well.
‘The Crazies’ is the first of three zombie-themed songs to be incorporated into a long-form music video conceived by Thrall (which is currently in production), and you’ll be hearing more about [the] project soon.” – Gregory Burkart (

“Beauty In The Suffering is an evolving concept I came up with years ago that best described a sense of optimism during some bright spots of an otherwise massive struggle against overwhelming odds.

Music I have been writing and expressing over the last several years has been uniquely intimate in reflecting those struggles and I am very excited about putting out some fresh ideas that represent the here and now.

Beauty In The Suffering deals with universal themes of love and loss, defeat and resolve, and struggle and triumph.

Everybody has moments where the road looks impossible to pass. But somehow, little by little we manage through our own inner strength and the purposeful placement of fate, chance, and karma. We emerge wiser and with a deeper understanding of ourselves and of our place in the world and – The Beauty We Glean From The Suffering We Have Endured Can NEVER Be Denied..

This is a journey I accepted long ago. I wear the scars of my personal triumph over my struggles with pride and I stand ready to face new challenges.

And, like the phoenix rising from the ashes, this is a new beginning. I thank you all for standing by my side during some very difficult years of active-inactivity. The future is wide open and full of nothing but payoff.” ~DieTrich Thrall 11.18.12

“[Beauty In The Suffering’s debut zombie themed music video ‘The Crazies’ is] ..A visual mini-epic.. Chilling!” – Gregory Burkart (

“Beauty in the Suffering’s debut song ‘The Crazies (The Zombie Song)’ is a thunderous assault amidst apocalyptic party lyrics!” – COMA Music Magazine

“[Beauty In The Suffering is a] charging electro soaked metal project that evokes the likes of Deathstars and Motionless In White with its thick and filthy tone.” –

“Brilliant!” – Melissa Themeli (Our City Radio – Minneapolis)

Hyper Violent “Muck” Set to be First Horror Film Available in 4K

The world’s biggest television manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, and Sony, used last week’s CES 2014 as a launching pad to declare that they will lead us into the 4K / Ultra HD revolution in 2014, content or not. Those who attended CES 2014 in Las Vegas were amazed by the visual experience of the latest in HD. The biggest Hollywood studios and TV programmers, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Amazon, Netflix, and others, are already rushing to create content in 2014 for the breathtaking picture of new 4K / Ultra HD TVs. Ahead of the curve, however, is Steve Wolsh’s independent horror film, Muck; out in front, Muck will become one of the first titles anywhere to offer consumers the premium 4K / Ultra HD experience.
For Steve Wolsh, being independent with a limited budget would not stop him from literally seeing the bigger picture, and he knew that 4K / Ultra HD was the future. Muck is full of stunning slow motion fire, glass explosions, water combat, and rapid-paced fierce horror stunts that will jump off the screen in 2014 in both HD and Ultra HD. Muck pushes the limits of what can be done in both independent filmmaking and within the horror genre.  Steve Wolsh aims to get Muck in as many languages and territories as possible, so he partnered up with Blacklist Productions in Hollywood to have the ability to screen Muck in 4K / Ultra HD for interested parties.
Steve Wolsh and company did not waste any time to begin pre-production for Muck Offed (the Muck prequel). With the release ofMuck later this year, casting for Muck Offed is already underway. For the prequel, Steve Wolsh has promised to push his practical effects and the phrase “No CGI” into even more dangerous places. The entire original Muck cast, including Horror Legend Kane Hodder and 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year Jaclyn Swedberg, as well as Australian hunk Lachlan Buchanan (NewcastlePretty Little Liars, and NCIS: Red), YouTube sensation Lauren Francesca, Indian beauty Puja Mohindra, Bryce Draper, Grant Alan Ouzts, Stephanie Danielson, and Laura Jacobs (Almost Human), will all be alive and well in the prequel along with the 13 new characters being added to the Muck universe. It could get messy…

INSIDE METAL: The Rise Of L.A. Thrash Metal. Throughout history, the San Francisco Bay Area has long been voiced as the epicenter for Thrash Metal whereas Los Angeles is invariably considered the “Hair-Metal” capitol. True, San Francisco has birthed many exceptional thrash bands since the early ’80s but truth be told, L.A. is not only the birthplace of three out of the “Big 4” thrash bands but also the breeding grounds for many of the more unconventional speed/thrash/punk-metal bands. Whether it’d be the legendary icons METALLICA, SLAYER, and MEGADETH, or punk/metal renegades SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, or underground thrash legends DARK ANGEL and HIRAX, like it or not, they all originated from this pretentious megalopolis hellhole we proudly hail Los Angeles! So why is it that L.A. thrash metal has taken a backseat to the NorCal Bay Area? This question will be one of many issues that will be revealed in this compelling 2 Volume 90-minute documentary presented by METAL ROCK ENTERTAINMENT. This third installment of the compelling, groundbreaking trilogy INSIDE METAL: The Rise of LA Thrash Metal explores the ’80s metal counterculture with first-hand insight from the bands and artists that ruled the LA Metal underground as well as scenesters, journalists and insiders from a time in history when the underground thrash scene was thriving! Featuring exclusive, never-before seen interviews with Lars Ulrich (Metallica), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Rocky George (Suicidal Tendencies), Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament, Fear Factory, Dethklok), Brian Slagel (CEO Metal Blade Records), John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax) and Joey Vera (Armored Saint), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Chris Poland (ex-Megadeth), Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth), Juan Garcia (Agent Steel, Abattoir, Evil Dead), Katon De Pena (Hirax), Eric Meyer (Dark Angel), Greg Durschlag (The Weasels), Felice LoCoco and Kurt Markham (Overkill L.A.) Malcolm Dome (Classic Rock Magazine, UK), Kevin Estrada (Photographer), Spacey T. (Gangland), Bill Metoyer (Producer), Diego Negrete (MX Machine), Scott Peterson (Cryptic Slaughter), Mike Inez (Alice In Chains), William Howell (DJ Will, KNAC.COM), John Gallagher (Raven), Brian Tatler (Diamond Head) and many others. (click HERE for campaign details)

