Baroness Release Gold & Grey On June 14 Via Abraxan Hymns

BAND Release “Borderlines” Video As North American Tour Is Underway
Baroness release their eagerly-awaited new album, Gold & Grey, on June 14 via Abraxan Hymns.

The band has simultaneously released a video for the song “Borderlines”, which saw its live performance debut at Baroness’s tour kick off last Friday in Houston.

“Our goal is, was, and will always be to write increasingly superior, more honest and compelling songs, and to develop a more unique and challenging sound,” offered Baroness founder, guitar player and vocalist John Baizley. “I’m sure we have just finished our best, most adventurous album to date. We dug incredibly deep, challenged ourselves and recorded a record I’m positive we could never again replicate. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to know Sebastian, Nick and Gina as both my bandmates and my friends. They have pushed me to become a better songwriter, musician and vocalist. We’re all extremely excited for this release, which includes quite a few ‘firsts’ for the band, and we’re thrilled to be back on tour to play these psychotic songs for our fans. Expect some surprises.”

While Gold & Grey found the outfit once again working with Purple producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mogwai), sequestering themselves at Fridmann’s remote upstate New York Tarbox Road Studio, the 17-track album ushered in two significant changes: a decidedly different recording process and guitar player Gina Gleason’s debut on a Baroness recording. The band, who tracked portions of the vocals, guitars and overdubs in Baizley’s home-basement studio, another first for the band, eschewed their normal routine of entering the studio with meticulously detailed plans and instead opted for a looser, more improvisational approach that resulted in the band’s most collaborative and emotionally evocative release to date.

“On Gold & Grey we have taken some unexpected paths on a labyrinthine sonic adventure. We accepted sounds and styles that have not appeared on previous Baroness albums, and I’m excited to welcome our fans into our new lair,” added drummer Sebastian Thomson.

“Having the chance to create music without any preconceived boundaries was both liberating and intimidating,” explains guitar player Gina Gleason. “As we pushed past our fear and comfort zone, the four of us connected in a way that allowed us to create freely, uplift one another and build the unique sonic world that is Gold & Grey. As a longtime Baroness listener, it is exciting to have created something new while still maintaining a deep love and understanding of the band’s roots. To say that the making of this record was quite a journey would be an understatement. We are beyond excited to share this experience and music with everyone!”

“…’The River,’ an inspirational, anthemic, emotionally charged song that puts KT’s immediately recognizable voice at center stage. At once, it grabs you with a synth hook for a few quick seconds before KT’s powerful voice takes over. The song builds with rocking, rhythmic guitar textures and an infectious chorus that you always expect from her. “The River” powerfully delivers on the promise of the album’s concept. The guitars rock and the subject matter touches on salvation, sin and being saved.” – NPR

#20: The 40 Most Anticipated Albums of Fall 2018…” Tunstall is back with the inspirational and emotionally charged song, bringing the same energy and powerful voice that scored her a pair of top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits more than a decade ago: “Black Horse & The Cherry Tree” in 2006 and “Suddenly I See” in 2007. “The River” builds up with rocking, rhythmic guitar textures and a catchy chorus that is signature of her work.”  – Billboard

“Despite these grim sentiments, “The River” is musically reassuring, precise and pretty. Tunstall constructs the track methodically. At first her voice is accompanied only by a repetitive line on a synthesizer; after close to 20 seconds, a ringing electric guitar and an easygoing bassline join the fray. A breathless drum pattern, played largely on a cymbal, and a jangly rhythm guitar come next; the final touch is polished backing vocals, which serve to add a slick, radio-ready veneer.” – Rolling Stone

“New song ‘The River’ leads the way, a soaring, searing return, with a rousing chorus tinged with elements of sun-strewn Americana – viewed from the drizzle of Fife, we’re sure.” – Clash

October 5, 2018- Brit and Ivor Novello Award-winning artist KT Tunstall’s 6th studio album, “WAX,” is out now via Rostrum Records.

KT’s 6th studio album was entirely self/co-written and is produced by Nick McCarthy, founding member of multimillion-selling band Franz Ferdinand, with co-production from duo MyRiot (London Grammar, Birdy). “WAX” also features co-writing contributions from her frequent creative collaborator Martin Terefe and Kings Of Leon producer/ mentor Angelo Petraglia. Along with drumming duties from seasoned LA-based musician Denny Weston Jnr and guitar from a longstanding friend and collaborator Charlotte Hatherley amongst others, KT can be heard on guitar, synths and vocals throughout.

