The crowd was oozing with anticipation at the Roxian Theatre on Monday night at the nearly sold-out Story of the Year show. Story of the Year, the veteran pop-punk/emo band from St. Louis, will be revisiting its touchstone album, “Page Avenue,” celebrating its 20th anniversary. They’ll be joined by We the Kings and Youth Fountain.

Opening the night of music was Youth Fountain, a band from Vancouver, Canada. Tyler Zanon, the band’s creator and lead singer, started the night with a rocking setlist from all their albums. They left the crowd screaming for more.

Setlist:

My Mental Health

Century

Complacent

Clarity

Roses in My Backpack

Scavenger

Deadlocked

Blooms

After that killer setlist from Youth Fountain, We The Kings took the stage. They opened with “Skyway Avenue,” which had the crowd hopping. Travis Clark, the lead singer, sported a Pittsburgh Penguins shirt while saying “Pittsburgh is the fucking best” and “We love coming here.” They played hits like “Sadsong” and also their new release, “Alien.” Before finishing with “Check Yes Juliet,” Clark made a comment to the crowd, stating “We will be back again this year, but I can’t tell you when and with whom yet.” The crowd went nuts! Till next time, We The Kings.

Setlist:

Skyway Avenue

She Takes Me High

Sad Song

I Feel Alive

When We Were Young

Check Yes Juliet

At 9:20 p.m., Story Of The Year took the stage with an electrifying start, beginning with “And the hero will drown, Dive right in, Divide and Conquer.” After about 10 minutes of technical difficulties with Adam Russell’s bass guitar, Lead Singer Dan Marsala had a kind of Q&A session with the crowd and stated he was looking forward to his day off on Tuesday before they head to Toronto, Canada.

As for the rest of the show after that, it was magical. They sang a majority of “Page Avenue” songs and slipped a few newer songs like “WAR” from their new album. “Tear Me to Pieces” had the crowd jumping with excitement so much you could feel the building shake. The rest of the show left me and the audience wanting more. In my opinion, it was the best show in years.