Hey All –
We recently stumbled upon a very cool children’s filmmaking collective, Peanut Blooder & Jelly Studios, when one of their members, Lucia Ryan, starred in the Walking Shapes video, “Horse” (that’s Lucia playing the lead).

We were so blown away by what these kids are doing, we couldn’t resist giving their Kickstarter campaign a little plug.

Peanut Blooder & Jelly Studios is the brainchild of five neighbors: Lucia, Louise, Olive, Toby and Aiden. Ranging between the ages of 8-12, they love being together and love of making scary movies — the scarier and bloodier the better. School lets out at 2:30, and production on their current horror film usually begins around 4pm, and has been known to stretch until Sunday at dark. Makeup techniques, script / plot points, costuming, sound considerations, location and continuity are all negotiated between the five members of the PB&J Studios.

PB&J Studios’ next project is “Ring Around the Rosie”, short feature horror film. The script is complete, they have started casting real actors, and they are ready to move into production, eager to bring this frighteningly bloody story to their fans! Funds from their Kickstarter campaign will be used to purchase better equipment, to and improve production quality to get to the next level of professional filmmaking.

LAMB OF GOD Partners with Specticast for Worldwide Distribution of “As The Palaces Burn” Feature Film

LAMB OF GOD is pleased to announce that they have entered in to a worldwide distribution deal with Specticast (Led Zeppelin Celebration Day, Paul McCartney Rock Show) for their Don Argott (Last Days Here, Art of the Steal, School of Rock) directed feature film “As The Palaces Burn”. Filming for the feature began in 2012 and concluded in March of 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn”, not to be confused with the making-of documentary packaged with the recent re-release of the 2003 LAMB OF GOD album of the same name, was conceived to be a documentary focused on the power of music and its impact on cultures around the world and its ability to bring together people of all nationalities regardless of religious or political differences. After a worldwide casting call, filming took place in Colombia, Venezuela, Israel, India, and the United States. As filming reached its conclusion, the documentary was forced to take a major turn when the band’s lead singer, Randy Blythe, was arrested in the Czech Republic and charged with the murder of a fan in June 2012. Granted unique access to Blythe’s continuing saga, Argott’s filming covered Blythe’s 38 day imprisonment in Prague, his release and the band’s return to live performances, and finally Blythe’s trial for murder in Prague in February 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn” will debut worldwide on February 27th. Following the film, a 30 minute Q&A with the entire band and director Don Argott will be shown. The Q&A was conducted by VH1 Classics Eddie Trunk and filmed at the final show of the band’s North American tour in support of their most recent release, Resolution.

Nicks To Appear at DVD Signing at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Hollywood onDecember 4th 7:00 pm.

November 18, 2013 – Los Angeles, California – Rock legend Stevie Nicks, fresh off of Fleetwood Mac’s sold out worldwide tour, will be releasing her intimate DVD  documentary  “In Your Dreams,” it was confirmed today by Warner Bros. Records.

“In Your Dreams” is a portrait of the illusive Nicks as she and Stewart embark on a musical journey to write and record the critically acclaimed “In Your Dreams” CD , Nicks’ first studio album in over a decade.  Nicks called this “the greatest year of my life” and felt compelled to share the joyful experience with her fans.

The DVD is currently available for pre orders. The limited edition deluxe dvd bundle that included a DVD personally signed by Nicks, a handwritten individually numbered limited edition of a letter by Nicks and never-before seen photos has already sold out its 1000copy limit.

Co-produced and co-directed by musical wizard Dave Stewart, “In Your Dreams” was shown at The Hamptons International Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, SXSW and Toronto Film Festival, and had a theatrical release in 53 cities.

The inner life of the legendary Nicks has by her design long been kept at a distance from the public.. We learn in “Dreams” that her world features costume parties, elaborate dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations and revealing songwriting and recording sessions all of which are captured on film.  Fans will also get to see cameo appearances by Edgar Alllan Poe, Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon, a massive white stallion in the backyard, owls and naturally a few vampires who appear in several “home movie” style music videos.

Along with tracking the Nicks/Stewart creative partnership, “In Your Dreams” has plenty of other cinematic payoffs including rare never before seen personal scrapbook stills from Nicks’ childhood and a wealth of candid backstage and performance shots taken over the last 35 years.

The documentary was produced by Dave Stewart’s Weapons of Mass Entertainment.

Stevie is scheduled to appear at a DVD signing in Los Angeles on December 4th at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Hollywood at 7:00 pm.