“WAX” available at https://KTTunstall.lnk.to/WAX
Lead single “The River” is written by KT Tunstall and Martin Terefe and produced by Nick McCarthy, Sebastian Kellig and MyRiot. It opens with an arresting synth hook, before KT’s powerful voice enters, emotionally taking centre stage. The track builds with strong rhythmic guitar textures, exploding into an anthemic chorus. Heavy guitar riffs are central to this track capturing the dirt, grit and physicality of the album. KT explains “it’s about wanting to escape the madness in the world, escaping bad relationships, and wanting to be washed clean – emancipation through nature”.

Following the success of 2016’s Top 10 album KIN, “WAX” is the 2nd of a trilogy which explores themes of spirit, body, and mind. This album focuses on the body, and our complex relationships with physicality. As KT describes “I knew before I started writing that I wanted it to be an electric guitar record. It had to be visceral, about the physical, and the obstacles of that. It’s a record about human-ness, which we so often just write off as ‘flaws’. Wax evokes colonies of bees, candlelight, the material that the first long-playing records were made of”, she explains, “but more than that, wax is produced inside your own head”.

In support of the new album, tune in to Live With Kelly and Ryan on October 9th at 9:00AM ET local time to catch KT perform her single “The River.” Then the week of October 15th at 10:00AM ET local time, tune in to CBS’s The Rachael Ray Show to catch another appearance from KT.

Then she will embark on her U.S. tour starting October 16th in Portland, OR and then wraps up November 18th in Vancouver, BC. See all tour dates below.

KT is offering “Up Close VIP Package” which includes: A general admission ticket, early entry to the venue to watch part of KT’s soundcheck followed by a Q&A with KT, a photo with KT, and a pre-signed tour poster and VIP gift.

REVOCATION will be touring in support of their upcoming album, The Outer Ones. Set for release on September 28th via Metal Blade Records, The Outer Ones sees the band pushing both the death metal and progressive elements of their signature sound harder than ever before. “I knew that I wanted to go in a darker direction, and this is our most death metal album to date,” states vocalist/guitarist Dave Davidson. “Sometimes when death metal bands go down the prog route, they lose some of that edge, but we wanted to keep the aggression at the forefront of what we do while still pushing our boundaries.”
Moving away from the societal and historical themes that informed 2016’s Great Is Our Sin, this time Davidson has immersed himself in the fantastic, evoking one of the great writers of the sci-fi/horror genre. “The title is my ode to H. P. Lovecraft and the entities of pure cosmic horror that rule that universe he created. Since the new music we were writing was so evil and spacey in sections it seemed to be the right title to fit the overall vibe. But while the lyrical content is largely influenced by such writings, in every allegory there is, of course, some reflection of the real world, so I enjoy writing in a way that could have one overlaying meaning and then another deeper, symbolic meaning as well.”
For preorders and to view the band’s video for “Of Unworldly Origin,” directed by David Brodsky, visit metalblade.com/revocation.
“If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be dough flattened out by a rolling pin, here’s your chance to find out.” — MetalSucks on The Outer Ones title track

