Although not necessarily directly relating to the genre that is typically reported about here at PMM.com, The Beastie Boys Adam Yauch (MCA) was a fantastic and influential musician. Many of The Beastie Boys songs crossed over into heavy/punk/metal/rock territory. Anyone in the age range of 30-45 certainly have some great memories that can be connected to the Beasties in some form or fashion.
As I read the reports from The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction, I wondered how sick Yauch was to not have made it that evening. It is with sadness that my question was answered so soon. The Official statement from the Beasties camp reads, “It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.”