M83-You And The Night-New Soundtrack

M83 is excited to announce their latest collaboration: the soundtrack to Yann Gonzalez’s first feature film, You And The Night. Mute will be releasing You And The Night via digital download on November 19th, 2013. Anthony warns that You And The Night is not a typical M83 release. “People who only like “Midnight City” are going to be disappointed. Mellow and romantic, this soundtrack pays tribute to French soundtracks from the 70’s and is much more intimate than Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and the Oblivion Soundtrack. This score is really for lovers and ghosts.”

Growing up together in Antibes, France, Anthony and his brother Yann were both inspired from an early age by European filmmakers such as Luis Bunuel, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Similar themes underline each of their individual artistic expressions, via both film and music: an appreciation for the majesty of hope and an overall embrace of humanity. Describing his career up until now, Yann explains “if all of my films are put together they form a kind of ensemble, a sort of community. And that is precisely what You And The Night is about: an emotional community, the utopia of a community.” For the Gonzalez brothers community and family allowed them to grow into their roles as filmmakers and musicians, so when the time came to chose someone to create a soundtrack for his first feature film it was obvious that Yann would look to work with his brother. “Music is an organic part of the films I make.” “M83’s compositions bring together the most diverse kinds of music that can only communicate in the end through the logic of emotion and the faith you place in them.”

For Anthony You And The Night is a film about love, loss, new love and melancholia. He comments “The movie is very emotional and it’s the movie of my brother, so it was a very important project for me. Yet as we share the same values, have the same artistic influences, it was also a very natural and uncomplicated process.”

In creating this sultry and luminous soundtrack Anthony reunited with several of his previous collaborators. Joe Trapanese (Oblivion, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming) returned to assist with the orchestral arrangements, whilst long-term M83 collaborator Morgan Kibby(M83, White Sea) and Susanne Sundfør (Oblivion) performed vocals on several tracks on the album. Evolving from their time working together on Oblivion’s title track, it seemed a natural step for Sundfør to become involved in the recording sessions for You And The Night. Susanne comments “It was very inspiring to see how Anthony works and how his perfectionism and high ambitions brought out the best in everyone around him. It’s something I’m grateful to have been a part of, and I think the soundtrack ended up sounding beautiful and mystical, just like the movie.”

Once again You And The Night highlights the musical richness of M83 and adds an impressive chapter to the growing repertoire of work that Gonzalez has produced since his initial, self-titled release. M83, in 2001, right through to the 2011 Grammy Nominated release Nominated Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, which included the platinum selling hit-single “Midnight City”.

Though of course, as Anthony warns, don’t expect to hear anything like that on this record!

“This score is really for lovers and ghosts.”

-Anthony Gonzalez

Revenge of the Mekons A Documentary film by Joe Angio

Political provocateurs. Social agitators. Punk’s reigning contrarians. The Mekons have been called all this and more. REVENGE OF THE MEKONS chronicles the unlikely career of the critically adored, cultishly revered band/art collective from Leeds, England. Emerging from the first blast of 1977 U.K. punk rock, the Mekons were notorious, as critic GREIL MARCUS notes, for being “the band that took punk ideology most seriously.” Charting the group’s progression from socialist art students with no musical skills through its reinvention as rabble-rousing progeny of Hank Williams, the film reveals how, four decades into a still-evolving career, the Mekons continue to make original, genre-defying music while staying true to the punk ethos.

The eagerly anticipated Revenge of the Mekons will be making it’s WORLD PREMIER at this year’s DOC NYC, New York’s Premiere Documentary Film Festival.

Revenge of the Mekons is Director/Producer Joe Angio’s follow up to his award-winning documentary film How to Eat Your Watermelon in White Company (and Enjoy It)(2005), which chronicles the illustrious career of film maker/director Melvin Van Peebles. How to Eat Your Watermelon…  screened at numerous international film festivals, including Tribeca, Los Angeles, Chicago, Melbourne and the Biografilm (Bologna) Festival, where it received both the Jury and Audience awards for best film. The film made its theatrical debut at Film Forum, NYC, and its television premiere on IFC. The DVD is distributed by Image Entertainment.

Keeping a collective together for 37 years is difficult under any circumstances, more so when the endeavor won’t even pay the bills and its eight members are scattered across six cities on three continents. Toss in a history of miserable fortune with record labels—fueled in part by the band’s own mistrust and rejection of the music industry—and almost comical bad luck, it’s a wonder that the Mekons have persevered. How they’ve managed to do so—and why they bother to carry on—are the questions that drive the film.

Near the film’s outset, on the first stop of a recent U.K. tour, the band learns—on stage—from an audience member that the following night’s gig has been canceled. They respond with the kind of improvisatory, self-deprecating wit that Mekons fans have come to regard as much as the music itself. “Perhaps it’s sold out,” yells a voice from the crowd. “Sold outis a term that never comes into our lives,” replies singer SALLY TIMMS, the double entendre cutting sharp as a blade. The band’s response to setbacks such as this reveals the collaborative process that underscores the film’s primary themes of community and collectivism, notions borne from the Mekons’ punk-rock inception as politically engaged socialists.