Good Charlotte Releases Seventh Studio Album Generation Rx

BAND PERFORMED NEW SINGLE “PRAYERS” ON THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN LAST NIGHT AND WAS JOINED BY THE ONE AND ONLY DR. PHIL ON THEIR SMASH “LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH & FAMOUS”
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF OCTOBER 12, 2018
Los Angeles, CA – September 14, 2018 – Good Charlotte today released their highly-anticipated seventh studio album Generation Rx via MDDN/ BMG. The album is available digitally and physically now HERE. Limited edition merch bundles are available exclusively through the band’s online store HERE.
Last night Good Charlotte celebrated the release of the album with a extraordinary performance of their latest single “Prayers” on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS. Watch it HERE. The band also appeared in a hilarious skit alongside music guru James Corden, whose plan to elevate them from Good Charlotte to Great Charlotte through a collaboration with Dr. Phil doesn’t quite pan out. Watch Dr. Phil perform guest vocals on fan favorite “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” HERE.
Good Charlotte: Prayers
Dr. Phil Rocks Out with Good Charlotte
On September 12, 2018, Good Charlotte hosted a  friends and family album release party at influential streetwear store Round Two in Los Angeles, CA. The event featured an intimate performance from Good Charlotte, DJ sets from Emo Nite, a merchandise museum, and pizza. A selection of images from the party is available HERE.  The event follows the band’s recent merchandise collaboration with streetwear brand Chinatown Market.
Good Charlotteannounced Generation Rx in May and shared singles “Actual Pain“, “Shadowboxer“, and “Prayers” ahead of its release. The album represents both a new chapter and full circle moment for the group-brothers Joel [vocals] and Benji Madden [guitar, vocals], Billy Martin [guitar], Paul Thomas [bass], and Dean Butterworth [drums]. Powered by punk spirit, rock songcraft, and cinematic ambition, they retain the signature vitality and vulnerability of their formative years, while delivering an urgent, unafraid, and undeniable message befitting of two decades in the game.
The quintet craft intricate, yet infectious anthems of hope for a generation under the shadow of the Opioid epidemic, icons gone too soon, mass tragedy, loneliness, and confusion. Produced by Zakk Cervini and Benji during intimate sessions at MDDN headquarters, the record finds Good Charlotte doing what they do best-speaking directly to the youth.
Next month, Good Charlotte will embark on a massive North American Tour in support of Generation Rx that will kick off on October 12, 2018 in Mexico City, and wrap on November 24, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. Sleeping with Sirens, Knuckle Puck, and The Dose will provide support on the tour. Tickets are available now HERE. Good Charlotte will return to the road in Europe and The UK for a tour kicking off February 1, 2019. A complete list of upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE.

ABOUT GOOD CHARLOTTE:
First formed in 1996 by brothers Joel and Benji Madden, Maryland’s GOOD CHARLOTTE soundtracked the turn-of-the-century and empowered a generation with one cleverly catchy anthem after another. 2000’s landmark self-titled debut earned a gold plaque and quietly set the stage for worldwide superstardom. In 2002, they unleashed the now-classic The Young and the Hopeless, which eventually went RIAA triple-platinum and would be lauded in the Top 20 of Rolling Stone’s “50 Greatest Pop-Punk Albums” and BuzzFeed’s “36 Pop Punk Albums You Need to Hear Before You F–ing Die.” 2004’s The Chronicles of Life and Death bowed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and reached platinum status as Good Morning Revival [2007] and Cardiology [2010] repeated that Top 10 success and brought the band around the world multiple times in front of countless screaming fans. Along the way, everyone from N.E.R.D. and Three 6 Mafia to Avenged Sevenfold and Tonight Alive jumped at the chance to collaborate. By 2018, cumulative sales exceeded 11 million worldwide, while accolades encompassed everything from KERRANG! Awards to an MTV VMA. Following a six-year hiatus, they made a much-lauded return with their first independent offering Youth Authority during 2016. However, their music and message prove as potent as ever on 2018’s Generation Rx-the first album to be released under their partnership with BMG. Generation Rx needed a voice, and there’s no one better to provide it than GOOD CHARLOTTE.

Bay Area melodic death metal outfit LIGHT THIS CITY has confirmed a run of East Coast North American tour dates for November.

With Terminal Bloom, the band’s first album in a decade, LIGHT THIS CITY returns with ten tracks that capture the band’s tendency towards extreme melody and intensity, honoring the Swedish sound of the ‘90s. Having spent the past decade performing and touring in numerous other bands, the five members of LIGHT THIS CITY have only honed and shaped their skills and musicianship since their 2008-released Stormchaser. Terminal Bloom was recorded from December 2017 through February 2018 with Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Fallujah) at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, California, as with their previous four albums, and is wrapped in the vibrant cover artwork of Tony Midi.

These shows will be LIGHT THIS CITY’s first performances outside of the West Coast since the band’s rebirth, as they continue to support their acclaimed Terminal Bloom LP. Running from November 6th through November 11th, LIGHT THIS CITY will trample through Cleveland, Toronto, Montreal, Brooklyn, Worcester, and Philadelphia, with support from Creator-Destructor labelmates Gygax for the entire run. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 31st at 10am EST.

Stream LIGHT THIS CITY’s Terminal Bloom LP at THIS LOCATION and see the official video for “Agents Of Fate” HERE.