Rewinding to Leeds, 1977, the film establishes its twin structural tracks: interspersing original vérité footage shot on three continents between 2008 and 2012 with interviews and archival footage that explore the band’s history within the socio-political milieu of Thatcher-era England. We learn how neo-Nazi mobs clashed with left-wing groups from the University of Leeds, home to future members of the Mekons and their friends and art-department classmates from Gang of Four. Inspired by the DIY attitude of the Sex Pistols—and undaunted by their own conspicuous lack of musical ability—the Mekons made an instant splash. Signed to a record contract after their second gig, their first single, “Never Been in a Riot,” was a sly riposte to the Clash’s “White Riot,” and immediately marked the Mekons as a band that had no use for punk orthodoxy. When that record was named Single of the Week by NME, it prompted one admiring journalist—better known today as the filmmaker MARY HARRON—to write an article extolling the band’s “spontaneous amateurism.” In a tone of amused bewilderment—she can’t believe she’s still talking about the Mekons more than three decades later—Harron poses the now compelling question that seemed ludicrous at the crux of their semi-fabled history: “How do you have an amateur band as a career?”

Cofounder and singer/guitarist JON LANGFORD provides a clue when he tells a radio interviewer, recalling a time when the band was routinely ignored after the initial furor over punk rock had subsided, “We were universally hated and derided, so we thought we’d have our revenge on the world.” But the answer is more complex than that. By retracing the band’s wildly improbable history—its early embrace of traditional English folk music; its reinvention as a country-influenced band to support striking miners; its forays into the art world, including collaborations with VITO ACCONCI and KATHY ACKER; its recurring bad fortune with major record labels; and the band’s restless exploration of diverse musical genres—we understand how and why this band grew to be so admired by fans and critics. Along the way, we come to know what it truly means to be an artist in a culture debased by materialism, selfishness and greed.

Original footage of the Mekons living together while they compose songs for their new album reveals the group’s unique collaborative process. Unlike most bands, in which one or two songwriters provide the material, the Mekons are proudly leaderless. Scenes ranging from the quotidian (the octet taking a break to prepare and eat dinner together) to the ineffable (when we witness each member’s organic contributions to the creation of new music) speak to a social responsibility that begins at home. It’s a captivating window into the working methods of a band unlike any other.

The Mekons long ago stopped playing punk-rock music but, as the film shows, they’ve stayed true to the punk ethos: to create something of value and that has meaning, without compromising your ideals. The band members’ lives outside the Mekons underscore this point. Violinist SUSIE HONEYMAN makes a case for the value of older artists—in a culture that’s obsessed with the “new and emerging”—by drawing parallels between the Mekons and the artists she exhibits at her Grey Gallery in London. We accompany multi-instrumentalist LU EDMONDS to Tajikistan, where he spearheads the construction of a low-budget recording studio for third-world musicians in Dushanbe. And we witness the boundless creative energy of Jon Langford: painting in his studio, greeting visitors at his art opening, hosting his Chicago radio show, performing at benefit concerts with his numerous side bands. The Mekons may be avowedly leaderless, but Langford proves to be the engine that keeps the train running.

As befits a group that remains fiercely committed not only to its art but also to each other, the film reaches a stirring conclusion: the eight Mekons affirming their vows to one another during a pagan wedding ceremony at a stone circle in the English Lake District. Part alt-history lesson, part reflection on the role of artists in society, REVENGE OF THE MEKONS is an intimate, revealing and entertaining portrait of a one-of-a-kind group—with killer music, to boot!

“Muck” Film Stars Horror Legend Kane Hodder and the 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year

Following up on its teaser trailer that generated over 30 articles in the horror community and earned the only horror film panel at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2013, WithanO Productions just released the theatrical trailer for its upcoming “Muck” film.  “Muck” stars the horror legend Kane Hodder (“Friday the 13th” 7-10, “Hatchet” trilogy) and the new Scream Queen, 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year, Jaclyn Swedberg.  The trailer will provide a more in-depth look at the film, and it can be seen at or on the film’s website,
“Muck” was filmed completely on the Red Epic in Ultra HD over the course of 19 grueling all-night shoots.  Shot entirely on location in the swamps and marshes of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this dangerous shoot was nearly impossible when you factor in first-time director Steve Wolsh produced “Muck” on a mirco-budget of $200,000.
Although an independent feature, “Muck” matches the quality of any top Hollywood film.  By using the industry’s preferred 4K HD camera, “Muck” images surpassed larger budget indie films even before DaVinci color correction.   For the record, the Red cameras used weren’t “stolen”, just “borrowed without asking” and returned with minimal water damage.  Moreover, after Universal Studios viewed the first cut of the film, the powerhouse agreed to mix “Muck” for theatre surround sound on the Universal lot.

Besides the Horror Legend and Playmate of the Year, “Muck” features an amazing cast of up-and-coming actors, led by Australian hunk Lachlan Buchanan (“Newcastle”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and “NCIS: Red”) and Indian beauty Puja

Mohindra.  Very few Hollywood films feature strong lead roles for Indian actresses, and this is a first for any American horror film, a breakout role for Mohindra.
The “Muck” production did not make it easy on the actors, though.  SAG expressed concern during production of this film, stating, “‘Muck’ is, without a doubt, one of the top 5 most violent scripts we have ever seen come through.”  With concern from SAG, horror fans can rejoice about stunts in the upcoming film:  in-water fighting, full-body fire burns, high-impact falls, and even a naked woman thrown through glass.
All things for “Muck,” the next big franchise in horror, can be found at  videos/photos/gifs and more.

Queensrÿche film mini movie Queensrÿche: Ad Lucem

Legendary Seattle rockers, Queensrÿche recently filmed a ‘mini movie’ with the tracks, “Spore” “Midnight Lullaby” “A World Without” and “X2” providing the score to a 10-plus minute story, dubbedQueensrÿche: Ad Lucem. The film was created by Veva Entertainment Co. with director Daniel Andres Gomez Bagby and producer Marco De Molina and was filmed last month on location at Central City Stages in Los Angeles. Todd La Torre, vocalist for Queensrÿche has issued the following statement:

“We decided to take a different approach with this video, which is comprised of four pieces of music from our latest self-titled release, Queensrÿche.  It’s a conceptual mini-movie music video that invites the audience to scratch beneath the surface a bit, rather than the usual “chewed food” that so many are used to being fed.  We really wanted to deviate from a performance type of video so the music and story-line could be the main focus.”

La Torre also adds, “The overall theme of the song Spore is one that deals with personal demons, relationship struggles, career pressures, personal/professional morals and ethical dilemmas.  These are issues we all face on some level and the video touches upon them all.  Midnight Lullaby/A World Without deals with the loss of a mother during childbirth, leaving a father as a single parent and struggling to move forward through the turmoil. X2, though it opens up our album, provides for a nice outro to it all. The end result is a roller coaster of emotion in an effort to find a healthy resolve. Given our history, we feel that this multifaceted conceptual video, along with a great cast of actors to suit, will really resonate with our fans.”

Queensrÿche first burst onto the music scene in 1982 with the release of their self-titled 4 song EP Queensrÿche. They very quickly gained international recognition and performed to sold out audiences around the world. With the follow up first full-length album “The Warning” in 1984, and the ground breaking 1986 release of “Rage For Order”, Queensrÿche continued to prove their worldwide dominance as one of the most respected and creative bands of the 80’s. In 1988 the band turned out yet another monumental album “Operation: Mindcrime”, which would go on to become one of the TOP 10 best-selling concepts records of all time, and set the stage for continued sold out performances around the world. With the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Empire” in 1991, the band earned multiple Grammy Award nominations and won the MTV “viewer’s choice” award for the #1 chart topping hit “Silent Lucidity”. During the next ten years, the band continued to release albums and tour the world to sold-out audiences. Queensrÿche has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and have continued to break new ground and push their creative process.

Banger Films Launches Final “Extreme Metal” Crowndfunding Push

Award-Winning Metal Filmmakers Join Forces with Underground Metal Community to Complete “Extreme Metal”

After an enormously successful IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign raising nearly $40,000, Grammy-nominated and Juno-winning Banger Films is embarking on a final push to create the “Lost Episode” of the series Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal. The episode will take viewers on an unprecedented journey across Europe and North America to tell the story of metal’s most aggressive and misunderstood sub-genre.

“Our first IndieGoGo campaign was a huge success and we were blown-away by the support of the metal community,” says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. “The research, writing, travel and filming is now complete and we’ve captured some amazing interviews and footage. But we need to turn this footage into an episode!” The new campaign kicked off Friday, August 9th. Details of the campaign, including a brand-new trailer featuring exclusive footage from Banger’s Extreme Metal filming trip, can be found here:

Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on the “Heavy Metal Family Tree” originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Host and metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn crisscrossed the globe exploring the vast history of Heavy Metal across its 40+ year history, covering everything from the Pre-History of Metal and Shock Rock to Grunge and Thrash Metal. But one very important episode was left out: Extreme Metal. “Some of the networks felt that Extreme Metal was too heavy or too niche. We’re out to prove that Extreme Metal is metal’s most vital sub-genre and that metal would probably die without it!,” says Dunn.

Tom Gabriel Warrior, legendary frontman for extreme metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon, was interviewed by Dunn for the episode: “It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to host Sam and his outstanding team at my place in Zurich. That extreme metal has been overlooked in this series so far is a scandal. This episode is utterly overdue!”

Bands appearing in the episode include Venom, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Slayer, Napalm Death, Carcass, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Enslaved, Gojira and more. The episode will also feature some renowned locations in the history of Extreme Metal including Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, as well as travel footage from Norway, Switzerland, UK, US, and Hellfest (France), one of the world’s biggest metal festivals.

Contributors’ support for the new IndieGoGo campaign will cover costs of finishing the episode which includes editing, archival and music licensing, onlining, sound mixing and other post-production costs. “People are often surprised by how much making quality film and TV costs. It requires a lot of hard work from a team of talented people to ensure we make the best possible show. Extreme Metal deserves the same high-production value and attention to detail that we gave the other Metal Evolution episodes”, adds Dunn. “I’m not getting paid to make this episode but what matters to me is that the Metal Evolution series is finally completed!”

Film School Rejects reveals official trailer for “Not Waving But Drowning”

At Noisy Ghost, we’re happy to be able to support projects we’re passionate about beyond standard record releases, and when this film came across our desk, it was a no brainer that we had to be involved.

Writer/director Devyn Waitt was a founding member of NYC electro pop band, Challenger, a group which was born in the scoring of this film’s soundtrack. Featuring original compositions by Challenger frontman John Ross, some of which are included in the band’s 2012 debut LP The World Is Too Much For Me, the music is as intergral a part of this movie as any other aspect.