Terminal Bloom is available on CD, LP, and digital formats now through Creator-Destructor Records; find order options at the label webstore HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

LIGHT THIS CITY Eastern US/Canada Tour w/ Gygax:
11/06/2018 The Foundry – Cleveland, OH
11/07/2018 Hard Luck Bar – Toronto, ON
11/08/2018 Katakombs – Montreal, QC
11/09/2018 Gold Sounds Bar – Brooklyn, NY
11/10/2018 Ralph’s Diner – Worcester, MA
11/11/2018 The Fire – Philadelphia, PA

Exclaim! Magazine’s review of Terminal Bloom included, “The idea of a band coming back from hiatus after so long can be daunting, but LIGHT THIS CITY have returned with more energy than when they left. Terminal Bloom is the record fans of the band have been waiting so long to hear and the ideal situation for a re-emerging artist.” Revolver Magazine offered, “Having spent the past ten years recording and touring with various side projects… the death-dealers have no time for playing catch-up; instead, the five-piece get right to the melodic, riff-filled goodness we’ve been craving since ’08.” Metal Injection stated, “I was surprised to find that LIGHT THIS CITY have a more varied sound than ever. I worry some will write this band off for their time in the early 2000’s metalcore scene, but this album is waaaaaaaaay more than that.”

New Noise Magazine’s interview included Combining the relentless riffage of thrash with the memorable guitar hooks of melodic metal is still the band’s modus operandi. Their early Metallica and ’90s-era In Flames influences are work proudly on their sleeves, but after ten years of playing in other bands, LIGHT THIS CITY know what they want and how they want it.” Bravewords proclaimed, “Channeling the best Sweden has to offer, specifically a whole lot of Arch Enemy with a healthy dose of At The Gates and The Haunted, along with a sprinkling of UK greatness a la Carcass, into a vicious American assault, LIGHT THIS CITY unleash a serious shit-kicking with these ten new tracks. There aren’t enough accolades to bestow upon vocalist Laura Nichol; she’s commanding, ferocious, intense, profound. And her band deserves just as much respect!” Dead Rhetoric’s 9/10 review included, “An exceptional return from one of American metal’s top underdogs, perhaps 2018 will give LIGHT THIS CITY the praise they have deserved. This is uncompromising, breakneck melodic death/thrash that consistently delivers memorable guitar heroics and triumphant melodies alongside visceral carnage. Terminal Bloomis a winner.”

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HENRY ROLLINS, LANDING IN PITTSBURGH 9/22 AT THE WARHOL MUSEUM

3112819423_49c1b1121bHenry Rollins has been a major influence since he first became a known name as Black Flag’s lead singer.  Since then he has continued wowing people as the singer in The Rollins Band, a writer, a publisher, a dynamic speaker, an actor, and now a photographer.  Locally, we are lucky enough to hear him speak and talk about his world travels with his poignant images to enhance the performance on the Slide Show Tour that will locally hit Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Rollins became an influence in my life in the early eighties when I was in high school.  The first time I heard Black Flag, I dug them, but when Henry took over vocals, there was a new element to the music that captured me.  I continued to devour all his artistic endeavors as he fronted his own band, published books, did speaking engagements, and even acted in some huge movies (i.e. “Heat”…still a favorite that is sacrilege to turn off when it pops up on cable).  I’ve seen Rollins speak numerous times and have dragged along students, my wife, and my best friends, converting them all into fans of the man who just speaks “real”.  I’ve asked for interviews numerous times but it never seemed to work out for various reasons, mainly Henry’s schedule, he is a super generous guy when he can be.  So, when his assistant told me that I could email questions and he would get back to me from the road, the fanboy in me rose up and did a little embarrassing dance internally.  These are just some of the questions I wanted to ask the man; if I could ask them all he would probably have to write an autobiography!

When did you start taking photos of your adventures?

I think I stared in 1998 in Egypt. I had been to the African continent before but didn’t want to haul camera gear around with me but after that first time there, I figured I better bring a camera, even if it was a point and shoot.

What type of equipment do you use?

I try to keep things as simple as possible. I use a Canon 5D and a couple of lenses. The more I travel with camera gear, the less I take. I would rather travel with two bodies but often I’m carrying things on my back for long periods of time, so I try to keep it light.

Do you have any idea of how many miles you have logged?

I travel internationally every year. Multiple times to Europe and Australia in 2018, with one more trip to Europe, Russia, Ukraine, and Iceland still to go. I’ve been traveling like this for decades, so I don’t know how many miles. I know there are people who fly internationally like someone takes a taxi across town.

rollinsI’ve seen you perform many times before and it always had the feel of being fresh and not canned.  Will you use different photos to speak of different experiences each night?