The trailer below is set to a brand new Challenger song “Science of a Seizure,” which will be found on the band’s 2014 sophomore release, Back To Bellevue. We’d love if you were able to share the song and the film trailer with your readers, and watch the movie when it releases August 27 on YouTube.

Small town girls, big city dreams…

Not Waving But Drowning is a lyrical film, beautifully photographed with a soundtrack that ushers you through the adventures and transformation of two best friends. The turning points of the girls’ “revolution summer” are subtle, the same way you can’t feel yourself changing day to day. At it’s core the film is about duality, right down to the fact that it’s two stories in one, as it opens with a short film The Most Girl Part of You. The film’s cast is lead by: Vanessa Ray (Pretty Little LiarsSuits), Megan Guinan, Adam Driver (Girls), Lynn Cohen (Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Isabelle McNally and introduces Lilli Reinhart and Ryan Munzert.

Writer/director, Devyn Waitt partnered with her fellow FSU Film School alum, Nicole Emanuele, to produce the film. They raised funds from pretty much everywhere; family, friends, investors and a kickstarter campaign to help with one of the most exciting scenes, “The Horse on the Train.” With an army of FSU Alumni (Music: John Ross, Editor: Dylan Correll, DP: Nathan Levine Heaney, Costumes: Amelia Gibson and Megan Campbell) and new friends from the big apple (Production Design: Katy Rusch, Sound Editing: Eric Hoffman, Casting: Susan Shopmaker and Randi Glass, Finishing: Nice Dissolve) they put together a production that spanned three states, forty five days of shooting, and 260 afternoons spent in Devyn’s living room editing the film.

Not Waving But Drowning has captured audiences at film festivals, screenings and events in New York, LA, Sarasota, Tampa, Key West, Ann Arbor, Napa Valley, Wroclaw (Poland), Malmo (Sweden) and Paris. It’s been awarded the Top Jury Prize from US in Progress at the American Film Festival in Wroclaw Poland, a special prize for Cinematography at the Napa Valley Film Festival, and was selected as one of the top films at the Key West Film Festival to play in 17 Goodrich Quality Theaters.

Not Waving But Drowning was made to connect people. With that spirit in mind, we’ve chosen to make the film universally available on YouTube. We hope that you search for the the film and go for the ride: preferably with the YouTube app on your TV, and the volume real loud!

AMON AMARTH: First Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Posted

AMON AMARTH: First Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Posted

As previously announced, today AMON AMARTH unveils the first of their special three-part mini documentary titled Forging Mjölnir. Filmed and directed by Luke Daley (, the up-close-and-personal clip — which includes stunning black and white nature footage and Norse artwork — celebrates the imminent release of the band’s ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods.

Watch the six-and-a-half minute segment where vocalist Johan Hegg and bassist Ted Lundström elaborate on the mythological themes found within their latest epic via the band’s microsite at

Not many bands can claim their ninth album as the most powerful, dynamic, and plainly aggressive of their career, but then AMON AMARTH have consistently upped their game with every successive release. Having exploded onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology. Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers.“Every time we start working on new music we begin with the idea that we’re going to write the best album ever,” Hegg states. “We knew we wanted a more aggressive, live feeling to this record but there’s no formula behind what we do. We just try to write something that takes us a step further than the last record, and is something that will excite us and our fans. Deceiver Of The Gods is the result.”

For proof, sample fourth track, “Shape Shifter” now streaming via Stereogum HERE.

Deceiver of the Gods was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The follow-up to the band’s critically adored 2011 Surtur Rising full-length offers up ten maniacally heavy battle hymns rife with the band’s absorbing harmonies and Hegg’s commanding Viking roar. Deceiver of the Gods comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”

For special Deceiver of the Gods preorder packages as well as a stream of the title track, go to this location: of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th.

Parquet Courts and their debut album, Light Up Gold (What’s Your Rupture?), have been on a lot of people’s lips lately. The band burst on the scene from relative obscurity to become one of the most exciting and talked-about rock bands making music today, with features inRolling Stone, Pitchfork, SPIN, Under The Radar, The Village Voice, NY Postand more. That’s not normal, it’s an aberration, and only happens when the planets align and the tunes are right. It’s a strange series of events for any band to go through, and not everyone is lucky enough to have an accomplished documentarian like Andy Capper along for the ride to capture a singular three-week period during the height of it all. Capper’s work includes documentary films such as The Vice Guide To Liberia, Swansea Love Story, Lil Bub & Friendz, REINCARNATED, and music videos for A$AP Rocky, Vybz Kartel, Black Lips, and Snoop Lion. His approach to filmmaking is getting as intimate with the subject matter as possible and letting them be the stars of the piece.

“When bassist Sean Yeaton left his job and the safety of a desk job for the wild life of a performing minstrel, I decided to get a camera and follow him on the first three weeks of his new life,” says Capper. “We went from Mexico to Texas and London in a very short time period for the amount of great moments we had together. I love Sean and his band – Austin, Andrew and Max – and I hope that this is reflected in this short film that we made together.”“Light Up Gold Road Trip” premiered today on Noisey.