During the show, I put up a photo on the screen, talk about it, perhaps some historical information. The stories I tell onstage are often driven by travel. This time you will have the image of what I’m talking about.

Can you tell us a bit about the VIP experience you are offering? (note: not all cities)

I meet a few people post-show. Do photos with them and answer some questions and that’s it. It’s not a big deal. I can no longer stand out by the bus for 90 minutes and sign things and then seem them on eBay, so it’s a way to hit the middle.

Will you avoid politics speaking in front of mixed audiences, or project your opinions and let the cards fall where they may?

No. I never avoid politics. You can’t take photos internationally and not be political. The world is political. Water is political, almost everything is political. There isn’t anything I would say politically or otherwise, that is in any way controversial.

What you consider being called a renaissance man a compliment or an insult?

Mainly it’s a mistake and an insult to all those hard-working renaissance people out there. I’m not a renaissance man. I’m an opportunist. I’m adverse to boredom and mediocrity, so I try to make things as interesting as I can. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. I do like to get things done, so I say yes to a lot of different kinds of work.

What would it take for you to play live with a band again? Is it a never or only if that becomes what you are passionate about at the time?

HenryRollins_Performing_1993I’m not a musician. For me, it was a time/place thing. One of the reasons I know it was real is because I never really liked being in a band but it was in me and it had to come out. When there was no more left, I stopped. It was never about art or a career. It was like having a flu. It’s in you and then it’s gone. The idea of going out and doing old music to me is fighting wars that have already been fought. If I can’t do new music, then I’m just a war reenactor. It has to be real or I can’t do it. Like I said, it was a time/place thing. If I can’t hit it hard, then I don’t hit it at all.

What prompted you to get into podcasting?  Do you have favorite podcasts? (The I did some fanboy flattery over him being on The Joe Rogan podcast, so, Please check out his appearance on Rogan it’s fantastic)

Thanks. Mr. Rogan is great. My manager, Heidi said to me several months ago, that there were a lot of stories I’ve told her that I’ve not done onstage and that we should do a podcast so I could tell them. So, we started doing them and apparently, people seem to like them. I have not listened to many podcasts. I’ve heard a couple that Marc Maron did. He’s great.

Are you still in love with bands like Black Sabbath and The Misfits today as much as you were as a kid?  What was it like hanging out with Sabbath in Birmingham {Rollins got to be with them on their last tour}?

I listen to both bands all the time. They are core listening experiences. They’re like part of me. When Sabbath was planning to do their reunion shows in 1997, I think it was, I went to their band practice in Wales and then to Birmingham for the two shows. It was an amazing week. I was with the band pretty much every day. I sang Paranoid at soundcheck with Geezer, Tony and Bill playing. That was a great moment. The shows were fantastic. The day after they were done, I flew to Kenya. I used some of the leftover food from their dressing rooms for days while living in a tent.

When you worked in the ice cream store did you ever have an inclination (or even a desire) to travel the world like you do now?

When I graduated from high school, I had no plan. So, when I was working at the shop, I thought a version of that would be the rest of my life. I had no idea of anything. All I knew was that I was crazy, it was going to be very hard to be in the regular world and it was going to be all I could do to maintain. I truly thought the rest of my life was going to be a grind. I knew it wasn’t right for me but I didn’t think I had any choice.

Is there someone that influenced you to retain the humility, curiosity, and creativeness that you embody?

Not really somebody but some thing, yes. The reality that I’m nobody from nowhere. I was given a chance and to not make the best of it, would be betraying the break I was given. This truth keeps me fairly grounded. I don’t expect any of this to last more than the end of the next tour or whatever task is at hand. I’ve always felt this way.

You have been to Pittsburgh many times, what are your impressions of the city and do you have any favorite spots within the city?

Actually, I’ve always found the people to be great and very honest. It’s a very good audience. It’s a tough town but if you’re real then I reckon you’ll be okay. Pittsburgh was one of the first cities I played when I started out. I did a lot of two set nights there. Not easy. As to favorite spots, I can’t recall any, although I’ve had some great meals there. What’s that place where they put the French fries in the sandwich, that place is amazing (for those of you who do not know, he is speaking of Primanti’s).

You are speaking at The Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh…did Andy have any influence on you or fascination?

No influence but he’s a fascinating artist. When you go to the museum and see the pieces full size, it’s almost too much to take in. Incredibly powerful.