Thee Oh Sees’ Petey Dammit Debuts New Documentary Film

Petey & Ginger – A Testament To The Awesomeness Of Mankind, A Film By Ada Bligaard Søby

Premieres At SF DocFest June 10th

Director Statement:

‘Petey & Ginger’ is a film about the time we live in more than it is about two people in particular. The two characters have willingly and generously let me use their life stories to create an abstract portrait of a broken culture. The film is a celebration of survival, music, companionship and chaos.

Click Here To Watch ‘Petey & Ginger’ Trailer

When the global economy collapses the only true victors are those that weren’t invited to the boom. Petey plays in a band and works in a pornography warehouse, packing and shipping sex paraphernalia to customers all over the world. Ginger works the late night shift in a bar as a fortune-teller to those who have been hit hard by the financial crisis.

Living on opposite coasts of America and both friends of the filmmaker, both their stories begin with their respective escapes from difficult childhoods. The film weaves voices and images, seeking to reveal how in-between people are hanging on in today’s America, desiring and dreaming in a no-man’s-land, but now adapted to the lack of hope.

“Petey & Ginger” is a personal take on individual crisis vs. collective crisis, and what happens when the two overlap. In their narrative, we experience a broken culture exposing a wasteland of shattered economic dreams and unfulfilled social promises; a reality that only music and friendship float freely above.

Born in Denmark in 1975. Grew up in a community of historians in a 16th century renaissance castle north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Has two parents and four brothers, three of them half African.

Moved to New York at age twenty to study at School of Visual Arts, but ended up waitressing in nightclubs instead. Later she assisted fashion photographer Terry Richardson around the time when he was making the ‘Terryworld’ book, and made motorcycle trips around the US with her camera and boyfriend. After four years in New York City, she moved back to Denmark and became a member of the Copenhagen based filmmaker collective Super 16. Is a self taught filmmaker and photographer. Exhibits photography and video art at Brachfeld gallery in Paris and has shot documentaries for Nordic and International broadcasters in the US, China, Russia, Singapore, Finland and England. Has received several working grants from The Danish State Arts Foundation and won one (!) award once: Best Danish Doc in 2010 at CPH:DOX Film Festival.

The Source Family: Opening in 25+ Cities May 2013 w/ Special Premiere Events in NY, LA & SF

Los Angeles, CA (April 5, 2013) – Drag City Film Distribution expands the theatrical run of THE SOURCE FAMILY (previously titled The Source), the feature length documentary directed by Maria Demopoulos and Jodi Wille about Father Yod and The Source Family‘s radical experiment in ’70s utopian living, and announces special premiere events happening in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and beyond. Directors Jodi Wille and Maria Demopoulous have organized a series of special events in various cities: bands will form to play original Source Family music, renowned chefs will prepare and serve original Source recipes, original Source Family members will lead workshops teaching rituals and meditations, and various Source Family members will be present for Q&As following screenings. A detailed list of all of these events is below, along with a list of all of the cities where THE SOURCE FAMILY will be playing throughout May and June. More cities are being added.

The Source Family’s outlandish lifestyle, popular celebrity hangout restaurant, rock band, and beautiful women made them the darlings of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip; but their outsider ideals and controversial spiritual leader, Father Yod, instigated local authorities. Yod was a visionary health food restaurateur, war hero, and judo champion who had thirteen wives and fronted the now legendary psych band Ya Ho Wa 13. The family fled to Hawaii, leading to their dramatic demise. Years later, family members surface and the rock band reforms, revealing how the experience shaped their lives in the most unexpected ways. These personal accounts, along with interviews with outsiders, make up the experiences told in THE SOURCE FAMILY. However, the story is largely cinematic, expressed through the use of the group’s extensive film and audio archive maintained by Isis Aquarian, one of Father’s wives and a central character in the documentary (as well as being associate producer). The film’s soundtrack is composed entirely of original Source Family music produced from 1971-1975. This treasure trove of interviews and never-before-seen home movies, photographs, and original music provides an unparalleled insider’s view into the cult/commune phenomenon and wildly outside-the-box social experimentation of the early ’70s-as well as a being a wholly unique California story.

The Documentary

Narrated by David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Co-produced by Aaron Lewis (STAIND), this documentary by Fran Strine takes on a tragic truth – that those men that put their lives on the line to defend our freedom have come home to a world plagued by PTSD and homelessness.  1 in 7 homeless adults are veterans and over ¼ of homeless veterans suffer from mental illness, physical illness and substance abuse at the same time.

These sad truths moved a concerned public to donate en masse to get the film made leading to a rousing KICKSTARTER success.  The film raised 190% of its funding goal with the soundtrack raising 120% of its funding goal. The film is currently available on CHILL ( and will see its official physical release along with its soundtrack on April 24th.

“After engaging in conversations with these veterans living on the streets and hearing their stories, I knew this was the documentary I had to make and show that we, as citizens can make a difference,” says director and co-producer Fran Strine. The VA was approved $1.35 billion for the homeless in 2013 – a mere 0.035% of the $8.3 trillion US budget, says The White House Office of Management & Budget.  Forbes adds that providing permanent housing for the chronic homeless would save taxpayers $3 billion.

The soundtrack for the film features members of many prominent rock bands. DC of EYE EMPIRE, a former soldier himself, said of his band’s involvement, “I have always been sensitive to issues that face our troops Stateside & abroad.  When our good friend Fran mentioned that he and Aaron were going to be making this film and that he would like for us to be involved with the music, we were very humbled.”  Vocalist, Pete Murray (previously of ULTRASPANK) called working with the likes of Ellefson and Mike Mushok of STAIND “…an amazing experience. Working with other musicians with different backgrounds and influences has been an incredible opportunity.”

In addition to his narration duties, MEGADETH’s David Ellefson contributed to the soundtrack.  He explains the synergy between the music and the film, “Lyrically these songs were inspired directly by the film and the people portrayed in it.  In many ways, the Soundtrack continues the narrative of the film in music form.  I am proud that the songs and people involved in making them took the subject matter to heart and used it as the springboard for our songwriting.”  Composing score and soundtrack music was a labor of love for STAIND’s Mike Mushok.  “In writing music to the film, I got to watch a scene and express how I feel about it by writing music to it,” explains Mushok.  “It was something that I really enjoyed doing and am happy with the way it ultimately turned out.”

Spread the information about the plight of these veterans by purchasing the film and soundtrack and sharing it with your friends and family. Information is power and “Battlefield Of The Mind” is the ultimate ammunition in battling veteran homelessness and PTSD.

“You’re Nothing turns everything up – it’s smarter, faster, catchier and noisier than their debut, more a Funhouse than a Rock for Light. This points to another pleasure of the underground: watching young bands go from good to great in real time.” — SPIN

“Iceage has only improved on its formula of turbulent energy and disaffected poetry, managing still to sound youthful, even juvenile – not such a stretch, age-wise – while reaching toward new ambitions.”  — The New York Times

“Iceage write brilliant songs; on You’re Nothing, they’ve found a way to clarify these compositional skills without stripping away their power . . . New Brigade was: “brittle” in an excellently fuzzed, rancid way, but You’re Nothing is a heftier experience.” — Pitchfork [BEST NEW MUSIC]

“Even on their raw 2011 debut, Iceage knew how to sculpt the noise into songs, but You’re Nothing is a huge jump forward.” – Rolling Stone

“Iceage still thrills here, hurtling through tangled, fuzzed-out hard-core jams that rarely stretch past the three-minute mark. Yet Ronnenfelt and his band mates haven’t passed up the opportunity, so juicy on an anticipated follow-up, to deepen their sound.” — Los Angeles Times

“The band’s second exercise in the dark arts bulks up their sound without losing its ascetic ferocity”  — Entertainment Weekly

About Drag City Film Distribution

Drag City Film Distribution is the theatrical/home entertainment distribution arm of the multi-disciplinary record label, Drag City. Forming in 1989, Drag City once fed strictly on the whims of the record buyer, with promotional videos where called for – but by the mid-90s began releasing books, magazines, films, and even minting a coin! By the mid-aughts, this led to the DVD format. Drag City got its groove with reasonably popular DVD releases such as Fred Armisen Presents: Jens Hanneman/Complicated Drumming Technique, Vernon Chatman’s Final Flesh, the documentary film Silver Jew, and DVD releases of Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti’s early ’90s art-ghetto documentaries. An association with filmmaker Harmony Korine led to Drag City distributing his film, Trash Humpers (2010). Most recently, Drag City Film Distribution handled the theatrical release of Tristan Patterson’s Dragonslayer (2011).

Prior to this film, Drag City Records has released several albums by Father Yod and the Source Family, including Chants and Songs by Father and The Original Source Family (2006), Magnificence in the Memory(2009) and The Thought Adjusters (2012). For more information, visit:

The film was directed by Trevor Owsley and Jason Naylor and edited by Joel Walker.

“As bodies become darker and darker we become aware that we are losing light while simultaneously being buried with black,” says Naylor about the concept behind the video. “Still unsure of what’s going one, we indulge in black and fade away,” he continues. “Our eyes are open. We are alive.”

A creative music experience, an ode to a color that is a lifestyle, a color and a lifestyle that defines New York. BLACK will embrace the edge of culture in music, art, and fashion, while revering its inexhaustible history. The event will feature live musical performances by Matthew Dear, The Virgins, The Rapture DJ’s, and Jim-E Stack as well as custom art installations by Charlie Nesi, Young & Sick, and Joel Walker in Capitale, the historic Bowery Bank Building.

These personal accounts, along with interviews with outsiders, make up the interviews in the film. However, the story is largely cinematic, expressed through the use of the group’s extensive film and audio archive maintained by Isis Aquarian, one of Father’s wives, Family documentarian, and a central character in the documentary (as well as being associate producer). The film’s soundtrack is composed entirely of original Source Family music produced from 1971-1975.

THE SOURCE FAMILY is inspired by the cult-classic book The Source: The Story of Father Yod, Ya Ho Wa 13 and The Source Family written by Isis Aquarian and Electricity Aquarian and edited by Jodi Wille (Process Media, 2007). It received extensive praise in outlets including The New York Times Magazine, Los Angeles Times, PAPER, NPR, and LA Weekly.

THE SOURCE FAMILY, then titled The Source, was selected to world-premiere as one of eight documentary feature films in competition at SXSW 2012 and has played numerous festivals since, including sold-out screenings at SXSW, Silverdocs, Hot Docs Doc Soup, San Francisco International Film Festival, and the Seattle Film Festival. Other festivals and special screenings include the True/False Boon Dawdle and Burning Man.