AUGUST 22, 2018 – Roadrunner Records activists THE FEVER 333 have shared an official music video for “MADE AN AMERICA,” which is streaming today on the group’s official YouTube channel. The poignant black and white video was directed by the band’s own Jason Aalon Butler who commented on the video stating:

“I am not afraid to talk about the truth anymore. I am not threatened by the ignorance that allowed us to push a very problematic history aside. There is no more reason for me to be compliant through silence, and there is absolutely no room for such silence in art. If you feel challenged by the idea of this video, I would encourage you to ask yourself ‘why?’ Then you can feel free to ask me or the other members of this project. This video was an attempt to offer representation to gravely underrepresented, and ironically prevalent, faction in both music and society. This is an acknowledgment of those whose bodies were exploited in the name of power. The beautiful bodies and souls that have been taken from time and time again to serve the interests of someone else with no regard for their own existence or advancement. America has provided examples of this for millennia, by make no mistake, we are not the only ones. My hope here is that people understand that by challenging these clearly damaging practices against people, we- the people, can observe the power that we possess when we move in solidarity. Integration, both voluntary and forcefully, sits at the foundation of our success and our failures as a people. Lest we forget, there is no power without the people, therefore all power lies within all people. We built this mother fucker.”

“Made An America” is the title track from THE FEVER 333’s politically charged debut EP which is available now at all digital music retailers and streaming services via Roadrunner Records/333 Wreckords Crew.  Furthermore, the track was selected as the theme song for WWE’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV,which took place this past weekend leading into SummerSlam.

MADE AN AMERICA – highlighted by the Top 10 Rock Radio track “WALKING IN MY SHOES” – will be released on 12” vinyl this Friday, August 24th withcopies available for pre-order now.  The vinyl version of MADE AN AMERICA will also feature a bonus remix of “Made An America,” featuring Vic Mensa and Travis Barker. For more information, visit 333.THEFEVER333.COM.

THE FEVER 333 will be making a series of festival demonstrations behind MADE AN AMERICA in the coming weeks, hitting stages at the United Kingdom’s Reading Festival (8/24), Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival (8/26), Chicago’s Riot Fest (9/14), and many more (see attached itinerary).  THE FEVER 333 will also traverse the U.S. for a run of headline club dates which begin September 23rd at Houston, TX’s White Oak Music Hall. For complete details and ticket availability, please visit 333.THEFEVER333.COM.

Comprised of vocalist Jason Aalon Butler [ex-letlive.], drummer Aric Improta [Night Verses], and guitarist Stephen Harrison [ex-The Chariot], THE FEVER 333 are explicitly devoted to a revolutionary cause, delivering aggressive advocacy through a molotov cocktail of punk, hip-hop, and thrash. MADE AN AMERICA exhibits THE FEVER 333’s revolutionary activism and serves as the banner for the band’s focus on community, charity, and change.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH sees Jack White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern. Written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with literally no outside world distractions, White exclusively used the same kind of gear he had when he was 15 years old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation). The album explores a remarkable range of sonic terrain — crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues, and even country — all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. BOARDING HOUSE REACH is a testament to the breadth of Jack White’s creative power and his bold artistic ambition.

BOARDING HOUSE REACH features White on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars and drums, organ, and synthesizers. He’s backed by a remarkable new lineup of musicians that includes: drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend, Mariah Carey), bassists Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger) and NeonPhoenix (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z), synthesizer players DJ Harrison and Anthony “Brew” Brewster (Fishbone, The Untouchables), keyboardists Neal Evans (Soulive, Talib Kweli, John Scofield) and Quincy McCrary (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pitbull), percussionists Bobby Allende (David Byrne, Marc Anthony) and Justin Porée (Ozomatli), and backing vocalists Esther Rose and Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville’s beloved gospel trio, The McCrary Sisters, as well as longtime collaborators like drummers Daru Jones (Nas, Talib Kweli) and Carla Azar (Autolux, Depeche Mode, Doyle Bramhall II). Singer-songwriter C.W. Stoneking also appears, contributing a stirring spoken word performance to the album’s “Abulia and Akrasia.”

BOARDING HOUSE REACH was produced by Jack White III and recorded at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN, Sear Sound in New York, NY, and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, CA; the album was mixed by Bill Skibbe, Joshua V. Smith, and White at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN.

“Connected By Love” b/w “Respect Commander” is available now digitally worldwide and as a physical 7-inch vinyl single pressed at Third Man Pressing in Detroit, MI. The single is accompanied by a brand-new music video from director Pasqual Gutierrez – watch it now HERE.

“Connected By Love” was greeted with rapturous global applause upon its arrival earlier this month, withRolling Stone exclaiming, “The four-year wait is over” with the “blistering first single” from BOARDING HOUSE REACHBillboard declared the song “a classic White confessional blues burner,” while Entertainment Weeklycalled it “thrillingly weird…a searing, organ-lined plea to a former flame.” NPR‘s Bob Boilen raved: “Connected By Love” is “a blend of old guitar blues that is simultaneously on the edge of rock’s horizon.”

White and Third Man Records have also revealed details of their BOARDING HOUSE REACH-themed Vault Package #35, marking the ONLY limited edition of the new album. Vault Package #35 is highlighted by a limited edition, colored vinyl version of BOARDING HOUSE REACH that will be the only vinyl variation of the LP to be made available. Pressed at Third Man Pressing in the Cass Corridor of Detroit, the 180-gram, blue and black swirl vinyl edition features exclusive Vault-only cover art which dramatically depicts White’s stylized face and is printed on arresting holographic foil paper in the classic Stoughton tip-on style. The LP is further accompanied by a unique-to-this-package 12″ x 24″ insert featuring the complete album lyrics.

The BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault package also includes a two-song demo 7-inch single, offering up embryonic versions of “Connected By Love” and the album track, “Why Walk a Dog?” The former take – billed here under its original title, “Infected By Love” – was recorded entirely by White in the aforementioned Nashville apartment. White found keyboard tones on this recording that the world’s most seasoned session musicians could not recreate in the studio and thus, some of those tones were sourced from this simple demo to be utilized on the final album version. Meanwhile, “Why Walk a Dog?” was recorded, like much of the BOARDING HOUSE REACH demos, alone at his private songwriting refuge. With its expressive synth and drum machine cadence, the track is overtly hypnotic even in this early state. Indeed, the “Connected By Love” and “Why Walk a Dog?” single provides a fascinating insight into White’s process, revealing the creative progression of his songs from inception to completion.

In addition to the recorded material, Vault Package #35 comes with three separate and exclusive photographs shot during BOARDING HOUSE REACH recording sessions. Taken by noted photographer – and White’s longtime friend – David Swanson at Sear Sound in New York and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, these large-format, high quality glossy reproductions are exclusive to the Vault. The photographs will be coupled with three foil-stamped poetry broadsides, printed on silky metallic papers (black, white, and blue) containing White’s poems from the new album tracks, “Abulia and Akrasia,” “Ezmerelda Steals the Show,” and “Get in the Mind Shaft.”

Lastly, BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault Package #35 will also include, for the third year running, a custom 2018 Third Man Records challenge coin, complete with album-specific artwork. The substantial and stylish coin doubles as a 45 adaptor and grants its holder 10% off purchases in both Third Man Records storefronts. Past Third Man Challenge coins will no longer be valid at Third Man storefronts once Vault Package #35 ships.

Third Man Vault subscriptions are open now through January 31. All BOARDING HOUSE REACH Vault packages will ship to arrive on and as close to the album’s official March 23 street date. Learn more about this package, additional Vault benefits and subscribe now at Third Man Records HERE.

Third Man Records founder Jack White is a 12-time GRAMMY® Award-winner and 35-time nominee. His most recent full-length release, 2016’s JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 (Third Man Records/Columbia), collected 26 acoustic-based songs from throughout White’s wide-ranging musical career, spanning album tracks, B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased material from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and White’s groundbreaking solo career. The collection debuted at #1 onBillboard‘s “Vinyl Albums” chart upon its September 2016 release – a position also achieved by 2012’s RIAA gold certified solo debut, BLUNDERBUSS, and 2014’s chart-topping LAZARETTO, both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 as well.

Whitechapel Celebrate a Decade of The Somatic Defilement

To celebrate a decade’s worth of the groundbreaking album, The Somatic Defilement, the Tennessee metal band Whitechapel embarked on a headlining tour to giving people more of the old school songs that a true diehard fan would ask for.  Since they were not swinging by Pittsburgh this time around, a road trip was in order so we could bear witness to this killer setlist that any metalhead would enjoy.  This time around, I can personally say I truly do miss the local Pittsburgh crowd while I traveled out to Kent, Ohio for this show; in the end, it was still worth it.

Even though the tour was based on Whitechapel’s first album, they played a small handful of some of their latest releases and fan favorites before tuning their instruments even lower for what everyone was asking for.  Starting the show off with a couple songs off of their latest release, Mark of the Blade, before venturing into some songs off of their self-titled album and the follow up to that album, Our Endless War.  Not a whole lot of time was wasted since Whitechapel is usually a band of business and doesn’t like to waste time while on stage.  After a solid seven songs from their most recent collection (setlist below), we finally jumped into the reason everyone came to the show.

Curious of what they would play off of their album based around the elusive Jack the Ripper, I can report that the song choice put my mind at ease because they only picked the best songs off of the album (almost the entire album).  Starting off the second part of their set with the first two songs from The Somatic Defilement is more than enough to get anyone going down in the pit area.  Following them were some of the classic songs still played at shows for the most part including Vicer Exciser and Prostatic Fluid Asphyxiation.  Bliss to my ears in the most normal way possible.

With only three songs left out of the set from The Somatic Defilement, Whitechapel has definitely proven themselves time and time again by sticking to their guns and playing the music they thoroughly enjoy.  Where some bands have gone a different direction later in their careers or even switched styles completely, we truly have a band that seeks out the heaviest of songs to stick with tradition.  Where most bands flop in this category, Whitechapel still finds new ways to keep it going in the ever so judgmental music industry.  Celebrating one of the heaviest albums to be released in the past decade was a great choice for them to get back to their roots before starting off the new year with whatever else they have planned.  Needless to say, if you have the chance to check out this store, you must.  If you need more convincing, their supporting acts include Carnifex, Rings of Saturn, and Entheos.  All them as well were on the top of their game that night, so getting to this show is once again a must.

In a perfect 5/5 score, New Noise Magazine likens the band’s rhythm section to a, “rapid series of punches like a Cajun boxer,” furthering, “SUPERJOINT‘s variety of hardcore can have a strenuous relationship with jazz, as in the midst of Caught Up In The Gears Of Application‘s storm of nihilism is the sexy gospel of New Orleans jazz. SUPERJOINT‘s music is like a poison that you want to keep drinking, a spirit that doesn’t age, and never heals – but it’ll kill time. There is creative genius in these guys.” Loudwire notes, “SUPERJOINT are looking to add a vicious and philosophical third chapter to the band’s legacy.” Of the title track, Metal Injection champions, “…a great mix of southern rock and hardcore punk… if Down ever got really angry and decided to knock out a punk record, this is what I imagine it would sound like.” While Maximum Volume Music writes, “They may have dropped the ritual but they have kept the habitual as the ferocious New Orleans supergroup pick up where they left off after a 13-year gap.”
Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. “The volatile, acidic savagery that the band is known for is just as present now as it was before they went on hiatus over a decade ago…,” issues Metal Nexus. “Songs heaving with hardcore foundations and muscular musical swagger detonate and decimate everything within earshot as they creep down your auditory canals and crush your skull from within…” Two Guys Metal Reviews concurs, “Caught Up In The Gears Of Application is exactly what it needs to be: raw, vicious, and unrelenting. Everything that has made the Phil Anselmo projects great over the past few years is represented here… this man is one of the truly great forces in metal.” The Sludgelord champions the band’s collectively “gnarly and nasty music,” that’s as, “potent as ever,” and a, “storming return.” Adds Hellbound, “‘Circling The Drain’ is perhaps the best Bower riff he’s written in a while, literally interpreting the song title with a circling, buzzsaw neckwrecker. Gawddamn! Tracks like ‘Asshole,’ ‘Mutts Bite Too,’ and ‘Rigging The Fight’ only thicken the toxic mixture. Revenge is a dish best served sludgy!”

SUPERJOINT was resurrected in 2015 after the original band broke up a decade earlier. At the behest of the late Corey Mitchell, co-founder of The Housecore Horror Film Festival, SUPERJOINT founders Anselmo, Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod), and Kevin Bond (Christ Inversion, Artimus Pyledriver et al) joined forces with longtime comrades, drummer José “Blue” Gonzalez (Warbeast, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), and bassist Stephen Taylor (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Woven Hand, 16 Horse Power). A new era of the band was born. Consequently, the band members found true joy in playing together again. After just two tours, new material followed culminating in the scathing sounds of Caught Up In The Gears Of Application.
